What are tax havens and how do they work? How does the RBI make money? What is the economics of missing monuments? Why do the rich keep getting richer?
The Little Book of Indian Business answers all kinds of questions about business, finance and the economy with smart, bite-sized and informative insights. It’s short, sharp and makes you a know-it-all!
It's very reminiscent of the Finshots newletters, short essays in a QnA format. They've also attempted to shelve the different questions under a smaller number of categories. However, considering the variety of topics covered, I felt there is still room for more cohesion between the essays and it read more like a compilation of newsletters and less like a congruous volume. Would be nice if the same essays are sent to my email once a week instead, as in some cases there's a lot of information to ruminate on.
Pretty disjointed narrative with lacklustre illustrations, essentially a compilation of their work that's out there. Regular readers won't get much value out of this. However I'm a fan of their blog so this gets 3 stars for the content.
Picked up this book with an expectation that it would help me understand the nuances of Indian businesses, or at least the industry landscape better. At its best, it would also help me generate some creative ideas for a new business venture. If that’s also your purpose for reading this book, I highly recommend you to look elsewhere. The Finshots blog, on the other hand, is quite helpful. What I did learn from this book were the historical backgrounds/significance of some of the most prominent businesses of India (Godrej, Parle, etc).
Being a reader of Finshots, and even before when they would rather write long form content, I had preordered this book.
It’s an easy read of seemingly disjointed content. Good for someone novice I would say.
While the subtopics are brief and kept interesting, there is less of a thread that runs through the entire book. Some of the illustrations are too small to read at times (I guess they used stuff they had already created) and in a sense, this book is a compilation of their work in a way.
An excellent introduction to what is the financial and economic scene in India at the moment. It will guide you through the biggest challenges of this effervescent economy that will exponentially grow in the next few years (even more). First and third chapters are fully recommended to understand Indian economic conditions and what the population and government are actually facing as challenges. The second chapter will be non necessary is you're into economics and basic concepts already.
This book is based on the Finshots daily podcast. Most chapters offer basic insights, making it unnecessary for anyone interested in business or the stock market to read it. While the Finshots podcast is excellent, the book itself is dull and lacks interesting content.
Amazing Book. I am always on lookout for books that provide some current stats regarding Indian economy and some basics on financial market. This appropriately covered everything. I will definitely suggest this book to everyone alike.
I am a big fan of the app, and naturally I was super excited to purchase this book. As expected it is a little bundle of great information. I hope you guys release more versions of the books.
