Honoris. Veritas. Potentia.Turns out killing your traitorous ex-fiancé isn’t considered good form.
I knew when I went after Magnus that I’d have to face the consequences of my actions, but the punishment doled out by the Society shocked everyone—including me.
Being sent to State U to clean up his damn mess is worse than being executed, if you ask me.
Everywhere I turn his cronies, his corruption, and his ex-floozies are waiting for me to fail so they can justify getting revenge. If I don’t fix this and make sure State U’s Division 1 teams keep their eligibility, I’ll be facing worse than a bunch of flunkies, though.
Americans take their sports seriously, especially the uber-wealthy supernaturals who control this school.
Morgana LeCiel doesn’t back down from a challenge, so I dig in the minute I arrive only to land in the middle of a murder investigation involving our star hockey player and the grandson of a Society member.
Now I’ve got five sexy, off-limits men trailing after me as I try to solve a mystery and redeem myself with the entire world watching.
No pressure, right?

Cassandra Featherstone is one of my favorite authors, so I've been ready for Blood on Ice. Just when I thought I had her down, Cass changed it up on me, blasting past what I expected and giving it a brand-new feel.
Pretty sure at this point, everyone has heard the phrase "I am going to kill him." Well, MFC, Morgana in one show of feminine rage, has gone and done it. She offed her nasty ex. Should she have? That's debatable (que me winking). Did he deserve it? Abso-fudging-lutely! Magnus was despicable on an incomprehensible level and Mor has hinted at even more, which I am dying to know about.
This is a story of power and corruption. I do not think Mor's punishment fits the crime and now she has to clean up his mess. However, what the powers that be failed to realize is that Mor is the type to bring it all down. Morgana knows how to handle her crap even if she's a little worn around the edges. Mor is awesome. She's smart, empathic, and courageous. Boss Lady is more than capable of doing what needs to be done especially now that the loner hybrid has (reluctantly) found her people. Lucas totally took me off guard. Like who is this kid? He came in and took Morgana (and me) by surprise with his charming, confident, and caring ways. Cass is right, I want a Lucas, he's freaking adorable. The other guys are complex and I adore them as well, except for Kasper. Gods, I just want to punch the bodyguard in the face. Hopefully, that will change because I have a feeling he isn't going anywhere.
This book really stands out because Cass devated from the normal college romance. The characters are older except for Lucas (can you say, reverse age gap romance), Mor is the Dean, the others are grad students and there’s a professor in the mix. The plot doesn't focus on classes, bullies, growing up, etc... No Cass has an attempt of murder, actual murder (pre-book), a shady AF supernatural government, and more. Most of that is just the first couple of chapters. And all of it wrapped around a huge conspiracy theory. A mystery is afoot my friend and I can't wait to see what other crap Mor and her guys find.
Blood on Ice was excellent! I ate it up with a spoon. I'm excited for the rest of the series.
Great first book beyond ready for the next book to come out. There is spice world building and multiple species including fae, polar bear, wizard and siren, not to mention a grumpy dragon. Morgana is a tough FMC that's not accepting BS after killing her toxic ex. Loved the character development

While I knew that this was going to be a series, I assumed that the next book would be about different characters, which is not the case. There is a bit of a cliffhanger since not much has happened when it comes to the plot and the characters are only just starting to really look into things. I was fine with that, but I’m less happy with how the relationships are progressing.
Morgana killed her ex for reasons that are being hidden from the reader and the guys , and her punishment is to take over his position in a university (the dean) and figure out all the corruption that’s there. She meets Lucas and there’s insta-lust. Although she says that she’s not interested in anything, she accepts/forms very quick relationships with all the guys - Lucas, Liam, Slade, Ignatius, except Kaspar who is resistant for now.
Morgana is supposed to be investigating what Magnus did, but it didn’t feel like she was actually doing anything. Also, a new/different threat appeared and dealing with it felt just as drawn out.
I liked the idea of this book because I thought that it was different with Morgana being the dean and all the guys being involved in the university in different ways, but it wasn’t explored much. Also, it was interesting to see so many different types of creatures.
Other characters appeared who feel like they have their own books, which I haven’t read.
I don’t think I care to continue with the series when the rest of the books come out.
"Blood on the Ice" is the first book in a new paranormal academy why choose romance, and it has everything I love in this author's work. We get a lovely mixed harem, lots of 'love is love' vibes, a captivating storyline, some interesting worldbuilding and a pleasant amount of easter eggs. I did wonder at times if there is a prequel somewhere to this first book, since we really dive into the storyline from the start, but because it didn't truly bother me I didn't go out looking for it either. And with the mysteries around Morgana's past, I'm going to assume there isn't one anyway.
For some reason, I always struggle a little with the reverse age gap trope, so in full honesty I have to admit I did my best to delete all ages from my mind while reading. It's also the only thing that bothered me a little while reading, and with how much I love the storyline it would have felt stupid to decide against reading it because of that. Overall, this series fits perfectly in the world this author has started creating in the past, feeling a bit like a mix between the Misfit Protection Program series, and the Apex Academy Capers. Mysteries seem to surround our fmc in this series, but I'm pretty sure the next books will reveal plenty about the men as well. And with a whodunnit trope added to the mix, there is a lot left to discover in the next books.
For once, there is no real cliffhanger at the end of this series, so no worries about starting an unfinished series at this point. And if you love this author's previous work, I can say it fits right in with the rest, making me excited to continue every series she's written in the past at this point.
Wow this was such a great 1st book in this Secrets of State U series!! I love how every chapter title is a song.
Mogana is a half-gorgon/half-gargoyle who was sentences by the Council to be the Dean at State U and clean up her ex’s mess after she killed her stupid dragon ex. But she couldn’t tell them EVERYTHING that she knew, but she figured that looking into all the horrible things he did at the university, she could uncover more to give them. Right from the start, it seems as though someone is out to make her life harder, when a rival hockey student ends up dead and the star hockey player who also happens to be the heir to one of the biggest and baddest families is the one being blamed. Lucas is a polar bear shifter, and after meeting Morgana, he just knows he has to have her. Except when they finally do decide to do the deed, they accidentally end up mating. Morgana ends up with a host of other men from powerful families: Slade – who is a siren from a crime family, Ignatius – his roommate and a powerful mage professor, Prince Liam – heir to the Fae Daybreak court, and Kaspar – Prince Liam’s bodyguard and powerful storm dragon.
Things start getting crazy for them and it looks like they are targeting Morgana by trying to take out her mates. There is something very sinister happening at State U and they are determined to figure it out before one of them ends up dead … or worse!
Loved this so much, and I am excited to see what is in store for them next!
I picked this up as it's a spin off from another series by the same author that I've been enjoying, and it does not disappoint.
It focusses on activities at the magical university, which the original series briefly visited, and their new Dean who finds herself collecting an unexpected group of guys while also trying to sort out the mess her ex left behind.
Morgana is a hybrid shifter, of two very unusual types, both of which I'm loving learning more about. She's strong and vulnerable at the same time, and does a fantastic job of dealing with everything that's being thrown at her. Her men are an interesting mix, and again there's a few types of supes that don't often pop up.
The overall story and plot in engaging, and keeps you guessing - and every time you get answers, you get more questions. The book ends on, well, less a cliff-hanger, more a set up for the next book, and I can't wait to see where that goes!
If you're reading Jolene's series, you'll see a few characters you recognise and references to a few plot points you might know however, at least so far, this series can stand on its own without having read the other - on the flip side, this fills in a lot of background and lore about the Society and various societies that tie in, so it's worth reading both!
I loved the start to this series. It was so well written, and there are so many mysteries that are tangled together that just make you want to scream. I have SO many questions and zero answers. I have enjoyed all of our MMCs so far. They’re all very different from each other but also seem to compliment one another as well. Morgana is a take-no-s*** kind of woman, and I am here for it.
Based on the book description, I did expect this book to be more hockey-heavy. But that may have just been me misinterpreting it. But, in case there as others like me, I want to clarify that as much as one of the MMCs is a hockey player, and one of the mysteries is about what happened to another player, I would not categorize this book as a “sports” book. There is not enough hockey involvement (ie. games, practices, players, etc), for me to think it’s sports-heavy (maybe it will be more involved in further books though!). However, I did not find that it detracted from the story. It is still a brilliant story, and the mysteries are so intriguing that you can’t help but be sucked in! I can’t wait to read what happens next!
Blood On The Ice is the first book in the Secrets of State U series written by Cassandra Featherstone.
💜 university setting 💜 hard pasts 💜 mysteries 💜 why choose 💜 🌶 spice
Morgana can’t believe what she is having to endure now. It’s Al because she ended up standing up for herself against her ex. Yes it was done in a rather permanent way ensuring he will never hurt her again, but still this is nuts. Now she’s stuck here at the university he ran, living in his old house, and forced to clean up a rather large mess he left behind. Of course life can’t be all that easy or straight forward, can it?
This is a fun start to this series. Morgana is a fierce character that’s hard not to like. Of course, the world building and character building is so great. There are lots of moving pieces and some Easter eggs to other series that pop up as well. I really liked reading Morgana’s story and seeing things come together. I was sad to see this installment end and I can’t wait for the next one to come out.
I am such a fan of the Misfit Protection Program world!! With this new series in the universe, readers are treated to a look at an oft mentioned locale - State University!
Poor Morgana has been sentenced to State University as the new Dean. When she discovered just how dishonorable her fiancée was, she took his head - literally. Now she gets to clean up his corruption and chaos. Maybe prison or execution would have been better?
What she wasn’t expecting was to have a hockey player end up on the wrong side of skate and the new star recruit the prime suspect.
While Morgana is trying to do damage control on top of everything else, she’s got students, staff, and faculty pinging her hybrid senses.
This first in the series starts strong and doesn’t let off the gas. The Easter eggs and action build a more complete picture of the universe the author has created and brings even more players into the larger Society board. No cliffhanger here, but make sure to take advantage of the bonus scene!
Every. Single. Book. By Cassandra Featherstone has me OBSESSED. I swear I finished this book then went to her website to download any possible suggested reading order form I could find. Trying to make sure I stay up to date because she’s releasing books all over the place.
This book was no exception. It’s tied into a total universe she’s creating and we will see some of these characters but it doesn’t appear to be necessary to read that series to understand what’s happening.
A total Bad A of a woman takes back what a man stole from her, her self worth! And after receiving her punishment for her crime, she’s sent to be dean of the school he was running into the ground. Filled with cliques, under the table money deals and everything you’d expect from a corrupt dean. Here she starts collecting her harem of fated mates which she originally assumed she didn’t have.
It’s amazing watching all these characters grow and heal from their past together but I’m most excited about this bodyguard who is still fighting his feelings.
Cant wait for the next book, I’ll be impatiently waiting.
This book is the beginning of a new series in the shared rainbow world that Cassandra Featherstone has created. This book follows Morgana the new Dean of the society's favourite university, who was placed there as punishment for executing her ex fiance. Whilst she is an educator she's never taught in America and certainly not in such 'modern' institutions as State U, where money speaks, it orders and manipulates and it's in charge. The first time Morgana meets Lucas he has been accused of murder (luckily he's innocent) but that triggers a full range of some of favourite characters from other books to make appearances as Lucas' defence team. Soon after the rest of the potential love interests are introduced and then the adventures can begin. I really liked this book. It had a lot of hallmarks the Cassandra Featherstone is becoming known for, it's witty, sassy, full of mythology, it's got adventure and violence and magic and spice.
Wow this author picks up from the first book where Morgana the FMC , Gargoyle/Gorgon a shifter was convicted of taking her fiance, Magnus's life, for good reason. However, her punishment was to go to State U to clean up the mess he had made. She no sooner gets there and there is a murder! Yes, you are now caught up in the story and it does not slow down. Oh and you must read to find about “Des” Oh you are going to love the line up of good looking men/sups. Each one is unique and sure to catch your interest. I would suggest reading what the author says in the beginning that each thing she talks about will be used if not in this book it will be in her other ones. So no little detail is unimportant. I would give this book 10 stars if able to. Yes there is a cliffhanger but it is so subtle when it happens you are like what did I miss something and you look back to double check. Get a big drink a nice blanket and nestle in to read this wonderful book.
Blood on the ice is the first book in the Secrets of State U series and is a spicy, paranormal / why choose story with multiple POV’s. I don’t know that I would call this a hockey romance…there are characters that play hockey, but I don’t feel like it is the main focus, or at least not yet. Morgana (the FMC) is the Dean of the university as a punishment for unaliving her ex who had messed up the school almost beyond repair. Of course there are huge problems as soon as she gets settled and she quickly learns that pretty much everyone, staff and students alike, are corrupt. UNTIL she meets the men that are there to help protect her.
I love Mor, she is sarcastic and has such a dry sense of humor that I can relate to, and she is also empathetic which I like. I love golden retriever Lucas, he’s sweet and charming. Kasper…yeah I’m not a fan. Hopefully he’ll come around.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book along with the world building and I’m ready for more!
Blood on Ice strikes a perfect balance with its pacing, steady and engaging, without ever dragging or rushing. The FMC really stood out to me. She wasnt a small woman, which felt refreshing and unique. Her shifter sides are an interesting combination and Im loving it. The introduction of the male characters was also well done, and I enjoyed getting their perspectives woven in. On top of that, the mystery element added an extra layer that kept me intrigued and eager to see how things would unfold. And for readers who enjoy spice, it’s definitely there, and it fit the story in a way that felt natural and balanced. I usually read stories where the heroine is independent but more submissive during spice, but here she takes on a more dominant role. It wasnt over the top and definitely intriguing. Altogether, this was a great read, and I’ll definitely be continuing the series.
I love being able to read the different series in this universe because every female main character is very different. Although I think Morgana is a mix of Kit and Rogue imo. So that’s pretty cool.
Honestly, I read Rogues book 1st and I think she’s my favorite. But I love them all.
So we have a woman who was given an unfair hand in this book and meant to clean up the bad actions of her ex due to circumstances that let her to get this sentence.
In the meantime, she meets all of her mates and they realize they’re in the middle of a conspiracy. Which seems to be the main thing on each of these female main characters journeys they’re all in the middle of the same conspiracy from different sides.
So reading it all it makes you wonder just exactly who is pulling the strings.
Morgana is a bad ass and honestly, her shifter sides are absolutely cool
I can’t wait to see how the series continues on how this world continues to unfold
No, no, no, no, no! I don't want to wait for the next book, I want it now!!
I've absolutely loved this book, normally I breeze through a book whether I love it or not but i've enjoyed this one so much I've tried (and failed) to stretch it out.
Morgana is amazing, I love her snarky wit and big accepting heart. I love how the relationship between her and Magnus is explained throughout the book, giving you just enough to keep you wanting more!
I love how Lucas is not what you expect from initially meeting him, how funny the Prince is, how annoying and prickly Kaspar is, how cheeky and oblivious Iggy is an how lovely Slade is. And don't get me started on Chan and Travis and their mottley crew.
Cassandra has given us an exciting mystery book filled with twists and turns, subplots and spice and I'm totally here for it all!
Cassandra Featherstone has created a paranormal world which is not so outlandish that it’s unbelievable yet it’s intriguing and draws you in.
Morgana is sent to be the new dean at her Ex’s university as punishment for killing him, and the more you read the more it’s revealed that obviously Morgana wasn’t just a ‘scorned lover’, there’s more to the story. Magnus’ corruption and dodgy behaviour can be seen everywhere and I really emphasise with Morgana for how horrible her ex sounds.
Very early in the piece Morgana comes across Lucas’ as the victim of a setup making him look guilty for a murder he didn’t commit and shortly after the other men in her harem are introduced. She quickly walks her way into their hearts and they all work as a team to start unearthing who poisoned Lucas, and who committed the murder.
I'm not really sure I would class this book as a hockey romance even if there was a hockey player in it. That being said it was one hell of a read I thought. I loved it from start to finish and Morgana (FMC) was chock full of sass, wit and a take no crap attitude was just brilliant. Morgana is exiled to serve her punishment for murder of an Ex - Magnus by taking over his job as the Dean of State U University. A job that's much more difficult than it sounds. With the majority of the staff and if not the students too are corrupt, oblivious or oppressed by people there. Add to that a group of men who want to be in her life to protect her (Loved them) and brought with them plenty of steam. I can't tell you how much I loved reading this book and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of the series.
This is the first book of the series. I really didn’t know what to expect and I love it. Morgana is my favorite. We get to know her some and as the story goes she slowly allows the others around her to know her but she is definitely holding something back. Her backstory is still something of a mystery and especially why she did what she did to land at the university. Then there are the men that she meets. Wow are they some hotties and each is so unique. We get grumpy all the way to sunshine with them. The story revolves around several mysteries that she and her group are trying to figure out while trying to stay alive and run a university. We get a few very hot scenes and I expect those will increase in the next book. I love that we get several unique paranormal species and hybrids. It makes things way more interesting and dangerous.
Cassandra Featherstone definitely brought the heat with her new RH Hockey shifter academy secret society Romance and I can’t wait for more of this world! Blood on the Ice is the first book in her new Secrets of State U series and was a fabulously entertaining read that I didn’t want to end! Featherstone knows how to pack in the heat and spice and this one is no exception!
Our fearless and fabulous heroine Morgana LeCiel is being “punished” for her actions and is sent to the university to clean up the mess of her ex fiancé and instead finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation featuring the star hockey player and the grandson of a fellow Society member. The question is can she solve the mystery, right the wrongs, redeem herself and avoid catching feelings for the five hot and sexy men that can’t seem to get enough of her?
I didn’t know I needed a shifter rh hockey romance series in my life until this one! Cassandra is a very talented authour and I am not at all shocked that she was able to combine these tropes into such an enjoyable read! This has a fantastic plot with mystery and drama. The FMC just keeps surprising me in a good way, she is really interesting, I am really liking her personality and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her! I am also totally invested in getting to know these men better, they are all so diverse and I love that the reverse age gap was slipped in there oh so nonchalantly ! I am really loving everything about this series and how many boxes it ticks! Its done so well that it doesn't feel like “too much” it flows well and it is easy to follow the story. I am really looking forward to more!
I got fooled by the inflated RH ratings on Goodreads once again.
A FMC who is 300 years old who is a Dean and has a harem of interesting creatures?? Sign me up!
Sadly it didn't live up to any of my expectations. The writing is subpar, there are no distinct character voices even though we get everyone's POV chapters, the dialogue is ridiculously wooden, the plot is thin, the harem already sort of happens by the 40-50% of the book even though it's the FIRST in the series (medium burn? I don't know her). We also have the usual paradox in badly written books with magic - magic is only used when it's necessary to move the plot but everyone forgets magic exists when it's convenient for the plot. Don't start me on random paragraphs in italics.
I grabbed this book when I got the opportunity to get an ARC of book 2. I had no concerns about not enjoying it because it’s by Cassandra Featherstone and all her books I have read so far have been great. This one is no exception. As expected, the characters are interesting and their interaction is believable. Though the premise is the same in all her books I have read (powerful woman with multiple mates), each one is very different. This one feels like it starts partway through the story, which isn’t a bad thing. It gives hints on what happened before Morgana was found guilty of killing her ex and I’m sure the reader will find out more as the series continues. I really hope there is a prequal at some point. The storyline is original, well told and flows smoothly. There is a lot of mystery and questions to answer. I can’t wait to read more.
Cassandra Featherstone has done it again! When I saw this was a reverse age gap, why choose, paranormal hockey romance with a murder mystery, I had to check twice to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I mean, who even thinks of this stuff?! But wow, it totally works!
Morgana, our queen of sass, is sent to clean up her ex's mess at State U. I mean, she did kill him, so it’s only fair, right? She’s fierce, snarky, and always has the perfect comeback. And just when you think it can’t get crazier—bam! A murder happens. Cue dramatic music: dun dun dun!
Of course, there’s a gang of ridiculously hot guys falling over themselves to protect her (and, naturally, take her to bed).
This is a story of power and corruption. Morgana kills her ex Magnus and as her punishment she is forced to work at his old school as the dean of SU. Morgana is awesome. She's smart, empathic, and courageous. There at the school she meets Lucas who is not what you expect from initially meeting him, having been accused of a murder he did not do. Then there is the ever prickly Kaspar, and of course the cheeky and oblivious Iggy. I would give this book 10 stars if able to. Yes there is a cliffhanger but it is so subtle when it happens you are like what did I miss something and you look back to double check. Get a big glass of wine a nice comfy blanket and nestle in to read this wonderful book.
Morgana was sentenced to be the Dean of State U for the crime of murdering her ex. She’s dumped into her ex’s hot mess that he left behind as the previous Dean.
This had lots of potential mates which brought lots of steamy moments. The banter between Kaspar and Morgana gives you the vibe that when and if these two come together it will be explosively hot!
I liked the mystery and storyline about Lucas being framed for the other hockey player. It brings in the suspense and being suspicious of everyone.
Morgana hasn’t had anyone on her side and we see these characters start coming together to show her she’s not alone in this battle.
We do get a cliffhanger but it’s a gentle one compared to some. It will lead us to a new location and a new struggle I think with Slade’s family.
This is the first book in a new series and I am loving it. It is a play on the typical academy romance, but instead, the FMC is the new dean of the school, put in her position in a twisted set of circumstances. She's out to write wrongs, her own and those of others. She was recently burned by love in a huge way, so when hot men start fall in her path, she is unprepared. Finding her mates is overshadowed by a murder and some devious intrigue. I'd say this book is a slow to medium burn. While there are mates everywhere, Morgana only makes it physical with two in this book. There is a lot going on in this book and so many questions that need to be answered. I am hooked and can't wait to see what happens next.
This was a great first book in the Secrets of State U series. Morgana was a sassy, strong and bada$$ character. I loved her snarky comments. She gets sentenced to clean up her ex’s mess as a Dean after she killed him. We still need to find out exactly what he did, but with the few details given I think he deserved what he got. Quickly things escalate and there’s a murder. There’s several mysteries that need to be solved and she’s acquired five men that become obsessed with her and helping. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning and before I knew it, it had ended. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. This is a definitely a must read. This author never disappoints and the puns make me chuckle.
Wow, what a book for the first in a series! I'm hooked and need more now!!
This is a reverse harem, age gap, academia setting which loosely touches on sports references. I wouldn't say it would be classified as a hockey book just yet but that may come more to the forefront in later books.. regardless I loved it!! Morgana is just fab, she's sassy and sarcastic, fierce and takes no sh1t... I love her!! Each of the MMCs have their own pros and cons but each seem to give Morgana something different that she needs and each compliment her personality beautifully.
If the rest of this series is as good as book one then look out world your about to be rocked!! Book one has suspense, mystery, spice, magic and twist after enthralling twist, I cannot wait for book two!!
