When you can’t see ahead, try looking back.

Jo Quinn has everything under control. After her engagement suddenly ends, she is perfectly fine, thank you very much. Until her first love crashes through her walls and back into her life.

Hunter Cleary is looking for a new start after coming out, and moving in with her first love might not be the best way to do it, but it definitely isn’t the worst. When her new roommate finds herself planning her ex-fiance’s wedding, Hunter steps up to the plate and volunteers to help in an unconventional way. Jo surprises herself when she agrees to the outlandish plan because, really, it can’t make things worse.

The more fake they are with the world, the more real Jo and Hunter are with each other, slowly realizing that there’s so much more to the other than meets the eye.

Because even though they’re not fifteen anymore, they still might be exactly who the other needs.

This was the first book I’ve read by the author and it didn’t disappoint. While it read easy, there are deeper topics such as mental health, physical health, and homophobia. The author did a good job at weaving them into the story and providing a delicate balance between not enough and too much. I’m also always a sucker for when one MC calls the other by their full name when no one else does, so the times she didn’t I was thrown off because I enjoyed it so much.

Thank you to the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

“Never be embarrassed by the soft parts of you. I love the prickly bits too, because they protected you when I couldn’t, but the soft, sweet parts of you are so special to me.”

What a lovely second chance romance! I adored book one and was so excited to learn that book two was going to be sapphic! In addition to being heartwarming with scorching spice, there is chronic illness and neurodivergent rep!

Jo & Hunter’s love story spans years and this book features many flashback scenes of when they first fell in love as teenagers and how they find each other again over a decade later. It’s very sweet and full hope. I had so much fun reading it!

4.5 stars!

First love gets a second chance in "Back to Me" by Katie Duggan. This is one of my favorite books this year! I absolutely loved every single thing about this book. It's funny, heartfelt, intimate, sexy, and delicate. The characters are spectacular. I adored Jo and Hunter both as individuals and as a couple. Hunter is sassy, strong, thoughtful, and yet vulnerable. Jo was frequently manipulated by her ex-wife. She has major depressive disorder and goes into a deep depression from time to time. She is often unsure of herself, but she has found her way back to normalcy (for the most part). In fact, they are BOTH unsure of themselves and are still discovering parts of who they are. They find solace in each other. Their connection is electric. You feel how deeply they care about one another in every interaction. You never doubt their feelings. This book is also SO hilarious. I literally cackled out loud repeatedly. And the spice! Oh my god, the spice. I raised my fist in the air and cheered multiple times while reading this book. And... characters who actually talk through their problems and give each other space?! In what world!? I just loved this book so, so much. It has wonderful ADHD representation, a great exploration of what it's like to have chronic diabetes and major depressive disorder, and also gives readers an exploration of religious trauma and mental health struggles. Reading about a vast array of sexualities, body types, and disabilities gives me hope for the future of the romance genre. This book is truly inclusive and is very successful at it. Katie Duggan, you have my whole heart!

Thank you to NetGalley and Katie Duggan for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Back to Me is a sweet second chance sapphic romance with impeccable ADHD rep, a rowdy menacing family with hearts of gold, and a mechanical bull scene. (!!) The communication in this series is just SO good - the main characters treat each other with respect and care. The spicy scenes are unbelievably excellent. I liked the spins on the various microtropes that popped up - one-bed and grand gestures in particular.
This book is great for everyone, but especially anyone who has felt like they’re too much or not deserving of love; for those afraid to take up space; and for those who have ever wanted to name a bearded dragon Dolly Parton.

The first girl you’ve ever loved might be the one to steal your heart once again, this time for good. Trigger warning: this story contains mental illness, chronic physical illness, neurodiversity, religious family trauma.

I received an advance copy from Netgalley for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Life for Giovanna, Jo, is rough. Being left by her fiancée a year ago in favor of her boss, did a serious number on her. Even though her ex Kelsey never treated her right and saw Jo being a chronic diabetic as a huge nuisance, the break up hurt like hell. Jo slipped into a bout of depression feeling like she lost herself and not knowing how to get that version of herself back. As a wedding and event planner she plans a friend’s wedding not knowing they hired Hunter as their photographer. Hunter, the girl she was madly in love with during a summer twelve years ago, only for Hunter to leave her broken. Jo’s heart never mended completely after that. Hunter grew up into an even more beautiful and intriguing woman. Jo accepts this chance meeting as another event that drags her down further. That is until her wedded friend proposes Hunter to become Jo’s new roommate. Jo is determined to keep the past where it belongs. That proves extremely difficult as Hunter stirs up all kinds of feelings that break through her numbness.

Hunter has finally accepted herself for the chaotic but kind mess she is. Her Christian family is another story. They kicked Hunter out when she came out as bisexual. Packing up her stuff and starting a new life in the city, she lands a job of photographing a wedding. To her surprise the event is planned by Jo, the girl whose heart she broke twelve years ago. Hunter never forgot Jo and hopes she can forgive her teenage mistakes. When she ends up moving into Jo’s apartment, Hunter is determined to mend their relationship. Even if Jo can only offer friendship, Hunter wants her back in her life. Living with Jo stirs up a lot of feelings for Hunter and she falls madly in love with her again. The question is: is Jo ready to be loved?

I loved this story! The POV switches between Jo and Hunter and the timeline alternates between 12 years ago and the present. It’s a beautiful concept revealing new truths along the way. Both Jo and Hunter struggle with accepting themselves with all their good and their more challenging character traits, but they accept the other without question. It’s clear that what you, yourself, see as a flaw is something others might naturally accept as another part of you that deserves to be loved.

The representation of living with chronic diabetes, depression and ADHD is very well done. It’s clear Katie Duggan knows what she is writing about. A chronic disease like diabetes 1 rules the life of the patient. It’s heartwarming to see that Hunter doesn’t see Jo’s condition as an inconvenience but rather she does everything in her power to understand the limitations it brings to Jo’s life and tries her best to support her in every way she can. It’s the same for Jo’s need to sometimes revert back into herself to deal with her emotions. Hunter gives her a safe space to deal with whatever comes her way and is there when Jo resurfaces to welcome her back with love and kindness. On her part Jo loves all of Hunter, even though she struggles with ADHD. Hunter might be disorganized, loud and impulsive but for Jo that’s what makes her unique. It is the first time Hunter feels like she is accepted just as she is.

Hunter’s traumatic coming out results in her being kicked out of her extremely Christian family. Although she accepts her sexuality herself, the pain of her family disowning her stays locked inside her heart. Jo’s large family eventually accepts Hunter into their fold completely. It’s simultaneously heartbreaking and so sweet to see what this kind of loving acceptance can do to heal a person.

Back To Me is a gorgeous second chance love story. A story that deserves to be savored.

This was an emotionally deep, second chance, friends to lovers, fake dating, roommate romance that takes place in the Quiblings universe but can definitely be read as a standalone. I loved Jo and Hunter and the flashbacks we get from their first summer together.

They both have scars from the past and are in therapy working through their individual issues. The mental health rep (Jo's depression) and disability rep (Type 1 diabetes, Jo and ADHD, Hunter) was excellent! The two women show up for one another, learn to take risks on love and COMMUNICATE!! Expect lots of cameos from Jo's big queer family and it was so great to see how her parents are trying harder and growing themselves!

This was my first book by indie romance author Katie Duggan and definitely won't be my last!! Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review! Highly recommended for fans of authors like Chloe Liese!

Steam level: open door, a few graphic sex scenes including sex toys
CW: homophobia, toxic relationships/gaslighting

I really wanted to enjoy this book, I really liked the concept but for me the execution was just not it.

I really struggle with contemporary books that reference modern day things so the constant references to Taylor Swift etc bugged me so much. I’ve never read a book with a playlist attached but I didn’t really like the whole listen-to-this-song-while-reading-this-chapter vibe with the song title at the beginning of each chapter. The chapters were also really short, probably the duration of said songs which I didn’t really like.

Within the first few pages there was already a handful of spelling and grammar issues and with the plot on top I just couldn’t read on.

Jo and Hunter didn’t feel like very well thought out people. For people in their late twenties they feel painfully immature in their words and actions and I just didn’t enjoy it. The writing style felt like it was going for sexy but just came across as crude.

The constant references to Bridgerton made it obvious that that’s what the author is trying to do with the whole queer siblings series thing. Sadly, this one just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC.

This books comes with a content warning, why? Honestly I don’t know.. I understand how some of the events can be triggering to some people, but surely the content warning is a bit much.

I didn’t mind the story, nor did I really like it. Now I wonder if that might have been influenced by the content warning, it had me expecting something more intense than this repetitive and mediocre story. I do like how the body types are different from most of these books. The support between our two mains is excellent, although it’s a tad unbelievable and over the top.

Mediocre book with different than usual representation.

"If wanting to kiss pretty girls is an affliction, I hope I'm never cured."

Jo and Hunter's story is absolutely beautiful. I genuinely had trouble putting this book down (I stayed up later than I should have a few times because I couldn't stop reading).

It's been a while since I've seen myself represented so well by a character, but even Hunter's first POV chapter really made me feel seen. The religious trauma? The ADHD rep? Painfully accurate. Plus, this book is full of other great representation as well. The found family aspect of this is so beautiful, and I really almost teared up a few times.

Another thing I love is how well this book sets up the stories of the rest of the Quinn siblings. I genuinely cannot wait to read the next one!

If you like sapphic romance, a playlist with some of my favorite artists, and fake dating, this one's for you, my friend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️

I loved From the start so much that I was afraid my expectations would be too high for this one but wow. Jo & Hunter were perfection. Once again this book was beautiful, tender and the longing between these two was too much but in the best way. I adored Hunter, her constant internal dialogues was everything.

« Part of me is worried she won’t come back, and gosh. It’s so silly, but I think I’d rather have her company, hear what she’s been up to, than this cake. No, that’s ridiculous. The cake is phenomenal. »

She made me smile the whole way.

It could be read as a stand alone but Nic and Josh’s story was amazing and having read it prior made me enjoy the whole family and the cameos even more.
All the Quiblings need to have their own book like yesterday. Even Kat.

If I had to pick one thing to complain about it would be the too many Taylor Swift mention but I am letting it go because this book is beautiful and you should read it.

I was given an ARC copy of this book & my opinions are my own.

This was my first Katie Duggan book, and I loved it! I got it as an ARC reader.

Jo and Hunter's paths cross again after years apart, and their connection is as strong as ever. However, the past looms large, and they must navigate their feelings, the challenges of their current lives, and the lingering effects of their teenage heartbreak.

One of the aspects I appreciated most about this book was the honest representation of characters with disabilities and mental health conditions. I also love the fat representation, which I can relate to.

I love how Katie portrayed care, support, and love between Jo and Hunter and it was so heartwarming. Jo and Hunter’s understanding and empathy for each other create a beautiful connection that is both comforting and uplifting.

Now, I want to read the rest of the series.

I got an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I loved that Katie Duggan included both 'Clit Notes' and a playlist related to Jo and Hunter in her book. She’s definitely the people’s author!

Something that really stood out to me was the fact that she added resources alongside her content warnings. She might not be the first author to do this, but she’s the first I’ve noticed, and I think it’s such a thoughtful gesture that could really help someone who needs it.

Now, about the story itself—I wanted to like it more, but a few things didn’t quite work for me. There were some typos and formatting mistakes that pulled me out of the story, and the 'breaking the fourth wall' writing style wasn’t my preference. It felt a bit too juvenile for my taste.

The romance didn’t feel super realistic to me either. The whole “I haven’t seen you in 12 years, but the moment I see you, I’m drooling all over you and fantasizing about our past” felt more like something teenagers would do, not grown women. I was hoping for a bit more of a mature slow-burn, getting-to-know-you-again story.

That said, I have to give props where they’re due. This is the first sapphic romance I’ve read where one of the main characters has MDD and Type 1 diabetes, and Duggan handles both with a lot of care and clearly did her research, which I really appreciated.

I also liked the little touches like the design of the text bubbles and phone chats. It’s small stuff, but it made the reading experience more enjoyable.

This book is walking in someone else’s shoes. All good books should be but they are most effective I think when it is a completely different set of life experience to my own. I am learning about living with diabetes, depression as well as negotiating life with neurodivergence. I have read books before with these challenges, sometimes mains, sometimes peripheral but this is the most I have felt I am walking in their shoes, not reading about them walking in their shoes. This, on one hand, has a common plot trope, there are limited tropes, so no surprise. It is also a big book!
I some times got a wee bit confused with who was speaking when there were long conversational sections with few identifiers. I will be honest I keep looking at how much book is left and thinking, how will this be filled. I liked that we were shown them getting closer, and that there are conversations about off page incidents that reveal the mindsets of the mains.
There is a scene where the family and partners and possibly their best friends are introduced..... Too many people and backstories or personalities introduced at once.
The intimate scenes didn’t work for me, which is a shame because there were some powerful messages in amongst them.
70% and although there is currently no break up arc in sight there is the whole, oops, I love her/can’t tell her that they are both thinking. That irritated me.
This is kind of two books in my mind. A walk in someone else’s shoes, a line I know I used already but is appropriate all through the book and was, for me the strongest part of the book. There was also a romance. This is not a light frothy romance. It wasn’t even a chemistry filled romance and because I got most out the “shoes” side, it was quite a heavy book, and a bit heavy going at times.

I loved this story so much! Whether you are in the LGBTQ2S+ community, plus sized, have a mental illness , have gone through a heartbreak, loss, reflection, and more … this book can relate to someone in some way! I have related so much , myself personally .. when it comes to the mentions of mental health and ADHD. Everything the characters have gone through or their feelings in regard to this connected with me on such a deep level.

I am a huge romance lover but new to reading romance within the queer community and I enjoyed it. I think that it’s great to write about , we often see many “straight” romance books written and not enough for others with different sexuality or genders. The romance all together was so cute and enjoyable, I loved the story of Jo and Hunter and if you are into tropes small town romance, and second chance love especially then you may love this book too.

I love the characters Jo and Hunter. Their story was nothing but easy. Through the ups and down with nothing but love and support for one another. The spice between them was STEAMYYYYYY and HOT ! The patience, support and patience just showed what a healthy relationship looks like. I also loved the characters in Jo’s family, support all the way around.m.. with a couple bumps along the way.

This book felt real to me and again relatable and situations we do see in everyday life. I loved the representations in this book. SUPPORT all the way!!

Everything else was just a bonus for me , it was fun, romantic, sad, spicy and sexy .. and overall a great read for me.

My first read from this author and I will definitely go back and read the first book in this series , about Nic and Josh! Any future books will be added to my TBR immediately.

Back To Me has inclusivity written all over it, beginning with the cover page, and moving forward into the content warnings, where Duggan lets readers know that within this romance are serious topics in which many will relate to. And then we also get a “Clit Notes’ page which is fantastic, and hilarious. The perfect map of how to avoid or go straight to all the steamy scenes. I’ve never seen this before in a book and thought it was clever.

Jo isn’t great after her fiancé leaves her for another woman, who also happens to be her boss. She goes through life trying to convince her friends and family she is fine and is sure she is doing a superb job. When her ex asks her to organize her upcoming wedding, she can’t say no – the money will get her free of her past and help her set up her dream business.

Hunter comes to town for a photographer gig and needs a place to live. A friend recommends Jo, and when the two women meet, they are thrown back to a summer love that both had never truly moved on from.

A fake romance, a failing relationship, and a single bed scenario means that Jo and Hunter are forced to question where they are headed and what they want from their lives. Throw in a bunch of nosey yet loving family members, and Back To me has many classic rom-com vibes.
Katie Duggan has written a book that has characters who are fun, quirky, and relatable. The story line is light, with topics that may touch readers in different ways, but in the end, it concludes with the HEA that feels inevitable for Hunter and Jo. Don’t miss this one.

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving a voluntary review.

"I think you focus so hard on all the things you perceive as wrong, or bad, about yourself. But we all have those things, and it doesn't make us less capable of a healthy romantic relationship."

This one goes out to Jo, Hunter and Dolly Parton! 🙌🏼😩

What a ride this story was. Ups, downs, flips and dips. It was everything and so much more.

There was once again SO. MUCH. representation in this story, and Katie truly knows how to do it in a beautiful way. It's got fat & queer representation, with neurodivergence and chronic illness / disability thrown in the mix. Add to that a sprinkle of mental health awareness (with a healthy dose of therapy) and you've got yourself another wonderful Katie Duggan book!

Jo and Hunter are both so different but insanely special and beautiful in their own way. Seeing them find their way back to eachother (thanks to some fake dating, ugh i love that trope) was a wonderful ride we got to go on.

As I told Katie, I am not fond of reptiles. But Dolly Parton found a way into my heart and is there to stay.

Wonderful, wonderful read. I'm so glad I decided to read 'From The Start' and 'Back To Me' before the ARC of 'On My Side'.
I can't wait to get to know Audrey & Ren (and Piper, she seems like a fun time). ✨🤍 I already love them!

Back To Me is a steamy Adult Romance novel.

{Jo and Hunter agree to fake date after Jo agrees to plan her ex-fiancés wedding}

I’m always here for books having great representation. And this book is one where many people can see themselves in the characters and I believe it will be incredibly validating. Whether it be for body positivity, mental health, chronic illness/diabetes and/or coming out to unsupportive families, there’s so much going on in these pages that gives space for positive and honest representation.

I do have to admit I personally had a hard time with one aspect of this story. As this is a second chance romance, the two first met as teenagers and haven’t seen each other in twelve years. Now as adults and in each other’s lives again, they often reflect back on their past. But the way they discuss their past intimacy could be very graphic at times and it made me uncomfy reading about teens in this way. I’m a smut lover, and teens are never on page being intimate, but just the way it was discussed was a *personal* hang up for me.

Overall, I think you should definitely check this book out because I think there’s many things for a person to enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this eARC.

I absolutely loved the story of Jo and Hunter! This was my first ever FF read and I’m so glad it was this one! I loved the development, the realism and the fact that there was so many diverse characters. Hunter has my heart, she was incredible! How despite her own trauma was always ready to rise to the challenge and protect her own. She is everything.
I love how Jo developed in her story and I’m not afraid to admit i whooped with joy at her girl boss moments .

Thank you to the author for sending me a review copy.

What to expect:
-Sapphic/FF
-Second chance
-Forced proximity (Room-mance)
-Fake dating
-Big family antics
-T1D, ADHD and Major depression disorder representation

CW: homophobia, toxic ex/workplace

I liked how Jo & Hunter found ways to reconcile their past and make space for vulnerability and honesty in their reunion as roommates, friends, and eventually partners. I really liked how authentic their relationship felt - it’s not always a linear path to the HEA and they faced obstacles (both within themselves and in their external relationships) with open communication and making space for each other.

Katie Duggan is quickly becoming an author that could write just about anything and I would read it. Book two in their Quibling series was just as tender, raw, and heartfelt as the first. The mental health representation in the book and the found family are some of the best I’ve read. Cannot wait for book three!!

-sapphic second chance romance
-depression, ADHD, and T1D rep
-fake dating… until it’s not
-a bearded dragon named Dolly Parton!!
-learning to feel deserving of good things and love

I want to thank NetGalley and Victory Editing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

this book was really adorable! I loved how the 2 mains kept telling each other how they felt and were always opened and honest with one another. The communication with them was really well done. I just find there were to many other characters and their back stories involved that it was kind of confusing at times to follow allll of that.. other than that, very cute read!

The story of Jo and Hunter, former teenage sweethearts who after 12 years apart, reconnect after a chance meeting, when they move in together.

Jo, an event planner had just been hired to plan her ex-finances wedding. Hunter, has been hired as the photographer. To prove to her ex she's over her, Jo implies her and Hunter are dating, thus ensues them faking it.
The dual pov and flashbacks to the summer they spent together at 15, delve into the feeling they've had and have for each other still.

I adored Jo and Hunter. They are each others first everything. Seeing them reconnect years later, the love for each other still there is beautiful. In the between years, they've both had a hard time. Jo and her struggle with depression and diabetes. Hunters, being diagnosed with ADHD and being disowned by her family after coming out.
The book is honest and open. While a fictional story, it feels very real.

While the book is second of a series, I have not read the first and didn't not feel lost with this as its focuses on different characters.

Thank you @katiedugganwrites for the ARC ❤

Katie Duggan is now an auto-buy author for me! I ADORED Nic and Josh in 'From the Start' and have been anxiously awaiting Jo's story.

Hunter and Giovanna (Jo) met during the summer when they were 15. After spending weeks together and being each other's firsts for everything, they separated at the end of the summer and weren't reunited. After twelve years, some mental health revelations, and coming out for each of them, Hunter and Jo cross paths again working a wedding and soon become roommates.

These gals absolutely adore one another and their love is raw, genuine, deep, and beautiful! They show up for one another, even when hard on themselves. Hunter and Jo are also just SO into each other and their spicy scenes were super hot and steamy.

One thing I love about Katie Duggan's books are that she is able to create believable conflict without necessitating a third act breakup and in doing so, she's able to highlight the importance of mental health and self care. I love the way that Duggan reps disability, body diversity, and queer identities in her stories. The universe she is creating with the Quiblings series is such a safe space where everyone is allowed to be themselves. I loved seeing Nic and Josh again and all of the Quiblings shenanigans. It felt like a warm hug.

This series is so, so, so good. I can't recommend it enough!

I fully enjoyed this book! Im so grateful to have received an ARC to read.

I thought there was a great chronic and mental illness rep! My BIL has type one diabetes. He often feels the same way Jo does about being a burden and being exhausted just trying to keep himself alive.

Second chances and fake dating are two tropes that are meant to be together as well! I loved Hunter's internal struggle of being attracted to Jo but also feeling like they shouldn't be together. and then later Jo's very own struggle with the same thing and not feeling good enough to be with Hunter.

also everytime Hunter owned Kelsey I wanted to SCREAM.

Back to Me by Katie Duggan was a dialogue-heavy, character-driven adult contemporary romantic comedy with a multi-trope plot. It demonstrated how messy and beautiful loving and allowing our imperfect selves to be loved can be. Most importantly, it reinforced that we are worth the hard work it requires.
This novel felt like a series of therapy sessions, lessons in being kind to oneself while holding space for others' experiences. The reality of queer otherness, chronic illness, and mental health struggles is challenging, and the relationship between Jo and Hunter was cathartic and validating.
Bonus for well-done ADHD and Major Depressive Disorder rep, Type 1 Diabetes, and a variety of queer representation. Fantastic body positivity throughout. Body love! Consent and safe sex were a priority.
Trigger warnings for homophobia and family rejection. Religious bigotry was mentioned.
Back to Me showed our main character's summer relationship when they were teens through flashbacks and their second-chance opportunity in the present. My heart broke for those young girls who experienced first love, heartbreak, and fear. They both had to navigate their trauma at the time without the needed support.
Their current lives were chaotic as they became roommates and entered a fake relationship. Despite the serious nature of their circumstances, the humor injected into the relationships through friendly teasing and witty banter had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. The friend and family group was quirky, caring, and hilarious. There was a great support system for the adult versions of those girls who so badly needed it.
Their second chance was a slow burn, face-your-fears, fight-for-what-you-deserve kind of journey. Then it also got spicy. They were so sweet and supportive of one another as well.
Overall, the writing was done very well. There were a few times in the dialogue that it was hard to determine who was speaking. I also felt like it started to get a little long, but then when it wrapped, I was tearing up at an ending that was filled with such joy and hope. This was an entertaining and valuable read. I am giving it a 4.75 rounded up.

I received a free ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.

I absolutely adore Jo and Hunter!

Jo Quinn is determined to be ok after her fiancée left without a word, but she still struggles especially since she has to see her ex-fiancée at work. When her boss and ex announce their engagement and ask Jo to plan the wedding, she quickly fakes a relationship with her new roommate to prove that she too has moved on. Hunter Cleary is looking for a fresh start in the city and when the opportunity arises to move in with her first love, she takes it. When Hunter is hired to be the photographer for the same wedding Jo is planning, she steps up to confirm their fake relationship. As they fake their relationship for the world, they become closer as roommates and friends, but they have to figure out if they can still be what the other needs after twelve years apart.

I loved Jo and Hunter both individually and together. Hunter is smart, sassy, and caring while also dealing with internalized homophobia and ADHD. I love the way she speaks up to defend Jo especially when Kelsey tries to control her. Jo is kind and driven, but struggles with coping with both her type 1 diabetes and major depressive disorder. The way that the author portrayed both of these characters and their struggles was beautiful. I loved how they both struggled with parts of themselves, but were quick to accept everything about the other person. They had some issues with communication, but overall did really well communicating about how ADHD or type 1 diabetes impacted their lives. Hunter accepted that Jo's diabetes could impact her life and tried to learn the best ways to support her (unlike Kelsey) while Jo tried to do some things around the apartment to make Hunter's life easier with her ADHD. I loved how she made the effort to adjust her language in order to not trigger Hunter's rejection sensitivity.

The author did a fantastic job of making the representation in this book feel completely natural and not forced. She includes a wide range of body types, backgrounds, sexualities, gender identities, and more. I loved the balance that she struck between addressing issues surrounding religious trauma, internalized homophobia, and mental health struggles with the relationship that Hunter and Jo built. I really related to Hunter's journey as she works with her therapist to discover her true sexual orientation. It felt really realistic because I know several people who have had their own orientation evolve and shift. I love this series so much and I cannot wait to dive into the next book!
