As our lives were bound up with one another, so too were our sins.

The man I’m falling for turns out to be a contract killer. Liam Stauner: foreign exchange trader, ex-marine . . . and former hitman. And because I witnessed one of his murders, he’s kidnapped me to a remote island near Fiji to make sure I keep quiet. He mistrusts everyone, especially himself. He wants to control his whole world, including me.

Yet for some reason I trust him. And I’m beginning to love living with him on his private, perfect island.

But now that his brother and my best friend have showed up, reality is intruding on our idyllic existence. Liam’s brother Rory is a prosecutor out for Liam’s blood. And my friend Andrea supports Rory’s campaign to bring Liam to justice. To complicate matters, Liam is trying to rescue his sister and niece from the cult that’s held them for twelve long years.

Is my main enemy the outside world—or Liam’s heart, which stubbornly refuses to soften?

My little witness. The woman who submitted to me all night long turns out to be the loose end from my last killing. I never expected this complication, but there she was, knowing my secret. So I took her.

Now she’s mine to enjoy for as long as I like.

My best friend Guy understands, because he’s detained Ingrid’s bestie, Andrea, on my island too. Now she’s his to enjoy for as long as he likes.

Sometimes when I’m with Ingrid, I almost believe in hope. Ingrid Pellerin: interior designer, gifted artist, and compassionate supporter of my sister and niece in their time of struggle.

But never in a million years would I have expected ending up where I am now, arrested for a crime I didn’t commit. I wish I’d shared my feelings with Ingrid sooner—before it was too late.

Was Rory right? Am I about to pay for all my past crimes?

Formerly an academic, I took up writing romance recently and quite by accident. In early 2022 the right elements conjoined—my love of villains, my taste for high comedy, and my pull towards strong women. Now I can’t stop cooking up plots and drawing new characters. Though I write mostly dark romance, I invariably weave plenty of reality into the fantasy. My preference for lone wolves, quirky characters, and intense plot results in what my reader and author friends call romance with teeth. I live in Berkeley, California with my dachshund-Chihuahua, Pooh-bah. When I’m not writing, I love traveling, cooking, playing piano, and cycling in the nearby hills.

This book has it all. Murder, mystery, deception, suspense and lots of spice too.

Liam is ex military, ex hitman turned billionaire with a lot of trauma in his past.
He meets Ingrid when she is stood up by her date in a bar, sparks fly fast and she takes him home.
All is going well until Liam's only loose end from his hitman days comes back to bite him. Faced with a decision he goes all power tripping/ caveman and kidnaps Ingrid, whisking her away to his private island until he knows what to do with her. (Except the obvious of course) 🥵

Ingrid is a creative, artistic adventurous woman and she is typical of the FMC's Kathleen writes, she will submit in areas she wants to, but she is still a force in herself. She pushes back and wants more from Liam than he is willing to give. She aims to slowly break down his barriers and get all of him, not just the parts he is offering.

There is so much more than just the main character's story to this one. The side characters get their own POV's and I just loved Guy (Liam's lawyer/bff) he added a level banter and humor to keep Liam's caveman side in check. Andrea ( Ingrid's bff) is a strong intelligent woman who is not to be crossed.

Add in a spiteful brother looking for revenge, a lost sister & neice, a rescue from a doomsday cult, a murder investigation and another powerful man manipulating the powers that be to get his own way. I don't really know how to sum it all up, other than to say it's just Epic !

I absolutely adore Kathleen as an author; her writing style has become my all-time favorite. I've mentioned this before, and I will keep saying it: she brings every page, every word, and every character to life. Her use of personification is simply brilliant. Tropes that I previously had little interest in come alive and become delightful in her skilled hands. The depth of her characters, the intricacy of the plot, and the palpable tension she creates all deserve a chef’s kiss! Among her characters, my favorite is Ingrid—she is the embodiment of allure. Liam is the "enemies to lovers" character that we all need. Even if they were lovers to enemies then lovers again - still holds. They have issues, they’re not perfect. But I love them.

Kathleen knows how to write an alpha-hole that reveals his softer side for his girl. I loved Liam and Ingrid's chemistry and banter. Their prequel date was hot and steamy. After he took her to his private island, you could feel the love he had for her even though he didn't know how to show it or feel worthy of it. Andrea and Guy were awesome side characters. Their love story was a great addition to the plot. I absolutely loved their banter. The suspense and mystery plotline was good. Liam and Ingrid had some things to work out but they were able to come together.

I really loved this book and there is SO much fun banter between the two main couples. Liam is our main guy, but I really fell for Guy, his debonair best friend. There is a couple twists & a miraculously beautiful HEA. Suffice to say, you will love this book!

It's Ingrid's birthday (our intrepidly sweet, interior designer heroine) & her date picked the restaurant. But now he's delayed by work and she is all alone on her birthday, even though he called the place to have dessert delivered to her table. She embarrassingly sits through the Happy Birthday song by the staff & goes to leave when a "dark, Herculean figure" approaches and sits. Liam (an ex-military merc/hitman, said dark, Herculean figure) proceeds to order for them, charms Ingrid throughout their meal & when walking to his car to drive her home, gives her this exchange:
I: I do like danger--very much
L: How much danger?
I: I haven't had a chance to find out
L: Would you like to find out tonight?

They proceed to have loads of spicy fun until the next morning when he bumps a journal of hers which falls open & discovers she is the witness to a hit he carried out four years prior. Immediately he kidnaps Ingrid, whisks her away to his private island near Fiji. Eventually, he loosens the collar on her after her bestie, Andrea, makes it out to the island. Andrea immediately sparks with Guy, playboy billionaire lawyer bestie of Liam.
Amazing line between Andrea & Guy:
A: You're a unicorn among men
G: Touch my horn and you'll have good luck

This book has many layers which you will have fun navigating & a lot of plot to keep you engaged.
Happy reading! You'll love this one!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Holy. Freaking. Hell. This book ate—left no crumbs, not even a damn breadcrumb for me to breathe.

Liam is that dangerously sexy, emotionally unavailable alphahole that has no business being this hot. Ex-military, ex-hitman, and now a whole damn billionaire with a trauma collection that makes my childhood issues look like a joke. I should’ve hated him, but then the man kidnaps Ingrid after a night of toe-curling spice and I'm like—Sir, take me too.

And Ingrid is a spicy little firecracker. She's artsy, sweet, and yes, she submits—but only when she wants to. The rest of the time, she’s serving sass, pushing buttons, and basically trying to dismantle Liam's entire emotional wall brick by brooding brick. And I was HERE for every second.

Ingrid gets stood up on her birthday, Liam swoops in and the chemistry is so electric I’m surprised the book didn’t combust. One night together turns into Liam going full possessive psycho and dragging her to his secret island like it’s totally normal behavior. And somehow… it worked. It worked SO well.

The romance is morally gray, twisted, feral, and so achingly beautiful. It’s not just about sex (though holy hell the spice?? Liam does NOT play), it’s about healing, boundaries, trust—and pushing every f**king limit until the line between captor and lover completely disappears.

One second I’m clutching my phone, the next I’m screaming into my pillow like “YES GIRL, BREAK THAT MAN DOWN!” and then crying because love can exist in the darkest damn places.

Kathleen really said, “You want an emotional rollercoaster? Buckle the f**k up.”

Crow Feathers, the latest book from Kathleen Haley, was a fantastic read! From the initial meeting between Ingrid and Liam to their new life on an island near Fiji, this book is full of heat & tension. While it is certainly different from Kathleen’s senses series, it has all the traits of dark romance that I’ve come to know and love from Kathleen.

I loved the tropical setting of this book and really feel like it set the stage for the romance between Ingrid and Liam. I also loved the characters of Guy and Andrea and how they served as the sounding boards for their respective friends. Seeing Ingrid and Andrea interact was so important for her growth & comfort, and I’m so glad they’d had each other.

I’ve been reading so much contemporary romance lately, and I loved my trip into dark romance with Crow Feathers! Liam and Ingrid’s story was easy to read, compelling, and full of the spice that Kathleen does so well.

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

“For as long as you’re bound to me, I’m bound to you.”

When Ingrid gets stood up by her date on her birthday, she plans on just leaving until a very handsome, tall stranger takes a seat at her table. “Is this seat taken?” They share a wonderful night together, only to be kidnapped to a remote island by this handsome man the next morning. Liam has a lot of trust issues, and Ingrid knows one of his secrets. To make sure she doesn’t talk about it with anyone, he takes her to his home on a beautiful island. There is more danger lurking around the corner though, and I really enjoyed the mystery behind it all. The story was good, had a nice pace and was very unputdownable.

Liam is one of those alphaholes you just love to hate, Kathleen sure has a way with writing possessive men. 😉 Ingrid knows it’s wrong that she’s being held captive, away from her work, friends and family. But as time passes, she cannot find it in herself to care. She’s a kind soul, and loves easily. Their romance was so wonderfully unconventional, and I loved the message behind it. To love someone as they are, including the character traits that others perceive as something negative. To top that of, we get another romance between side characters that were also very lovable.

Looking forward to see what Kathleen will write next!

what can I say Crow of Feathers omg! Yes please ! Can Liam take me now ?! or Guy ?lol…One thing I love about this books is the details of the characters in this book it gave me so much imagination, I also loved how Liam described in details of the home made me want to remodel my home. But Crow of Feathers is something else because of the raw emotions and struggles, trust issues the reality of some of the struggles and how they handle. I also need a friend like D that knows what up and to stand on her own but tell me how it is.
Kathleen you have done an amazing I absolutely love this Book !!! I need to get a physical copy of this book.

Another great read from Kathleen. There is a whole lot of plot going on and a lot of great s3xual tension and spice. Ingrid has been dating a man named Liam and has found out his secret the hard way. He is a former contract k!ller and ex-military man and she just happened to witness his last k!ll. So he takes her to a private island to make sure she keeps quiet. I enjoyed the attention to detail the author uses, and the complexity of the thoughts and emotions of the characters. This really is an interesting and entertaining book and I highly recommend it.

This was my favorite read by this author. The plot, the plot twists, the 2 main couples, the spice, all of it was well done. I appreciated the banter between the couples and amongst the four of them, it definitely made them relatable and so funny at times.

Kathleen Haley delivered another well-written, detail-rich, dark romance that has you invested in the characters and plot from page one–we witness a hïtmän in action, and experience a whirlwind of extraordinary consequences and quick decisions that lead to intriguing plot twists and unexpected connections.

Liam and Ingrid didn’t know that that fateful night four years ago would have them bound to one another in more ways than they could have ever predicted.

The man Ingrid is falling for? Turns out to be more than the foreign exchange trader and ex-marine…he’s a former contract unaliver, and Ingrid just so happened to have witnessed his last hit. Because Ingrid is Liam’s “little witness,” he’s ladynapped her to his remote, private island near Fiji to ensure that she will keep quiet. While Liam trusts no one, he wants to control everything in his orbit–which includes Ingrid.

While Ingrid should be alarmed at the turn of events, her body has other opinions, and her heart does, too. Ingrid trusts Liam even though he doesn’t trust himself, and she’s beginning to love her life in captivity because she’s his captive.

But…outside forces are threatening to pop the blissful bubble Liam and Ingrid have started to forge. Will Liam be able to trust in the hope he feels in Ingrid’s presence or will his past come back to haunt him and doom his future?

This was a high stakes, adrenaline-fueled read at times, and you felt a whirlwind of emotions as the story unfolded–hope, happiness, frustration, love, resilience, and redemption. I enjoyed the dynamic between Liam and Ingrid, and the development of their relationship. While I liked that both best friends of the MCs, Guy & Andrea, had their own love story unfolding simultaneously, I would’ve liked a bit more focus on just Ingrid & Liam since there were other plot points that also needed attention (Liam’s brother’s involvement, his sister and niece coming to the island after their own dire ordeal, etc.). This will be an enjoyable read for any dark romance lover who enjoys thriller elements woven in!

I had the honor of being an ARC for this book, thank you Kathleen Haley.

Liam was so intense, but charming as well. His determination to keep Ingrid in the dark as to why he saw fit to kidnap her was a twisted, revenge seeking tale. But he didn't think to how it would ultimately be his down fall.

Ingrid, was stubborn and scared but also determined to break Liam. She hated him with passion but loved him more than passionately. She wanted to fight him every step of the way but also accept him for what and who he was.

When they started their journey of twisted hated, love, lust and morally F@#d up. One thing they never thought would happen, was the way they found each other on a different level.

Guy, being Liams lawyer/friend tried hard to hide his affection for Ingrid, which set Liam off on a possessive, controlling streak only to help Liam see his ways were not working is favor to gain Ingrid's trust and loyalty. Ingrid brought out the Demons he was hiding from the world. She saw a different side to him.

When his own brother tried to destroy him, she was the one true treasure that kept him from giving up.

Ingrid, hated lying to her parents and best friend Andrea about where she was, but when Andrea trusted Rory to get to Ingrid, she saw it differently. Ingrid, was as much a victim of circumstances but also so much more alive, full of hope, dreams, love.

The twist in all the characters was a vision that behind all the trauma, hate, vengeance, greed, and murders that something Beautiful, Love inspired hot as hell sex, Sunset and Sunrise beauty of how two very different people can form a bond stronger than anticipated. The bond, between Liam and Ingrid built up slowly, first it was just pure hate, then shields began to break, lust and possession was powerful, control and respect were a fine line, fear and love were blurred, but the strength of trust over shadowed it all.

This was truly a pleasure to read, it kept the excitement of what next and WTAF just happened going. I loved it.

I love the power dynamic working between the characters and their relationships. Powerful men in money and status, matched against women powerful in their independence and morals. The mental warfare between remaining in the status quo of their atrophied emotions and that of free falling into an unknown future guided only by love as its compass. Creating and building a strong foundation of trust is the epicenter of the relationships and the journey to that binding that holds it together or splinters it apart.
This book had my anxiety spiking to astronomical levels as it took unexpected turns forcing the reader to navigate the tumultuous waters of various emotions. The sexual dynamic is intense, the missions are pulse racing, the dangerous situations are nerve-wracking, the trek to the resolution of the climatic event is tense and the family relationships are sobering.
Character self-reflection together with intimate conversations allow the readers to appreciate other perspectives of events and the lasting effects on human psyche and behavior.
True to form, Kathleen does not disappoint. I loved it! This story has the potential to develop into a phenomenal series. Whilst Liam and Ingrid's journey was the focus of this book, I can't wait to read more of Guy and Andrea's journey.

Liam's past is shrouded in hurt and mistrust. Ingrid's, however, is the complete opposite of this. The spice is spicing early on and continues throughout.

Ingrid is instantly wrapped into Liam's orbit when she is stood up on her birthday. They have an instant connection and the sparks fly oh so high. Who knew a one night stand would turn into a kidnapping? Oh right, the former hitman who discovers she was the only witness to a hit...his last.

On his private island, of Verau, they become closer and closer regardless of circumstances. His estranged brother convinces Ingrid's best friend to travel there, and she instantly hits it off with Liam's best friend. From here, we start getting POV from both Andrea and Guy surrounding themselves and happenings around the island.

Ingrid is attacked and her attacker suddenly shows up dead on the island shortly thereafter. All signs point to Liam, but it just can't be....

Hope in to see both relationships bloom and learn the secrets behind betrayals, lies, and all consuming feelings.

If Kathleen writes it, I'm going to devour it. Thanks for having me as part of your team and allowing early access.

Crow Feathers is a dark romance that took me on an unexpected journey. The story begins with Ingrid, who, after being stood up on her birthday, meets Liam—a tall, mysterious stranger. Their connection is immediate, but things take a sharp turn when Liam, a contract killer, discovers Ingrid knows more than she should. He kidnaps her to a secluded island to keep her silent.

What I appreciated was the depth of the characters. Liam is intense and possessive, yet there's a vulnerability to him. Ingrid is strong-willed, navigating her captivity with resilience. Their dynamic is a blend of tension, passion, and unexpected tenderness.

The plot is layered with suspense, mystery, and moments of genuine emotion. There's also a secondary romance between Andrea and Guy that adds warmth to the narrative.

While the premise is dark, the story delves into themes of trust, redemption, and the complexities of love. If you're into intense romances with a touch of danger and emotional depth, this one's worth a read.

Loose ends become new beginnings

Ingrid accidentally witnessed a murder and was warned to keep quiet though the murderer didn't actually see her.

When Ingrid is stood up for dinner on her birthday and a random gorgeous man decided to join her she never saw what came next.

Liam was catching up with a friend when he noticed a beautiful woman who appeared to have been stood up on her birthday and he knew he was going to approach her. What he never expected was discovering the next morning she was also the lose end from his last job.

Liam decides to take Ingrid back to his private island until he can decide what to do about her and what she knows.

This book is filled with murder, mystery, intrigue, a daring rescue, and plenty of spice.

Seeing everyone's story unfold is beautiful. The relationship development is fantastic and the spice is so very hot.

Liam and Ingrid may do everything in their relationship out of order but it truly makes it special.

Liam is a contract killer who was spotted during a job. Years later, he unknowingly spends a night with the witness, Ingrid. To ensure her silence, he kidnaps her and takes her to a remote island.

Ingrid is a bubbly character who is easy to fall in love with. Her unwavering faith in those around her draws people in from the start. On the other hand, Liam is a slightly unhinged and possessive killer who struggles to let go, always needing to control every aspect of his life. It’s sweet to watch how Ingrid’s charming and lively nature captivates Liam.

This is a well-written, spice-filled read. The banter between all the characters flows easily and is often highly amusing. The interactions between Liam and Andrea are particularly entertaining, as they both seem to thrive on winding each other up.

A thourghly enjoyable read, do check the trigger warnings.

What a read this was and Kathleen knows how to write fantastic spicy scenes and has the ability to nail down the perfect alphahole. The banter back and forth between Liam and Ingrid is perfection. I mean Ingrid knows how to push Liam's buttons just enough to get what she wants. I mean Liam kidnapping Ingrid and taking her to his private island probably wasn't the ideal way to win over her heart. I mean what is a guy to do when this girl he has become obsessed with witnessed something he did...something that was bad. Also, the side characters give the book that extra something that you didn't know you needed. From the banter to the spicy spicy scenes to the twists and turns, this book is totally worth reading.

One of my all time favorites of this amazing author. This story has it all. Love, suspense, and page turning action. Imagine being whisked away to a private island as a prisioner. Being kept with no choice or chance for escape. An island with dangers of pirates and unseen enemies who want you dead. Can Ingrids Captor keep her safe? Or will it be to late by the time his presence and motives are known? Will Liam and Ingrid have a happy ending and cement their love forever? Grab your copy and find out. Very well written with good character build. Kept me interested to the end. With tense moments and erotic pleasures I really enjoyed this book

What a ride. Liam, Liam. Like I thought you were ok at the start, bit cocky for sure but can someone tell me why we love it when the bad boy turns to a big softie for the woman he loves?! Liam also has a plethora of nicknames for Ingrid that has you kicking your feet. Spice was great, hit me smack bam in the face from the start but for the story it made sense. A great easy read with an extremely satisfying end and conclusion. Love conquers all right?

Once again, Kathleen's writing just amazes me. Her books (including this one) grab my attention from the start. Then I have a very hard time putting it down to do other adult responsibilities. Which leaves me reading late into the night (SO WORTH IT)! I don't want to spoil this book for anyone but Liam and Ingrid are well developed characters that draw you right into their story. The suspense holds you at the edge of your seat. Truly an amazing author and I can't wait to read MORE!

Life is serious, have fun reading

The book starts out with a nail scene, then skip forward time and you get to know the characters and how they all connect, think the movie Crash but with a happier ending, cause duh that's why we romance. For the happy endings. All sorts of crazy things happen in this book that make you keep reading to see how it reaches that sought after ending, love.

While I enjoyed the book and the writing, it was to many pov's for me. If you don't mind the different pov's then I have no doubt you'll love this book. I personally didn't feel the need for the side characters to have pov. Overall it's still incredibly well written. Oh and the 🌶️🌶️🌶️, 🥵🥵, as always!

Crow Feathers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

Crow Feathers is the kind of book that grips your heart and doesn’t let go. From the first chapter, I was completely immersed in a world so vivid and haunting that it felt like I was living every moment alongside the protagonist. High stakes, high adrenaline and I will allow myself to be kidnapped to an island hehe. Liam, call me 📞

The story is a whirlwind of emotions—hope, despair, love, and redemption—all written with such raw intensity that I found myself breathless at times. The protagonists had struggles and triumphs felt deeply personal, and Haley’s ability to tap into universal feelings of longing and resilience is nothing short of extraordinary. The story is of Liam and Ingrid’s but we also meet Guy and Andrea- who have their own love story unfolding.

I was completely wrapped up in the fate of the characters, even the antagonist. The author really does take you in for a head spinning ride. The ending was perfect and I am filled with hope for more of these characters.

Liam is different from her other heroes. I will let an excerpt from the book do the talking:

“You can’t trust anyone, Ingrid.”
“I trusted you.” Her tone was mild, but her eyes flashed.
“That’s different,” I snapped.
“If anything, it was worse.”
I groaned. “Look, Ingrid, I don’t want to change your nature. But I can’t change who I am either. I’m protective, possessive, and distrustful.”
“Well, if I can love who you are, why can’t you love who I am?” She blushed, her hand flying to her mouth.
