Okay, Wrecked Guard is a wild ride, and I am so here for it! This book reads like the lovechild of a rom-com and a suspense thriller, and honestly, who doesn't love that chaotic energy?
Tessa, our girl, is juggling ALL the things. A mom who has forgotten her? Check. Social media boss babe struggles? Double check. Death threats from strangers? Um, hard pass, but apparently, that's on the menu. And THEN, the universe (or a meddling author, let's be real) decides to throw Julian, her "love to hate" bodyguard, into the mix. Forced proximity? Check. Living under his rules? Oh honey, you know that's going to chafe in all the right ways. And remembering what his body can do to her? Insert fire emoji here. Girl, I feel you. We've all been there (minus the death threats, hopefully).
Julian, our grumpy hero, apparently hates Tessa. Like, really hates her. But, plot twist! Her impending doom makes his knees weak. Classic. He's the only one who can protect her, naturally, because who needs logic when you have sizzling chemistry and a dash of masochism? He's shoving down memories of her lips on his. Oh, the angst! The delicious, delicious angst! We all know that "hate" is just code for "I'm desperately trying not to spontaneously combust in your presence," right?
The question is, can Tessa survive the creepy cult? More importantly, can she and Julian survive each other? Will they succumb to the fiery passion that's clearly simmering beneath all the animosity?
Honestly, this book is the perfect escapist read. It's got everything: strong female lead, brooding hero, life-or-death stakes, and enough sexual tension to power a small city. I was picturing the witty banter, the stolen glances, the inevitable "I hate you...but I also kind of want to rip your clothes off" scene. And I was 100% here for it. I really enjoyed this book and I think you will too! If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced read with all the feels, this one's definitely worth checking out.
"You own me, Tessa. You devoured every ounce of me."
The second book of the Code RITE series, and boy was this a fun one. A bodyguard, hate to love romance with high stakes and forced proximity? Yes, yes and yes!
overall rating: ☆ ☆ ☆☆ spice: 🌶️🌶️.5
Tessa, our hard working, loveable and outgoing boss babe, is living the best life, organising the best hens night for her best friend, being a third wheel and killing it at work, until her life is threatened, and when she needs a bodyguard (even though she doesn't), she knows exactly will be assigned to her. The same man she spent a night a night with 2 years ago but regrets and dislikes him too. More like resents.
Julian, our grumpy bodyguard who keeps to himself, expect f0r when a certain blonde like to rile him up a little... after a night they shared 2 years ago didn't happen the way they planned, they have had it out for each other, so when Tessa's life is threatened, he is more the ready to drop everything and protect her.
Tessa and Julian such amazing banter, it's very dislike to like to it's core with a possessive and grumpy bodyguard that can't help but be entranced by Tessa. With her loud personality but bright eyes and filthy mouth who only seems to spur Julian more. Tessa, wanting to work hard for what she believes in but with her life being threatened she needs to lie low... and one certain man is determined to keep her in his sights.
With forced proximity in the mix, this book had me kicking my feet in the air and blush like a tomato! How Julian worried about Tessa and her saftey but it conflicted with his undying attraction to Tessa, and when the tension becomes too much as well as a jealous bar scene, their chemistry is through the roof!
I loved that Tessa doesn't cower and want to keep living life like mortal even with her life being threatened, but when she defies every rule Julian makes, the pull between them becomes too much and their need for control overthrows each other... but they make it so worth it.
Julian is a fun character to read about, how he doesn't like letting people close but wants to be in Tessa's orbit because he has always felt like that since he met her is just so swoony! Tessa's character is relatable but also so eye opening to what different situations people deal with.
A high stakes romance with plenty of suspense, spice and plot. Let's just say the only time they use code 'RITE", which is for emergencies, for Tessa when she's taken... yeah. He is a desperate man indeed, and helplessly in love.
A huge thank you to Renn for selecting me as an ARC reader again for this series! I always enjoy a bodyguard romance.
Wrecked Guard is the second novel in Renn Wells' Code RITE series. While part of a larger series, the book stands alone with a self-contained story, meaning readers can dive right in without any need for prior knowledge of the first book. With that said, the first book is heavily referenced in this novel, so it might be worth the read to know more of the backstory and supporting characters (the first book is about Evelyn and Marcus, friends of the FMC and MMC in this novel).
Set against the backdrop of Kansas City, the world-building is minimal, which might disappoint readers seeking a deeper, more immersive setting. Tessa, the female main character (FMC), is a refreshing departure from the typical young, inexperienced heroine. At 29, she holds a Master's degree and has an established career, which adds a level of maturity that stands out in a genre often dominated by youthful protagonists. However, despite these positive traits, Tessa’s emotional immaturity takes center stage, often making her reactions seem more fitting for a teenager than an accomplished woman. This inconsistency makes it challenging to fully connect with her. On the other hand, Julian, the male main character (MMC), embodies the typical tough guy—former military, current security expert—with a heavy dose of "macho" attitude. While his backstory should provide depth, his over-the-top demeanor and protective tendencies can come across as grating rather than endearing.
The backstory of Tessa and Julian is revealed through flashbacks. For much of the first half, their animosity towards each other is palpable, but the reasons behind it remain unclear. As the story progresses, both characters suddenly choose to confront their feelings and let down their emotional barriers. While this shift feels inevitable given the romantic setup, it comes across as abrupt, particularly because of the way the relationship is portrayed. The passage of time isn’t always clear, with entire weeks slipping by between chapters. This makes the romantic development feel rushed, and the quick transition from animosity to passion lack the emotional depth that would normally make such a change feel earned.
The book leans heavily into spice rather than plot. If you're looking for a steamy romance, this book delivers in that department, though the narrative itself can feel predictable and lacking in depth. The action and romance are both fast-paced and charged, but those looking for intricate storylines or strong character development might feel let down by the simplicity of the plot.
Ultimately, Wrecked Guard is a fun, quick read with plenty of spicy moments, making it ideal for those looking for a light, easy escape. While it may not offer much in terms of world-building or character growth, its balance of romance and heat will appeal to readers who enjoy that particular formula. However, if you’re in the mood for a more complex or emotionally resonant story, this may not be the book for you.
Quickie Review: This was a new to author. And while the story was good and the romance was amazing, I couldn’t connect with the characters like I had hoped. I even guess who may have been after Tessa the entire time, earlier on in the story. While this could have been a standalone, I feel you would benefit more from reading the first book of the series. I just felt like I was missing something from the previous story at every turn. Whether it be that connection with the characters or the storyline itself. Still a good read and well written, I recommend for anyone who loves a little mystery with their romance and stories. 4 Stars.

Listen, if he’s not going to go to the doctor to pretend he has asthma and request he get the same exact prescription you need, just so he can carry an extra inhaler on him at all times…is he even that into you? No. He’s not. If he doesn’t have that level of dedication…boy, bye.

That level of commitment? Enter Julian.
Julian despises Tess. One night shared together two years ago was supposed to end differently, but she left. Left him and all he was offering. But, when Tessa’s life is in danger, there is no one who is better equipped to protect her. Julian will suppress the memories of Tess’s body molded to his in order to do his job and not be wrecked by what could have been.
Tessa’s life is seemingly going well…until threatening letters show up at her work, putting her and those she loves at risk. Now, she needs a bodyguard and it’s just her luck it’s the man who can’t stand her. Now, Tess has to live under Julian’s roof and under his rules, all while trying to NOT think about what he’s capable of doing to her body. Easy enough, right? 🤭
During their time together both Julian and Tess start to see through each other’s tough exteriors that they show to the world, and scale each other’s walls that are set up to guard their hearts. Is their road to finding happiness easy? No. Is it a hard won HEA with bumps along the road? Yes (it wouldn’t be a good bodyguard romance if the outside threats weren’t trying to destroy their chance at happiness). Through it all, Julian and Tess can’t deny how they feel about one another and when they give into the undeniable and electric current pulsing between them? WHEW! 🥵 Game over. Done deal. Daddy Julian is going to make sure he is here to stay.
If you enjoy a good “hate to love”/frenemies to lovers situation, with an overprotective, alphahole MMC who is secretly an ooey gooey cinnamon roll for his woman, then this is for you.
Tessa and Julian, who had been in each other’s orbits for a few years due to their shared friends and a memorable night together two years ago, found themselves in a tumultuous relationship. Initially, their connection was strong, but it took a sour turn, leading them to harbor animosity and attempt to distance themselves.
However, Tessa’s life took a dangerous turn when she received negative and threatening attention. Realizing her safety, she sought the help of a bodyguard, and unfortunately, Julian emerged as the best candidate for the job. Their paths were now forced to intertwine as they were both required to spend an inordinate amount of time together until Tessa felt secure.
Tessa and Julian’s banter is incredibly entertaining, a delightful mix of dislike and attraction. Julian, a possessive and grumpy bodyguard, can’t help but be entranced by Tessa’s loud personality, bright eyes, and filthy mouth, which only seems to stir up Julian’s feelings. Despite her desire to work hard for her beliefs, Tessa’s life is threatened, forcing her to go into hiding. One man is determined to keep her in his sights.
With forced proximity, the book had me blushing. Julian’s concern for Tessa’s safety and his undying attraction to her created a delightful tension.
I loved Tessa’s defiance of Julian’s rules. She refused to cower and live like a mortal even in the face of danger. However, when she defied every rule he made, the pull between them became irresistible.
Julian is a fun character to read about. He doesn’t like letting people get close to him, yet he wants to be in Tessa’s orbit because he’s always felt that way since he met her. It’s just so swoon-worthy! Tessa’s character is relatable and also eye-opening to the different situations people deal with.
This high-stakes romance is filled with suspense, spice, and a compelling plot.
🛡 Hot Bodyguards, Badass Heroines, and My New Favorite Obsession ❤️🔥
Indie author Renn Wells reached out to me at the beginning of October to see if I wanted an early peek at "Forbidden Guard", the newest book in her "Code RITE" series. I said yes, fully expecting to read a single chapter before bed. Instead, I was dragged headfirst into a 48-hour reading vortex. I devoured "Forbidden Guard", immediately sprinted back to "Broken Guard", and then marathoned my way through "Wrecked Guard". These books didn’t just hook me - they staged a full-blown emotional abduction.
These romances have bite but still manage to be deeply tender. The heroines are everything I love in an FMC: sharp, independent, strong-willed, emotionally layered, and unapologetically themselves. And the men? Steady, intuitive, a little bruised in all the right ways, and absolutely the type to throw themselves between the ones they love and the dangers that threaten them. Every pairing in this series feels like two storms colliding back into balance.
There’s humor threaded through both the havoc and the peace. The banter was perfect and the emotional punches hit harder than expected. Some crept up on me and made my chest go a little achey. I laughed, I cried, and I yelled internally at more than one fictional man. My entire emotional bandwidth was basically hijacked.
Finishing this trilogy reminded me of the quintessential ’90s bodyguard classic starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Naturally, I had to rewatch it. There’s just something about ending a series steeped in “emotionally tortured man willing to take a bullet for his woman” energy and then diving straight into that movie. It felt like the perfect cinematic encore.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This is my first book, of Renn's, and I was not disappointed at all. We get just enough of Tessa & Julian's background hook-up to get us interested in their second chance. I won't lie when I tell you that the stubbornness, from both characters, will make you want to smack them at times. Other times, however, you'll melt, swoon, cry, scream, etc.
Apart from her mother's health, Tessa appears to be loving her life & PR career. Julian is former military & working at a security firm nearby. Although enemies, it's clear there's something there just from pranks they appear to pull on each other. (Hello bachelorette party & makeup bachelorette!) Things change drastically when her life is being threatened, at work, and his company is called in.
Once things hit, they definitely hit. I'm talking about drama, spice, suspense, everything. There is definitely a plot twist that most won't see coming, but I definitely had my suspicions about. I enjoyed the twists & turns and adored this read.
You thought I would have learned, from one of my last ARCs, that I really need to read the previous standalone before starting a new one...but I didn't! 🤣🤣 I am MORE than desperate to read book #1, and to get Evelyn & Marcus' story. Let's just say that I'm seriously thinking about forgoing the rest of my ARCs and TBR list to read that, and actually purchased it to do so! Please please please let Tanner get his own story next! 🥺
Thank you, Renn Wells, for allowing me early access to this! Great job!
Tessa and Julian have been in each other's orbits for a few years thanks to their shared friends and shared night together two years ago. What started as a great night together, ended on a sour note. Ever since then, they have tried to set aside their attraction and hate one another.
Unfortunately for them, Tessa needs a body guard to protect her 24/7 after getting some negative and threatening attention. The best person for the job is none other than Julian. These two are now forced to spend all their time together until Tessa is safe.
Tessa is an incredibly career focused woman that likes to stay busy and keeps her professional life well organized. When it comes to her personal life, it is almost the complete opposite. This definitely made her a much more relatable character, as I think many readers can understand that while you may have your stuff together in one or more areas of your life, that doesn't always apply to everything else. It was very interesting to see her character development as she learns to open up to others and accept help.
Julian was also an interesting character. He seems to be in his head a lot and struggles to communicate his feelings, which again, many readers can relate to. It is always so satisfying to read about a male character that learns to talk about his feelings and express his fears.
Reading about these two finally talk about their past and transition to friends, and eventually more, was quite the ride.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC
TESSA & JULIAN 🥰 So we met these babes in Broken Guard, and we pick up at Ev’s wedding. It was so fun to see Ev, Marcus, and Frederick again. I think Renn did a really really good job giving us enough of previous to keep us really connected to each book.
The story! WOOF. Tess is a club promoter/market agent responsible for the nightlife of KC. Her success as a promoter garnered the attention of a hateful organization of moms with the agenda to eliminate any “threats to their children”… which includes Tess. This is piled on top of Tess’s already full plate. As the main caretaker of her mother who suffers from dementia, Tess has more on her shoulders than she’s able to carry. These parts hit me the hardest as I have experience with loving someone who slowly forgets you and was worried it may be triggering but the way it was handled with such care was both beautiful painful at the same time.
After receiving a series of threatening letters, Tess has to go to the last person she wants to see: Julian. Despite their history, Julian makes it his mission to protect Tessa from any and all threats. The problem is they can’t see the U-Boat until it’s too late.
The spice was SPICING. I really enjoyed the different dynamic of Tessa & Julian vs. Evelyn & Marcus but absolutely love their little found family.
I highly recommend this book. Definitely start with Broken Guard so you can fall in love with Tessa before getting her whole story.
Looking forward to watching the rest of DiTello security fall in love!
REVIEW Tessa and Julian had a one night stand, and ever since, they can’t stand to be around each other; however their best friends are married to each other, so they are forced together more often than not. When Tessa’s life comes under threat, Julian won’t let anyone else protect her, so he becomes her bodyguard, and she has to live with him and follow his rules to stay safe. As the danger around Tessa increases, and her conflicting desires to strangle Julian one moment and then think about what his hands can do to her the next, their wrecked relationship keeps the tension high.
Julian has a funny way of showing his hatred of Tessa. He keeps her prescription asthma medicine on hand, ensures she eats and takes care of herself, and his over the top protectiveness keep Tessa confused about how he really feels about her. The tension and banter between these two is one of my favorite parts of the books. The plot is well paced, and the supporting characters are as interesting to read about as the MCs. The author’s handling of mental health issues and trauma give additional depth to the characters and make their experiences so realistic.
If you are looking for a sexy, second chance, action-filled,forced proximity romance where he falls first, I highly recommend this book. Although the book can be read as a standalone, I loved this one so much I now want to read Book 1 and learn more about their friends, Evelyn and Marcus, in The Broken Guard.
Thank you Renn Wells for the advanced copy. As always this is my own honest thoughts and opinions. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
This is my first book by Renn Wells and it definitely won't be my last. Wrecked Guard is a fast-paced enemies to lovers, second chance, romantic suspense novel. Tessa works in PR taking on a huge project, juggles caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's, and watching out for her friends who are about to get married. When she receives threatening letters at her office, she has her boss call DiTello Security agency, which is owned by her best friend's husband and where Julian, the guy she loves to hate works. Julian loves to irritate Tessa, just to see her reactions, but when her life is on the line, he starts to realize that his feelings for Tessa might be more than he thought.
The tension between Tessa and Julian is sooo good! The story is dual perspective and has a few flashbacks to their shared past. I could so relate to Tessa's struggle dealing with her mom's dementia. It's agonizing when your loved one doesn't know who you are anymore. It's obvious that the author has had experience with this personally. With emotionally charged scenes, action, and a lot of romance, this story is one I would recommend to anyone who is looking to escape reality for several hours, for those who love books with heart and depth, and for anyone who enjoys a good enemies to lovers or bodyguard trope.
Wrecked Guard is book two in the interconnected Code RITE Series, but can be read as a standalone.
𝐖𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 is the 2nd book in the Code Rite series by Renn Wells, featuring a spicy and emotional bodyguard romance for Tessa and Julian with fun frenemies to lovers vibes and a riveting suspense plot! She ghosted him after a night together two years ago and it’s been tense in their friend group ever since. But now Tessa’s receiving serious threats at work, and no one else is going to be her bodyguard but him. Can they untwist the plot against her, settle their issues, and give into some of that fiery passion and maybe more before it’s too late?
I was already intrigued by Tessa and Julian when I read the first book, so I was excited to read this story! It did not disappoint! I loved Tessa’s strong, sassy independent vibe, as she dominated at work and showed the utmost love, compassion, and respect in the way that she cared for her mama! Cue the tears!😭 I’m so glad that her friendship with Evelyn carried over to this book as well. I enjoyed picturing Grumpy Julian go from bodyguard mode to secret cinnamon roll hero to spicy alpha in the bedroom. I did feel a few flow disruptions of sorts. The suspense aspect was fantastic, with twists and action, and I’d be immersed in that, but it would be interrupted by another steamy scene. Don’t get me wrong, I love spice as much as the next girl, but the frequency of it seemed to disrupt the story at times. They sure did bring the heat, though.😉🔥 It was fun to sleuth this one out. I loved the epilogue as well.
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶.5
This was soooo good! We jump back into the Code Rite series with this and I have been dying for this story after reading the first book.
Tessa works in PR and primary is known through social media by the masses. So when she received some threatening letters, the obvious choice is to hire protection. Lucky for her, she has an in with a great personal protection firm 😏
Julian finds out what's going on and insists on being the one to watch over Tessa. Because of course he is.
The tension between the two was so thick. The will they or won't they kept me on the edge of my seat. You wanted them to give in so badly but at the same time not. The anxiety of waiting to see what would happen next with the threats Tessa was getting definitely kept me reading to find out what would happen next and who was really behind it all. I can honestly say it was until right before the truth was revealed that I guessed who was behind it. I definitely did not guess the why however.
There was also a lot of found family vibes which added so much to the story. I absolutely loved the side characters, especially Julian's sister 🤭
I highly recommend reading this series if you have the chance. I know I will definitely be continuing it when the author puts out more books!
After receiving a slew of letters threatening her life, Tessa is now under the protection of a bodyguard. The one small problem is that bodyguard is Julian. The same man who she had a one night stand with a couple of years ago, and now all they can do is bicker with each other. Now she has to live under his protection, in his home, until they can find out who is threatening her life. Will they be able to put aside their feelings long enough to keep Tessa safe, or will it end up in a huge disaster?
Wrecked Guard is book two in the Code Rite series. This can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading this series in order. From the brief interaction Tessa and Julian had in Broken Guard, I knew their story was going to be a good one, and it did not disappoint!! In the beginning, they had this whole hate flirt with the best banter going on. When they were forced together so Julian could protect Tessa, there was no denying their attraction to each other. Julian was major possessive and protective, and his "mine" vibes were incredibly hot. Tessa was a complete badass who rocked her career and wasn't going to take the threats against her sitting down. The suspense in this one was over the top, and the end got CRAZY!! I love this series, and I hope there's more to come.
Wrecked Guard is the second book in Renn Wells’ Code RITE series, but don't sweat it if you haven’t read the first one—you can dive right in from here. I hadn’t read book one, and I was hooked! This book serves up a fun and engaging bodyguard romance that’s a joy to read. It features beloved tropes like frenemies to lovers and forced proximity, two of my favorites.
Tessa’s world gets turned upside down when she starts receiving creepy death threats at work, prompting Julian to step in as her protector. However, while Tessa juggles her hectic career, a sick mom, and her personal life, things get a bit messy with Julian around. Can Julian keep Tessa safe from the shadowy threats stalking her, or will she find herself battling nightmares and real dangers?
I received this ARC from Renn in exchange for my honest opinion on this book. I truly enjoyed reading Wrecked Guard. The flow of the story was well thought out, boasting a good mix of plot and spice. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and look forward to more from Renn!

These two. I wanted to smack them both so hard at moments. I haven’t read a body guard romance in a while and this was a great one for me to read to get back in to them. Both Julian and Tessa didn’t know how to handle their feelings for each other so they went right for riling up one another. They had one night where both gave in to temptation and by the morning Tessa was gone from his bed, but not his life. That’s what happens when your best friends are married to each other. You could literally feel the tension between the two of them radiating off the page. There is not a crazy amount of spice but let me tell you it hits when it’s there… the mouth on that man just makes you melt. We also stan a man who pays up close and personal attention to detail… especially when it’s about his ladies pleasure. And we also love a man who will fake having asthma just so he can get the same type of inhaler she uses. That way he can have one on him just in case she needs it. I’m here for it. Add in the fact that someone is after our leading lady and it just makes for a wild ride. I’m excited to see what else comes from this universe.
I have been so excited for this book and it did NOT disappoint! This is the second book in The Code RITE series but they can all be read as stand alones. That being said, reading book 1 definitely made me already so attached to these characters. We meet both Tessa (the FMC) and Julian (the MMC) in book 1 of the series, so I already knew a little about them before I started this book. That being said, nothing could have prepared me for how much I would love both of them by the end of book 2. Tessa is a highly independent and strong willed influencer who has had to carry so much on her own for such a long time. Julian is a burly bodyguard who adores her but can’t admit to himself, or anyone else, the way he truly feels. At first they are like oil and water and they are constantly in a battle of wills and witty remarks but all of that changes once Tessa is in danger. I loved watching their relationship develop and the character growth for both of them was phenomenal. This story was a wild ride with twist and turns from the very beginning and I already can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
Wrecked Guard is the second book in The Code Rite Series. Tessa is excelling in her job and just received a promotion, but when she starts receiving threats everything is thrown into perspective. Now she’s been assigned a bodyguard who she hates…or maybe loves… and she needs to follow his rules, but following rules isn’t Tessa’s strong suit. Can Tessa stand Julian long enough for his team to find the culprits or will she end up giving into her mixed feelings and about Julian and cross that line?
This book is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book so I know from experience that you can follow this story perfectly fine without reading the first one. This book is fast paced and has a lot going on. The ending caught me by surprise and I did like how everything tied up at the end. I really wanted to love this book because I enjoyed the bodyguard romance angle, but I couldn’t get into this one too much. That feeling had a lot to do with the fact that I didn’t really like Tessa and Julian was just okay. Overall this book wasn’t bad. It was well written and the story was well thought out, but Tessa’s attitude was too much for me.
The bodyguard who is already in love without realizing it.
Tessa:
A girl who has a lot on her plate, but not willing to share any of the hurt she's feeling.
From the first book to now the most awaited second book, my favorite author and the one who started my ARC journey comes the book Wrecked Guard. The story of two people who seem to hate each other but want to be around one another at the same time.
Tessa starts receiving hate mail that is not only threatening her life but also the lives of her loved ones. And dangerous things start happening. But her friend Evelyn is not there to protect her, as she is on a vacation of a lifetime. So someone else steps in, and that person is none other than Julian, who not only wants to protect Tessa at all costs but also wants to have her for himself without realizing it. And there the journey of these two starts. Some with a lot of banter and longing on the way. So get in for a ride of a lifetime and spice, which will make you want more. This is my review. Happy reading!!
Wrecked Guard is a suspenseful romance that balances high stakes with fiery chemistry between the leads. Tessais a PR expert who is juggling a demanding career and her personal responsibilities when she finds her life turned upside down becoming the target of serious threats. Julian is her reluctant yet fiercely protective bodyguard whose teasing banter with Tessa hides deeper feelings.
The relationship dynamic between Tessa and Julian sizzles. Their love-to-hate tension adds drama and angst to their relationship, and the push-and-pull between them kept me hooked. Flashbacks to their past shed light on their complicated history which making the journey toward each other feel authentic and rewarding. The suspense element is well-written with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing. The pacing is solid and the mix of danger, romance, and drama made this a page-turning read. Tessa and Julian’s story is completely filled with passion and heart. It is a fantastic mix of suspense, romance, and emotion.
Tessa, works in PR and is currently working on a large project while balancing life around her from caring for her Mum to prioritising her best friend’s wedding. That is until one day letters start lands on her desk threating her. Julian, bodyguard in charge of keeping Tessa safe after the threats. However, Julian has a great pass time of winding Tessa up in order to see her reaction.
While Tessa life is on the line you really start to see Julian feelings develop which is made better by the flash backs to the past as it allow for the changes between them to be seen. Understand their issues with each other in the present due to the issue both currently and in the past.
Despite the chemistry so clearly between them they can’t help but see how far they can push the other. This adds to the tension between them, until one day they snap and give into the pull they have had towards each other for ages.
"I’m about to meet my girlfriend's mom. I may walk in on something amazing, or I’ll have to put Tessa back together." - Julian
"I deserve things like Julian and his heart." - Tessa
Tessa is in danger and Julian is the bodyguard that is the one to keep her safe, he's also the one that she already knew. This is a hate to love because they had a "situation" a few years ago that didn't end well. He "hates" her so much but makes sure that there always is a prescription inhaler for her.
They both have their own past and trauma. Because of that, they to communicate in order to understand each other and be what the other needs. They are there for each other in the hard and beautiful moments. Tessa her mother has dementia and Tessa carried that on her own for a long time until she opened up to Julian. There were also lots of moments with friends and family. With lots of action!
I received an ARC copy of this book by the author.
*Tropes: -Bodyguard Romance -Enemies to Lovers -One Night Stand -Forced Proximity -FMC in danger
*Spiciness: 3.5 / 5
Wrecked Guard is my first book by Renn Wells and overall it is a fun read. Renn has done a very good job at story telling through her writing and all her characters. The best part of the story for me is the suspense / climax. Tessa's character is smart, confident, talented and hardworking and Julian’s character is caring, protective and calm. It's sweet to read how Julian a burly man, is loving and caring towards his niece and will do anything to keep her happy including going to tea parties. I admire that Tessa is responsible and doesn’t complain about the shitty hand life has dealt her. Tessa and Julian’s characters complement each other and they make a good couple. If you like reading Bodyguard romance books, this might be a good addition to your collection.
This book was a hell of a ride, lots of action, tension & spice. The confidence our MCs Tessa & Julian gain both in themselves & in their relationship was wonderful to experience. This was Enemies to Lovers where the Hate was there only because the Love was. A one night stand years ago leaves them in a constant battle with each other, but when Tessa is faced with threats to her life Julian won’t let anyone else from the team be the one to protect her. The ‘touch her & die’ vibes here are strong!! There are some sensitive themes in this story that really pulled at the heartstrings & made me well up a few times.
This is book 2 in The Code RITE Series and I plan to go back to read Book 1, the story of characters that I have met here. Thank you to the author for sharing an ARC copy with me.
3.5⭐️ rounded up to 4 because I can see the potential the author has! This was a quick suspenseful romance with plenty of spice. Julian and Tessa’s story begins in the first book in this series (they are interconnected standalones but I would recommend reading book 1 first to understand a lot of references!) While I enjoyed watching the love between them grow, it felt like an abrupt change from hating each other to loving each other. It seemed to change within a single chapter. Also, a lot of the suspenseful moments seemed to happen and be done in the blink of an eye. I wish those scenes lasted a bit longer, I feel like it would’ve really added a lot! Although I guessed the twist pretty early on, I was surprised at the reasoning behind it. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will recommend it!! I’m excited to see how this author continues to grow.
✩✩✩✩ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ~ Wrecked Guard is the second book in the Code RITE series by Renn Wells which follows Tessa & Julian ~ After a one night stand years ago tensions are high between Tessa and Julian already, but after being targeted by a cult and put under Julian’s protection can Tessa survive what her heart has always wanted? and can Julian keep pretending the feelings he has towards Tessa are hatred? ~ I loved this story! It is a fast paced read with a lot of intensity, emotion, sincerity and a little betrayal to keep you on your toes. The character building in this was phenomenal 🙌🏻 ~ There was also an incredible light shone on dementia and the feelings and emotions one has when someone close to you is suffering with such an illness. As well as dementia a little light was also pointed at Asthma & both were written about incredibly well and with a lot of care 💕
Time to get to know Julian and Tessa more, I wanted to know more about them from Broken Guard - Book one - and glad that this book gave them their stories to tell.
You can tell that Julian has a soft spot for Tessa when he first saw her as he was helping Evelyn in book one with Marcus but it's nice to get to know them more.
I like how passionate they are together, how the romance builds but his job is to look after and protect Tessa when she gets death threat letters and her club gets targeted but they work well together.
So much happens to the group that it's hard to sum up without spoilers but it's a good read, fast flowing and likeable characters.
I will keep an eye out for more from Renn in the future and would recommend this series.
Love these security/bodyguard men in this series! Tessa we met in book one and receives a threat because of what she does for work and who she represents. Julian works at the security firm and is former military. They had a one night stand a few years ago and then he flips the script and he seems to hate her. They have known each other for years because he is her best friend's fiance's friend. These two just get on each other's nerves and push each other's buttons, even though they have serious chemistry. Now, she is forced to accept his help while they figure out this threat and he keeps her safe. I enjoyed this one. It's a definitely an enemies to lovers/forced proximity romance with the heroine in danger. Julian is top notch book boyfriend! And I love his nicknames for her!
