Her faith in the goodness of people will not allow her to believe that people of the distant past could be as evil as she is being told. The answer might be held in a children’s tale of a mythical town claimed by legend to exist deep in a dark, forbidden wood where children go in and don’t come out. It is too intriguing to ignore.
