There is some cute relationship stuff between Komi and Tadano, but the giant supporting cast is a growing liability, drawing attention and time from the central couple for dumb gags with people who don't even get named and thus become "oh, yeah, that big guy," "those three girls who did something one time maybe," or "that one girl who, um, sweats?" in my head. I counted 33 characters altogether this time, and I know I missed upwards of a dozen who just fade into the background.

If this series isn't about to end, then it needs to let go of the 100 friends goal or jump to it ASAP so we can zero in on the most interesting members of the cast instead of all these nobodies.

I'm glad they're taking about their futures now Tadano would make such a good teacher but I wonder what Komi will choose? She's smart and athletic so she could probably do anything she wants but she needs to have confidence in herself first.

Also this is the second time they got stuck in the rain and it's even cuter than the first time!

Now that she’s dating Tadano, Komi can maybe slightly communicate. Which will serve her well when she’s formally introduced to Tadano’s family. Then we get a date for the ages. Not the one you’re thinking of. Okay, maybe also the one you’re thinking of.

Komi might be an inconsistent series, but when it gets it right it gets it right, even this many volumes in. This isn’t a perfect volume, but it’s a great bounce back from the tedium of last volume’s big old battle arc.

And it comes right out of the gate with a very silly story of Komi wanting to head to a popular ramen chain (based on an actual restaurant, don’t say I don’t ever do my homework) known for its intense spice levels. Tadano, Manbagi, and, uh, other girl come along (unless it involves looking up character names).

This one-off achieves multiple goals at once. It gets to be very silly about heat levels and is the start of Manbagi’s amazing face game that persists this entire volume. I don’t know if it’s her new haircut, but her faces are brilliant when she’s reacting to things.

It also gets to indulge the mangaka’s penchant for drawing Komi in the act of indulging in food. There’s no secret that this is exactly what the intent is here - Tadano even references the steak chapter that this is essentially a follow-up to. It’s all very silly and fun.

The multiple chapters of the family meeting are also quite charming. We really see that Komi’s come so far with talking - I think she says more this volume than the other 25 combined. Of course, nobody in his family believes that Tadano could ever be dating Komi.

So we get a lot of Tadano’s mom being crazy extra and his sister being… the same as always, although watching her acceptance that her brother might be dating a guy turn into disbelief that he’s seeing Komi is too funny by half.

There’s some dead funny character work throughout. Komi’s brother is once more beleaguered by Tadano’s sister and it turns out to be entirely possible that she’s not actually into him as anything but a friend and potential in-law.

I also really loved the literal knight character, Kishi, whose mission is to protect Komi from Yamai, which I can really get behind (also her design is extra in just the right way). When Komi kind of calls her off and Kishi goes into her delinquent phase it’s all very funny.

May I never be so complicated that I cannot enjoy the image of a girl wearing chain mail rebelling by slurping the chocolate off Pocky and hard drinking orange juice. Komi learns a hard lesson about rejecting Yamai protection as well.

The other standout storyline is Komi wanting to head to Tokyo and check out a university. This is the most shojo moment for our leads ever as they get stuck in the city and spending time at a manga cafe and there’s a lot of mileage from Komi here.

I especially love the way she literally parts the people in Akihabara, which has one of the funniest throwaway lines I’ve read in quite some time from a passerby. Not to mention the ultimate motivation for her visit, which is terribly cute.

Oh, wait, I forgot to mention the actual important date. The one between Ase and Naruse, of course. Yes, the sweaty and the self-absorbed together at last, through some machinations.

This is such a fun little side thing, basically done without dialogue. Naruse is as extra as usual, his casual clothing has to be seen to be believed, but he’s always really nice to Ase. And I loved the surprise wall slam out of nowhere. It’s the cherry on a pretty solid sundae. If you like cherries, which I don’t, but the metaphor stands.

4 stars - a very, very solid volume. It’s funny that I literally just read another manga Vol.26, Kaguya-sama’s, and there’s no comparison. This one absolutely nails the series’ best aspects and brings it back to form in a strong way.

Mostly hilarious hijinks from start to finish this volume. I always enjoy seeing Komi and Tadano’s relationship develop further. Overall, this volume feels a bit more focused than the previous two or three (really since vol. 23).

That said, Yamai has yet to be expelled for her behavior. 4.5/5.

This volume was enjoyable but nothing really happened. There are way too many characters and I feel like it's just stretching the remaining story out. The volume could have not existed and you wouldn't notice that something was missing!

As the new school year pushes forward, Tadano and Komi slowly make their way into a handful of new friendships and their resultant complications. Niftily enough, the most curious of them lies outside of the classroom: Jannu Tadano (that is, the mother of Mr. Average).

This manga has deftly circumnavigated Tadano's family relations without ever fully showing his parents. With few exceptions, full profile shots and full scene engagement have been scarce. That all changes with KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE v26, when Tadano does the proper boyfriend-thing and introduces Komi to his doting mother. Good to know. Except, for a schoolyard comedy and coming-of-age comic book, the hilarious combinations of parents and their offspring is gravely underexplored. Readers did earn a taste by way of year-end academic counselling sessions a few volumes ago, but whole chapters dedicated to the primary characters' parents are nonexistent.

Jannu Tadano, much like her kids, is the delightful mix of wholesome, awkward, overly sincere, and prone to panic attacks midway through conversation. The woman's somewhat androgynous character design, "odd" name, and fixations on being a good and proper mother (by doing the opposite of what occurs to her naturally) makes her a solid candidate for one who perfectly meets readers' expectations.

One needn't believe Tadano and Komi are an ideal match to enjoy their companionship, but comical attempts at interventions from secondary characters are what make this manga click. Tadano's mother is a simple example, but others abound, and likewise manifest in the current volume (e.g., Himeko Kishi, the knight-looking girl).

Another major highlight of KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE v26 arrives in the volume's closing pages. After Komi and Tadano are caught in the rain while visiting a local college campus, the two hole up in a gaming café. And in a flash of sweetness, Komi curls her hair and tickles Tadano's nose until he sneezes. It's a simple, spontaneous, and playful moment that perfectly encapsulates the casual intimacy native to young romance. Hopefully, future chapters will cherish and build on these kinds of relational dynamics.

I picked this up as part of my continuation of this series.
“Komi Can’t Communicate, Vol. 26” continues to follow Komi as she tries to make 100 friends. In this particular volume, Komi officially meets Tadano’s mom and sister. Tadano’s family is very excited for him and Komi, but they are surprised he is dating Komi and not someone else. The encounter is awkward, but all of Komi’s social interactions up until now have prepared her for this.
This volume was pretty cute, and it was fun to see Komi have the oftentimes awkward right of passage of meeting her boyfriend’s family. It felt a little outlandish how much Tadano’s mom loved Komi, but it was really sweet how she embraced her son’s new relationship and how much she sought to get to know Komi.
It was interesting to see Tadano’s family being so shocked that he is dating Komi and not this other person. I can see their confusion, but I did not think it was that shocking that he ended up with Komi..?
We have definitely, once again, veered from the original plot. Komi is not actively working towards making any new friends. Hopefully we get to see her break out of her shell more in the next volume!

A step up from Volume 25's Battle Royale tedium, as Komi and Tadano visit his house to meet the fam! And Komi struggles to communicate, of course, so mom initially is insulted. . . so this is pretty funny, with sis mystified that her bro might actually have a girlfriend, and whoa, Komi?!

We see that Komi's brother is jealous that she has a boyfriend. We see Tadano and Komi visit a university to help them begin thinking of the future, and Tadano--no surprise, given his empathy for others--plans to be a teacher!

To contrast the sweet/awkward Tadano/Komi dating, we view one between Ase and Naruse, so that;s interesting. But there are way too many new characters in this volume, in what seems to be the second to last year with several more volumes, ugh. I think the problem is this goal of 100 friends that Komi has. As I always say, it's not quantity, but quality. You have all the friends you need! Let's get off this theme to focus as the series winds down, on the main characters and their closest friends.

**volume review**

-Love Tadano's sister so much and how she's the complete opposite of him with reading people - her thinking that he was dating Katai always makes me laugh!
-AND THE FACT THAT HIS MOM THOUGHT HE WAS GAY TOO??? Poor guy can't catch a break - yes, he does have a gorgeous girlfriend now!
-Katai's sister having a thing for Shosuke is funny, sweet, and probably going nowhere, but I appreciate her awkward attempts (and the inevitability of Hitomi messing it all up)
-Sweet Wakai! I really want him to end up with Rumiko; she can definitely help him come out of his shell! He just needs to stop thinking that she's dating Katai first lol (poor Katai can't catch a break with people assuming the wrong things about him)
-NARUSE AND ASE DATE???? My poor heart can hardly take the sweetness!

Komi tries a super trendy ramen place and almost regrets ordering their infamous spicy dish. Tadano and Manbagi definitely regrets it! Despite their pain, it was nice to see them all together and hanging out again after their class separation.

Komi meets Tadano's mother and sister, who turn out to be super extra! Because they were convinced Tadano was romancing Big Scary Dude, they find it hard to believe he's actually going out with the School Goddess!

Komi and Tadano later find themselves stranded after they go out to view a University. They end up staying in a Manga cafe where Komi actually ends up flirting with Tadano! It's super cute.

Later at school, Komi inadvertently hurts the feelings of Knight Girl who considers herself Komi's self appointed protector. Komi just wanted to treat Knight Girl as an equal and not a serf but by doing so, caused the girl to spiral and lose her sense of purpose. Cue hilarious rebellious streak.

Alas, Komi finds Yandere Girl takes full advantage of her sudden lack of protection and Komi has to quickly make amends after being chased all day! Determined to stick to her principles, Komi expresses that she just wants to know Knight Girl better rather than remaining her shadowy protector. She sincerely wants to be her friend. Knight Girl is touched by her sincerity and resumes protecting Komi but also tries to not be so distant.

ANOTHER DATE-(ISH)!

It is a much better volume than the previous one. This one was more appealing.

Started liking some of the new classmates. Especially Yuka. She makes the panels more cheerful.

Tadano finally takes Komi to his house, and the reaction of his mother and sister was very funny. That part of the volume was quite the blend between comedy and wholesomeness.

Then, going to visit a university was a great plan, too. Just like the previous golden week, Komi and Tadano are stuck in rain. This part was rather less funny and more wholesome. Komi's getting more verbal.

The character progression is so good.

Reading this volume is like catching up with a good friend in which you haven't seen in awhile. While you haven't talked in a bit...you pick up right where you left off and there is no ill feelings, only joy of just sitting and catching up. This volume felt that way getting a few characters which have not appeared in some time a little more page time. This volume also presses the lovely dating couple forward with Komi meeting Todano's parents and a misunderstanding which has been running easily for 10 volumes to be concluded. Fun and problems communicating has never been so entertaining.

3.75, as this one was for sure better than the previous ones.

We got, again, some school stuff that was pretty pointless, and basically doubled down on the new classmates for Komi's third year. I guess the author is trying to get us all familiar with them, but they are mostly uninteresting, except for maybe Wakai, and he is not even in Komi's class.

Luckily enough, we got some good stuff when it comes to Tadano and Komi's relationship. This two really know how to be cute, and I'm glad to see their relationship evolving.

Komi and Tadano get stuck at a station when heavy rains stop the trains, and as the cover reveals, they wait the rain out at a manga cafe.

There is a sense of ennui in the stories collected in this volume. The main couple of Komi and Tadano are cute and all, and their dates are squeal inducing delightful, but I wonder what the next big story arc is. Something as big as the New York trip mega-arc, because this series feels like it is just coasting the last two volumes.

The series hasn't really found its way back to a central plot line, but a trip to a notoriously spicy restaurant, an awkward family dinner, and a college visit provide some of the delightful and sweet interactions that make Komi so great. In between, we get a rather large ensemble cast of short scenes that continue to grow as even more students join Komi's ever-growing network of friends, admirers, and occasional adversaries.

Honestly wasn't the best Komi-san book I've read (idk why, but it was still great!) but there was so much Tadaomi flufff--
"i like your face.. and your hand and your voice and everything elsee" ANSJKDNFAJSNDKAJN >< ♡
It was more plot based (like what they're going to do on the future) and less romance-fluff based, so if your into the story more, then this would probably be a good book for you!
AND MY GIRL RUMIKO WASN'T EVEN IN IT.

anyways, ☆☆☆☆
