As an avid reader myself, and a Westcoast girl, I love two things: swoon-worthy pro athlete book boyfriends, and writing stories about them living in the beautiful Northwest where I'm blessed to call home.
I do my best work late at night after I’ve tucked in my three littles, and my hard-working husband.
Probably more 3.5⭐️/3.75⭐️ it was a cute book….a little messy on the plot but a good grumpy/sunshine.
I was really bothered by the number of errors in this book. Rewritten paragraphs but the original paragraph was never deleted, many typos, and a few parts of the story that didn’t align with previous plot points. Made it a little hard to read seamlessly.
Absolutely loving this book. The workplace tension... the airplane scene. As someone who also is super career driven, I loved reading about two characters who were also super driven by their careers and each other
This was a disappointing read for me; I found it difficult to finish this book. I couldn't relate to either character on any level, which is something I enjoy while reading. Also, I didn't care for either character. I liked Coach Bex, but I didn't like Rowan. Rowan was very immature and selfish at times, in my opinion. She didn't see things from anyone else's point of view than her own, which made rooting for her hard. I didn't feel any chemistry or tension between Bex and Rowan; it lacked passion. Also, I hated the way they treated Drew. He was completely valid in his feelings but that might be a hot take idk. The ending felt rushed and no real conversations happened.
The writing was great; I loved the idea of the story. The content just wasn't for me and that doesn't mean other people won't love this story. I do think I will read more from this author along with the rest of the series.
Thank you, Chasing PR and Kenna King, for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Age Gap?? Enemies to Lovers?? Hockey Romance?? Grumpy coach?? 💳💳💳
This was my first book by Kenna King and it did not disappoint!! It was a good quality hockey romance that I finished within a few hours. It was just the right pace and very well written.
I loved the banter between Bexley & Rowan in the beginning. Bex is the head coach for the hockey team and Rowan was the sports reporter assigned to travel with the team. They clash at first then eventually find comfort within each other. I loved watching them grow in and out of their relationship.
Thank you to Kenna King & her team for an early readers copy! I’m going to have to to tap into the other books in this series!
This age gap, enemies to lovers, hockey romance is the 9th book in the Hawkeyes Hockey series and my first from this author. I’d been eyeing by off this series for a while and hadn’t gotten around to reading it. Well after reading this one, the earlier books will be devoured quickly.
Bex is the team coach, married to the game with little room for anything else. Rowan is a sports journalist and now reports on his team. He doesn’t like reporters, doesn’t trust them. Sparks begin to fly, and the heat rises.
I enjoyed the banter, the angsty vibes and the love these two developed. An age gap can sometimes be icky by these two felt destined for one another. Things wrapped up a little too quickly for me but it was done well so I can’t complain really. It’s a well written and well developed story that kept me engaged from beginning to end.
Thank you @kennakingbooks and @chasingbooks.pr for the e-ARC of this story. I’m looking forward to circling back and reading the previous books in the series.
This is a different take on a sport romance which I liked. The story follows the head coach of a professional hockey team and his relationship with a sports writer assigned to follow the team as they approach playoffs.
This has a lot of the classic tropes: enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, age gap and some I won’t list to avoid spoilers.
I will say this book seems better from a typo/spelling error perspective than the rest of the books in the series but I rated it lower because I didn’t enjoy the story as much as I did the rest in the series. I felt the author did a great job wrapping up the series and I am excited to read the bonus content that gives us a look into three years later for all the characters.
If you are looking for a light read and easy read and enjoy sports romances with banter then I would say give the whole series a try
The Hawkeyes Hockey series wraps up with Wrong Score, and this time, it’s all about Rowan & Bex. She’s a sharp, ambitious reporter, he’s the no-nonsense coach who aged like fine wine, and from the start, it’s not exactly friendly fire. Bex has zero love for reporters, yet somehow, Rowan keeps drawing his attention. And when she starts traveling with the team, their chemistry finally tips over the edge. Can they get past their differences?
Kenna King delivers another fun and sexy romance, but I really wanted more tension around the age gap—18 years apart and no existential crisis? No “should we even do this?” moments? That inner conflict is what makes the age gap trope so good for me, and it felt a little overlooked. But Coach Bex finally got his story, and the ending? Perfection. A lovely book to end the hockey romance series! 💜
Normally I am not a huge fan of age gap romances, but this one truly swept me off of my feet. Bex and Rowan had undeniable chemistry from the very beginning. Reading their love story and seeing it develop, had me hooked. It’s my first read by the author and it’s enticed me to want to read more of hers! Hockey romances are my jam, and let’s just say that my bread toasted and spread.
Hands down this was one of the best books of the series, I wish I could live in this specific book, in this series! The magic, the love, the entertainment, the growth that you feel and see with each character is amazing and I wish I could just erase it from my memory and read it all again from scratch. Can’t wait for what’s coming next!!!!
This is by far my favourite Kenna King book I have read. Bex and Rowan's story was everything I look for in an enemies to lovers romance. I also have a secret soft spot for a grumpy MMC and Bex was perfect in this role.
I was provided with an ARC of this and I had it read within a couple of hoours of downloading it, it was that good. There was the right balance of romance, banter and of course, spice. Plus, the ending? What a beautiful ending for women who are struggling with infertility, it definitely provided the perfect happy ending.
As sad as I am to see the Hawkeyes Hockey series end, Kenna has done an amazing job with the last story in the series!

3.5 ⭐️ This book was cute and rom-com ish which had me giggling and smiling. Best book ever? No. It was fast paced and quick at times but had all the best thing of a cute hockey romance. Perfect book for a pallate cleanser! Will read the rest of the series!
i enjoyed this more than i thought! definitely a grumpy x sunshine moment that i found really cutie actually. sad the series is over but excited for my next read!
Coach Bex 🥵🙌🏻💖 this was one of my favorite books in this 9 book series! I would put it in top 3 for sure. The pacing was great and it was a fun, quick sports romance read.
This book was the perfect conclusion to the Hawkeyes Hockey series!! It was great to see where all of the characters are at this point, and how their lives have all become intertwined.
Rowan and Coach Bex’s story is a perfect mix of sweet and spicey!! The undeniable attraction between the characters was amazing!! I felt like I couldn’t put this book down!!
Thank you Kenna King and Chasing Books PR for giving the opportunity to read the ARC copy of this book! Don’t miss the chance to read this when it comes out later this month!
There’s really just nothing I don’t love about a hockey romance novel 😍 the banter between the main characters was good. The spice was 🥵 I mean… that limo scene. It was a fun quick read and I really enjoyed it!
I absolutely adored Wrong Score!!! It is such a great read! Wrong Score is Kenna King's ninth installment in the Hawkeyes Hockey series, and I am really going to miss this team!
Wrong Score is Coach Bex's story. Bec has been a pro hockey player, then a coach for his whole adult life. Pro hockey has been his entire life, and he has left no room for anything else. The bane of his existence is Rowan Summers, a sports journalist who is a rising star in the sports journalism world. She has been tasked to report on the Hawkeyes' season, where hopes are high for a comeback from the previous year's championship series loss. Bex thinks she is a distraction to the whole team, and that she will stumble upon something salacious or intrusive and will use that to her advantage to further her career.
Rowan, after a disappointing long-term relationship and attempts to build a family with another sports journalist, is just trying to keep her head down and report on the Hawkeyes so she can get a promised promotion. She's fallen into sport reporting, and it is one thing that she doesn't want to fail her. She's befriended the team and their families, and is frustrated and oddly drawn to Coach Bex's refusal to see her more of a friend than foe.
Regardless of Bex and Rowan's 18 year age gap, their conflicting ambitions, and both thinking their attraction to each other can lead to nothing, sparks fly! Their journey is so great, and the perfect amount of angst for me. I love how Bex comes around, and how he comes around to the fact that there is more to life than hockey. I love Rowan's redemption of her dreams, it is so heartwarming! Kenna King's writing is humorous, snappy, and full of chemistry. The relationships between Rowan and the wives/girlfriends of the Hawkeyes athletes is great-- I love their bonding and support of each other, and I love the cameos of FMCs from the other books in this series! Wrong Score gets better and better as you continue reading, and I just adored it, and did not want the story to end!
I received an ARC of Wrong Score and my this review is my honest opinion. If you love great banter, great friendships, and a wonderfully dreamy hockey romance, I highly recommend.
Of course, I would read the last book in the series first but that just means thru 2025 I'll read the rest of the series I was excited to see how this coach and sports reporter played out. And I'm so elated to see more authors putting women in these male dominated positions! Coach Bex had a long hockey career and then went on to coach the team he retired from. Hockey was always his number one, even causing an end to his marriage. The man was known for his gruff and grumpy exterior and never giving in to interviews. They need to have a comeback from the previous season's championship loss, and therefore he's dedicated more than ever to not have anything or anyone be a distraction to the team. Enter--Rowan Summers, sports journalist, bane of Bex's existent and the distraction he believes will derail the Hawkeyes' focus. She was tasked with following the Hawkeyes thru this season, to get stories from everyone and an in depth interview from the ever grumpass coach. She has become friends with some of the team members and their wives/girlfriends. In doing so, she's holding on to some secrets that aren't hers to tell. This leads to even more discourse between her and Coach Bex. Watching these two work thru their 'hatred' toward each other and truly believing that their attractions could lead to nothing...it was just written beautifully. I loved watching Bex learn thru this book that there was indeed more to life than just hockey, and that Rowan was his downfall (so to say). And Rowan...this girl...she went thru the ringer. I fullheartedly connected with her due to her fertility journey and I was so happy to see how that was handled and written also. (Thank you for that Kenna) The journey these two went on together was full of angst and their banter and snappiness had me giggling. The relationships between the girlfriends and wives too Thank you Kenna King for giving these two their story and then setting it out into the world. Thank you for trusting me to read it early and I cain't wait to see what happens next in your world!
Spoilers! Good book but a disappointing ending for me
MAJOR SPOILER ABOUT THE ENDING. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING.
While I started off really loving this book and the characters I was personally really disappointed by the ending. I know a lot of people will love the ending though. It brought down the rating a bit for me though.
As someone who is unable to have children (but really wanted them) I really identified with Rowan. I was also really excited because I thought I was finally reading a book where the FMC found a HEA with a partner who accepted her infertility and was ok with adoption or a child free life. Unfortunately like most romance books she got her miracle baby without really trying. That is just so unrealistic and I was so disappointed at the missed opportunity to represent the women who struggle with infertility and find a child free HEA. Yes, I know this is an extremely personal opinion but there are a lot of other women in my position and it would be nice to see that representation. Hopefully Kenna will consider a FMC in the future to rep it!
All that being said, I do love Kenna’s books and her way of writing badass female characters and Rowan didn’t disappoint in that respect! I loved seeing Coach Bex open up and finding love. While the book is low on spice the spice it does have is HOT!
The book also could use further editing. There were parts that didn’t make full sense, repetitions and some typos, which affected my rating very slightly too. If I could have I would have given 3.5 stars.
Age Gap, Grumpy MMC, Enemies to lovers. Rowan is a sports reporter for The Seattle Sunrise who is tasked with following the Hawkeyes this season in hopes that they make it to the playoffs and win the Stanley cup. Bex is the head coach of the team but prior to that was one hell of a player in the NHL. Rowan is tasked with ultimately getting an interview with Bex and getting some juicy intel. He doesn't give any interviews and he is very hush hush about his life outside the hockey rink. Bex is divorced and married to Hockey who is his one true love (or so he thinks). Rowan is coming out of a 3 year relationship with Drew (who we don’t like) and isn’t looking for love at all. While dating Drew she was given the news that she would not be able to get pregnant and after trying to start a family and not succeeding Drew gave up on the relationship and broke up with Rowan. She has been reeling from that and also from grasping the concept that she might never be able to have her own kids. Everything that Rowan does annoys Bex from her sitting in the arena, her choice of writing instruments, her hair, her clothes, her lips. It is so cute to see him slowly pick her apart but also internally be lusting for her as well. It’s not until they both drop the pretenses and realize that they might have a lot more in common than what they think. From the initial moment in the back of the plane where the tension was felt and feelings were evident to the Gala limo ride home, the angst was felt. Reading how they both were able to get to know each other and with how much intensity they cared for one another made the whole “f” moment worth it. Find yourself someone who is willing to get to know you and is willing to put an effort in. Bex and Rowan are that and so much more.
This book was so cute!! I was happy to see coach bex’s story!! The whole Rowan’s notebook getting left behind and an article being released about Bex that she didn’t write was a little predictable but I honestly was happy when it came?? It was predictable but also necessary to the story??? Glad she got her dream job writing for the art magazine but i felt like it being with Bex’s family made it necessary for her to forgive him a little quicker than I would’ve liked. I honestly wanted to see him work for it a little after being such a dummy about thinking she wrote that article. He was like “Why didn’t she tell me about the notebook??” SIR!!! You literally did not let her speak even one word. She was not given any sort of chance even REMOTELY to explain herself… but oh whale 🐳 They ended up where we wanted them but I would’ve liked to see her make him sweat a little The only reason this isn’t 5 stars for me is because I feel like we saw them hating eachother soooo much and then the kiss/them getting together felt really sudden and out of nowhere (and i feel like she let him get away with a lot of stuff)…I know they say there’s a fine line between love and hate but I felt like there could’ve been a little more interaction between them throughout the book that was more couply/feelings!! Overall such a great read and I thought what Bex said to Drew about getting Rowan pregnant was hilarious. If you’re looking for it- spice felt minimal but such a great story
i loved this book, but IM SORRY WHAT WAS THE ENDING?? i have 3 top most hated tropes; miscommunication-based third act breakups, second chance, and accidental pregnancy at number 1. the ending managed to piss me off in 2 out of three ways; there was miscommunication because Bex DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR HER OUT AT ALL EVEN THOUGH HE KNEW THE ARTICLE WASN'T HERS, and accidental. pregnancy. if done right, it feels alright in a story, but if not it feels like an attempt to save a story. in my opinion, this book would have been SO much better. if in the epilogue like 4 years later she got pregnant, its fine. But I knew it was coming from the fact that Rowan mentioned she "cant get pregnant" about 2941 times. I was cringing the whole time and I think if anyone heard my verbal reactions to the ending I'd be in a comedy show. I was SEETHING. i HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. ACCIDENTAL PREGNANCY. and the way she dropped the bomb on bex and THEY DIDNT EVEN TALK ABOUT HOW HE CALLED HER NAMES AND REFUSED TO TALK TO HER FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER THE ARTICLE WAS RELEASED BY. HER. BOSS. but honestly jordan and leo for the win thank you for being the voices of reason for our crazy main characters.
Overall: Bex: 3.5 stars Rowan: 4.5 stars previous character cameos: 6 stars also, my actual rating is 3.5 stars overall for the book. would have been 4.5 if not for the stupid ending!! goodreads hates us and wont let us do half stars :(

This was my first Kenna King book and was more of a 3.5 star read overall for me.
It is an age gap romance between a grumpy hockey is everything coach and a sports reporter that is assigned to cover his team for the season. The pair clash from the very start, continually butting heads and making their own assumptions about the other through past experiences. As they spend more time together they eventually realise that their assumptions are wrong and there is more attraction between them than they previously thought, leading them to form a connection.
I enjoyed the banter and tension between Bex and Rowans characters, with the witty comebacks from Rowan and the protective/possessive side that Bex started to show without even realising.
I did enjoy the story but felt some of it seemed a little bit rushed and predictable in parts, especially towards the end. I also found not having read the previous 8 books in the series I struggled to understand some of the other characters within the story, as there was no quick recap of their storylines/links like in other interconnected standalone’s I have previously read. With that being said it has made me curious about the other characters stories within the series and I am looking forward to starting it from the very beginning.
I had the privilege of reading an ARC of Wrong Score by Kenna King, and I’m so glad I did! This age gap, enemies to lovers, hockey romance is the 9th book in the Hawkeyes Hockey series, and as someone who’s already read the previous eight books, I was beyond excited for this one. The Hawkeyes Hockey series has been such a fun ride, and Wrong Score was the perfect addition to this amazing collection.
Bex, the dedicated team coach, lives and breathes hockey, leaving little room for anything outside of the game. Rowan, a sports journalist assigned to cover the team, is everything Bex dislikes—especially when it comes to reporters. With his no nonsense, gruff attitude, Bex has no patience for Rowan, as they clash, the tension between them intensifies, and it doesn’t take long before sparks start to fly.
Age gaps, aren't for eveyrone, but Kenna handles it beautifully. Bex and Rowan were a perfect match. The slow burn, the tension, and the protectiveness between them made for a satisfying read and an excellent way to wrap up the series.
If you love these tropes, then you have to read this book! * Hockey Romance * Age Gap * Enemies to Lovers * Grumpy MMC * Workplace Romance * Dual POV
🏒 Age Gap Romance 🏒 Enemies to Lovers 🏒 Hockey Romance
⭐ 4/5 🌶️ 3/5
Rowan gives her all to her job after a life changing news Bexley has his life dedicated to the game
They got it all
Bex and Rowan get their perfect happy end. After his active career and his now coaching job, Bexley sees his life for what it was and is. Dedicated to job, because his job is his love, family and life. His marriage. Rowan is assigned to report on the team Bex coaches. She is a sports reporter with a secret want for something else. Work and life related. But her wishes were crushed a while ago, just as relationships. The relationship with Bex is a mix of hate, attraction and heat. They have a long journey to go with him don’t liking reporters and her being so frustrated with him. Both grow throughout the book and their story. With the relationship they fall into. Bex sees that there is more to life than he saw and wanted. Rowan gets something more out of it than she thought of. There is of course a little hurdle in their way but they manage to clear it and walk into the deserved happy end. The epilogue was so sweet and delightful.
So Bec has been a pro hockey player and then coach for most of his life. He prioritise over anything else, which ruined his first relationship. After that he decided never to date anyone serious as he know he can’t put anyone else above hockey and don’t want to break their hearts. Rowan is a sports journalist. She has been tasked to report on the Hawkeyes' season, where hopes are high for a comeback from the previous year's championship series loss. She has become friend with everyone on team expect our grumpy coach Bex. Bex hated reporters and never trusted. He thinks she is a distraction to the team and that she use gather something that can affect the team and will use that to her advantage to further her career. Until their accidental almost kiss in plane. I love how their relationship process. Watching bex layers of grumpiness remove and him learning their is more to life then hockey. I love how he was so caring with her. They are so perfect for each other. I I love that there was the right balance of romance, banter and of course, spice. Plus, the ending? It couldn’t be better. I hated Roman’s ex and the reply roman gave was so funny at the end. This is the 9th book of the series but can be read as standalone.
