The Chase is an extremely short story arc that doesn't advance the storytelling all that much. As a result of that brevity, most of the trade paperback is comprised of filler bonus chapters that delve into the characters' backstories.

It's not terrible storytelling by any means, but it doesn't do a whole lot for more mature readers. Whereas the first trade in the series was written for all ages, this book is squarely aimed at a younger audience. Which isn't a bad thing, per se; Sonic has often been marketed to a younger demographic.

Probably the most interesting thing to happen in this book is that they setup a Sonic Unleashed story arc, which seems like a really cool element for this Sonic universe to tackle.

On the whole, The Chase isn't bad by any means, but it's marketed squarely to a younger audience and doesn't spend a lot of time forwarding story. There's a lot to like here if you're a diehard Sonic the Hedgehog fan. But if you're like me and you're only a casual fan of the series, then you're not missing a whole lot if you skip this one.
