On the eve of World War 2, the dark clouds of fascism descended upon Spain, threatening to crush democracy and plunge the world into chaos. The fate of Spain hung in the balance.
In the face of this daunting threat, a small group of brave Americans rose up to take a stand. They became the legendary Abraham Lincoln Brigade, determined to fight back against the forces of evil and defend democracy at all costs.
But they soon realized that they were vastly outgunned by their enemies. With the odds stacked against them, the Abraham Lincoln Brigade faced an uphill battle to survive. Even as the body count rose and the horrors of war took their toll, the brave volunteers refused to back down. With the enemy closing in and their resources dwindling, how long can they keep fighting before they are overwhelmed?
Fans of historical fiction will be captivated by this gripping tale of courage, sacrifice, and determination in the face of adversity. For readers who enjoyed For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway, this book is a must-read. Don't miss out on this epic story of heroism and hope!"
I’m Rob Bauer, author of historical fiction and nonfiction books and owner of Rob Bauer Books. I hold a PhD in American History and was a Distinguished Doctoral Fellow at the University of Arkansas.
I love writing historical fiction. To me, it’s a continuation of what I used to do as a college professor—educate people about interesting historical events—except now I get to do so through fun stories. With historical fiction I hope I can reach a larger audience, too. My first novel is free to everyone on my website! You can find it at - http://robbauerbooks.com/a-free-ebook...
I also write nonfiction about baseball history because I’ve always loved the game, its history, and its lore. I sometimes joke that baseball may be the one thing in life I truly understand. Although I love the statistical side of the game, if you don’t, never fear because my histories go light on the statistics and heavy on what baseball was like in the past. They’re stories about baseball, but stories with a point.
The history blog on my website offers posts on a variety of interesting historical figures and events. I’d love to have you follow along at - http://robbauerbooks.com/blog/
When I’m not working on my next story or writing project, I enjoy spending time at the beach. And, oh yeah, I still read a history book or two. When I’m not watching baseball.
This book was so good! Historical fiction is not my favorite genre, but I've been reading this series and book 2 is even better than book 1. There's action, suspense, grit , romance, tragedy and hope. Looking forward to the next book! I'd say PG-13 for language. Nothing is too graphic despite warfare being depicted.
‘War ages men quickly’ Many of the book’s situations led me to begin asking myself some very deep questions. Since these can be very personal topics, I promise I won’t attempt to answer them: Is it *really* noble to place others before yourself? Are we personally at fault for others’ deaths due to enemy fire? How much of our souls are willing to sell for a piece of “the good life”? Where do our loyalties lie – with our nation, our heritage, or with current yet foreign ethical dilemmas?
Some sage advice from the author: Society’s ills need more attention, not less. Bullies are bullies, regardless of their politics.
Fave line: ‘Where we’re going is no poker game. You can’t bluff a bullet, buddy.’
The tale of American heroes and heroines fighting evil abroad will continue in the upcoming ‘A Night With No Dawn’.
