Nikolai Cattaneo

Riley hates me. She has plenty of reasons. But that doesn’t stop me from following her every move. She’s part of my family now, an addition I never saw coming. Having her this close is more than I can stand. I don’t care if she hates me, I want her, and I’ll do whatever it takes to get her.

Riley O’Haire

Nikolai hates me. He thinks I snitched on him. Of course he’s wrong, but I’m not going to waste my time telling him the truth. Not when he stalks my steps and even enrolls in my school to keep an eye on me. It doesn’t matter that I’m attracted to him, that I find myself thinking about him far too much. We can’t be anything to each other, not with our past, not even if I want it.

This was marginally better than the first book.

I was excited for Nikolai (18) and Riley (18), but they had a rough start thanks to the former. Like in the first book, there's wrong assumptions and miscommunication between the MCs. Also, Nikolai acted like a real jerk towards Riley because he can't control his feelings for her. He also thinks he's not good enough because of the bad things he had witnessed in his young life. These issues would normally annoy me, but I'm giving them a pass because they're still young and have a lot of things to learn. 🤷‍♀️

It was your typical LD novella, where they saw each other, felt something they never had before, and couldn't get each other from their minds. They tried to fight it, but of course that resistance didn't last long.

There's some drama thanks to the popular couple from their high school who happens to be both bully and psycho, apparently. Thankfully, nothing extremely bad happened to Riley, and Nikolai saves the day.

Looking forward to Church and Angel's book, I think there would be an age gap seeing Angel is still in senior high school. But the crumbs from them are making me curious already.🤭

This was a perfect novella and palette cleanser.
Short- sweet -possessive H- innocent h- DUEL VIRGINS♥️
Duel POV first person

Not really a bully he is just a jerk for a while mostly before the book opens. He thinks she is too good for him and he can’t control himself around d her so he stays away and pushes her away w a bad attitude.

It doesn’t last long before he claims her.
Some miscommunication
Some mild OWD and OMD that just cause trouble but neither are interested in them

Safe!

DUAL VIRGINS! *obligatory booty shake happy dance dance!!* This review has spoilers so I can refer back to it to remember the story. You have been warned.

4.5 points (I want to give it 4 because he pushed her away, but my heart wants to give it a 5 star rating because she is his first everything and that is so rare in romance! I went with a 4.5 rounded to a 5. The fact that a romance hero experiences every first with his heroine is exceptionally rare, so I am treasuring it.)
Safe
No cheating
Unwanted OM Brett (it is slight, the unwanted OW's boyfriend is creepy but went too far towards the end...I will say what he did below in my review)
Unwanted OW Becky(the sociopath mean girl who is the unwanted OM's girlfriend wants him but he dismisses her)
Push away from H (for months from the end of the first book until the beginning of his book and he was pretty cold to her and avoids her, she avoids him since it hurts knowing that the boy she is crushing on, in her mind, hates her)
Separation for months (they are living in the same mansion but they avoid each other)
No third act break up
No gross condom use
HEA

So, I did not like Nikolai at all at the beginning. He was pretty rude, dismissive, pissed at Riley for all the feelings he is feeling for her, and because he thought she was the cause for her brother to show up in the last book, but then he knew that she did not lure anyone. He is 18 but she was 17 about to turn 18, so even thought it was not mentioned, it may be one of the reasons for why he avoided her, but the reason he gave in his inner monologue is the stupid, 'she deserves better than me' excuse. *heavy eye roll* I hate that trope. She had her nose in a book and was walking down the hallway to go to school until she bumps into him and he purposefully did that. Then he snaps at her telling her he does not like her to touch him. Um....then why did you let her? That was the meanest thing he said to her. He didn't mean it, on the contrary he craves her touches and wants her, but he fights it. I did not like that, I prefer a hero that goes after his woman, but I warmed up to him more and more as the book goes on, until I finally really liked him. As for Riley, I loved her since we met her. She is sweet, shy, she can get feisty when she needs to and she was a balm of healing for Nikolai. I love my shy heroines and she is no exception! Poor thing didn't know just how far gone Nikolai was for her. In her mind, she thought that he hated her. She couldn't be more wrong, but I wish that he didn't let her feel that way for months. I did not like him fighting his feelings for her for that long. Add to that things he would say or not say making her confused and these misunderstandings just added to her confusion. By that point, she doesn't know, but we the reader know that Nikolai is no longer fighting his feelings. That made me happy because I know that when he would say something and she would scrunch her face, it was her misunderstanding him.
He snapped out of it pretty much at the beginning when she came back with a scraped knee. He needed to know who did that to her, but she would not say. What comes next, I did not really like. He nurses her knee (that I did like), but then he spreads her legs and goes down on her. This is personal preference, but I would prefer our couple to at least share a kiss before that happens. There is something so impersonal, which is the impression she got from the experience thinking that to him it means nothing.
She couldn't be more wrong as it meant everything to him because she is his first EVERYTHING! I am telling you, heroes that experience their firsts with their heroine will always soften my harsh critique of them (within reason). It will always reign supreme to me because any form of intimacy is a meaningful part of their lives that they experience ONLY with the heroine and with no other, before or after! The best part is that she knows that she is his first, and he knows that he is hers.
Nikolai is now a student at Riley's high school, in order to keep a close eye on her and seeing who is giving her a hard time. It was pretty funny imagining this hulking Russian with tattoos in a school uniform that is way to snug on him. Since the moment he saw her scraped knee, he was unrelenting in his claiming of her, but she was iffy on if intimacy means something to him or not. He disappears late into the night, so she thinks that he may be off with other women, until he tells her that sex and any form of intimacy disgusts him, because his mother was a sex worker and took him to the brothels where as a boy he heard and saw things he never should have been exposed to. Thank goodness he was never the victim of anything, but seeing that tainted his view on sex, so he kept away from women, never even feeling aroused by them, until Riley. The floodgates opened when he first saw her at the club, and he felt all the feels, including love, but he did not know what to do with these feelings and how to process them. I would not call him a bully, he was more a cold jerk. When he would push her away, he would feel bad, but he always felt obsessed with her since he met her. He also knew that even though he shouldn't, he was always pulled towards her and it was a matter of time before he claims her. The part of his inner monologue knowing that he knows she is the one, was important because he felt that since they met. I am an insta love/love at first sight gal because there is a magic spark of passion between them when they first lock eyes and that is something only instalove can give.
Becky, the bully bitch, was so incredibly mean and violent, pushing her on the floor, demanding she give Nikolai's number to her. He did make her understand that she crossed the line, and Riley appreciated him defending her. Mess with Riley and you will find out, and he is not to be messed with! Becky was a grade A sociopath and towards the end, we see just how bad she and Brent are. That part blind sighted me for sure, but it was like solving a whodunnit, without knowing that there was detective work to be done! It was a good gasp moment for sure. Of course, Nikolai came to Riley's rescue.
So you have been warned with me giving spoilers...here is a big one.. this is what happened, Riley went to her new friend, Angel's house (Angel is Brent's twin), and when she came out of the bathroom he grabs her from behind, covers her mouth, drags her to the bedroom and grabs her breast. Angel fell asleep while this happened. He did all that with his sadistic sick in the head girlfriend. That is when Riley screamed. Thank goodness it did not go any further! After she was rescued, we are left with Nikolai caring for Riley, making her feel loved and that was to me the best part of the book I will reread often.
All in all, it did remind me a lot of 'Beauty and the Outcast', but I still prefer 'Beauty and the Outcast' more. I do and always love my DV lovebirds, including Nikolai and Riley, but he pushed away a bit much at he beginning, mind you there was months of that before the book starts. I wish we had a longer epilogue, but the third act with him washing her, taking care of her, and then giving us his inner monologue on how special it is for him to share his first time with the only woman that ever got his attention, knowing there will be million more times they will share intimacy made me smile and warmed my heart. There is nothing more romantic and nothing sexier than a man that is happy to share his firsts with his one and only. Heroes like that are so rare in romance, we need more of them! We always get the innocent virgin heroine, and I love that, but only when they are coupled with a hero that save himself for her. That will always be the gold standard in romance!
His marriage proposal made me chuckle and made me audibly say, 'Awww!' Really, he is a softie and a sweetie, it just took some time and a lot of Riley to soften him and give him a sense of peace, healing and mostly love he needed. I did end up loving him. This sweet boy deserved his sweet Riley. Riley was very shy with her nose in a book, needing the escapism, but when she would have enough of Nikolai's harsh treatment, she would get on her tippy toes and hiss like a kitten. She can get feisty! It took me some time to like Nikolai, but I loved Riley from the start, and as their story unfurled I slowly loved them both together.
Now I want Angel and Church's story! Of course I hope it is a DV, (of course I am going to hope for more DV). If this whole series is DV, that would send this over the top! I am also hoping that Lucy Darling is going to gift us with more DV romances in the future! *I am hoping really hard over here crossing my fingers and toes....even my cat staring at me typing, is crossing his toe beans for me!*
I recommend the read and I will read it again for sure!
Happy reading everyone!

I thought this would be darker, but it turned out to be a pretty sweet romance with the mafia vibes in the background. I skipped the first book and never felt lost, but it sounded like it was between the H’s step-in father and the h’s older sister, and these two met in that book.

This book starts with Nikolai already obsessed with Riley and her thinking he hates her. There’s a little OW drama, but not in the romantic sense, she is bullying Riley at school.

📗HS romance
📗Totally safe
📗Dual virgins
📗 No real conflicts or drama

Bottom Line- Quick read but this is for readers in the mood for something lighter and sweet-ish. The H is an alpha, but he's very smitten and devoted to the h. There’s a bit of mafia violence but not a ton of action.

FREAKIN LOOOOOOVED this one!

The hero and heroine were PERFECT together, like two matching puzzle pieces slotting together. The hero was rough, relentless, at times an asshole, filled with dark yearnings for the heroine. He tries to resist her, but her sweet shyness is too much for him. I love how she brought him to his knees.

This is definitely my favorite one in this series.

Super safe. Dual virgins. Some unwanted ow/om drama. Possible trigger: heroine is attacked and attempted assault, but hero rescues her. No cheating or sharing. Hea with epilogue

3.5 stars!

This was nice and short. Not super spicy but that wasn’t what was here for anyway.

I loved how obsessed Nikolai was with Riley!! My favorite type of MMC. I wish there were better reviews for Mona and Mateo’s book because I would have loved to read about them but I already know I won’t like it.

The ending did feel very rushed though and the thing with the villains was anticlimactic. Hopefully we get more answers in the next one.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Nikolai and Riley meet the night she pulls the fire alarm at Matteo’s club to find her sister, Mona (Born in Sin). Matteo is sort of Nikolai’s adopted father, he lived on the streets before he was taken in by Matteo.
Nikolai can’t stop thinking of the beautiful girl but has no way to find her. Imagine his surprise when he sees her at Matteo’s condo, she’s his wife Mona’s sister. There is definitely an attraction between the two but each think they hate each other. They avoid each other at the condo. Riley has been enrolled in the local high school and Nikolai should have been going to high school but wasn’t until Riley starts there, he now enrolls to be near Riley.
At school Riley has caught the attention of the football star, Brent who harasses her. Even worse she is being bullied by Brent’s girlfriend Becky.
When Becky trips Riley she falls and skins her hands and knees. Nikolai takes her home and patches her up, leads to him giving her an orgasm. He doesn’t ignore her as much at home anymore but they are still a little wary of each other. He stays away mostly so he won’t crawl into her bed, they are both not ready for that.
Riley makes a friend at school, Angel, unfortunately she’s Brent’s sister, thankfully she’s nothing like him. The two girls bond over their love of romance novels. When Riley is invited to Angel’s house to watch reality tv she agrees. She doesn’t know she’s walking right into danger.
Brent and Becky are two real sociopaths, they have raped, tortured, and killed young girls together. Their latest victim is Riley. Becky attacks Riley in the girl’s bathroom, Nicolai comes in and saves her. He threatens Becky and tells her to stay away from Riley.
Nicolai having a bad feeling about Brent has him checked out by Matteo’s fixer, Church. Church tells Nicolai that something is really off about Brent. He questions Nicolai about the girl with him, Nicolai thinks it’s Becky but Church is interested in Angel. This is the set up for Church and Angel’s book.
Angel falls asleep while watching their reality binge, Riley goes looking for the bathroom but runs into Brent, he forces her into his room where Becky is waiting, they are going to tie her to the bed and hurt her.
Church has found evidence linking Brent and Becky to multiple murders of young girls. When he finds out Riley is at Angel and Brent’s house he loses it and races over there. He arrives as Riley starts screaming. He bursts into the room and attacks both Brent and Becky. Riley’s bodyguard Sal, takes care of getting Brent and Becky to their warehouse for justice while Nicolai takes Riley home. Church takes Angel to his home. She thinks her father has sent him because of danger from the creepy guys that sometimes come to see her dad, a senator.
Nicolai gets Riley home, I love yous, and they finally have their first time. It’s sweet, dual virgins and he tells her they are getting married.
Epilogue years later with a son and Riley pregnant with a daughter. Nicolai channels his anger and aggression into gyms in underserved areas to help kids get off the streets and to be safe.

loved Nikolai and Riley

Riley doesn’t believe that Nikolai even likes her but she’s so wrong. He’s in love with her and will do anything to protect her. Even enroll in her high school to protect her. Loved this Mafia love story, Nikolai is the perfect protective stalker lover you could ever want and Riley is her perfect woman. Fast and steamy and an awesome Mafia read.

This was a quick read. The things he would think about her were so cute and how protective he was.

I don’t like how she was such a doormat. Never really did anything to stick up for herself at all. He was pretty mean to her and I would’ve handled it a lot better if she at least dished it back. I wish it was a little longer to read but the epilogue was so cute.

“Bully” is the story of Riley and Nikolai.

Enemies to lovers romance between characters who are supposed to hate each other, but we see less of that and more of lust between them. Hero is smitten, heroine is confused but overall an ok read.

𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑹𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒚'𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆.

Bully was definitely my favorite out of the series. Nikolai was perfection.

𝑺𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆. 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒓.

You meet Nikolai and Riley in Book One, and you see them push each other's buttons, but the real story unfolds in this one.

𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑹𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝒃𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒔, 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒐𝒇𝒕 𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒌, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 𝒖𝒑 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒆𝒔. 𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏. 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒇𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰'𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏.

Nikolai is obsessed with Riley. He thinks she is perfect, but of course, he can’t let her know that, so he acts mean to her—but in a sweet way.

𝑪💦𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆, 𝑹𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒚.

He notices that she has been having issues at school, and to find out what’s been going on, he enrolls in the same school as her. No one is touching his girl—and if they try, it will be the last thing they do.

𝑰 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍.

I loved how sweet, caring, possessive, and protective he was of Riley. Beneath all those tattoos and his grumpy attitude was a teddy bear who adored her. She was bullied at school, and he wanted nothing more than to protect her and keep her safe. He didn’t like anyone else driving her to school, insisting on doing it himself. Riley would often get so worked up that she’d forget to eat, and he always made sure she had food or stopped to get her something to eat. He even braids her hair. Swoon! Even though Nikolai was a bad boy with tattoos and a troubled childhood, relationships didn’t come easily to him. However, that didn't stop him, because deep down, he knew Riley was his girl and wanted her to know just how perfect she was.

𝑳𝒆𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖.

I could have read another 100 pages about these two—that’s how much I loved this story.

Bully is the second book in Lucy Darling’s Untouchables Mafia series, following Riley O’Haire and Nikolai Cattaneo, two teens bound by their ties to the mafia. Riley believes Nikolai dislikes her, but the truth is far more complicated.

Nikolai has always been drawn to Riley, yet instead of revealing his feelings, he keeps his distance—until he can’t stay away any longer. When he transfers to her high school, his presence becomes impossible to ignore. Though Riley initially sees him as nothing more than a bully, she soon realizes his actions stem from a fierce need to protect her. As tensions rise, so does their undeniable attraction, pulling them into an intense and passionate romance.

With a fast-paced plot and an all-consuming, possessive love interest, Bully delivers high-stakes drama and electrifying chemistry. The protective hero trope takes center stage, making this story ideal for readers who enjoy obsessive romances with an edge of danger. While those who prefer slow-burn relationships may not find it as engaging, fans of intense, passion-driven love stories will likely be captivated.

The couple: Nikolai and Riley

Romance trope:
Series: Untouchables Mafia
Length: 130 pages

Plot: Riley's sister is now with Nikolai's boss, so they can't help but see each other. But Riley's convinced that Nikolai hates her. He's a jerk - always snippy with her and can't wait to get away from her. But maybe things aren't as they seem. Nikolai hasn't had a great life and owes everything he has to his boss. But it seems that now there's someone else he owes his loyalty to, and she's the sweet girl tucked away in his boss's house. He'll protect her no matter what, even if it's from himself.

Commentary: I do love a Lucy Darling book. This is really one of the few authors that I can stand to read high school/college age characters from. Riley was so sweet, and I was happy when she finally made a friend at school. I was even happier that Nikolai went to her school to protect her, and I loved that he was willing to take down the girls just as much as the guys who messed with her. There's usually the vibe of "oh, I don't hurt women so I'll figure something else out," but not Nikolai - if you're a girl and you hurt his Riley, he'll kill you no matter who you are. Love it.

Previous book in the series: Born into Sin
Next book in the series: The One

MMC and FMC are virgins ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

However….

This was a mess of teenagers playing mafia (they are in highschool!), the nerd (FMC) being bullied by her crush (MMC) and bullied by mean girls and one of their boyfriends.

Nikolai is not actually a bully, he is just rude because he doesn’t want to acknowledge his feelings towards Riley. Suddenly he changes his mind and goes all Alpha possessive and obsessed.

Riley is the nerd who is bullied at school and is very insecure and has a major crush on Nikolai.
Pages are overruled by inner-monologue and not much going on until the last two chapters. Nikolai’s background is barely mentioned. Book almost bored me to death, good thing it's a very short read.

Didn't think I would want to read this one since the first book had some... issues, but I was curious about Riley and Nikolai so I gave it a go. It was much better than the first, and hey, the author stuck to one name for the mmc so that was a plus. I also enjoyed Nikolai more as a character than Matteo/Luca. Riley also had a bit more bite to her than her sister Mona, but she still followed in her sister's footsteps of allowing a man to basically walk all over her. With all her thoughts about Nikolai being hot and cold towards her, she should've pushed back more, stopped him from touching her, etc. Unfortunately none of these women can seem to say no.

FMC: Riley
MMC: Nikolai
Tropes: high school, mafia, novella
Spice Rating: 3
Series: Yes | Interconnected Standalone - Untouchable Mafia Book Two
POV: Dual
Cliffhanger: No

I’m so excited by how quickly this book was released after reading Born Into Sin. Nikolai is yummy! He’s a bit of a jerk to Riley which of course once you read his POV you understand is because he’s struggling to express his feelings. BUT his need to care for her and will do anything to do so is absolutely a favorite of mine in books! Even when those things are a bit grey. Looking forward to the next one!

short and sweet

bully romances are a guilty pleasure of mine (dont ask) and this one was fast paced and i loved getting Nikolai’s side so we knew the whole time his words were coming out harsh and wrong. Loved how he just signed up for school so that he could protect her from her bullies. Nikolai’s background was also very sad and so given his traumatic background it was great to see him open up. wish it was longer, it wrapped up so quickly and didn’t even get to see revenge being dealt.

Riley and Nikolai

Nikolai has been my favorite since we met him in the first book. That man had an aura that just made you want to learn more. I loved his story with Riley. It was great to see them develop their relationship even when he was fighting his feelings. It was sweet and sexy. I loved every second of it. I can't wait for the next book and I'm dying to know if Zero gets his book.

Nikolai and Riley were so hot and cold, and I absolutely loved it! The build up was done well, and I really enjoyed the angst in this one. These two might be young, but it was easy to see they were each other’s one and only. Loved that we got the follow up from book one so fast, and it was such an entertaining read. I’m very excited for the next one, and I think it might just be the best of the three if that’s even possible.

Lucy Darling knocked this one out of the park. I loved this book! Nikolai and Riley were so adorable together. I couldn’t believe the lengths that Nikolai went to in his protectiveness of Riley. He cared only for Riley and everyone else had better stay out of the way. Even a little overwhelmed and unsure of how to move forward, Riley never turned her back on Nikolai … even when he acted like a complete caveman. I only wish this one had been longer.

Another great book from Lucy

Great story. Couple has chemistry. Has a little action with a couple of gross villains. A little angst. I guess if I had to complain about anything it would be that many of the female main characters in these books are too quick to.forgive when the mmc acts like a jerk. But I notice it with other authors too. It doesnt detract from the story and the mmc definitely redeems himself.

All over the place

Inconsistencies throughout were distracting. Dialogue needs work.
Structure needs work.
Everything needs work.

The FMC is chill for the most part but it’s like being stuck inside a fourteen-year-old girl’s mind. She was immature and self-centered, rambled on about random subject matter and jumped from topic to topic abruptly.

Very amateur writing skills at play here.

Probably going to be a DNF

Adorable

Contrary to what the title says this is not a Bully romance thank goodness. I’m not fond of when the MMC hates the FMC. This was more young adults struggling to communicate feelings but ultimately getting it in then end. I’m a little more bloodthirsty I wasn’t to see the repercussions of the two villains and see them psy but alas it was fade to black and never to be heard from again.
