For the past sixteen years Sasha's mother, Jasmine, has lied to her. She kept the truth concerning the deaths of her family members and about the powers that are now awaking within her. When Jasmine gives herself up so Sasha can escape, she unknowingly sets in motion a chain of events that could change their world. As Sasha works to control her powers, aid comes in the form of rebels who pledge to protect her and her family. Andrea fell in love with writing and world-building from a young age; she would spend hours of her day writing short stories from whichever ideas caught her eye.

She did not take the leap to publish her work until 2016 with the release of her book Adalithiel! She has since published Elendil - 2018 and Ahmentree's Magic 2020.

When she is not writing, Andrea spends her time reading the work of her favorite authors and perfecting her craft.

Right from the beginning, this book is nonstop. You think you're going to spend a little time getting to know Sasha, but nope, sorry, there a some bad guys who would like to get your attention for a moment and the next thing you know, the story's off to a running start. I think this is what I liked best about the story. Everything that might be considered criticism in a different book works perfectly here.

This is not a long book, but it is dense. We are given information about the characters as needed and when we are, it is neatly woven into the story so the action does not have to stop. There is also a,lot of head hopping and a lot of characters to keep track of. Once again, this is done in a way that is easy to follow. Each character is unique enough that they are easy to remember and differentiate.

This is a very relatable fantasy world. I'll be continuing on to see where the story is headed. If you like fast paced action, adventure, and magic in a world that is not so different from our own, then check this out.

Received from a Goodreads giveaway.

This is a really cute book. I don't know why I say cute, but that is what I kept thinking as I was reading it. I know my daughter will enjoy it when she gets about 10 or 11 years old. There is a little violence that I would rather her not read under 10 years old. Mostly it is just threats but all the same....

The Veiled Truth was a quick easy read that I really enjoyed once I got my head wrapped around the idea that it is not in our own reality. This is a fantasy placed on an unnamed planet(could be Earth)where half the people are "magical," society is ruled by a royal family, and there seems to be no real continents just lots of islands. I am still a little confused by the cover. It is a beautiful cover that depicts a shrouded castle. The story opens at a farm and the only time we are teased with a castle is actually a dungeon. I suppose that could be what the cover is about?

It is well written which is always something I look for. I will look for more books from Andrea Rose Washington. I found maybe three tiny errors but that happens with huge publishing houses all the time. Yes I'm a bit OCD. :) The story flows really well and knowing that it is a fantasy/mystery for YA's made me feel like a teen again. (shy snicker)

Sasha is "non magical" (or is she?) but her BFF Cassie is "magical." They are like sisters so it was no surprise that Cassie was there when someone attacked the farm, burned her house down, and kidnapped her mother. Running into the night they had no idea where they were going. Sasha's mother gave her a book written in a secret language with directions to a "safe house." Having no idea who was waiting for her there the adventure she embarks sets her entire world upside down.

Now... the only reason I did not give it five stars. My belief is that every book should stand on its own. Have a beginning and an end. This story has a weak ending. It almost reads like a "cliff-hanger." This bothers me because it feels like blackmail, 'you only get to know the ending if you buy my next book.' I am not saying this is what is happening here, but I would have liked a stronger ending. This could have happened with an extra two pages at the end, a conversation and a plan for the future. Fabulous story that I would love to continue reading.

I am looking forward to the next installment though. :)

The Veiled Truth is a quick, easy, and fun read. I would say it is most likely aimed at the YA crowd, and would fit in perfectly there. The story follows Sasha, a magical person who does not know she is magical, as she and her best friend Cassie try to escape those who kidnap her mother.

With only a journal given to them by Jasmine, Sasha's mom, the girls make their way to the safe house. The meat of the story comes from the history behind Sasha's family and the secrets that her mom has kept from her. She finds refuge with a family member she never knew existed.

Sasha's family is at war with the Royal family, who will stop at nothing to eradicate her and her relatives. With Sasha and Cassie in hiding, Jasmine fights to hold onto her life and her secrets. She refuses to give up her daughter's whereabouts at any cost.

Sasha learns a great deal about herself, her friends, and her family throughout the story. It is a good read for any lover of the fantasy genre. The foreword will pull you in and you will enjoy your stay.

Reading the Forward of this book really pulls you into the world the writer has created. The final walk of a woman about to be executed/beheaded, still with dignity, reminded me of Sercie's (?) naked walk on The Game of Thrones, through the crowd. Powerful image and great way to start the book.

The story then jumps to modern times and focuses on Sasha, a young girl with "magical powers" who is still learning how to use them. A house fire and "men in black" types pursue her. She escapes with her friend to her aunt's hidden house, where she discovers the truth about her lineage, her life, her ancestors and more.

She is willing to risk her life to save her mom from an uncertain fate. The book is the first in a series for YA readers.

If you like YA, scifi, Game of Thrones-type world, then this book is for you.

This fast-paced, action-packed, twists-filled book nests a more conventional action/thriller plot within a cleverly set up magical world. Its dialogue is smart and quick and so are its characters. The book pulls you in and takes you along for one heck of a ride. But it will leave you hungry for more. Literarily. The Veiled Truth is the first book in the series called The Hidden Island, The Unraveling being the second. The Veiled Truth sets up the scene, revealing in perfect doses the multi-layered past that has shaped the current events. However, as a standalone book it lacks a satisfactory ending, which is the only reason I am not giving it five stars. I recommend buying both books in the series immediately and reading them as one.

I have not read anything from this author before. It is well-written, and the author does a good job with descriptions. My only criticism was the abundance of characters. It made it a little difficult for me to follow all of them. I would have liked a bit more detail about Cassie and her magical powers, but overall the story was well told and flowed well. I recommend this book.

The Veiled Truth by Andrea Washington is a story of uncompromising mettle. Never show tears in public no matter how terrible the pain is the message that seems to come through this book. It was a fantastic read and a great story. One must read it to believe how inspiring this book is.
