Finding Home

Rate this book
A small-town romance that leans toward the literary, FINDING HOME is a tenderhearted story about rediscovering your true self in the aftermath of change and the people who tumble into our lives unexpectedly—yet, perhaps, at just the right moment.

Kennedy Williams is getting back on her feet. Her heart is almost healed from her breakup with the town’s golden boy; she moved into a house on the shoreline, the owner of which hasn’t been home since his high school graduation; she’s just received word that she’s been chosen for a mural fellowship with the Cleveland Museum of Art. Things are looking up for the anxious aspiring artist—until the owner of the house that she's decorated with her clutter arrives on her doorstep at 2 o'clock in the morning, the same night she hears from the fellowship board.

A decade has passed since Jamie Altair last set foot in his hometown. But, as he cuts ties with his life in DC, his heart pushes him in the direction of Ohio. When the jaded lawyer pulls into the driveway of his childhood home, however, all thoughts of reconnecting with his best friend, figuring out what makes him happy, and finalizing his divorce fly from his mind—because there’s someone dancing around his kitchen. Recognizing a fellow lost soul, he offers the scarlet-haired artist a cohabitation, friendship, and perhaps she needs a project assistant for her mural?

As the two work together to paint a mural that reflects the spirit of Sweetgum, their shared hometown, Jamie begins to wonder if perhaps their friendship was fated. Written in the stars. He finds himself leaning in, utterly captured by Kennedy—who can't figure out whether Jamie's arrival in town, and in her life, is a gift from the universe or a wrench in her plans. Months pass, and the connection between Kennedy and Jamie continues to grow and flourish; as they move from roommates, to friends, to more, they teach each other what patient, soul-deep love looks like. But Jamie never intended to stick around, and Kennedy refuses to bend and shape her future for anyone other than herself.

Will these two lost souls find their way home together? Or was their connection only ever meant to be temporary?

Full disclosure, the author is a friend of mine, and I don’t really read a lot of romance. That being said, this was supremely cozy and sweet. I feel like I’m always reading serious and soul crushing literary fiction, so the warm fuzzies definitely felt foreign to me! This was a great autumn read filled with small town charm. Easy to read and get into, and it left me wanting baked goods.

The ultimate warm and cozy read. McKenna is as much an artist as her main character here, creating life between the pages. Her words led me to craving cinnamon buns, smelling popcorn and tasting red wine (a couple times) along with Kennedy and Jamie. If you want to feel as though you’re wrapped in a blanket on a cold day, read this book. I find I’m looking at the little things in my own life with more tenderness now after finishing. Just waiting on my own moment of kismet. 🍁🍷🎨

I finished finding home yesterday. I LOVED IT!! The writing style is beautiful; it forces me to take my time and paint the picture (😉) on every single page. Just a tinch of spice; deep longing and love with a sprinkle of lust.

A cute small town romance, a bit predictable at times, but overall really good writing for a first time author.
