Unlock The Power of SystemsPractical and profound, The Power of Systems invites you to escape the quagmire of indecision and self-doubt and get into action.
What if the most important question you can ask isn't "What's wrong with me?" but "What system will help me create the life I want?" This simple shift of focus frees you to flow with life instead of against it.
Drawing on the fields of neuroscience and biology as well as thinkers like Byron Katie, Humberto Maturana, and Francis Lucille, The Power of Systems is your guide to a new way of seeing and acting in the world.
Hope is not a strategy. But it can help you find one. Where there's a will, there's a system.

Five stars for the shift in not only my thinking but it what I do and how it changes my habits. Through this book I’ve learned I spend A LOT of time in my head but not much happens materially outside of that space. I’ve learned from this book how to create simple plans of action - systems - that can really help me act and change, and move and do and create. This idea set lead me to some other discoveries about how this ties to our identity and back to how we see and view ourselves as well. Grateful for the message in this book!
1. Core Idea • Success comes from systems, not willpower or motivation.
2. What Is a System? • A repeatable process that automates desired behavior.
3. Why Systems Beat Goals • Goals are outcomes; systems are ongoing actions. • Systems reduce reliance on discipline.
4. Identity Shift • Focus on becoming the kind of person who naturally follows the system.
5. Simplicity Wins • The best systems are easy, clear, and sustainable.
6. Consistency Over Intensity • Small actions done daily outperform bursts of effort.
7. Environment Design • Set up surroundings to make success inevitable or easier.
8. Course Correction • Systems allow for adjustment without failure mindset.
The Power of Systems: How to Create a Life that Works by Steve Chandler and Trevor Timbeck is a compelling guide to escaping indecision, self doubt, and the endless trap of hope without action. By reframing life’s challenges as opportunities to build effective systems, Chandler and Timbeck offer readers a practical framework for taking consistent, intentional steps toward meaningful outcomes.
Grounded in neuroscience, biology, and insights from thought leaders like Byron Katie and Humberto Maturana, this book encourages a shift from asking “What’s wrong with me?” to “What system can I put in place to thrive?” The result is a clear, actionable approach to personal and professional transformation, making it ideal for readers who want both inspiration and tangible methods to create a life that works.
This book is truly a BREAKTHROUGH in the field of self-improvement. After having read over 100 self-improvement books over the years and teaching self-improvement to my own students, I realize that using systems instead of psychology is a way to make rapid and easy improvements to your life. Especially when in the past, no matter how hard you tried you just couldn't give up that bad habit.
The systems mindset makes you see things from a completely different angle. And a much easier angle at that.
It's like working directly with your source code instead of working on something that will never change that source code or system.
If you read only one self-improvement book in your life then this should be it.
I enjoyed this book very much. I think the fact that that the first draft was written very quickly makes it feel like it's back and forth emailing between two friends trying to figure out how to help people.
I'm implementing it's ideas in my life and it's working.
This is one the best simple and easy to read book.
Systems are the foundations of our life from natural systems to man made to our personal life systems.
The idea of systems is simple; what is the system? is it working? if yes keep practicing, if not then by applying trail and learning we keep on improving our system.
I would definetly suggest everyone to read this book.
Increasing the rating on this book because I’m finding how impactful it has been in the aftermath of reading it. I didn’t really want to like it but even through the works it’s introduced me to I’m finding even more value. It’s a very simple message, but a very important one in a world that is beginning to put therapy on a pedestal (therapy is super important, and this perspective is as well).
