The writing was decent but I found myself getting bored, I just think I’m not a sci-fi girlie. Towards the middle I found myself just skimming the pages and not truly invested. The writing was decent though so cudos!! I’m pretty sure this is the authors first book, so honestly it was really good for that!

AA Dasilva’s “Periphery” is an action-packed story that combines science and romance. It follows Charlotte, a grief-stricken widow, four years after surviving the car crash that killed her husband. After being brought back from her heart-stopping injuries, Charlotte has developed a savant syndrome, now an expert in physics and all things numbers.
In her efforts to continue a normal life despite her trauma, Charlotte meets a handsome stranger named Simon, who she swears is familiar to her. Simon and Charlotte are pulled towards each other by unknown forces. Amid their budding romance and Charlotte’s fight to move forward with her life, we get a story that pits good against evil, and physics against the heart.
The story begins right in the heart of the action with exposition woven into the dialogue. Sprinkled in between the chapters are quotes that encourage a deeper, thought-provoking reading of Dasilva’s words.
Throughout this novel, the imagery is incredibly vibrant as it plays on every sense. Dasilva’s use of language brings up interesting theories on the universe as well as questions of grief, love, and survival. Charlotte and Simon are both fleshed-out characters who we see struggle to tap into their respective emotions. Their motives are strong, and so is the constant conflict that carries through from beginning to end.
There is excellent foreshadowing in the beginning that left me with many questions waiting to be answered. I enjoyed the stakes and how they were constantly being upped, which kept me on the edge of my seat. This tension woven through the plot made it so that every plot twist or answered question was as shocking and effective as possible. I was surprisingly touched by the relationships and dynamics outside of the main couple. Charlotte has meaningful conversations with the characters around her that build on the main themes of the novel, so when it comes time for her and Simon to grow their relationship, their romance is that much more organic and believable.
While this plot is exciting and filled with high stakes, the best part is Charlotte’s development. I love that she works towards not defining herself based on what’s happened to her, and we get to see a character go from someone who is very lost to a woman who has taken control of her life. This novel is creative, well thought out, and great for anyone who is looking for the strength to move on from their past and focus on the future.

This is a fascinating science fiction/romance book. Charlotte and her husband Jared are in a serious auto accident. Charley sustains a TBI and develops acquired savant syndrome. She can do extremely advanced mathematical calculations in her head and is thoroughly knowledgeable about physics. According to her calculations Jared ought to have survived the collision. Unfortunately, he ended dying from his injuries. Four years later, she’s struggling to get by on her nursing salary and she’s still in grieving. By chance, she ends up meeting Simon (Sy), to whom she’s immediately attracted to and she’s certain that they must know each other, even though they’ve never met. They fall in love and it appears that they’ll share a fantastic life together. However, everything is not as it seems. Strap yourself in for an exciting ride! The ending of the book suggests (at least I hope it does) that there’s a follow-up book and I can’t wait to read it. I received a copy of the novel from Voracious Readers Only and this review is my own personal opinion.

What starts as a story about grief and second chances turns into something I was NOT expecting by the end.
We meet Charlotte, who survived a devastating car accident that took her husband. She’s trying to navigate her grief and figure out how to actually live again when she crosses paths with Sy, who’s also had a near death experience. These two realize they’ve both been given a second shot at life and love, and watching that connection grow felt really genuine.
Charlotte’s growth throughout this book was one of my favorite parts. Seeing her go from a grieving widow to someone who finds her strength and begins to overcome that grief was really beautiful to watch unfold. A.A. Da Silva handles that emotional journey in a way that feels authentic and not rushed.
Now, the last 20% of this book. Some parts were predictable, I won’t lie. BUT how everything actually played out in the end? I did not see that coming. That’s when the parallel universes enter the picture and this story takes a SHARP turn into thriller territory. My one note is that I wish the parallel universe element had been introduced a little sooner, because once it hits, it completely changes the game and I wanted MORE of it.
I listened to the ALC for this one narrated by Tara Kulkarni. It was solo narration and while the story itself kept me engaged, I did feel like there wasn’t much distinction between character voices. Some of the more emotional moments also felt like they were lacking that extra punch from the narration. That said, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the story, I just think duet narration would have elevated this one.

Every once in awhile a book comes along that wasn't on your radar and completely draws you in. . . .this is it!!!!! I'm still in shock that this book isn't all over social media!!!!
A.A. Dasilva is magic when it comes to writing a plot that has the perfect mix of a swoony romance, sci-fi aspects, thriller, and ends with a plot twist you won't see coming!!! I see why this has received numerous awards and is rated so highly.
I just finished the audio book of this, and I definitely recommend it!!!! The narrators do a great job of bringing this story to life!!! This sci-fi romance blends the multiverse, time travel, and the concept of soulmates as main characters Charlotte and Simon navigate secret agencies, fractured realities, and choices that could alter the fate of the world.

I finished the Periphery ALC in one day! Needless to say I was hooked! I found the story to be incredibly compelling, well-written, and honestly really fun to listen to! It was a great sci-fi romance full of secrets and intrigue! I freaking loved it and ate it up! If you love sci-fi romance, I highly recommend this book!

Periphery by AA DaSilva is an action-packed compelling story mixing romance and sci-fi. After Charlotte (Charly) loses who military husband, Jared, in a car crash, her heart stops for a brief time while the EMTs work on her and bring her back to life. For four years, she muddles through life, grieving the loss of Jared, but also adjusting to her new skills she acquired after waking from the accident. Charly cannot believe Jared could’ve died, based on what she remembered and calculating the physics and momentum of the crash. When she meets Sy, she has an uncanny feeling they’ve met before, possibly in another time. As Charly becomes stronger and more independent, she grows more ready to move on with life, with Sy. Although Sy has his own history, she is willing to trust him, unable to deny the chemistry she felt upon their first meeting. As the two become vulnerable and share their secrets, Charly’s world is broken apart once again when Jared appears and tries to convince her to leave town and work with him to help the government in a secretive project that transports jumpers to The Periphery. Jared has been spying on Charly and is aware of her and Sy’s ability to jump across the spectrum. He plans to kill Sy and keep Charly for himself. Charly must decide whether to trust Jarod or Sy and his family.

Do you ever feel like the second you met someone, It feels like you've known them forever? An inexplicable bond that just feels too strong for it to be the first time. Someone you'd describe as a twin flame or a soul mate. Do you ever wonder why deja vu happens? Dive head first into this debut novel and revel in the journey it leads you down. You won't expect where it takes you.
The plot is intriguing. The energy has you feeling eery. The book is a total page turner. Nothing like I've ever read to this day. I fell inlove with the characters. And the secrets. And the malicious, dark choices had me on the edge of my couch. This author has such a clever touch.
The character development was amazing. This book was far from predictable. AADaSilva's background in the medical field added a taste of correct medical situations and lingo. The idea of quantum immortality had be hooked, or quantum entanglement. I've always had an interest in that realm and possibilities of it all and this book really did it for me. "I'd rather be judged on multiple lives, than just one, though". I think my favorite part was having to over think each character- step inside their thought process for a while- where are things about to go. "Either I was a horrible person, or he was". What were their intentions? What drove them to this? Who are they on the inside? What secrets are about to unfold? Who do you trust?
This book put me in a choke hold. This book opened the door for me into a genre I didn't know I would love. I read Periphery within 24 hours time. I couldn't put this book down. Needing to know what happened next. Even if you don't think you're into Sci-fi, you should still pick this book up. The science and multiverse speculation really comes to light and has you thinking more into topics yet to be fully discovered.
All in all, read this book. And then read it again. And get excited that this book doesn't end here and wait to read the next book when it releases in 2025.

Periphery is one of those books that exist in that space where science fiction almost becomes fantasy. Or at least that's how it feels to my fairly unscientific brain. The Periphery of the title is an alternate reality that some people are able to jump to when they face death. This is a complex and thrilling read that weaves together science, thriller and romance.
Charlotte is a very young widow who is faced with much more than most people more than twice her age would have to deal with. When she meets and starts to fall for Simon, it looks as though her life might actually have a chance to start again. Unfortunately, other people seem to have different ideas.
This is a gripping read and although it is a romance, it was the thriller aspect that had me on the edge of my seat and turning those pages. There are twists and turns that keep you guessing and although there is a love interest that seems to be the 'right' choice for Charlotte I was still kept guessing until the end on how things might actually resolve themselves. There were a few red flags from just about all of the men she came in contact with.
This was an entertaining and engaging debut novel and I'm keen to know what will happen next and perhaps return to the Periphery once more.

Great debut! This story features strong female main character Charlotte, who has gone through some heavy stuff -- an accident that took her husband's life (and her own too until she was revived). She was slowly picking up the pieces when a mystery man named Sy enters her life. They have a connection that seems to transcend the norm, and it draws them closer and closer.
And then there's shadowy people who are after Sy, Charlotte, or both of them! What are they up to? The answer transcends our own dimension, which is all I'll say about that.
I enjoyed this one. Charlotte is a likable, relatable character who is easy to root for. She's got damage like most of us, but it's made her stronger. She juggles her blooming relationship with Sy along with the baggage of a marriage that wasn't quite so wonderful.
You get military aspects, medical ones, and light science fiction. I'm excited to see where this world heads next...because it's obvious we're not one and done here!

After a car crash where the protagonist nearly dies, and her husband dies, she is struggling to continue living. But then she meets a man next door and everything changes. But it’s not just her romantic life thats changing, she is also literally discovering a new world. So much is not as it seemed.
I really enjoyed this book. It took a minute to set up in the begining, but then it was non-stop action. I cannot wait to read the next book, and I want more books in this world. I also really grew to love the two main characters.

Not what I expected, in a good way
Wow - totally not what I expected and am happily surprised. The ending was a delicious cliffhanger. Storyline is action packed and the characters are dynamic. I really enjoyed this book.

I was surprised how quickly I found myself hooked on this book. I’ll write more later but for now, this isn’t my typical book but I enjoyed this. I guessed a few plot points but it didn’t really bother me when it was confirmed.

I was not anticipating to like this book so much! I don’t typically read sci-fi, and I’m so glad I picked this up. It had twists, angst, swoon worthy romance, and an FMC who’s tired of falling under others’ manipulation. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in book 2!

Each twist and turn kept building the tension, and by the time I reached the final scenes, I literally couldn’t put the book down. The pacing is spot-on, with every chapter ramping up the stakes.
I don’t want to give too much away because this is a book you need to experience firsthand. Trust me, once you start, you won’t want to stop until the last page—and even then, you’ll be begging for more. Which is why I was so excited to see there’s a sequel coming in 2025! I'll be first in line for that one.

The audiobook for Periphery by A.A. DaSilva absolutely blew me away. This story was already going to be a must read for me because A.A. DaSilva is one of my favorite authors, but experiencing it in audio made it feel even more powerful and immersive.
From the very beginning, I was pulled into Charlotte’s world. Her pain, her confusion, and the weight of surviving something that took everything from her felt so raw and real. There is this quiet intensity to her character that builds as the story unfolds, and hearing her emotions brought to life through narration made it hit even deeper.
Simon completely stole my attention. There is something so magnetic about him, and that pull between him and Charlotte is undeniable. The tension, the mystery surrounding him, and the emotional connection between them felt even stronger in audio. Every interaction had this layered depth that kept me fully invested.
The narration was incredible. The voice work captured the emotional weight of the story while also keeping the suspense and intrigue alive. The pacing felt perfect, and the shifts between intense moments and quieter, more emotional scenes were handled beautifully. It made the entire experience feel cinematic.

Thoughts: This was an intriguing book. It didn’t immediately draw me in, but I found I couldn’t put it down. I just kept reading…and reading. And wondering what was going to happen next to the characters as I was drawn into their world(s). Not only were the characters well done, but the imagery was so vivid that I was there with Charlotte in Sy’s home on the bay. Or in her cottage as she took down the shutters and fought with the wasps.
Charlotte is a widow. Her husband, Jared, was killed in an auto accident that nearly killed her. But she came away from the accident with a new ability to understand involved math and physics. And memories of something different. Something she can’t explain—and doesn’t try. Nor can she explain her instant attraction to Sy when she meets him at a bar. The two develop a strong relationship and she begins to understand that the love she had for her dead husband wasn’t really love at all. Then her ex-father-in-law comes back into her life and she finds out things about both Jared and Simon (Sy) that rock her world to the core. She’s not sure which man is the hero and which one is the villain, but she knows where her heart lies. She also discovers that the multiverse is real and she, Jared, and Sy are connected through them all.
I loved the ending, but then the author added on an epilogue and we know that the universe isn’t done with these three. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Four years after a car accident left Charlotte widowed and with scars, she's found somewhat of a routine in her life. When she gets to know Simon, a man with a military-background who also survived a near-death experience, Charlotte realizes she wants to let in the possibility of loving again. But as the two become close, Charlotte discovers that their near-death experiences gave them capabilities that people in power would do anything to abuse.
Characters
I appreciate the balance in the cast between those who support Charlotte and those who want to use her. Her reasoning is also easy to root for, as she doesn't want to kill but she'll fight to protect those she loves. The way Charlotte has to deconstruct her mindset about her past, who her husband was, and her survivor's guilt is beautiful to read. Simon's care about Charlotte and consent really shows—the way that he demonstrates that he's really listening to her is amazing. Also, the antagonist made me exceedingly peeved by being the perfect opposite foil to Simon.
Representation
The main character is a woman with a lot of medical and scientific knowledge (I love STEM women rep). She's also a widow of a soldier and has endured emotional abuse. I appreciate seeing the perspective and particular bond of military families represented.

This book kept me hooked from start to finish. I had a hard time putting it down, so I avoided work for a few hours!
This novel blends science fiction, suspense, thriller, and a little romance into the mix. The premise is that there is a Multiverse; some people can jump between the times and retain some memories. Charlotte and Simon are two such people. However, Charlotte doesn't know it yet. She died in a car accident, and when she was brought back to life, she had talents she didn't have before. Now, it is four years later and she is starting to move on with her life after losing her husband, Jared, in that accident. However, strange things keep happening. Is she crazy, or is there more at play? The upside is that she has a new fellow in her life, Simon. Simone is very protective, but that is because he knows more about what is going on with Charlotte.
I loved the interactions between all of the characters—well, most of them. I felt like they had depth and weren't surface characters. Details about their abilities and the multiverse are spread out throughout the book. As we approach the end, there is a large plot twist that will have consequences for Charlotte and Simon. In my opinion, several antagonists aren't fully dealt with, at least not how they should have been. But it leaves room for a sequel. There is also sufficient action to keep any reader engaged. The romance between Charlotte and Simon isn't over the top or graphic, which I appreciated. However, I enjoyed watching their relationship grow over time.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect going in, and I’m so glad I was wrong about whatever I thought this would be. It grabbed me right away and didn’t let go. The concept feels creative and different, especially the way it blends sci fi elements with a really emotional love story. It’s not just about the bigger ideas, it’s about how those ideas affect real people.
I really connected with the main character. I felt for her. Her struggles, her vulnerability, her strength, all of it felt believable. I wasn’t just watching her story unfold, I was emotionally invested in it. And the romance? It builds in a way that feels natural. It’s intense without being rushed, and I found myself genuinely rooting for them. The male lead absolutely delivers, and let’s just say certain other characters made it very easy for me to feel frustrated on her behalf.
The pacing kept me hooked. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the story shifted. There’s a twist in here that completely caught me off guard, which almost never happens to me. I had one of those “wait… what just happened?” moments and immediately needed to keep reading. I love when a book can surprise me like that.
What really stayed with me is how the sci fi elements never overshadow the emotional core. The bigger ideas about life, death, and everything in between add depth, but the heart of the story is still very personal. By the end, I wasn’t ready for it to be over. I closed the book wanting more, which is always the best feeling. If you like romance with suspense, smart twists, and a fresh concept that actually makes you think, I’d definitely recommend this one.

Building a career as a nurse, dealing with post-traumatic, previously unknown brilliance in physics, and finding love, Charlotte is coming to terms with her new reality. Until her past appears and the implausible becomes reality.
Twists and turns of who is really who and what Charlotte should believe take place in a world where secret technology has implications not only in this dimension but also in others. Who are the good guys? Who can’t be trusted?
At times, I alternately shouted No! Or Yes! out loud. The bad guys had me wanting to enter into the story and get them myself.
This military, sci-fi romance had me thinking of Michael Crichton and Robin Cook.

This was such an emotional read that was very captivating. This book looks at trauma, loss and the journey of healing. Charlotte was such an intense and interesting character. Her journey was so emotional, and it sucked me in. From dealing with the tragedy of the car accident to getting abilities she has no idea what to do with. The writing was so well done and I really felt close to Charlotte. I felt like I was transported right there next to her the whole time going through things with her. I wanted the best for Charlotte, and I was rooting for her the whole time. Charlotte was so likeable, and I didn’t want to see her fail. This book was very bingeable and I finished it over the course of a few hours one afternoon.
If you’re looking for a well written book that will invoke some strong emotions, then check this one out.

The story follows her as she tries to put the pieces together after the accident, while trying to make sense of her new ability, and the mystery surrounding her muddled memories.
When she meets Simon, an enigmatic stranger who is working on her neighbor’s house, she feels instantly & inexplicably drawn to him. The more entangled she gets with this mysterious man, the stranger her life becomes. She’s suddenly thrown in the path of danger, and situations from her past come back to haunt her.
The chemistry between Charlotte & Simon was potent, and their budding relationship was thoughtful and beautifully written. I loved how their connection and feelings for one another became the driving force behind the overall story. The action and angst were riveting, and there were a few plot twists that definitely took me by surprise. Looking forward to the next installment, especially after that ending. 😳

Couldn't put it down
It's not often someone can get a plot twist by me! Holy Cow! I did not see it coming. I loved the characters with all of their strengths and flaws, the concept of near death experiences creating a bit of a sci-fi / paranormal element, and the pacing which kept me on the edge of my seat. The MMC is pretty swoon worthy and carries all of the green flags. The ex husband is an entirely different story--he is easy to hate for good reasons! If you love sci-fi/paranormal romance with great plot twists and unforgettable characters, you won't want to miss this one!
It's not often someone can get a plot twist by me! Holy Cow! I did not see it coming. I loved the characters with all of their strengths and flaws, the concept of near death experiences creating a bit of a sci-fi / paranormal element, and the pacing which kept me on the edge of my seat. The MMC is pretty swoon worthy and carries all of the green flags. The ex husband is an entirely different story--he is easy to hate for good reasons! If you love sci-fi/paranormal romance with great plot twists and unforgettable characters, you won't want to miss this one!

From page one of debut author AA Dasilva’s Periphery, the reader knows they are in for a treat—if treachery, danger and an undercurrent of evil is their choice in reading enjoyment. Well drawn, intriguing characters abound; a vague sense of ‘something is off’ keeps the pages turning in order to learn the source of Charlotte’s discomfort. This is an excellent example of clever plotting and in-depth experience with the dark side of man’s nature.

This is AA DaSilva's debut novel - Now I can't wait to read what comes next! The "Sci-Fi" description three me at first because it's not usually my genre, but it came so highly recommended that I decided to give it a shot - and I'm so glad I did! The story unfolds effortlessly and the characters are relatable - every woman I know wants to meet Si! My only complaint is that because the story was so riveting, I was unable to put it down so it was over too soon! Anxious to see what else DaSilva has up her sleeve!
