I’ve been reading Gilbert Morris’s HOUSE OF WINSLOW series for 15+ years - it’s 40 books long! One great thing about it is that each book stands alone quite well. They also follow the lives of the prolific Winslow family as they migrate from England to America and become immersed in its founding.

Belle, “The Dixie Widow”, has gone into enemy territory as a spy for the south. She mourning her loss and trying to bury her grief by giving her beloved South an advantage. Her participation required leaving home and convincing her family she’d changed loyalties. Being separated from family at this terrible time was the toughest thing Belle had to endure until one fateful night…

Repleat with American history, wrapped in engaging storytelling, “The Dixie Widow” is an excellent example of historical fiction 📚

I enjoyed this boo. This time they follow the life of a woman in the Winslow family. It is interesting, other way the author brings together the families that have been separated from each other from bring on different sides of the civil war. On to the next book in the series.

Gilbert Morris' House of Winslow series is one of my all time favorite series. I have learned so much history throughout the books in this series I've read thus far. Because the series is so extensive & because I have other authors I enjoy reading, I usually read a book from this series about every 3rd book. The transition from each book in the Winslow series is so seamless that it's amazingly easy to pick up where the last book in the series left off even if you've read other books in between them. The main characters have such depth and each Winslow generation is so unique, in part because of the different period of history each book represents, that although there is complete continuity of the Winslow family, each Winslow character is completely unique. I can't wait to start the next book in this series!!!

Belle is called 'Dixie widow'. After the loss of her husband Vance. She becomes a spy, and does things that she cannot forgive herself for. Blaming her self for the loss of a decent relative. Deceiving his family. She is thrown in prison for treason. (so many Winslow are tossed in prison).. davis is the son of robert and jewel Winslow and the brother of lowel (lowel died in the war')

After davis is tossed in prison, he escapes with the help of Thad , (Lowe had helped lowel)..thad brings davis to the hospital in Richmond (enemy tertiary to davis) and hides the fact he is from the north.

Belle learns that (owen) is actually davis... after much fighting they both find God, learn to forgive and find love.

The northern family also finds forgiveness and helps the southern family to save Belle Mansion.

What a time in history to have lived through. With the war between the North and the South, so many people died. Families fighting against families but then having family on the opposite side worked to the benefit for Thad and Davis. Each was in a bind but got help from family living in the other side of the fight they were fighting. Liked the Christian theme throughout - forgiveness and accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. Hate was pretty strong in a lot of people but letting it fester inside can ruin a person's life. Good message...

This series by Gilbert Morris is one of my absolute favorites. Each book follows at least one member of a generation in the Winslow family tree and the member(s) gets saved and finds true love. There's also some commentary on the social conditions of the time frame. Truly interesting.

This book follows the Civil War from 1862 thru the end. Very interesting reading. wonder if there are Winslow names on any of the monuments at Gettysburg!
