Five hundred years ago, dangerous magic was unleashed on the world by ambitious mages. Now, something far older and more dangerous may have been discovered. Imprisoned in Tatak Rhe for being a mage, Kadaris escapes with one reclaim her stolen relic.
For her, it is more than power. It may be her only chance to become a full mage—and her only hope of saving her dying brother. But Fern is already on the trail, determined to keep the relic out of anyone’s hands.
As pursuit closes in and the road to Rohglinn grows more dangerous, Kadaris must fight for the one thing she cannot afford to lose.
As pursuit closes in and old fears sharpen around her, Kadaris must reclaim the relic before hope—and the future she has fought for—slips beyond her reach.
TJ has been a lifelong and voracious reader, right from the first grade. Fantastic worlds existed between the pages in books and that was where she lived. She read the Hobbit when she was about nine, and was on the hunt for them-- sure that, just like Tolkien said-- they were there, but good at hiding.
Can Kadaris do anything to save her brother and the heir?
As our story begins, Kadaris finds herself in a prison cell, in Tatak Rhe, where no one can use magic. We also have Fern, who is training to become a Shadow Dancer being mentored by Ch’hikk. These two young women find themselves on opposite sides with Kadaris wanting to learn about her magic and Fern wanting to keep the world safe from magic, especially the relic. This is really is a great fantasy, filled with two young women coming into their own in totally different ways and we get to watch both of them mature. There is danger all around both young women. The writing style just fits the story so well, and the plot moves right along without bogging down. The world building is just perfect too.

Kadaris captured ,tortured, and faces the King across the rivers top enforcer. And that's just the beginning. Her magic is strong but across the river NO magic works, and having chased the Artifact that magnifies Magic to extraordinary levels even that won't work there. So guess who shows up to free her ? none other than the thief that stole it from her after the Mountain battle ,Fern and her Teacher to break her out of the secret prison.Their Journey begins ,I am an Honest ARC reviewer that really likes this series.
Determined to find the stolen relic, Kadaris uncovers a group of mages hiding in an abandoned warehouse. When the warehouse is raided, Kadaris and several mages are thrown into the keep's dungeon. She quickly asserts her presence and is soon moved to a different cell. Ch'hikk and Fern arrive to rescue Kadaris, intent on seizing control of the relic for their own purposes. This story is intense with plenty of action, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

Kadaris and Fern are so different, yet we can see how they slowly mature as they encounter situations outside of their "normal." Keeping that in mind as you read will help you see aspects of the characters blooming. I'm intrigued by the artifact and want to know what it is. And I want to see Kadaris and Fern get strong enough mentally to influence a positive outcome. The series is thought provoking.

this was everything that I was looking for from a sequel in the Legacy of the Lost Mage series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from the world. The characters had that charm and was everything that I was looking for in this world. TJ Muir has a strong writing style and am excited for more.

An absorbing read. Fern is growing as a shadow dancer, and is seeing a new side to Ch’hikk. Kadaris just wants to become a more powerful mage, heal her brother, and thus prove her worth to her stepfather. Follow along, and see what happens! I can not wait for the next book. There are a few instances of swearing. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
I love this second book in the series. Follow the adventure of Kandaris as she is broken out of her prison and goes on the quest to find the relic. Once she gets the relic, will it be enough to get recognized by her father and save her brother. Can’t wait for the next book in the series to continue with Kandaris’ adventures.
This book was a blast to read and see what Kadaris and Fern are up to and what they must face this time. Drama, trouble, surprises, that artifact causing issues, and magic trouble with the action had me glued to the end to see how it would all go. Enjoyed watching Kadaris and Fern grow and learn in this story and watching them in their adventures here.
The excitement continues. While Kadaris is focused on getting the relic home, and to save her brother, many others are interested in the device, and the power it brings. Kadaris’ allies/enemies are numerous, and she doesn’t know who is in each category. It’s tough to know who to trust when everyone seems to be looking to steal from you…
LOST MAGE - T.J. Muir Lost Mage picks up the pace with Kadaris, now venturing across forbidden lands where magic is broken and dangerous. As she chases down her stolen relic, she finds herself thrown into a secret prison, facing hostile guards who despise her for being a mage. But with some unexpected help, she’s back on the hunt—only to find herself tangled in a city of enemies, betrayal, and a constant threat to her life. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first! The pacing felt tighter, and the stakes have definitely ramped up. The changes in POV could’ve been smoother, though—I found myself needing to check a few times whose perspective we were in. But overall, I loved the way Lost Mage conjures up images of an epic RPG like Horizon Zero Dawn as Kadaris explores new areas and side quests emerge along the main journey. I’m hooked and eager to see where T.J. Muir takes this series next! Thanks to T.J. Muir and Booksprout for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A good storyline with great characters. But I felt all of the main characters needed to be more depth. I really didn't feel like I got to know the characters very well. The world building was terrific. All-in-all I liked the story and recommend reading this book.
Unpredictable adventure! A good, interesting, intense story with a lot of twists and turns. Can Kadaris retrieve the relic without magic, then learn how to control it while making her way home to save her brother?
A riveting story. Kadaris needs to retrieve a magical relic without the ability to use magic. If things could go wrong they did so in a big way. What will happen next?
Love watching Kadaris grow and learn in this new unsheltered environment! Also Fern questioning the steps and how they fit with her morals. Kinda wish Ch'hikk had a chapter, but this way she continues to be a mystery. Can't wait to read the next book!.
