Elemental Love
Demetria, known as Demi, was born into a world called Elementium—a world that has evolved far beyond the basic human understanding of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. In Elementium, individuals can manipulate these elements, a power that humans would call magic but is considered the foundation of existence in Demi's world.
As an Elemental, Demi lives in Providence Four, one of the twelve Provinces hidden in plain sight from humans. This island, created over 800 years ago, is a sanctuary for the Elementals, shielded by a veil from the outside world. Here, every Elemental is trained to control and master their elemental gifts.
As Demi nears graduation, she prepares for the Judgment ceremony—a sacred event where her dominant element will be revealed, setting her path in the Province. However, Demi soon discovers that her fate is not as straightforward as it seems. The elements have plans for her that defy all expectations, thrusting her into a role she never anticipated and challenging everything she thought she knew about her world, her family, and herself.

sometimes, elders know best!
after I got into the swing of this book, I 1/2 expected Maurice White and Philip Bailey to descend into the pages & start singing “Let’s Groove”. Elements: get it? But seriously, Demi’s love life is a mess made by her love for state & her decreed marriage to Kai. Then it’s brother against brother as Rhys throws his hat into the ring. Honestly tho: the best part of this book & the fact it confirms about our collective need to read indie authors is this take: “Is love nothing more than a biochemical reaction within the body? Oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin flood your brain, convincing you that you are in love with someone, but of course, your body can’t sustain those high levels over an extended period. Once they start to drop back to normal functional levels, you are left with either an affectionate appreciation or unbearable resentment for your partner.”

Following Demi, or Demetria, through the hidden sanctuary of Providence Four, I was fascinated by the way the author wove tradition, destiny, and self-discovery into a coming-of-age narrative that feels both intimate and epic.
What stood out most to me was Demi’s emotional journey. She's not just grappling with her place in the Province or preparing for the Judgment ceremony; she's confronting deeper truths about who she is and what it means when your path doesn't fit neatly into society’s expectations. The mystery surrounding her elemental alignment added real tension, and without spoiling anything, the twist in her fate genuinely surprised me.
Hilderley’s worldbuilding is rich and immersive. The idea of a society shaped entirely by elemental forces, yet hidden from the human world, is both imaginative and believable. The veil, the ancient traditions, and the nuanced differences between the Provinces all added layers of complexity that made the story feel alive.
