I really loved this book, and I absolutely cannot wait to read the next one! I've read so many duds lately: books with no plot, or no character development, or that just left me feeling like the author could have done so much better. Daindreth's Assassin, on the other hand, is such a win! Excellent character depth and development, believable character choices and dialogue, a novel plot, intricate world-building, a strong female protagonist, a romantic match that leaves you wanting more instead of grimacing at their choices...

This time around I listened to the audiobook. It is read by the author, which I LOVE because the reader hears the original intentions of the author. I hate to say it, but I actually didn't love her reading of it; since Elizabeth isn't a trained voice artist, her reading can be a little stilted. I still enjoyed the audiobook and would give it 4.5 stars. I am hopeful that the breath support and phrasing will improve with future books. I'm also looking forward to reading the print book to get a different experience.

I'm really glad I finally got to read this book, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands off the next one!

I like these books, I really do. My one big complaint is that there are so many typos. I really just want to fix them. I end up highlighting them and making notes for myself but ugh. Also a few select phrases that don't fit within a fantasy context linguistically -- "puritanical" being something a character says in a later book for example. (Why are there Puritans being referenced in a fantasy world?)

But other than that I'd say that these are my favorite books for this year so far. Yes I'm reading and buying all of them. They're fun! I enjoy it. I just wish they had gone through another round of proof reading.

So I gave this a shot because I really love Elisabeth Wheatley’s Book Goblin skits. I like her voice and she is the reader as well. Actually really enjoyed this…it’s an easy listen. There is good romantic tension and a good amount of plot too.
