Well, technically, I've been dead 470 of those years.
I'm bored as hell.
I never wanted this life. I was turned into a vampire against my will and forced to kill alongside the one who sired me. I've lived with my guilt for too long.
I'm ready to face the sun.
Then I meet a man, a human. He's sunshine and smiles. I hate it. It's annoying... but adorable.
Could he be my reason to continue living?
Teddy My life is over.
After receiving devastating news, I go out drinking with my friends to numb it all.
That's when I meet a woman. She's my complete dark, dangerous... beautiful.
I need her.
She takes me back to her place, and the sex is amazing, the best I've ever had. Then I find out she's a vampire.
Immortal.
She's the answer I've been looking for.
Now... how do I convince her to turn me?

My thoughts while reading: 🚨ALERT SPOILERS AHEAD🚨
“I don’t care if this woman is a cold-blooded killer; I’d gladly let her take me home and murder me.” Lol me
Black cat x golden retriever will alwayssssssss do it for me every time I love a snarky fem character and a sweet masc character bc it reminds me of me and my gf lol
“She fists my shirt and brings me flush against her body. She’s the one who kisses me.” Okaaaaay Millie yes!!!
“Don’t get me wrong, I love it rough. But sometimes I want to be held like I’m about to break. As if I’m not a cold-blooded killer who’s drained the life out of hundreds of people.” I mean hey don’t we all babes
Yes yes yes dominant cinnamon rollllllll
“Undress and crawl to me,” he orders.” Oh shiiiiittttt
“Um…” Teddy says, standing in the foyer near the penthouse entrance where he definitely heard what we were talking about. “Vampires? Blood lust?” “Shit,” I say. “Shit,” Layla echoes.” Shit
Fated mates 🥰🥰🥰🥰
“A vow for the vamp, offering my soul.” Title!! I always get excited when I see the title in the casual convo of the characters lol
“My vampy babe loves it rough.” Scream this made me giggle 🥰
Layla & Vara??? 👀👀👀👀
Oh shit Henry!!!
“That’s what I thought,” the shifter says. “The vampire queen has a blood mate.” !!!!!!
“I want you to turn me for you, not just for me. Because you deserve love too. You lived all these years thinking you’re a monster, but a monster wouldn’t feel remorse for the lives it’s taken. A monster wouldn’t feel compassion. And a monster wouldn’t put their life on the line to protect someone else. “But turn me because you want this too. Make me a vampire so you will no longer be alone. I don’t want you to ever feel as if you don’t deserve to be happy.” 😭😭😭😭😭
“Why wait that long when the gang’s all here?” I GASPED OUT LOUD
“It’s simple. You fuck. You come together. You drink from each other.” “Sounds similar to how the gargoyles accept their fated mate bond,” Layla snorts. - oh really nowww?
this was everything i hoped for and more! i absolutely adored teddy and millie.
first of all, millie is that BITCHHH. a plus sized vampy baddie who fully knows what she wants and takes it. she could be my queen too if she’d like.
teddy IS puppy. hes the most pure golden retriever mmc and i love every second of it. he is so goofy and happy despite his struggles.
this book is very instalust but that is to be expected from a novella so i don’t think much of it. that being said, we were feddddd the sexiest scenes. the spice was 10/10 out of this world. they were so sexually compatible and it was HOT. on top of that, the sexually fluid nature? i love them.
to top everything off, as someone who was raised on all music, the references in this book had me giggling. it was so much fun!
A Vow for the Vamp is a novella centering on a 500 year old female vampire living in the city. After 500 years in this world, she’s tired of what she is and living with what she’s done and she’s begun making plans to face the sun. This may be a heavy theme for some so definitely check the trigger warnings before you dive in. Millie meets Theodore by chance on the evening she’s making her preparations to depart and quickly realizes he’s not the typical one night stand. The short length makes the story move fast but it never felt rushed to me. Settle Myer has a wonderful, conversational flow to her writing and manages to flush out and develop these two characters so well in so few pages. The spice?! Insane. Honestly, really hot. The FMC is such a body positive plus sized rep and the FMC adores every part of her. Being there for the ride as these characters claim and truly save each other was so satisfying, I read this book in one day. Check this out if you want fated mates, plus size rep, Dom/sub, bisexual FMC and MMC and ultimately a sweet HEA.
Attended “Flirty in Tennessee” where I zoned on this book the second I walked into the vendor space.
The society of vampires in this book remind me a bit of True Blood, except still ‘in the coffin’. Thats fine though, because I clearly enjoy True Blood enough. Millie, our main vampire protagonist being the Vampire Queen of New York City, since the major cities are what have Kings/Queens in this society.
The lore in general was thought out and explained well, especially for a shorter novella. It didn’t feel info-dumped on the reader (which can sometimes happen in a shorter read) but instead just explained when relevant.
Millie’s background is covered a bit in the story, but I especially love the inclusion of having her be from a time where her weight wasn’t a big deal nor does it ever become a negative to her. It’s so refreshingly happy reading from the point of view of a fat character who knows she’s hot.
Plus who doesn’t love a Golden Retriever Boyfriend + Black Cat Girlfriend™️ combo?

I received an ARC of A Vow for the Vamp. I was worried like other novellas I have read the plot would seem rushed or nonexistent. NOPE. Settle Myer did such a great job giving us a fully developed story in less than 200 pages. The plot was 100% there. The pacing was perfect. I had such a good time reading this book.
Millie is tired. Five hundred years of learning, listening and not loving has wearied her. Leaving a bar after a quick feed and a quick f*** she hits a man in the face with the door, and from there things get stranger. A fun romance with a strong female primary protagonist. She and Teddy are perfect for each other and the sex is terrific. Really enjoyed it.
A Vow For the Vamp is such a great novella because the female main character is the vampire. It's nice for a change to have the vampire be a woman.
Millie is a strong and voluptuous woman who doesn't put up with crap. She was changed 500 years ago by a vampire named Henry. “How could anyone be afraid of a man named Henry?”
Teddy is the main male character who is a golden retriever, most of the time 😉.
Millie accidentally meets Teddy one night leaving a bar. (Such a great pickup situation).
Millie and Teddy find each other just when they needed a reason to keep going. Is it Fate?
So does a one night stand lead to anything more? You need to read this novella to see what develops.
There's definitely swoon moments, and several "oh no" moments. Some I wasn't expecting.
I admire Settle Myers' writing style for its authenticity, clarity, and conciseness. Settle provides just the right amount of detail to keep the reader engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
I love how Millie and Teddy’s story wasn’t rushed or lacking in substance.
I'm hoping this is not the end of their story because I feel like there's so much more.
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Please check the beginning of the book for TW)
My favorite quotes:
"This is what I get for wanting to get high tonight. Alcohol . . . don’t do . . .for me, but drinking the blood of someone who’s intoxicated or stoned does."
"If I let Ana remember tonight, she might go around bragging about her bathroom hookup with a plus- size vamp with the midnight hair and silver and black eyes."
" I’ve never smelled blood so delicious."
“Tell me your name.” His voice is rough, full of demand, . . . "
“Has anyone ever called you Milli Vanilli?”
I’m a vampire queen with a human lover, and they want to know what makes you special.”
"I don’t want you to ever feel as if you don’t deserve to be happy.”
This book fully delivers on the grumpy/sunshine, instalust, and other promised tropes. There are several heavy topics (read the author’s note), but they’re all handled fairly well, considering the limited length of novellas.
In such short stories, the sex scenes tend to feel gratuitous and included at the expense of the plot, but Myer succeeds in making them all extremely satisfying and feel important. She is able to create a fascinating paranormal world within a contemporary time period, and leaves the door open to numerous future stories with all the various monster breeds she includes.
Also loved the fat rep to pieces. A vampire who isn’t ashamed to have been immortalized with a fat body? Thrilling! A love interest who enjoys and appreciates her fat body? Spectacular! Not a single derogatory, fatphobic comment? Ecstatic!
Overall, a very fun and horny read, and I look forward to more from the series!
***Special thanks to the author for providing an ARC***
I really enjoyed this book. It is very fast moving with an instalove connection, which may not be for everyone, but I loved it! There is spice very early on and consistently - which I enjoyed immensely. Millie is my girl! I love that she is confident in herself but still develops throughout this story. Teddy is the perfect golden retriever love interest and brings lightness and joy to the tale. I want to hear more about Layla and this world. This is a short, sweet and spicy vampire story that I highly recommend!
Two lost souls who find each other when they needed something to help them to continue on living. So romantic ♥️
I don’t think I’ve read a book where the vampire was plus-size and we definitely need more of that!
Millie is a 500 year old vampire (not by choice) who is completely over life and then she literally slams into Teddy and the magic happens. Oh sweet Teddy, just a big ol slightly charred cinnamon roll. I loved everything about these two. I NEED more characters like them in books. And when they get together…HOT DAMN. I adored this book. I NEED more of their world.
A sweet and spicy paranormal romance. The FMC is a vampire queen that’s looking for a way out her immortal doom. The MMC is a sweet golden retriever of a guy that is trying to live everyday Iike it’s his last. These two together are HOT and will have you fanning yourself! You’ll be rooting for these two from the start… and hoping that they’re two pieces of the same puzzle!
Golden retriever boyfriend + black cat girlfriend is the perfect combo and you can’t convince me otherwise. I enjoyed this book so much! Millie’s a 500 year old vampire who’s ready to end her life until she meets Teddy, a 29 year old guy she meets at a bar and isnt able to compel. Although this was short, it still felt like a full length book! Settle Meyer had both plot and a lot of spice 🌶️ Some other things I loved was the plus size rep (she’s plus size, he’s described as having a dad bod) AND they’re both bisexual!!
I haven’t read a book all year but this one looked too good to not buy and read. I read it in a single sitting in one afternoon. It was so fun and spicy! Can’t wait to read more from this author.
A Vow for the Vamp was a fun and fast read! I love that the Vamp was a plus size female character. Looking forward to reading more Manhattan Monsters books.
Settle Myer writes excellent spice and this is no exception. I was so drawn in to the plot too. This was a fun journey with delightful characters and deliciously spicy scenes!
A quick and easy read with a great balance of plot and spice. I absolutely love the big body representation and how bad a$$ the MFC is. The main MMC had me giggling and wishing he was mine. He's the perfect amount of golden retriever energy with a kinky side that had me clutching my pearls. I really hope we get more of this world and stories of some of the side characters.
🩸 A Vow for the Vamp by Settle Myer 🩸 ✨eARC Review✨
A short and sexy novella about a vamp babe and her golden retriever human hunk? Yes. Please.
I devoured (intended word choice!) this read in one day. It’s short but compelling as hell. Even if this book was another few hundred pages, I probably would have read it so quickly. It’s consuming and engaging, and dare I say, easy to be obsessed with.
Millie is a bad ass vampy babe, and what we have with her is solid representation of a curvylicious woman who is in charge. Teddy is a burnt cinnamon roll and OMG his dominance — unbelievably hot.
What I loved about this story is the modern day setting and acceptance of all supernatural beings being among humanity. I love the idea of this being true, and the folk lore woven into reality with assembly and reason was such a nice, well thought touch on Settle’s part. I’m excited this is the first in an entire series, and I can’t wait to read more.
Would recommend for all my supernatural loving readers! Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 (it’s hot and heavy and well balanced!)
💕 Special thank you to Settle for allowing me the honor to eARC read this beauty for you! 💕
Millie has been alive for 500 years and, frankly, she's over it. She's guilt-ridden, bored, and exhausted with her prolonged existence. Teddy has just received life-altering (or ending) news and is looking to drink his cares away when Millie smashes his nose with the bar door on her way out. Deciding to patch him up and have one last night on Earth, Millie takes Teddy back to her place.
These two have hot, kinky sex...repeatedly. And I'm here for it. I love a dirty talking golden retriever hero. She even nicknames him 'Puppy'. Teddy learns who Millie is and finds she might be the answer to all of his problems. Millie hesitates to turn Teddy because of her own traumatic past. She also fears the blood mate bond. That's right, these two are a mated pair!
Myer did SUCH a great job of world building without drowning us in details. She always writes such raw, compelling stories and the fact that she was able to do that here, while building a new world, all within the length of a novella is a feat! I'm hoping this world continues, particularly hoping Layla and the gargoyle she's forced to work with are next.
The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Loved how cute and sweet this book was. I feel like it was the perfect length and explained all the lore in such a succinct way with all the smutty parts there were lol. Would totally reread and can't wait for the next one that comes out next year.
A beautifully crafted story of two lost beings finding each other through fate and forging a path to their own version of a happy ever after.
Millie, a vampire burdened by centuries of guilt and a desire for an end to her eternal existence, finds herself reluctantly drawn to Teddy, a human in the throes of heartbreak and self-destruction. When their paths cross during a night of revelry, their intense connection leads to a passionate affair. As Teddy learns of Millie’s vampiric nature, he becomes determined to join her in immortality, hoping she might be the key to his salvation. Amidst their fast-burning romance and supernatural twists, they must navigate their own desires and dilemmas. This novella, the first in a series of interconnected supernatural standalones, promises fated mates, instant attraction, and a satisfying happily ever after.
At its heart, the story is a testament to the power of connection and self-acceptance. Millie, a character who embodies confidence and body positivity, is a refreshing portrayal of a curvy woman who is unapologetically herself. After all, history and art loved curvy women.
Millie and Teddy’s dynamic are totally opposites that blend together perfectly. He is the puppy to her dominating queen, until they hit the bedroom. This novella is one hundred percent open door spice, and there’s plenty of it. What was originally just a one-night stand, turns into hot, dominating, and bloody sex used to cope and deepen their connection, no matter who may be in the room. There’s a variety of smutty scenes, offering something for all readers.
Rather than the usual chaotic and often violent portrayal of supernatural beings, this novel presents a world where the supernatural are governed by local councils and rulers. This structure offers a fresh perspective, portraying supernatural beings as entities striving for peaceful coexistence and recognition from humans. The dynamic between supernatural and human relationships is depicted as a nuanced blend of friendship and limited resource, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
Overall, this is a captivating read that combines a unique supernatural world with a heartfelt romance. Millie’s body positivity, the fresh take on supernatural governance, and the intense, open-door spice all contribute to a memorable story.
Millie is a vampire who has walked the earth for five centuries, and this immortal life has become tiresome. She is also plagued by the guilt of having to commit atrocious acts because of the vampire who sired her. In a word, Millie is bored.
Teddy is a young man with the energy of a golden retriever puppy. Despite a difficult childhood, he has decided to see the glass as full and enjoy life. In other words, he's Millie's polar opposite.
And yet, when Millie accidentally slams a door in his face, it's a case of instalust between these two characters. They don't know how to define the attraction they feel, but the feeling is undeniable.
This novella was at once funny and spicy, but also dealt with serious and important issues. It's a mix that can be dangerous if done badly, but in A Vow for the Vamp, Settle Meyer has managed to make all the elements work together in harmony.
I really liked this story. The chemistry between the two main characters is just incredible. I also enjoyed the fact that Millie is a confident character who is comfortable in her own body. I also appreciated the fact that Teddy isn't a young man with abs impressive enough to be used as a washboard, but that he had a dad bod that made Millie's mouth water as much as that of an Apollo.
Now I really want to know more about Layla and the gargoyle with whom she'll have to work.
I highly recommend this story, but suggest you read the TWs list before you start.
Thanks to Settle Myer for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
⭐️ 3.75/5 🌶️ 3/5 📖 Settle Myer Release date 12th September
A vow for the vamp is a super fun novella, there were plenty of times I found my self laughing out loud whilst reading this book.
I loved Millie is a 500 year old, sexy bad ass who takes no sh!t plus sized vampire - bored and uninspired she is ready to face the sun when she bumps into (quite literally) Teddy a hot, witty, golden retriever to spark her interest. I LOVE a plus size FMC, what I love about Settle's portrayal of Millie is she is confident and secure in her body. Mille and Teddy have the best banter and chemistry together. Teddy balances out Millie and his sunny personality shows Millie that a life with him is worth living. We met Layla in this book and I was so glad to see that she will be getting her own story at some point. Can not wait to see where her story goes I really liked her interactions will Millie in this book.
The spice spiced in this book we have a FF and FM scenes in this book they were definitely hot and steamy.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a spicy supernatural read, its a quite fun steamy story that you can gobble up. I would suggest you checking the Trigger warnings before reading this book 😉
Tropes ✨ Plus size FMC ✨ Black Cat ✨ Dad bod MMC ✨ Golden Retriever ✨ Age Gap ✨ Touch him and 💀 ✨ Fated mates
Thank you Settle for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Can I begin my appreciation for this book by mentioning the playlist?! Etta James and Otis Redding among others...🥰 I may not be a 500 yr old vampire but I too think about yeeting myself into traffic. Never imagined finding something relatable in a vampire 😅 I tell you wHat. Settle Myer has to be a personal favorite when it comes to plus-size characters. Relatable representation is freaking awesome! Teddy seems adorable and kinda awkward at first and I love this for Millie. I don't think I've ever heard the description "burnt cinnamon roll" before. Oh, I really like the "blood mates" theory where they can truly love ❤️ and experience so much more in their immortal life together. They have that insta lust, unmistakable attraction, and Millie's quickly kindled territorial urge. Oh, this has those foot kicking/giggling to full belly laugh-inducing moments! Ahh, and envisioning Otis Redding as a vampire singing in a club full of supernatural beings is wild.
I can honestly say that I haven't enjoyed any vampire romance as much as this! Thank goodness the author's posts on the socials had a chokehold on my feed!
WOW love it!! 🤌🏻👏🏻Settle Meyer did it again. This was amazingly written with great characters, background and detail and left me wanting more stories. 🙏🏻This was a novella but am hoping for more from this world Meyer created for us to read. 📖 this novella follows Millie a 500 year old vamp ready to end everything when she literally smacks into Teddy a human who turns out to be special … 🤫no spoilers but highly recommend joining them on this ride if the night! 🌃🔥🌶️🥵 you will not be able to stop reading and feeling everything that happened and happens to the characters. It was also cool that there were other supernatural beings mentioned 😍So Great reading something so different and refreshing with a new take on vampires and representation. Believe me I’ve read and even seen a lot of vampire books and movies but this right here, having a plus side female be the Vamp Babe and main character was Genius! 🫦🩸💃🔥 Settle Meyer you’re killing it with your new monster era!! 😈 and we’re here for it can’t wait to see and read what you have next for us
I quite enjoyed this story. It's not often that I read a book where the vampire main character is a female. Millie has had enough of her internal life...she's ready to end it all when a run-in with a sexy human changes her fate. Teddy is also in a tough spot but he doesn't let it get him down...he's simply a happy guy. I loved how both Millie and Teddy were not one-dimensional. They were complex and had multiple layers. Millie was a super strong woman but seemed to like being dominated a little by her "puppy". Teddy, on the other hand, was always positive and going with the flow...but boy did he have a dirty mouth and a hot dominant side. Great to see a plus size female character that totally enjoyed her body.
First off, I'm so happy to finally have a fat vampire. Twilight and so many vampire stories have been telling us vampires shift to "thin beauty perfection" and here we have perfectly sexy plus-size Millie with all her confidence bringing perfect beauty beyond standards. As for the story itself, omg it was addictive 😱. The spice starts quick and strong, the world is intriguing and the main plot got me not wanting to stop until the end. We have a classic black cat, golden retriever pairing that easily open up and shift within their dynamic. And omg the nicknames got me squealing 😍. I loved it so much and I can't wait to dive back into this world.
This was a quick, flirty, saucy, and kinda healing read!!
Our FMC Millie, who happens to be a fat vampire, struggles with depression. After centuries, it’s almost to be expected, especially after her tragic story.
When Millie meets Teddy, our golden retriever MMC, sparks fly (or should I say blood?)
I just loved their dynamic a lot! I loveee a grumpy/sunshine moment, and Millie really showed up and was the growly possessive, protective character we bookish girlies LOVE
This was faster paced, but to be expected with a novella! I’m just so sad I won’t have teddy content anymore, but excited to see what Layla brings in book two!
Ummm how dare this be so damn adorabkle?! I honestly wasn't sure if Settle Myer's writing style would translate to PNR, but OMG this is a delight! I love how 'over it' Millie was, been there, done that, got the t-shirt vibes... which is kinda rare for fmc's (espescially fat gals). I loved the story, it was a unique take on vampire love I think, and even though I usually don't like insta-love, but honestly it's kind of impossible not to immeditley adore Teddy. And can we talk about how this still manages to have heart along side the smexy stuff?! I was giddy reading this- loved it! Settle Myer proves she can do no wrong and is just criminally underrated <3
I swore off vampire books two years ago when the first one I read had questionable scenes. I apparently have triggers... This one has redeemed vampires for me. I originally added it to my TBR because, as a fat chick, this was optimal representation. And oh majesty, it did not disappoint. It's fast moving, but the plot is so good I was worried I was going to be disappointed when it ended, but I'm actually satisfied with the ending and the overall length. I absolutely adored it's grumpy/sunshine insta love. This is the first book I've read by Settle, and I've already added more of their work to my TBR.
