Frances was born in Valencia but spent much of her infancy in Galicia.

She attended the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she studied Fine Arts at the Facultad de Bellas Artes de San Carlos. There she started working as an illustrator while also designing various book covers and other commissioned pieces.

Her first illustrated book, Favole, a remembrance of Verona, Venice and Genoa, was first released on 23 April 2003. It was moderately successful, but she returned to the University to continue to study art. She made her first public appearance at the Saló del Còmic fair in Barcelona on March 8, 2004. She toured Madrid and the U.S. the following year.

Soon after, Favole II and Favole III followed. Her most recent published work is called El Corazón de Arlene (Arlene's heart) in 2008. Her illustrations have also been featured on posters, calendars and jigsaw puzzles.

It's very pretty, but there's almost no storytelling going on in it. Maybe vampire fans or teenage girls would get more out of it than I did?

The art of Victoria's books is very good.
Unfortunely the story doesn't follow the same path and is quite basic

Victoria is such a talented illustrator! I love the emotion and details of the images. To be honest the story is not so amazing but I mostly bought the books for the artwork.

I don´t know how to phrase this without making it sound like a critique.

I have been collecting Victoria Francés´ art fo years now. I have her puzzles, poters, organizers, ...

I never felt the urge to read Favole, cause it reminded me too much of the hyper - poetical short stories I wrote when I was 17 and had just discovered gothic literature.
gothic is still my way of live, only I get very little chances to express it (it only sounds cool, but no one wants a teacher in gothic make-up, new rock boots and don´t get me started on my beloved quilling - shirts).
I remember 100 of ppl reading an writing prosa such as Favole. As a result I was oversaturated with melodramatic / sad / romantic gothic stories about lonely souls and beautiful vampires (why is it always beautiful vampires? can ugly ppl also be turned into vampires? I believe so, then why r there no stories about them?).

Sadly, times changed and it became harder and harder to find your like-minded.
There is still a big gothic community in my country, but I feel like we are back in the shadow.
We only swarm the night and disappear by daylight.
I miss those days when we walked the streets by daylight and were not frowned upon.

Now Favole is like a proof that it all happened.
The dark, sad and romantic tension is still as vivid as I remember it.
It´s still as beautiful as we were and is there to show, we STILL ARE.

¡Hola! ^^

These first volume, “Stone Tears” is about three beautiful maidens, Lavernne, Marquise and lastly, our main protagonist, the stunning Favole, all bound together by the same dark prince, Ezequiel. The stories are gothic and romantic, with incredible illustrations to match the poetic tales. Sad stories with misfortunes ends, we are entranced by the lyrics that the author played for us and for the long ago memories of Ezequiel.
A compelling read that makes us crave for more.

Very nice art, that's for sure! And the stories are written poetical, which is nice to read.
But the stories are hard to follow and understand. I had to reread it a few times to be able to make something of it, and still not everything was clear. Maybe it's because of the Dutch translation, maybe not..

I can never decide with these books by Victoria Frances if the stories came to her first and her pictures merely matched, or whether she painted the pictures came first and formed the story.

This book always strikes me as very introductory, I read the second book first and it does seem to have more of a story bases whilst this one is more... vignettes.

Although I like the story of Favole (more so in book 2) my preferred one in this book is the first, the Virgins of the Lake, the tale of Lavernne. Some of the pictures by Frances invoke memories of The Lady of Shallott, and more so than with the vampiric pictures, the tale of Lavernne is truly spectral.

Marquise's tale is, to me, the strangest of the three in this volume, and Favoles the saddest.

The story/plot is to me, very secondary to the pictures - though I do like that there is a story behind them (and therefore not just a picture of a vampire, or a ghost etc). I think that is why I prefer 'fantasy' art - it tells a tale, and these books by Victoria Frances combines a number of tales into one story that is elegantly written and beautifully pictured.

1 - Lavernne e as virgens do lago;
2 - Marquise e o seu amante de pedra;

This review is a summary of the three books in the series: I found these series completely by chance and am very glad for it. From the first moment I was drifting into the world of Favole, a world full of pain and agony for her and watched her hopeless romance for her beloved Ezekiel. Wandering between two world and somewhere between life and death, in the end she finds redemption in the arms of her beloved vampire. A Gothic love story that I highly recommend to all lovers of such gothic stories. The only reason I gave 4 stars to the series is the translation in my language, which, if you read only the story excluding the images, you would not understand a thing :(

Fantastic art book by my favorite fantasy artist! I disagree with other reviews I've seen bashing the stories, they weren't that bad, just a tad too poetic at times which made her writing a bit difficult to read. They also felt as if perhaps some things were lost or confused in the transition to English. But honestly, I don't think anyone buying this book is doing so for the stories, and the artwork itself is well worth the money. I think I will have to pick up a second copy so I can get a few favorites framed.
