Far from home, deep in the black and endless expanse of the perilous Wood, in a place where the graves of universes long dead have been gathered in inexplicable number, there stands a wall that nothing in existence can cross, be they mortals or spirits…or even gods.
The Keeper’s travelers have found themselves divided and scattered across the twisted landscape of the Denselands, lost and vulnerable, unaware that unspeakable dangers bear down on them from all directions. Enemies of the Cycle seek to end their journey before they can reach the Gateways of the Whispers, unseen forces making their moves…springing their traps…narrowing in on their prey…
And yet the Keeper’s incomprehensible machine marches on in the bleak forest’s endless darkness, unimpeded, uncompromising. Friend and foe alike find themselves at the ends of his inescapable puppet strings. But what macabre tragedy might he intend to make them all perform before this journey is done? For not all who play the Keeper’s roles live to see another show.
Will everyone find their way to the Gateways of the Whispers in time? Or will they be doomed to spend eternity languishing in these distant acres of black forest with the rest of the Wood’s forsaken dead?

The best thing about this series is the imaginative depths of the story. I liked how the characters faced the obstacles with that touch of humorous sarcasm.
There was an amazing sense of place, albeit horrible in parts. I enjoyed the mystery and mysticism. The characters suited the plot and each had a distinct personality.
