Snowflake Falls #1

Merry Little Mix-Up

Rate this book
Eve

Christmas in Snowflake Falls is the most wonderful time of the year. The lights, sounds, and smells are pure magic. Living here is like being wrapped up in a warm holiday hug. There’s nothing better.

My cozy little world gets shaken like a snow globe when the house next door sells. Worse yet, the new neighbor’s tomcat sneaks over and makes himself at home on my Christmas quilt with my sweet feline. Furious, I storm next door to give the owner a piece of my mind, only to find John Mitchell—my first love—standing there.

It would be so easy to fall back into a rhythm with him, one where only he and I exist. As the holidays pull us closer, I have to wonder, are we just wrapped up in the season…or could this time be different?

John

Returning to Snowflake Falls is exactly what I needed in my life—especially right before Christmas. I’d forgotten how much I missed the holidays in my hometown.
What I didn’t expect was my new next-door neighbor to be the one who got away.

The moment she stomps over to my house, bangs on my door, and demands cat-support in the likelihood of a feline pregnancy, I know I’m done for. Eve is every bit as feisty and beautiful as I remember.

Being around her rekindles feelings I thought had faded, and the spark between us makes me think we could pick up right where we left off. First, I have to convince her this isn’t about holiday nostalgia. It’s about forever.

Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little "spice" or hot guys in uniform pants, and I'm a happy woman. There's just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.

I usually avoid second chance romances for exactly the reason i dnf'd this one. He keeps saying she is the one, the one who got away, etc. He left her for his military career in highschool, came back at 21, slept with her, and left while she was sleeping. Then he did not reach out to her in 9 years. He was living with another woman who he broke up with 2 years ago. Then he still didn't reach out to Eve.
Now he moved back and suddenly he always loved her? No thanks gtfo

Love these Holiday stories.

John and Eve were high school sweethearts but life took them in different directions. Now John is back in town, to stay, and is Eve’s neighbor. Eve tries very hard to ignore him however John makes that very difficult, popping up everywhere. It doesn’t take long for memories and chemistry to rekindle.

Fun holiday read. Easy to read, sweet, funny and entertaining read. Look forward to more Snowflake Falls.

Merry Little Mix-Up is such a sweet, funny, small-town, second-chance romance with a fair bit of steam! Lacey Black is the Queen of small-town romance and she does NOT disappoint with this one! It's a short read, but is filled to the brim with goodness and all the feels!

The re-meet cute in this one is EPIC!!! When Eve gets home from work one day, she inadvertently lets in the devil (in the form of her new neighbors' tomcat, Biggie!) who promptly becomes "romantic' with her baby, Miss Snowflake! Hilarity ensues when Eve marches over to confront said neighbor about "cat support for the kittens that will likely be coming" and discovers her first love, John, is back in town and bought the house next door!

I absolutely love Eve! She's feisty and funny, sweet and is someone I would call friend! As for John, I fell in love with him right along with Eve! Although, she never really got over him, after they re-connected a decade earlier when he came home for Christmas, but left again without a word to return to his job as a military medic. I loved how hard John worked to gain back Eve's trust. And the banter between them is hilarious, too!

This Hallmark-like love story (with a LOT more spice!) hits just the right note for a holiday romp! I loved every minute of it and can't wait until next year when another edition arrives! Well done, Ms. Black!!!

5+ Merry Little Stars!!!

Lacey is one of my favorite people to read and Merry little mix up is no exception. This cute holiday romance is all the cuteness of a Hallmark Christmas movie with some added spice all wrapped up with a pretty bow. This is John and Eve’s story.

Eve and John’s story began really 12 plus years ago. They were inseparable high school first loves , but John leaves for the military and on one trip home reconnected with Eve, but leaves Eve not only without saying goodbye but leaves her heartbroken 💔

Fast forward 12 years

John and Eve are thirty, Eve is working as a hairdresser in her mom’s salon and comes home to find her new neighbors cat and just having a good ole time with her cat, Snowflake. She goes next door to give her new neighbor a piece of her mind… n comes face to face with John

John had moved back to his hometown because not only for friends and family but also hoping for a second chance with Eve. Will she forgive him for the past and give him that second chance?

This was just a short and sweet holiday romance from Lacey , one that will put you in your feels at this time of the year. I just wanted more 🤷🏻‍♀️❤️. Another great book by Lacey

This small-town romance checks all the boxes for a perfect holiday read—second chances, Hallmark holiday vibes, and the right amount of spice.

This story had me grinning and kicking my feet! Eve and John were high school sweethearts until he left for the military. Ten years ago, they reconnected during a brief visit, but John broke her heart when he left before she woke. Now, he’s the last person she expects—or wants—to see moving into the house next door. He has other plans, that involve her.

Fate, and their mischievous cats, have other plans, and let me tell you, those cats stole the show more than once. I absolutely adored the characters, the charming small-town, and the perfectly pace of the story—it never felt rushed or drawn out.

I blame this holiday romance as the reason I can’t get enough this season. It’s cute, funny, and heartwarming, with a touch of emotion and forgiveness to add depth.

Eve and John were super close in high school, but years later, they're no longer close. Several years go by when they reconnect and old feelings resurface. I really loved the spice, love, and banter.

Their cats were so funny!

This makes a perfect quick holiday read!

I recently finished reading Merry Little Mix-Up by Lacey Black, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience that truly captured the magic of the holiday season. Set in the charming town of Snowflake Falls, the story follows Eve Christmas, whose name alone brings a smile to my face.

From the very beginning, I was drawn into the cozy atmosphere Black creates. The vivid descriptions of twinkling lights and the sweet aroma of baked goods made me feel like I was right there in the heart of the festivities. The writing is warm and inviting, making it easy to lose myself in this enchanting world.

Eve is such a relatable character, and I found myself rooting for her as she navigated unexpected twists and turns on her journey to love and self-discovery. The chemistry between her and the love interest was palpable, adding an exciting spark to their interactions that kept me turning the pages.

While I enjoyed the story immensely, I did notice that it followed some familiar holiday romance tropes, which might feel a bit predictable for seasoned readers like myself. However, Black manages to weave enough originality into the plot to keep it fresh and engaging.

Overall, Merry Little Mix-Up is a charming read that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the holidays. It’s filled with romance, humor, and a touch of nostalgia that made my heart feel warm. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars for its delightful characters and cozy setting, although I would have loved a bit more unpredictability in the storyline. If you’re looking for a book to get you into the holiday spirit, this one is definitely worth picking up!

A Merry Little Mix Up was full of sweet, joyful holiday fun and it had everything I hoped for.

Eve and John are high school sweethearts who separate after school as friends when John heads off to serve his country. Years later he comes home and they have a moment where those old feelings take hold. The problem was after, when John leaves Eve is hurt by the way he does it.

Now 4 years later John has moved back to their hometown and his new neighbour is none other than the woman he once loved. At first all he wants to do is make things right after his mistake but even spending just a few moments with Eve has all those feelings rushing up and he decides he wants more than friendship, he wants a second chance.

John was a great character with some possessive/protective alpha tendencies, but in a sweet way. He also had all the moves to win not only Eve's heart but her pleasure.

Eve was great too. She was a little quirky and fun. She had plenty of strength in her self worth, despite having a cheating ex, this only made her realise more what she was worth. She was also a little fragile, terrified of losing herself in John only to be heartbroken by him again.

I had thought the story had a couple of different directions it could go, Lacey took it in her own direction and I thought it was really quite perfect. Although, a punch to Eve's ex would have been nice.

Great holiday themed romance and I look forward to reading Eve's sister's book next.

Happy Reading.

Merry Little Mix-Up by Lacey Black is a heartwarming holiday romance that captures the magic of Christmas and the charm of second chances.

Eve Campbell loves Christmas in her small town of Snowflake Falls, a place as magical as its name. But this festive season brings an unexpected twist: her high school sweetheart, John Mitchell, returns to town for good and moves into the house right next door. Their reunion gets off to an amusing start thanks to John's mischievous cat, Biggie. From post office mix-ups to pizza delivery snafus, fate seems determined to bring them closer. Despite their efforts to resist, the undeniable pull between them grows stronger. Could this second chance be the gift they’ve both been waiting for?

Second-chance romances set during Christmas are a favorite of mine, and this book delivered on every level. The cozy holiday atmosphere, complete with decorations and sweet treats, was delightful. I loved how effortlessly Eve and John rekindled their romance, and how their families embraced them as if no time had passed. The humorous antics of Biggie added a playful touch, especially during the funniest moments. Eve and John’s chemistry felt genuine, and their shared history made their relationship feel natural and meaningful. The birth of the kittens was my favorite moment—a sweet and tender highlight.

If you’re a fan of holiday romances, Merry Little Mix-Up is not to be missed!

Eve lives in the small town of Snowflake Falls. She is still dealing with a break up, but not in the way you may think. Her ex fiancé cheated and now he is very publicly dating a stylist at her saloon and taking public shots at Eve. As if that’s not enough to deal with, her HS Sweetheart, John, is moving back to town and is moving next door. They haven’t spoken in years since they shared a passionate night where he left town before she woke up. Not only is he back and living next door, but his cat has fallen for her cat and takes every advantage to get frisky. Can Eve and John move forward or did John hurt her too badly to make amends.

This is a cute holiday romance with a sweet second chance between two people who were probably always meant to be. Eve has a deep love for her small-town and so many of her memories include John. John has always wondered “what if” and has regretted the way he left all the years ago. What makes this book cute is the friends and family in the small town doing what it does best, matchmaking. The additional comic relief of two frisky cats makes for a lot of fun moments. Overall John’s determination to get a second chance with Eve makes for a cute holiday read.

High school sweethearts, John and Eve broke up when he joined the military. And, the one time she sees him on leave, he’s gone before morning with no explanation. It’s now years later, John is back and he is now Eve's new neighbor . . Which she discovers when his cat goes on the prowl with her cat in his sights!

With fate tossing one mix up after another at them, feelings start to grow. Even though Eve is afraid of a broken heart again, John knows letting her go was his biggest regret and is determined to win her back

John is incredibly sweet and attentive and knows it's the small gestures that matter. Eve is a bit gun shy since he broke her heart once and her last boyfriend cheated, but once convinced to give him another chance her sassy and feisty personality shines through. as does her love, even after all of these years. It’s also fun to watch this small town enjoy the holiday season through its festival and traditions just as much as it enjoys the second chance romance they are witnessing between John and Eve!

Merry Little Mix-Up was as sweet as it was cute with funny moments in between making this a fantastic holiday romantic comedy. I enjoyed the romance between Biggie and Miss Snowflake as well! 5 stars!

This is a great start to a new series by Lacey. Eve loves her little Christmas oriented town. She learns that someone has bought the house next to hers but she is thrown for a loop when she learns who it is. When a big tom cat runs into her house when she is coming in and then does the unspeakable to her precious snowflake she goes to confront the new neighbor. She never expected her high school sweetheart to answer the door. John is shocked when he answers the pounding on his door and sees Eve. His next thought is that his mother is up to something. He knows he isn't going to waste this opportunity though. Eve is the one that got away and he never really got over. The more time they spend together the more they begin to fall back in love. However Eve is resistant to their spending time together. John has his work cut out for him. He is going to need to prove to Eve that he is back for good. This book was a great fun, second chance, small town, holiday read. I love Lacey's books and this is probably one of my favorites. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Great job Lacey.

it’s never ok to not neuter your cats

I usually enjoy the author’s books but I couldn’t get into this one. I suspect it’s because as a cat rescue volunteer (and the owner of a cat who died unnecessarily from cancer due to not being spayed early enough by her former owner) the romanticising of cats not fixed isn’t something I want to be reminded of.

There is an international cat crisis. Cats are suffering unnecessarily because of overpopulation. In 2024 we should not be owning cats who are not neutered or spayed not only to reduce the numbers but for health reasons. If this comes as a device plot at least do the responsible thing and mention that the cats will be fixed.

Again I realise it’s fiction but the vet’s blasé attitude is also laughable.

I did read to the end but this book just made me incredibly sad.

Children’s fiction has us believing that above all kittens are cute and informs us that it’s ok to feed cats milk and play with string or wool. None of which is ok.

Even the most educated people hold ridiculous beliefs on cat health and behaviour and I deeply regret reading this book.

A Wonderful Holiday Second Chance Romance

Once again, Lacey Black doesn’t disappoint. This is such a cute Christmas story that will get you in the mood for the holidays. Eve is a hairdresser working in her mother’s hair salon. John is an ex Army medic who has just moved back home after 12 years and is now neighbors with his high school sweetheart. This second chance romance has humor with witty banter, meddling moms, great side characters, and two hilarious cats that’ll have you laughing out loud. John and Eve’s chemistry was undeniably. With the help of a few little mix ups, those two were able to reconnect and fall in love with each other all over again. This was my first Christmas read of the holiday season and I’m so happy it was! I loved every little mixed up moment and highly recommend you read it too!

I knew I was going to love this one because of the author and being a holiday romance, but the best part is the cats! Those frisky felines won over this cat lovers heart. It's hilarious and the end heartwarming. This was such a great second chance romance. The magic of the season is going to help these high school sweethearts get their second chance. Eve was in the shock of her life when her high school ex moves in next door with his big tom cat. Eve's current ex is a real nasty piece of work. I really hope karma visits him because he needs a dose of his own medicine. John is going to make you swoon. I know this cat dad won my heart. This book had the perfect combination of heat, heat, and humor. I could not put this one down. It's one of the best holiday romances I've read this year. I'm already in love with Snowflake Falls. I'm so glad we get a new book in the series each holiday season. Something to look forward to. I wish I could go visit Snowflake Falls. The town knows how to celebrate Christmas. I would so love to do all the activities.

“The path we’ve taken to get here is in the rearview mirror. Moving forward, we’re only looking out the windshield, baby.”

Oh, the joys of a second chance – especially at Christmas! I found myself loving the comforting small town feeling with the little bit of drama of Eve’s ex that is smoothed over when she finds herself falling for John all over again. It was so good that I didn’t want their story to end!

When Eve’s cat, Miss Snowflake, allows herself to be defiled by Biggie (John’s cat) I couldn’t help but be invested how this would bring Eve and John together. They had a hurdle to get over from their past, but it’s clear how fate was determined to bring them back into each other’s lives. Even though the story is on the shorter side, I never felt like things moved too quickly. We get to see them rekindle a connection that leads to the spice!

This is an absolute MUST-READ for those who read seasonally. Put it on your list because you’re going to want more from Snowflake Falls when the second book releases for the next Christmas season!

How cute was this story? From the moment Eve is introduced to us, i fell in love with her. She was feisty and funny. The way she held her head high every time her ex showed up to torment her, was something to admire. But i think i loved her the most, when she thought John was leaving, she didn't give him the cold shoulder but decided to listen to his explanations.

The last time John left his some town, he also left a part of this heart. Now being back after 10 years and coming face to face with the woman who held it, was a wake-up call he needed to make her his again. The new beginning didn't go quite easy, but he was determined to apologize and explain his side of the story.

It was easy to fall for both of them and the way everyone was trying to help them back together made this book was it was. I highly recommend it!

Just love this little town reminds me of a hallmark story come to life and what a way for Lacey Black to introduce us to this beautiful town. The chemistry between John and Eve can in one way be desrcribed in one word, Kismet. These two may have been years apart but dang the love is still all there even stronger than ever. We see Eve trying to be the mature one but when it comes to her kitten all bets are off especially when a certain male cat is in love with her cat and well horny lol. In many ways Eve is somewhat jealous of how easily his cat wants her cat when she in fact is fighting her feelings toward John. One thing for sure these two are so in love it's easy to see how magical love is coming in this story. Loved it full of romance, magic even a big of comedy in it just right for the holidays.

A very cute, hot story written with characters that you will fall in love with! Lacey pulls you in from page one, and you won't want to let John and Eve go at the end! 5 Holiday stars for this one!
Eve is just living her life as a hairdresser at her mom's salon. After work, when she gets home, her new neighbor's cat sneaks into her house, and violates her kitty Snowflake, she storms over only to find her ex and only true love John has bought the house next door! Oh boy, as if things couldn't get worse, fate keeps putting them in each others paths, and he's sweeter than pie, how can she resist him, not to mention his cat Biggie keeps getting in to her home and violating her cat!
I loved this story from start to finish, this is one you don't want to miss, you'll be laughing, and falling in love with these two former sweethearts! Grab it asap!

“Stop stressing over it. Just a merry little mix-up.”
Merry Little Mix Up is an adorable SmallTown holiday romance! Eve is a Snowflake Falls lifer, she never wanted to leave her Christmas inspired hometown and is living out the dreams she set for herself. John grew up in Snowflake Falls and after 12 years away he is back to settle down.

Eve and John were high school sweethearts and now that they are neighbors they are remembering why they worked so well in high school. Eve rightfully had some walls up in the beginning but John was nothing if not persistent!
“I love my house, even if my neighbor is a little spastic sometimes and beats on my back door to read me the riot act,”

They were an adorable pair and their cats were hilarious. I’m so excited to see what comes next in Snowflake Falls!

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

John Mitchell is back in his hometown of Snowflake Falls for good. He is retired from Army, he was an army medic for twelve years.

On his first day back, his new neighbor, none other that his ex, Eve, came to read him a riot act and demand kitten support, in case his cat, Biggie, gotten her Miss Snowflake pregnant.

She’s mad at him for the event that occurred nine years ago. But a series of merry little mix-ups brought them closer, and they both realised how they missed each other.

I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other. And the cats was hilarious and cute.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a second chance, small town, holiday romance then you’re going to love it.

What a wonderful sweet, witty holiday read full of second chances and silly mix-ups. These characters and the fun banter will have you turning pages as they re-connect after all these years.

Eve is all about Christmas and spreading the cheer to everyone. Happy with her life but missing a partner to share it all with. Great friends and family that let her indulge in all the fun.

John has finally made his way back home after his military career and he is excited to live this next chapter of his life. He has one big chore in mind and that is to get Eve back. The one thing he let go all those years ago and she has never really left his heart.

Will she let him in again? Can it be that they were really meant to be all along? Grab your cocoa and a warm spot, sink into all that is small town Snowflake Falls.

This is the first in a new series, and this is Eve and John’s story.
Eve loves her small town, which is magical at Christmas, and when the house next door to her sells, she is shocked to find out that is her high school, sweetheart John. John is a military medic, and he does not expect his first love to come knocking on her door after his tom cat does the unspeakable to her little Snowflake. John is determined to convince Eve to give them a second chance at being together, but he has his work cut out for him.
This is a well written easy to read emotional roller coaster story, which has family, friendships, determination, second chances, humor, witty banter, neighbors / lovers, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, fun, and heartwarming addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Eve and John

This was a cute holiday novella. It felt more like a full size novel. It was a second chance romance with a little bit of “it’s always been you”. There was plenty of humor and small town antics.

Eve and John dated in high school until he left to become a medic in the army. They haven’t seen each other in 8 years, since they shared a night together and John left before Eve woke up the next morning. Now he’s living next door and is back in Snowflake Falls for good.

I thought the subplot with John and Eve’s cats was so funny. I love how they brought John and Eve together. They definitely had some things to discuss before they could move forward in their relationship, and I loved that John was aware of his mistakes and owned up to them.

John and Eve’s romance was so fun to read and the perfect holiday novella.

In my opinion, Merry Little Mix Up was a short one, but it didn’t feel like it. There was an actual story with depth and development. This heart warming-second chance romance was heart happy with a bit mischief that will have you giggling.

John and Eve may have been the main characters, but Snowflake and Biggie was the stars of the show. If it wasn’t for them, the progression of John and Eve would have happened lord knows when.

As I’m sure you can tell by the title, the Christmas spirit resides in every aspect of this book, and that spirit is infectious.

Merry Little Mix Up is a book not to be missed this holiday season. The love, banter, and wittiness is what the holidays are supposed to be about.

4.5 SMOOCHES!

A heartwarming holiday romance, Merry Little Mix-Up by Lacey Black beautifully captures the magic of second chances. The chemistry between Eve, a charming hairstylist, and John, a dedicated military medic returning to his roots, is electric and deeply emotional.

Lacey masterfully built their romance with a blend of steamy and tender moments, making their journey from past heartbreak to rekindled love utterly captivating. Set against the enchanting backdrop of a small-town holiday season, this story sparkles with festive cheer and the author's signature storytelling charm. Merry Little Mix-Up by Lacey Black gets 4.5 smooches from me!

Eve fell in love with John when they were teenagers however his decision to join the military resulted in them having no contact for over a decade. The last place she expected to see him was next door when she finds out not only is he her neighbor but responsible for the cat who has been bonding with her feline.

After his military career ended, he returned to his hometown to be close to those he cares about including Eve. Although their reunion did not go as he had hoped he is determined to show her that she has always owned his heart and the future he wants is with her.

This is a heartwarming second chance at love for John and Eve as with the help of the magic from the season they work to overcome the pain of the past and find the happiness they both deserve.

Snowflake Falls is a place where the towns people take Christmas seriously, this is no less true for Eve who has time honored traditions of when to get her tree, to the lights that she puts on the house. When Eve learns that her new neighbor is the guy that left her heart in pieces all those years ago, she just plans to ignore him. But John is determined to make it up to Eve and get a second chance. Is Eve's heart too broken to let him in again?

This was a super cute story! We are getting some really good banter, funny moments (the whole Biggy situation), some really good chemistry and a tad bit of drama. John and Eve gave us a true Hallmark second chance style of read. I give this 5 stars.

🌶️

• small town, second chance Christmas romance novel
• town is Christmas obsessed
• ex-military hero cat daddy
• high school sweethearts to neighbors to lovers
• frisky cats (+ their booty calls)

This was a sweet story of high school sweethearts who went separate ways when John joined the military. Aside from one steamy night 9 years earlier that ended with him leaving before the sun came up, they haven’t seen each other in over a decade.

John moves next door to Eve right before Christmas and after his cat sneaks into her house to get frisky with her cat, it was downhill from there.

Until it’s not and they kind of start over where they left off.

Totally adorable small town Christmas story with low key open door 🌶️ scenes.

A decade later, they reconnected during a brief visit, but John broke her heart by leaving before she woke up. Now, he’s the last person she expects—or wants—to see moving into the house next door. However, he has other plans that involve her.

Fate, along with their mischievous cats, has different ideas, and let me tell you, those cats stole the show more than once. I adored the characters, the charming small-town setting, and the story’s perfect pacing—it never felt rushed or drawn out.
