A man with super-adaptive armor. His friend, held hostage in the heart of a laboratory. Will he power up in time to save her from lifelong torture?
Sam knows something is terribly wrong. Waking to find himself in a cybernetic body and with no memory, he battles a blooming sense of dread. He has no idea how he got there and no idea what to do, but all that changes when the hologram of a familiar face appears and screams for help—she's held hostage and going to die.
Despite not knowing how he recognizes her, Sam drops everything and runs to her rescue, fighting desperately to harness his new abilities. But with a lunatic stalking his every move, and a technological labyrinth pushing him to the very brink of sanity, he fears the worst. With each upgrade, Sam’s power swells but his humanity wanes. Will he rescue his friend before devolving into a heartless killing machine?
If you like strong independent protagonists who quickly level-up, have deep character development, and grow into OP heroes, then you’ll love Hatch’s fast-paced gamelit litRPG adventure.
I am not the target age for Blastman, not being a young adult, and in fact I remember watching the original Tron film, which gives my age away. However, I have played role-playing games and understand the genre of Blastman. This is a no frills, fast action tale of Sam, awakening in a non-human cyborg body having to save his fiancé Anika and passing through a series of challenging levels.
If you are looking for poetic language, descriptive settings, character developments and insights, this this is not for you, but if you are a teen wanting to enjoy battle scene after battle scene, using the settings, vernacular and stereotypes of gaming, then Blastman will be your thing. D.R.R. Hatch can’t avoid the violence of game playing, but like the cowboys and Indians of my youth, this is non-problematic and will not lead anyone astray. I know my grandson would thoroughly enjoy it.
Blastman turned out to be much better than I expected. It's a good story, heavily inspired by Megaman. But don't let that detract from the story at all. A nice thrilling tale of fights and power-ups in a cycle that turns into an interesting story. As a fan of the games that this tale takes inspiration from I was amazed. It took me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane as flashes of my own fights came to my mind as I read the story. A well written story, that takes you on a journey. I recommend you check it out.
I resonated with the MC, and his desire to first discover himself, save his girlfriend, and the stop the evil that was going to take over the world. This is a different type of book that DRR Hatch has put out. I would classify the others as “cozy”. This one isn’t cozy, but the personal relationships are still a main part of the book, and something I quite enjoy!
This book is amazing. Gonna be an awesome series I’ll be looking forward to reading. The characters are unique as in the MC is a bad ass. I can’t wait to see what he does in then next book or books .
Great cast of characters, with plenty of surprises thrown in. Nice ending, with the promise of more to come. Strange to say, but I’m humming the theme from B@tman right now… Recommend!!
