Heartbreak Hockey #4

Friendzone Hockey

Stacey Alderchuck

Protecting you was easy, letting you go is impossible.

I’m supposed to protect you after the most horrific time in your life. To do that I made a No falling in love with you. But I effed up because I’m so damn in love with you that I ache for you without end.

For seven years, I’ve held you when you cried, looked after you, and made damn sure you got back all the confidence stolen from you. It’s just, the whole time, I’ve been pining after you like a lovesick puppy. Pathetic, I know.

I never saw a future where you could be mine, so I gave you no choice but to find someone else. You did and then you asked me to be the best man.

It. Wrecked. Me.

What I should do is let you go. Do what I’ve always done and smile through the pain of wanting you but not being able to have you.

I can’t do it this time, and I hope you’ll forgive me. You belong with me, Dash Nolan. It’s my fault you don’t know that already, so I need to make you see, or else I’m doomed to spend the rest of my life as half a person.

Friendzone Hockey is a friends-to-lovers story with some hurt-comfort, along with other vibes, like; Major Jealousy, Possessiveness Galore, pining for him, it’s always been you, and, as always in this series, Found Family.

Some of you know her as Mock, others as S. Legend, or Miss S. She welcomes all names but will often go by Mock, a name given to her by her readers.
Mock is an ambitious creative, weaving the most precious aspects of her soul into stories. She is an architect, building fascinating worlds, designed from inquiry, rooted in worldly wonderings. It’s an intuitive process where she is the scribe, the translator, the conduit.
It helped that storytelling was the language spoken at home. One simply didn’t say, “We have an ant infestation,” in Mock’s family it was, “I was on my way to the living room, when a peculiar ant crossed my path. I looked to my right, a suspicious line of them marched toward the pantry. In that moment I knew; my kitchen was under siege.” The natural flow of conversation always took this form.
And so.
When Mock wrote her first novel, she didn’t plan it chapter by chapter, there was no outline, no “plotting” to speak of. But she didn’t “pants” it either, she didn’t make it up as she went along. She knew how the story felt, where it curved in places and hollowed in others; she knew the destination it rushed toward. Instead of orchestrating, she let the world inspire her, and held space for the words to come, trusting the characters knew what they were doing. All she had to do was tell a story, as she always had done; like breathing.
This is her peace, her healing and solace: Gifts better shared.
Mock’s works are the comfort you seek when you need to come home. Her unique writing style will take you, wayfaring reader, to unexpected destinations.
She always says, “I’m not in the business of making up stories, I couldn’t if I tired. I’m lucky enough to get picked to share someone else’s story when I ask a question to the universe. Someone answers; I write it down.”

The reactions this book got out of me!!!! I couldn't put this one down - when I was about to go to sleep at like 12am I was just over 30% through and I said, oh just one more chapter..... next time I checked it was 3:30am!!! I had to admit defeat so I could sleep🙄 and finish it today, but this series just gets so much better with every book. I am so invested in all of these character's now, I need to know everything that's going on in their lives!

I really loved that we got to go back to the start of Dash and Stacey's story. We've seen so much of them through the perspective of the other character's in the series, but to finally see how they started and everything that's happened with them and to them was just so perfect. I lost count of how many times I said 'Stacey you fucking moron' 😂😂 I cried for Dash so many times too. He put himself out there to Stacey so many times, the rejection about killed me never mind him! So happy these two finally got their heads out of their arses, but it was like 85% Stacey's fault that it took them so long to get together 😂

For me, Dash had the patience of a bloody saint. I understand that he went through a serious trauma, but honestly if my parent and best friends had coddled and controlled me as much as his did I would have absolutely flipped my lid. I mean maybe their way of getting him to heal was the healthy way, but for me I found their treatment of Dash to be suffocating and stiffling. At times it did feel like they didn't actually want Dash to heal and move on with his life because they kept treating him as broken even years after the event! It did make me empathise with Dash so much, and it might just be the chaos gremlin in me, but I do kind of wish that Dash hadn't rolled over so easily with them every time. I wanted a huge Dash meltdown and them to realise how much they were overstepping 😂😂

I was also kind of waiting for something bad to happen involving Syd and Robin. Call me crazy but it felt like there was this ominous feeling around it all and Syd has been suspicious as fuck to me since he first popped up. I truly thought there were going to be some OTT shenanigans and that Syd would turn out to be a bad guy! But also Dash has been through enough... Damn chaos gremlin really wants the drama though!!

I am dying for a Bryce and Maverick book now that we keep getting glimpses of them. The Elkington men are just a different breed of possessive and the Myers are all nuts so I really hope that's coming soon! I'm also so keen to read Travis and Dirk's book, I want to see Dash's reaction, you just know there's going to be meddling from the wider friendship group, and I cannot wait to see them all living in their house together. I'm also hoping for more Brat Chats 😂

I have grown to love this totally insane series so much!!!

"Once we do this, you’re mine. Today, tomorrow, till the fucking end of time. No more Syd or anyone else putting their hands on you.” “No more,” I agree, reaching for his neck. “I’m yours, Stace. It’s … it’s always been you."

Friendzone Hockey is the fourth book in S. Legend's Heartbreak Hockey linked series, which do need to be read in order to get the overarching storyline, and because all the couples make cameos throughout the books.

This is Dash and Stacey's story, and I did find it a bit repetitive because we'd watched some of their relationship play out in previous books and particularly through Stacey's twin brother Casey's story

The story is told through a serious of flashbacks, then and now, spanning about seven years. If this isn't your preferred story-telling style, be warned.

What To Expect:

🏒 Best friends to lovers
🏒 Hurt/comfort
🏒 Co-dependency
🏒 "Mine"
🏒 "It's always been you"
🏒 SO. MUCH. PINING
🏒 Low steam
🏒 HEA

Not my fave in the series, but it will definitely be at the top of lots of list! Next up is Forbidden Hockey, and while age gap isn't usually my thing, I am looking forward to Travis and Dirk's dynamic!

spice: 🌶️🌶️/5
format: ebook

friends to lovers continues to be one of my least favorite tropes, especially when it’s paired with tons of miscommunication.

i do appreciate the slowburn of this story, and how the development of their relationship was the priority over sex. but i just personally got tired of the constant back and forth, and the multiple people they kept seeing instead of addressing their feelings with one another. i liked how dash’s backstory played out, and how stacey was worried about boundaries and what was not appropriate for them in the beginning, but again, it just went on a little too long. i think maybe if we got the past scenes first, and then the present, it would’ve been less chaotic to follow. but the constant jumping between tenses got old.

i’m still super smitten with these characters, and i love that they continue to build on their found family. cannot wait for dirk and trav next.

Stacey • Dash

….

“Don’t you feel it? The heartbeat of the world? It beats loudest when I’m near you.” <3.

….

Mock said - you want friends to lovers? Hold my motherefffing drink… holy all that’s holy. Pining galore, like these humongous cocktails, a Long Island Ice Tea, back and forth, forth and back, we have been served.

A needy, hurt boy and a natural caretaker soul? I mean 🧎🏻‍♀️…it was inventible. While reading the previous books we all wondered why aren’t they together, why Dash is with someone named Syd not Stace… why is Dash so co-depended on Stacey and vice versa and what the hell happened for them to end up as they were?

Mock answers all these questions and all other ones I didn’t think I needed to be answered but got them with this book and let me tell you, I needed them too. Seeing how these boys came to live in the same house, things before even book one. This one is a special one <3.

It’s a repeat from me but the best found family is written by Mock. End of. She’s making me feral with each book for other characters and their potential HEA’s, like I need them all, the redemptions, the happiness, the all.

Dash and Stacey, have my heart. These two madly in love fools, go through it but you know what’s the most beautiful thing - they go through it together, as friends, best friends and then soulmates. From the beginning till the end standing by each other, together.

I felt like I was fighting with them for that HEA and when it snapped, let’s just say I’ve heard the angels sing - alleluja. Bravo.

….

James Arthur - Just Us

….

“His eyes are brown. Just brown. But they’re deep, and they suck me in. There’s a shyness to them and a vulnerability so raw…” // “If anyone hurts him, I’ll rip them apart.” // “I chose friendzone for life over nothing at all, even though it kills me…” // “But my heart beats with those feelings no matter what I do.” // “I’ve lived half my life in those big arms of his.” // “Even when you think you don’t have my attention, you have it…” // “My arms reach around, and I imagine that I’m trapping him with me forever.” // “I shouldn’t feel the relief, knowing that I can, but I do, and it’s the sweetest hit of relief I’ll ever have.” // “With Stacey, it’s a free fall into warm rain, into ultimate solace.” // “His damn Bambi eyes look into my soul…” // “He’s not just coming out of his shell, he’s busting out of it, leaving the shell in ruins.” // “Taking the damn jersey with me.” // “This time, I wrap my arms around him with purpose, like I always do but with the intent of imprinting myself into his soul.” // “The thoughts won’t stop, but they stop when I’m with you.” // “Or a kick-ass road map from who you were to who you’ve become.” // “Dash’s Mercenary Angel” // “Your best pathway is with me…” …

Audiobook update: Every hour of this audiobook was such a pleasure to hear! Kale Williams has such a sexy voice and was perfection as he performed Stacey Alderchuck! He hit all the emotions so well - all the pining, all the longing, all the possessiveness, all the authority, all the protectiveness - all so good! Tim Paige also did a fab job as Dash and really brought him and all his emotions to life as well, especially between younger and older Dash. All the voices for this book were distinct and it was easy to tell who was speaking. One of the things I most love about this series is that while many of the characters/found family as seen throughout, each book is distinct in terms of tropes, issues, but also pacing, steam levels, etc. The series is a cohesive whole, but each book is its own specific adventure. All these qualities are enhanced by the excellent cast of narrators. Each book has its own pair that is just perfect for the MCs and I absolutely loved listening to Friendzone Hockey with Kale Williams and Tim Paige narrating - this was just a delight and I recommend it highly!

Another easy 5 star read for me! This book gave me everything - a super slow burn that I loved, all the spice once that hit, all the pining (sooooomuch pining and so many tears from me), and ALL THE FEELS from start to finish. This series also has one of the my very fave found families. This is a best friends to lovers between Stacey Alderchuck and Dash - the co-dependency, the need, the longing, the bonding, the love -- just loved it all and it was done in the very best way. I don't always love a past/present dual timeline, but I loved it here and it was needed to get the full effect. Dash is sooo needy (and I love a needy boy) and possessive too, but Stacey - Stacey just has my heart....he's..everything - such a caretaker, such a romantic, such a hottie, lol. I loved the over the top behavior of the side characters (the not-twins lent out to Stacey were extra fun) and it was def great to spend a bit more time with Sutterchuck....but Stacey and Dash may have just won me over a bit more. I'm usually so much about the spice, but I am here to say...this book won me over for the feels. "It was always you." Pardon me while I go cry some more.

What to Expect:
*BFFs to lovers
*hockey players
*past trauma
*past parental deaths
*trauma bonding
*mentor/confidante
*ALL THE PINING
*jealousy
*Hurt/Comfort
*Co-dependency
*Possessive/protective MC
*"Mine"
*wears his clothes
*"It's always been you"
*BEST found family ever
*the slowest burn
*sweet/hot spice once it hits

SLLLOOOOWWWWW BURN!! 83% until we get anything more than a one off kiss! Too much pinning and angst, and I don’t care for flashbacks every other chapter! These men are irritating! One is selfish AF and demanding everything from the other WHILE BEING ENGAGED! The other has no backbone and allows himself to be ran over! Atleast the audio is good. I almost DNF’d, but once they got together, it was cute.
Some readers like this type of slow burn, but not really for me!

It got me obsessed!
A MM romance with Hockey players, Friends to Lovers, ALL THE FEELS, Pining Galore, Found Family feels, Hurt/Comfort, Made me cry & laugh, "Is it rom-com? It's so emotional 😭", Moral dilemmas & Love of Years.
I had such an awesome plan to read it over the weekend, then when I started... All my plans got derailed! I got obsessed with these 2 & Devoured my #ARC in 12hrs— I read 1hr into midnight to complete this. Love Dash, Stacey & the gang!

Dash is shy, sensitive, a bit awkward, needy but also possessive, fierce. His trauma has shaped him, I'm glad he has a good support system 🥺.
Stacey is strait-laced, caretaker, gruff yet so soft with Dash. S can be quite protective, & also filthy hot 😆. He has his losses but always want to do right by D 🥺. S plays in NHL! (P.s. For hockey romance, there's not much game on page.)

While the story starts up by present with S's hippy days (of book 3 😂), we get MANY flashbacks to the past! The aftermath of trauma, start of friendships 🥰, vulnerablity 🥺, the Mentor/Mentee-ness that's cause of it all, the heart-aching love, rejections, hopes, hurt 😭. So much angst & emotions (killing me 😭😈). I actually understood the reasons (I'm glad) of them stalling, which still made me hate their situation 🥺.

Now at present, Dash has a fiancé. Have S+D lost eachother? With truths out, do they stand a chance? Or is it too late 😭..? The emotional-driven story had me hooked, I didn't realize that we don't get spice until towards the end & I'm not even mad 😆. All the wants explodes to be filthy hot 🥵. Love me the claiming marking 🤭. Friends & I've been waiting for em to be together lol. I'd've liked to see the vers scene on page tho (maybe bonus?). The ending's so sweet 🥰. So excited for Dirk's book!

Story Ratings:

POV: 1st person, Dual POV
1) Enjoyed? —> Heck yeah!! 5+/5
2) The Characters: 5❤️/5
3) Top feels: 😳🥺😭😅😩😢🤨😁😆🤭😢😭😍😬🥳🥰🥺
4) Steamy scenes: 2.5/5 (later ch)
5) Levels: Cute+Swoon: 4/5

Dark: 2/5 (trauma)
6) Creativity + world: 4.6/5
7) Plot arc: (Friends to Lovers, Ache & Pining Galore) 4.25-4.5/5 *still confused what to give 😅.

I don't even know where to begin with this one. I am ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY in love with Stacey and Dash. The needy boy / caretaker vibes were on point and literally had me in a chokehold. I messaged S Legend on chapter ONE saying "oh so you're going to play with my heart like THIS, huh!?!?". There was so much more to these two than we could even begin to guess from the previous books. Why did it take these codependent best friends so long to get together? You'll see and it makes so much sense. Did I still want to push their faces together and say "KISS ALREADY!!!" Yes. Yes, I did. It's so obvious throughout this book that Dash and Stacey are soulmates and no one else could ever compete with the bond they have. When they FINALLY get together its explosive and everything I needed it to be. I adore them and these two are perfect for each other.

-best friends to lovers
-hurt/comfort
-codependency
-he's mine
-jealous/possessive mcs
-caretaker/needy boy dynamic
-it's always been you
-pining

Okay. Now that we got these precious angels out of the way. MAXWELL!!! BABY!!!!! I NEED YOUR BOOOOOOOK!!!!! All of the future books in this series are to die for and I'm so stoked!!!!!

Ohhhhh the delicious slow burn. This was FULL of pining - one of my very favorite parts of friends to lovers. I loved getting to see the full extent of Stacey and Dash’s friendship and how it got to the point it’s at through all the many flashbacks. It really helped set up how they fell for one another, their bond, and the reason why they never took their relationship to that next step until Dash was on the verge of marrying someone else.

I love this series so much. It is funny, and OTT and each couple has their own dynamic that is a bit too much. Stacey and Dash and their codependency were no exception. These two literally could not live without the other. The constant touching, cuddling, reassurance, caretaking, and ride-or-die vibe was exactly what I wanted to see from them (we have been teased by this couple for three books already!). They were possessive and jealous AF

Stacy and Dash were well worth the wait and by the time they eventually confess their feelings and get together in this book I was gagging for it. S. Legend really built up the tension let me tell you. And of course their chemistry was fantastic.

And of course my favorite part of this series is definitely the found family vibes. And this one was more reminiscent of Book 1 where we have the household of boys doing their thing. Honestly I was LIVING for the Jack and Casey shenanigans. I think my favorite scene of the whole book is their Hibachi night.

I am so looking forward to seeing where S. Legend takes us next in this world. I know Dirk gets the next book but I am sooooo intrigued by the next Meyer/Elkington couple 👀 (I need more of the chaotic Meyers always).

This book is EVERYTHING I love in romance!!! Idiots in love, friends to lovers, codependency, brat/possessive dynamic, so much pining…that urge to throw my kindle across the room because they’re just too stupid to make the right decisions and get together already!

OMG. It was PERFECT.

I’m obsessed!!

I love Dash and Stacey’s relationship so much. They literally can’t function without each other. Stace needs to protect Dash and make sure he feels safe, well and happy. Dashie needs Stacey to be his safe place at all times, no one else makes him feel the way he does. They’re codependent and probably a little unhealthy and I love it SO MUCH. Their connection, their chemistry, the sparks are all there. They’re each other’s person. Their lifeline. They’re the “you came / you called” kind of people and it’s f*cking beautiful.

Friendzone Hockey is my favourite book in the series so far. I loved everything about it. Even though I wanted to shout at them, shake them, slap them and maybe kill them a few times, I still love them with my whole heart.

This is EXACTLY what I want to feel when I read romance. Drive me crazy all you want, I love that sh!t. As long as I get a beautiful happy ending, I’m game. I can’t wait to continue this series. I’m obsessed!!

This friends to lovers is told in a then and now timeline narrative.

Dash experiences a traumatic event but escapes. He meets identical twins Casey and Stacey but it’s Stacey who he feels a pull towards.

“The poor man doesn’t know that he’s the equivalent of my teddy bear. I’ve never touched him, he hasn’t seen me yet—though I’m sure he’s heard of me by now—but his presence soothes me all the same.”

Stacey finally sees Dash and walks straight into a wall. He stops anything happening between them when he finds out Dash is his bosses son and gone through hell. Instead he plays quasi psychologist to try and help.

“Stacey law says “no touching Dash unless absolutely necessary”,”

Stacey and Dash grow close, with Stacey protective and possessive. Intense feelings between them both.

“I’m best-case scenario to Trav? Wow. That’s a fucking honor I don’t take lightly. Now it’s my chest lifting.
“So? What do you say? Will you let him live with you, and take care of him like I would?”

Stacey is constantly fighting with his heart and his brain. He wants Dash but feel as if it would be a betrayal to Travis, Dash’s father. It’s a huge moral dilemma for him but he holds strong. He’s been there for Dash, helping him deal with his trauma, grief and loss.

“Why was he making me reject him again? “I love you, Dash, and I’ll love you forever.”
“You’re saying we can never be a thing just because you were there for me? That’s fucking stupid, Stace.”
“That’s what I’m saying, Dash.”

“And that, folks, is how you get effectively friendzoned for life.”

This book is heartbreaking. I get it, Stacey doesn’t want to take advantage of Dash, especially as they are already co-dependant. But he lives for him, would die for him, and knows Dash is the one . His only one. Ugh I wanna scream and throw this book across the room 🤣 He breaks both their hearts.

Sooo years go by of their requited love for each other. I think seven years. Jealous when the other one dates etcetera

And then Dash meets who he says is the one. WHAT THE FUCK. He gets freaking engaged.

“I’ve already lost everything else. My heart, my soul, my purpose.”

This book is pure angst. 😭

Stacey tries to move on from him but confesses to Dash that he wishes they were the ones getting married.

“He wishes what…? I can’t have heard him right.
“But … but you said nothing was ever happening between us. You said … you said—”
“I said stupid shit. It was shit that I believed, really fucking believed at the time, Dash. I was trying to do right by you, and I don’t regret what I did. You were too vulnerable when we met.”

Dash understandably loses his shit because of the timing. Anger, frustration and elation mingled with despair.

“I force a nod. “Yeah.” I do love Syd.
But not like I fucking love you, you fucking idiot.”

Omg after 7 years of whatever this is they kiss-

“I breathe Stacey. I taste him.
It’s a kiss that leaves no room for interpretation. Claiming. Possessive. I fucking goddamn own you.”

Ugh , so this Syd character has been with Dash for two years yet he doesn’t really know Dash, his secrets and his friends. Does Syd know that Dash has held himself back? Syd is a background character so it’s hard to hate him or like him. I’m ambivalent.

“I’m the most in love with Syd,” I say. “I’ve never met anyone like him, Stace. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a man.”
Other than the fact that he’s not you.”

Dash finally ends it with Syd, who ends up being an ok albeit boring bland background character.

It’s an emotional angsty journey but Dash and Stacey end up together in the end.

“What are you smiling at, Stace?”
“You. I love you.”
“I love you, too”

Honourable mention to The Bobbsey Twinks as Dash lovingly calls them🤣 “Hockey Daddy” is what they call Stacey.

Omg I’m so excited for Dirk and Travis’s book , which should be coming next.

“Dirk ducks as he enters the front door. His hat’s twisted backward and he’s wearing a T-shirt that says Daddy’s Boy across the front—it’s the one that really pisses Trav off, and I swear he wears it just for that reason—and a pair of low-slung jeans.”

Omg the pining is sublime in this one, go in expecting to stand on a precipice, on one toe almost leaning over to fall in but not really - it’s excruciatingly frustratingly satisfying 🥹😅. If pining and longing and missed chances and epic long lasting love is not your thing this may not be the book for you. If it is (as it should be 😇) please read this - it was stretchy toe wigglingly awesome! I am so curious about Dirk and Travis though but yes back to the current story. Dashie and Stace are the bestest of best friends with a dash (heap) of co-dependency thrown in. However, they are also well and truly aware of it and actively try to not let it inform their relationship which is extremely swoony and sweet and just lovely.

A horrific thing happened to Dash when he was on the cusp of adulthood and it took him a long while to heal and Stacey was his pillar through it all, becoming his person. Understandably this leads to all sorts of confusing and messy emotions when you throw the very real love and attraction they pull from each other. Then there are the good intentioned and well meaning but ultimately further forbidding forces that reinforce certain beliefs and they are both so young with so much growing up to do over the years that while their bond is unshakeable and always strong being together misses being on the cards (- I am trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible). However, in this slow burn, pieces obviously finally align, there are some epic realisations and moving on from the past and end is just a perfectly perfect satisfying swoonfest of all the love and burn I could possibly hope for.

This book exhausted me from the beginning. I didn’t like the past, present, past back and forth. I wanted to give up at 20% I was so damn annoyed with the story and the characters. I finally put the book away at 46%. I liked the other books in this series but this style of storytelling apparently is not for me. I don’t even care enough to skip to the end to see what happens.

Audiobook Review 🎧
Friendzone Hockey is book 4 in the Heartbreak Hockey series and oh, be still my heart. Stacey and Dash’s story was full of angst and frustration, but also, love and friendship. I adored both of them equally while simultaneously wanting to wring-their-necks. My heart broke so many times during this story, but if anything changed, the outcome would have been different. Tim Paige and Kale Williams were newer-to-me narrators and, wow, they were amazing at transforming Stacey and Dash into something real. I felt the frustration, the heartaches and the love these characters had for each other, with their performances.

“I’m a fucking peach…” 🍑

Stacey is the levelheaded person in their little hockey group. Everyone looks to him for guidance and reassurance, but that leaves him stranded with no one to guide HIM or to reassure HIM. So, when Dash enters the picture at a vulnerable time, Stacey steps up and becomes his support system. Over time, they become best friends and start to depend on each other… literally. As the feelings grew, Stacey knew it wasn’t right and forced himself to back off causing Dash to go into a tailspin of neediness. Doing the right thing doesn’t always FEEL like the best thing. So many things happen over the years, that would normally be funny or annoying, but in this relationship, it causes confusion and more heartbreak. Trauma bonds can be a powerful thing… good or bad. To be honest, their relationship was toxic and unhealthy at best, but the slow burn really put things into perspective, and I loved the way things turned out. Plus, Stacey turning out to be all cave-man possessive over his Dashy, was beyond sexy. See… like I said, toxic.

Read the TW’s as there are intense and possibly disturbing situations.

I am sad to say I liked Friendzone Hockey, but I didn't love it😭

Stacey and Dash's story is told in dual POV and dual timelines. I liked the beginning, getting to know how they met and became best friends. The rest of their story dragged because nothing really happens in either timelines, it's very much just back and forth between the MCs. I thought I was getting a book with all the pining but there's zero tension which unfortunately left me unmoved most of the time.

With this being said. At times I really felt invested in Stacey and Dash's story🥹 Dash's trauma left my heart aching and how he found comfort in Stacey was precious.
I love characters in love acting awkward - Stacey walking into a wall because his eyes are glued to Dash (more than once!) was one of my favorite moments.
And who can resist quotes like: "How many times am I doomed to fall in love with the same man?"

Tropes:
🏒 MM Hockey Romance
🩷 Hurt x comfort
🏒 Possessiveness
🩷 Found family
🏒 It's always been you
🩷 He's in my jersey so he's mine
🏒 No one will be good enough for you (but me)
🩷 So much codependency

This was more than a friends to lovers, this was idiots to lovers, this was about a broken boy who met his mercenary angel, about two broken souls healing each others, about a soul meeting his other half. ❤️
The slow burn 🔥 was worth it !

I was rooting for Stacey and Dash the whole serie.
I wanted them to be together SO hard and now … I know. 🥹
Dash and Stacey falling in love with each other was just beautiful.

The cherry on top was seeing Stacey being stupid, possessive, selfish…. So very human.
I love the selfish and possessive Dashie, this brat is just so lovable! I wanted to squish him in a hug the whole time. Possessive and Feral Stacey… 👀… don’t tell my therapist…. But I’m living FOR it ! Ugh ! 😩
The pining the whole time, was so good. The journals…. The pain, the longing, 😩 …. It was all worth it.

I love them, I just love them.

Loved seeing Stutter again, and the whole gang. 😍 I love this found family and I’m living for it.
Can’t wait for the next book, 😍

I literally just finished Friendzone Hockey and came here to write my review. Any review that I write will never do this book justice. Stacey Alderchuck and Dash Nolan. Dash Nolan and Stacey Alderchuck. Always and forever. I will never get over them. Their story will live rent-free in my mind. Friendzone Hockey was a transcendent experience. It had me in its clutches from the dedication, never releasing its hold until the very end. This was everything, literally everything.

Mock never, ever, disappoints. The writing was exquisite, truly top tier. You felt the characters' hearts beat in rythem with your own as the storyline progressed. The tension had its own living, breathing force that lept off the pages. Stacey and Dash wrecked me. You felt their truth, anguish, possessiveness, and frustration.I waited for them, these two soulmates to find their way. When it happened, I felt it in my soul. Their passion for each other was incendary. I cried ugly tears. You got it all in this book. It was a brilliant storyline that left nothing in its wake.

The characters we love are back, and they are the best. The found family aspect is perfect. Having all of this was EPIC.These characters are next level, and I adore them. They bring it every time. This was everything fans of Heartbreak Hockey series will love.Nolanchuck is exactly what I needed after Sutterchuck. I'm also extremely excited about what's to come..with all the Easter eggs dropped and Maverick baby, I think I love you.

** Make sure that you check your cw before reading to decide if this book is right for you. As always your mental health comes first

*Also, in my opinion, I would suggest reading The Heartbreak Hockey Series in sequential order. That way, you know the characters and prior storylines. They are awesome books. Plus, they are even more awesome characters. This is exactly what I always wanted my hockey romances to be; EPIC.
Read all these books and when your done, check out Mocks back catalog. You won't regret it.

~Friendzone Hockey~Heartbreak Hockey Series Book 4~S. Legend~

~Duet Narration~Tim Paige & Kale Williams~

~Production~Blue Nose Audio~

"What did I do? I made sure that I’d spend the rest of my life in hell is what I’ve done. But for Dash, I’ll live in the fire."

♡I'm so obsessed with this series it isn't even funny! MM mixed with hockey is one of my all time weaknesses & S. Legend does it so well! I'm not a giant slow-burn fan but the slow burn tension between best friends Stacey & Dash was chefs kiss even though I was grinding my molars so hard the neighbors could probably hear it! I also really enjoyed the healing that took place in this book along with the patience of the characters for one another.

The duet narration for this audiobook was fantastic! Tim & Kale both did an amazing job bringing Dash & Stacey to life along with all of our amazing side characters!♡

~As Always Happy Reading~

Dash has been through deep trauma. He found a friend in Stacey, a confidant.
When Stacey volunteers to take up the ‘life job’ to keep Dash safe and give him room to vent, he also gives up his chance to become more with Dash. Their dynamic wouldn’t be right, the balance between them would be off, and he would never be the guy who took advantage of Dash, not like… ugh!
He loves Dash but made clear they will never be more.
It’s devastating for Dash, who loves Stacey deeply.
But friends they stayed, through thick and thin.

It’s been this for seven years, and the situation is quite different. Dash tried to get over Stacey, committed himself to a boyfriend, and asked Stacey to be his best man.
That devastated Stacey!
Quite complicated right? Until Stacey dropped the bom about his feelings for Dash, that’s when it got even more complicated!

My goodness the hurt, the pining, my heart stuttered more than once.
I wanted to grab them by the heads and smash them together. Helloooo, you belong together!
Alternatively between past and present we get the whole picture. And what a picture it is!!

It was a convincingly written story, very captivating, real, with lovable characters and feelings all over the place.
It was hurtful, sweet, devastating, fun and much more of everything!
Thank goodness they have their HEA together or else I would burn my iPad down.

This is my first introduction to S. Legend! It is also my first introduction to these 2 narrators. I have been trying to branch out.. and I am SO glad that I did! I cannot say enough about the style of writing. Like a conversation between you and the characters/author/narrators. I found myself yelling at the narrators more than a few times lol I would often say something out loud in reaction to what was going on, y'know what happened? It was like they heard me! I will definitely be reading more of this author and listening to more by these narrators!

This story nearly destroyed me — not just because Dashie’s story is the saddest of all these hunks, but because the pining between them hits the hardest.
Even Forbidden Hockey felt shorter.

But I loved every word of it, and Mock really knows how to keep you hooked.
So grab your copy and dive in — but keep your tissues close!

i will never accept that friends to lovers isn’t the most elite trope, bc I will always vibe friends to lovers and Stacey and Dash were no different
Stacey was possesive, bossy & absolutely perfect for dash
Dash is sweet, caring and also a lot possesive
Their story was perfect and they have over taken Logan & Rhett as my favs 🥺

God this book 🤧 let me tell you, the pining is very strong in this one. The anticipation for something to happen was huge the whole time. One of the best friends to lovers books I recently read.

I’d say I’m more inclined to rate this one 2.5⭐️ but I’ll round up since I’ve been enjoying this series for the most part.

These two just pissed me off. 😤😡🤬

I thought this would be epically heart-shattering, but it fell flat. The start was good, I got it, but the constant flashbacks, pinning, and SLOW BURN quickly made me lose interest. Regardless, I've been invested in this series since Merc and Jack.

The middle deluded my image of Stacey, I mean DUDE HAVE some backbone! I thought he was this alpha male but he's nothing but a wimp and don't even get me started on Dash!

This wasn't what I expected, and Stacey and Dash are the perfect example of why I rarely do slow burn.

Tbh the story wasted too much time on the trauma than the romance which was disappointing! Because once they both got out of their own way they were the sweetest couple and by time they started the book came to an end which was just lukewarm

Anywho, I wanna know more about Dirk and Travis so yeah Amma be reading their story and I swear there had better be one with Maxwell after that closet scene hehe.

OMG these two stressed me out!
I spent half the book shouting at Stacey to get his head out of his arse and just tell Dash how he feels!
I love them both so much, I just wanted the to be happy and stop messing each other around.

Once again the voice actors were incredible. Every book in this series has been next level and I’ve loved hearing all these characters brought to life.
It was great to finally put a voice to Dirk, he’s been around for so long but hardly has any late time until now. I can’t wait to hear Dash and Travis get the audiobook treatment.
Oh and the bit where they read Stacey’s mums journals. Broke my heart all over again and doubly so listening to the audio.

Stacey & Dash

I'm rounding this up from 3.5. I really did enjoy the overall story. The bouncing back and forth kind of took a lot out of the story for me though.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

This is a friends to more sports romance, featuring Dash Nolan and Stacey Alderchuck, and is book four in the Heartbreak Hockey series.

Stacey has secretly loved Dash Nolan for seven years while protecting and supporting him, even pushing him toward someone else. When that finally breaks him, Stacey confesses his love, unable to let Dash go any longer.

This is a soft but emotional slow-burn romance filled with years of pining and quiet devotion. Stacey’s emotional confession finally changes everything between him and Dash, and the mutual pining, lack of communication, and meddling found family make it impossible to put down. I’m pretty sure I cheered out loud when they finally got their crap together.

Things to expect in this book are:
Book 4 in series
MM sports romance
Check CW
Slow burn
Friends to more
Size difference
Hurt / Comfort
Codependent & protective
Cuddles
Unrequited love
So. Much. Pining
Mis communication
Wears his jersey
Admit feelings
Spicy times & dirty talk
Rough play
Spanking & edging
Biting & marking
Humiliation & praise kink
Found family
HEA
