Loved the duet but good lord emry got on my ever lasting nerves. I had to go back to the reviews a couple times to see if anybody else was irritated at her and was shocked to not see many. The book itself was great. There were twists that were shocking, steamy scenes that were yummy if not a little much in weird situations. Then there were the characters and their development. The catch for me was emry. Both books made a big deal of her being mother theresa and that everything she does is for her daughter. But then she leaves her with strange women for some inconsequential reason to stalk adrik and putting herself and her daughters safety at risk. And that want even the first damn time! Just one of the many times emry butted into shit she shouldn't have instead of trying to be there for her daughter she was going places and leaving her with people she barely knew?! Nope. Hard no for me. It just bothered me because I don't leave my son with nobody except family and even then for mainly important shit and I'm not even in the middle of a mob war! Smh. Besides her everything was fabulous.
Again, I enjoyed the storyline and especially loved the "twist" near the 75% mark. It was great. Adrik was slightly more redeeming in this book as you could tell through a lot of his actions that he truly cared about Emery and Isabella. It would have also been 4 stars. Emery, however, was even more annoying in this book if that is even possible. Perhaps it was a carry over from the first book, but her continually putting herself in harms way simply to be defiant and not listen to Adrik (despite knowing he was doing what he was doing to protect her). It was even more annoying after we learned about something that her doing this even more stupid and not just for herself. Adrik had to continually stop what he was doing to explain things to Emery, even though there was not time for the tantrums. Emery's supposed love of her daughter did not improve either. She continually put her daughter in harms way. She constantly doubted what her daughter could do, despite getting mad when others did the same. Continued to talk about Isabella was disabled. There was even part where she openly said she didn't want to entertain her daughter, as if Isabella was a burden. Let's not forget when she left her disabled daughter (lest we forget, as Emery reminds the reader constantly) with a cleaning service crew that she had never met before in a home that didn't even belong to Adrik and didn't have security. And this great choice was while Isabella was sleeping and even more defenseless. 😡

Brilliant end to this mini Mafia Romance series, the family unit has lots to contend with. A war within the Mafia . A Brother who has a lot to answer for, a dying father. Plus lots more. Wonderful read
At the end of book 1, I had to admit that I didn’t know whether I liked Adrik Tasarov and as much as I liked Emery I wasn’t sure if I was going to like where this story was heading. However, now I’ve read book two… I am so glad I continued.
Book one ended on a cliffhanger but book two had more than a few ‘what the heck’ moments that leave the reader reeling. There are some really significant twists from book one that certainly make you question what you thought you knew. There are also some revelations and subsequent retributions that most definitely challenge your moral beliefs.
I hoped that in book two I would learn to like Adrik Tasarov more. I mean beyond the gorgeous looks, the amazing physique and the dominant bedroom persona, Adrik is a difficult man to love. At times he’s bordering on being a grumpy, arrogant, overbearing tyrant but at other times, particularly with his adopted daughter Isabella, he is sweet, caring, kind and considerate. It messes with your head quite a lot… the constant mood swings and personality shifts.
But all that being said, by the end of the book and particularly in the epilogues, I’ve grown to love him. His heart is loyal… often to a fault… but when that loyalty is tested and strained the question is, will his new family or the Bratva take priority?
Emery is definitely changing her approach during book two and she develops a better understanding of what is expected not only of Adrik but of herself. That doesn’t mean that she no longer challenges or calls Adrik out on his cruel behaviour and moody outbursts but she’s learning to tolerate his ways and instead of butting heads, she supports him and becomes more like the Bratva wife that she has taken the role of.
There is a lot to love about this book… particularly the plot twists and the storyline that constantly keeps you guessing what is going to come at them both next.
There were moments when I honestly had to swallow down the lump in my throat or gnaw at my lip with worry for these two fantastic characters. Parts had my stomach churning and wondering just how much more can they possibly take? Other chapter had me laughing out loud and snickering - particularly with Stefan! I absolutely adore his character. He’s the comic relief within a deliciously dark and desperate situation, but he’s also the kind of devoted, loving and caring person that makes you want to snuggle up to him. He might be the Bratva bosses second in command, but he’s easy to love. He needs his own story! He’s seriously that awesome.
So all-in-all, I loved this series. Yes, book one had me questioning whether I could take Adrik into my heart enough to want to see his relationship with Emery flourish, but this book definitely turned my feelings for him around and now… I am converted. Could I personally put up with a man like Adrik… probably not… Stefan would be my go to… but he ends up becoming the man Emery and Isabella need him to be.
Great series. And definitely looking forward to reading more of Naomi’s work.
Emery talked through two books and never made any sense. She threw temper tantrums like a child and never listened. Made terrible decisions, including leaving crippled daughter with two cleaning women she had never met. Book was just bickering between main characters interspersed with sex scenes interrupted by phone calls. Repetitive, frustrating and boring.
Don't read this series!!!! These people are horrible. You never feel the connection between the H and h. It all seemed forced. Hell I was wishing this book to end. It's like they had no emotions. They were just going through the actions.
AS I shared in Book 1 review ...Author or editor need to check references because they refer to Adrik as the don yet he is Russian so he should be a Pakhan.- a don is Italian mafia... Russian. Is PAKHAN.....
Book 2 .....Adrik goes through a lot of emotions after he finds out who the father of his wife’s six year old daughter. Adrik has to deal with not only his thoughts and desires but those of his brothers deceit and backstabbing. A person from his past comes back from the dead (or so he thought they were dead). Adrik comes to find that His brother and his former Love are working to bring him down A lot of drama in this book .... his father passes away. Emery becomes a very special wife, and her daughter Isabella has been accepted as His flesh and Blood. Definitely about all the difficulties they face and all the drama dealing with enemies and dealing with mafia stuff. Learning how to be a family man from a marriage that started off as a business deal. AGAIN I Liked it but I didn't love it...
It started with a fake marriage and then it gets crazy
Midnight Lies is the second book in the Tasarov Bratva duet and continues the story of Emery and Adrik. I had enjoyed the first book, Midnight Oath, and the story held my attention. So I was expecting the same with this book and for the most part it did, but then at times I just closed it down and put it away for a day as I could not take some of the story-line or the characters. For me this second book was okay but not what I was expecting, and that disappointed me. Overall it was an okay read.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own so take them for what they are worth....not a lot in some cases. I know that some readers will absolutely love this book. What I would say is that if you are a fan of Naomi West and read the first book then pick this one up and read it for yourself, making up your own mind about it. After all we all have different opinions and that is what makes life so interesting at times.
So the 2nd instalment didn't get any better. There were so many threads of the plot with everyone being connected in some way to Adrik or Emery and none of these threads were developed or followed through completely. The whole book is clunky and awkward, with so many inconsistent details, ie. the car is sabotaged Adrik carries Isabella to the Lodge as the wheelchair can't be pushed so is left behind. Next thing we know she's in a wheelchair exploring the lodge, it takes an awful long time for Emery to remember her father was murdered by Senator Malcolm Waters, and the senator is barely mentioned again, although wouldn't the police be looking for someone so prominent who suddenly vanishes and has known connections with Mafia? The whole Yasha plot is a step too far and doesn't really complete satisfactory. Why is there a brunet on the front cover when Emery is mentioned countless times as a blond with wavy hair. I could go on, but in summary, details matter and this is a hash of a book with too many plots that never come to fruition.
Between the Volandris and Yasha, this was read like a drama filled, nightmarish soap opera!
Emery's behavior was a little better, at least so I no longer abhor her, while Adrik's worth and hotness went up 200%. Good, confusing, convoluted plotlines that was made almost ridiculous by the intense shadiness of Yasha's drama. How does a brother get to that point, where he screws his older brother over? Three stars - if anything, It was exciting.
The main character aka emery was WAY to annoying that girl need to mature af. Literally could not finish the book because she was that annoying. She acted like a little child and barely took cared of her child. That why i dont read book that the women has a child as less it well written. Adrik had a development, though he explained everything to emery.
DNF. There were too many inconsistencies in book one and brought into book two. I was rolling my eyes so much by 20% that I couldn’t find it in me to continue wasting my time.
Well FMC didn’t get any better in this one. She is annoying. I liked there was no 5 years later bullshit but geez could we at least make her a worthwhile character.
I honestly didn't think I could hate Emery more than I already did, but I guess anything is possible. I swear this book was like living in a dream, where the characters just did the same thing over and over again.
Emery would do/say/think something stupid, Amrik would make her say that he would take care of her, they would have sex, Adrik would shut himself off again... and then they did it all over again.
I had a lot of negative thoughts regarding this book, which is probably obvious, but I will say that it got slightly better around the 75% mark.
Now to all the things that I hated: 1) Emery and Adrik seem more like sex addicts than an actual couple. They have zero chemistry whatsoever.
2) Emery's character was made FAR too naive/stupid. The fact that she didn't think the cops would arrest Aderik for killing someone, simply because that someone was "a bad guy" was laughable. It sounded like something a child would say.
And then she ran into danger simply to prove that she could and then doubled down when her stupidity was pointed out to her. It was infuriating.
Honestly, I struggled to break this open after the ending of the first part of the duet. I was not...and still am not...all that enamored with Emery. However, I did want to see what would happen after the bombshell about Yasha, and Emery's kidnapping. Thankfully, I opened this baby up and started reading.
As I said previously, I am not all that happy with Emery. Throughout the entire duet, she's been an argumentative, whiney, ungrateful, naive pain in the ass. She always had to be right, or know what was going on, or have the last word. She never gave Adrik the benefit of the doubt, even after all the shit he did for her.
Now, Adrik was an interesting character. A straight up sociopath. His ability to remain calm no matter what was happening was fascinating--especially when the woman he was giving so much to was being a maleficent bitch. He was cool, cold, collected, and sexy as hell.
The plot was beautifully woven into a tapestry of pain, anguish, victory, violence, and triumph--interspersed with hawt sex, filthy words, and heartwarming moments with little miss Isabella.
This book kept me glued to my seat, even when the sun started rising.
Well done, Ms. West. A truly incredible love story.

Pretty sure I need to add the rest of Naomi West’s books to my backlog because her stuff is just that good. Book two of the Tasarov Bratva Duet picked up right where book one stopped, with Adrik at a standoff in his own home and Emery running for her life from Pietro Volandri. After being locked up in Adrik’s dungeon for running away from him…NBD. Adrik goes to save Emery and they move to a safe house with Isabella in tow, Emery choosing to stick with Adrik for the time being. She eventually reveals to him that his brother raped her and he realizes that’s why she had such a strong reaction him and bolted, not because she’s some sort of spy. Adrik vows to avenge her and kill his brother which also starts a pretty big Bratva war and is basically the pinnacle for all of the action in the book.
Like in book 1, Adrik is still the quintessential anti-hero and Emery still calls him on all of his BS. Their banter is fairly epic, and Stefan adds some awesome comedic relief. (Hint hint, please give him his own series!). The rest of the book is action packed, includes lots of spice (like a lot) and basically keeps you saying “just one more chapter” until you say “okay might as well just finish” at 2am. I literally can’t wait to see what she brings us next!.

Midnight lies (Tasarov Bratva Book 2) By: Naomi West is the ending book and I have got to say I really enjoyed this book. My favorite out of the two books. Naomi can really write a mafia romance. It left on from the ending of the first one. Adrik goes through a lot after he finds out who is the father of his wife’s six year old. Adrik also has to deal with his brothers deceit and backstabbing. A person from his past comes back from the dead (or so he thought they were dead). A lot of drama with being a Don seeing his father passed away. The slow burn too r his wife he has. Emery has turned into his one and her daughter Isabella. Definitely read it and read about all the turns and difficulties they face and all the drama their is with dealing with enemies and dealing with mafia stuff. Learning how to be a family from a marriage that started off as a business deal, see how they just deal with all the issues that come their way. The sexy scenes are hot as heck! You won’t wanna stop reading once you start. 5 out 5 ⭐️ and 5 out of 5 🌶! Get your copy today! #mafiaromancenovels #emeryandadrik #darkromancereads #naomiwest
How did Adrik go from "if you leave you can't take Isabella with you." To "Those two are my world" all within a few paragraphs. He was only slightly better in this book. Still was an huge a-hole. Emery is one of the worst FMCs. She so annoying and stupid. Why would you leave your child with strangers to follow Adrik knowing that you are being hunted. It could have easily been a trick and then there goes your kid. Also letting someone who you are almost certain has bad intentions walk you home because they insisted is crazy. Idc if they were on their hands and knees begging me. If I felt weird about them AND I had my kid, there is no way that they would be able to insist on walking me anywhere.
I think they were way too lienent to Adriks brother. At the end where Emery is trying to get Adrik to forgive him and she's saying all these things to defend him is crazy. Idc if its his brother he tried to have Adrik killed, tried to betray him and side with his enemies, 🍇ed Emery, and tried to attack her before she could tell Adrik. But some how still Adrik was willing to let him go as long as he never saw him again.

Before I wrote this review I had to continue and once I finish that I had to read the bonus book and let me tell you it’s way worth the wait reading all them at once I was hocked and I mean hocked I could put these books down where I loss sleep and always got hungry but I still read through it because these books where definitely a must a read but I have one negative on these books I felt like he wasn’t a true mafia person that made me feel intimidated just reading about him and honestly I think he was a bit too harsh to her in my opinion but hey it might go that way in real life with the mafia or Bratva you never know what to expect only when you least expect it and to me that’s when they come but honestly out of all the mafia books I read this was good but definitely not my favorite I will say this is my third favorite series out of all the mafia books I read so far and I only read three and I loved them all. P.s. I love that there was two books in this series because this would have been long and confusing in my option if it was just one.
BookTok ladies, are you okay? Why are these books so highly rated/recommended? I wish I could DNF books, but unfortunately for me my brain can’t handle not following through with a story once I have started reading it. Ugh! This could’ve been an email… or at least 350 pages shorter. The most unlikable main characters, and ridiculous plot points. I hoped the female protagonist would grow a spine and leave a clearly abusive relationships, choose herself and her children but I guess sex with an abuser is more important. Skip both books and save yourself from wasting time reading them. The author tried with all the trending “alpha”, possessive disguised as protective male character, mafioso, “love story”, doormat female protagonist tropes. It failed spectacularly, and it has a one star because someone wasted their time writing it and securing a publisher.
This book was a really good ending to book one. Still really action packed and fun throughout. The steam stayed hot and heavy and the story line exciting. I read this one in about a day as well. Same gripe with this one though. Literally throughout the entire book the H was a giant douchebag to the h. He belittled her, talked down to her and never once was made to grovel for how he treated her, NOT ONCE! So yeah, that lost an entire star for me, made me feel like the author doesn’t like women which does happen sometimes! This was my 3rd book by Naomi but still not clicking the follow button. I just can’t back stories like these. Not saying never follow, just not now. I will probably revisit this author in another year or so after I forget again what it was that turned me off like I did this time.
this was a solid 3 star read had a lot of things I enjoyed and a lot of things I didn't.
Truthfully at one point emery started grinding my gears. Adrik wasn't giving me the romantic vibes I need until the VERY end and that just made it fall flat for me.
However the plot twists & turns this book had was good & suspenseful it had lots of potential to be rated higher but some things just felt short for me!
Also can someone please confirm for me 😭 since I refuse to believe Google translate but is the "term of endearment" he's calling her throughout the book really pussy?
Lmao because I really couldn't stop laughing at that once I saw it on Google translate.
I was looking forward to book 2 and I liked the action, suspense and adventure Emery and Adrik went through as they ran from various evils. Adrik as a caring protector was one of my favorite characterizations in the story.
But..I got frustrated with Emery making a battle out of every decision. She never let up and was often shown Adrik had everything under control. She put herself and her family in more danger by ignoring Adrik’s instructions at critical times. This happens a lot in books like this, but the heroine usually develops some degree of trust and starts being more of a help than a hindrance. In this book, I was more than half way through the second book and she was still arguing with him and putting them both in jeopardy.

I absolutely loved this book, it's the continuation from book one and book two is just as good. The characters were unique and the extra characters just added to the story with the action, suspense, violence, murder, torture, kidnapping, enemies, anger, betrayal, lies, jealousy, twist and turns plus so much more goings-on. This was the story with Adrik and Emery and so much more with these characters with the extended epilogue. I have been hooked on this story right from the start, I just wished there was more with this family.

Midnight Lies by Naomi West is the final book of the Tasarov Bratva Duet. It’s the story of Adrik and Isabella. There’s sooooooo much story in this incredible read!!! Isabella is in deadly danger and Adrik will do anything to protect her….but, is this enough? And, she had a HUGE secret!!!
Hugely entertaining, thrilling story!!! The back story continues to amaze!!!!!!! The romance is a constant give and take and danger lurks everywhere!!!!!! Everything comes to fruition in a mindboggling ending!!!!! Excellent read!!!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I felt intrigued to read this book because I had to know what happened. And a lot happened. There was suspense, lots of violence, angst and passion. There were also inconsistencies that were bothersome. The name of Rasha's wife changed from Veronika to Viktoria and back again. Also, Emery was described previously as having long blonde hair but on the cover, the woman has dark hair. Emery's behavior was inconsistent with her character at times. She had always been so protective of Isabella and she leaves her disabled child with maids she doesn't know. Even with these concerns, it is an enjoyable series.
Book 2 was just a gripping as book 1. Emery and Adriks story continues to be more intense and filled with Drama.
I still find Adriks attitude to be a little overpowering and bordering on emotional abuse with Emery but you can feel the love under the bravada of it all. You can see the love and the caring from him but his attitude towards her at times can leave you feeling angry and confused
I was very happy to see this story had a happy ever after ending
I would recommend this series as it was definitely enjoyable but not one for the faint hearted. If you enjoy Mafia books then head to Amazon and buy/download this series
