“Identity Theft" by Jeff Kikel and Gary Kasper immediately drew me in after learning that my Social Security number had been compromised on the dark web. As I delved into the book, I found it both intriguing and informative, offering practical steps for protecting myself. It highlighted the importance of staying vigilant—regularly checking credit scores, monitoring credit card transactions, and taking proactive actions to prevent identity theft. The book clearly explains the difference between fraud and identity theft, revealing how criminals manage to carry out such harmful acts. It's astonishing how frequent data breaches are, yet many of us assume it won't happen to us. The fact that these criminals target children is the most difficult thing I read, and the hardest info for me to swallow. I highly recommend this book to everyone, even those who haven't been directly affected by a breach. The consequences of identity theft extend far beyond financial damage and can take a serious emotional toll.
