I was so happy to return to the Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series, as I feel I am invested in their lives and needed more. I loved the verse to start this journey ICorinthians 13:7-8 Love Bears all things, believes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Perfect verse to begin March 1866 as from Georgia to Alabama we meet Hannah as she travels to find help to save Whitfield Hall because of love for her family. Upon arrival she finds herself in a predicament as the man she seeks has departed this life and she must now trust his family to help. Well written with twists and turns to keep you guessing and characters you will love and feel like they are family. I appreciate the research that has gone into this series and the way the author brings this time period to life. I highly recommend this series and this book, as it could be read alone, but why would you want to miss out.

This was my first read by this author. Starting with the fifth book in a series is always interesting. I would definitely recommend reading the other books first so all the background information is there. I was a little confused at first, from not reading the other books, but soon figured out what was going on and then was fine. I really enjoyed this story! Especially as it involves a marriage of convenience. I loved Rupert, how he was willing to help Hannah and her family no matter what even though he didn’t know any of them until recently. Hannah is also a brave one in seeking help from a man she has never met. I really enjoyed both sets of families. But I especially loved watching Rupert and Hannah’s relationship progress, it was so sweet. There is also great Christian content throughout. I definitely recommend!

As a superfan of Ms. Sloan’s Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series, I was eager to reconnect with the McNeil family and dive into Rupert’s story. It was all I hoped for and more! The opening line establishes the mood for the post-Civil War Georgia and Alabama setting and drew me in immediately: “The South may have ceded defeat in the recent war, but peace was yet to arrive.” The intriguing plot flows at a steady pace with adventure, family dynamics, and several surprising twists. Characters, who soon feel like friends and family, kept me invested in the outcome of the story. I love how the sweet marriage of convenience romance develops and appreciate the gentle faith thread. I totally enjoyed this heartwarming, entertaining story and highly recommend it and the series. Note: This book can easily be read as a standalone, but reading the series in order will give you greater insight to the characters and their actions and reactions.

Engaging story with lovable characters. The first page had me hooked and I was entertained to the last page. I never felt like the story lacked or was slow. A nice build on the romance that was sweet and perfect. This is the kind of story you think on for days after you read, it’s a feel good entertaining read. Now, I want to read stories of the other brothers and their journey in life.

I enjoyed this book and series and loved that previous characters made appearances in this one. This gives us Rupert and Hannah’s story and it begins with her desperately seeking help from an old family friend to save her home for her little brother. Rupert is dealing with the loss of his uncle and figuring out what to do next with his inheritance. What they find is danger and surprises but together they learn they can survive.

Great story.

Desperation leads to God’s plan for their lives.

An endearing story set in the Civil War aftermath. Hannah is faced with losing her home and legacy and must go on a desperate journey to find the solution. She bursts into Rupert’s life and changes it forever. They are opposites in many ways, but they balance each other nicely.

The writing style flows well and makes the plot move quickly. The struggles of civilians after the War is well presented. The romance was slowly built, but their attraction made it easy to trust each other. The loyalty to family is strong throughout the story. I enjoyed this addition to the series; I haven’t read all the previous ones but that doesn’t hinder my enjoyment of this one.

I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

Hannah Whitfield is facing losing her brother's inheritance due to some shady dealings by a carpetbagger who wants to seize the property for himself. Hannah shows courage in trying to do what she feels is best, but nothing goes as she plans. A marriage of convenience takes place and feels it's an easy solution. Not so.

The family relationships get strained on both sides, and the characters suffer loss and endure hardship. The book held my interest with its unfortunate mishaps, mystery, intrigue, and sweet romance. I never knew what would happen next. At times, I couldn't help but smile, but there were also tense moments where I held my breath. This story has it all!

I received an ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

This is a beautiful love story that had surprising situations within every chapter! The journey that Hannah and Rupert endured together throughout the book was exciting, with heartfelt moments, scary moments, and sweet tender moments. It will definitely be one I will treasure!

This is my voluntary review of a copy I was given.

This is an exciting story about a "marriage of convenience" between strangers. It has a strong Christian element to it authentically woven in.

The characters are charming. Hannah is the dutiful daughter who gave up her future to secure the legacy of the family farm for her little brother. Rupert has closed off his heart because it hurts too much to lose the ones he loves.

When the exciting stuff happens, both realize that they are already in love. :)

Redeeming Rupert (Rescued Hearts of the Civil War Book 5) by Susan Pope Sloan is a gently moving story that includes a marriage of convenience as well as a family in danger of losing their home. The US Civil War is over but for Hannah Whitfield her battles are as fierce and desperate as they have ever been. A Union officer is trying to take the family home which should go to her younger brother. In need of a protector, she finds one in Henry Rupert McNeil. It certainly wasn’t in his plans, but he is a true man of integrity.

A wonderful story of family, sacrifice, God’s provision and delivery. Just when you think this marriage has solved Hannah dilemma some unexpected and dangerous twists take place. A book that was difficult to put down once I started. The villain was despicable, the hero and heroine true blue. An enjoyable and insightful read.

I leave this with 3 stars because it was for the most part an enjoyable easy read.

Written from the pov of Hannah and Rupert (I love books written from multiple povs, but this didn't flow as smoothly between them)

This is a story about a marriage of convenience to love. There wasnt as much character growth between the couple as I was hoping to see.

And I love a good mystery, but this wasn't it for me and it seemed rushed. There were so many questions written from Hannah and Rupert thoughts, that it got a repetitive as the story continued, also the same questions over again and again.

Historical Romance books are one of my favorite genres. Redeeming Rupert by Susan Pope Sloan is the latest book in this genre that I have read. It is Book 5 in the Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series. I have been enjoying the series from the start of the Series.

I was totally engrossed in the Storyline from the very first page. The setting is 1866 in Georgia. The 2 main characters in the book are Hannah Whitfield and Rupert McNeil. Hannah is facing a situation where she must save the Family Farm for her younger brother. A Union Officer believes he can take possession of the farm and Hannah needs a male to be able to help her save the farm. Rupert McNeil is focused on his Uncle Inhertience to him which also includes a farm. He has vowed not to marry and wants to honor his Uncle by This book by not only running his farm, but helping others in the community. I LOVE how Rupert hears of Hannahs's plight he really wants to help her save Whitfield Hall also. Rupert and Hannah come decide the best option to save Whitfield Hall is that they get married. The fact that neither have ever really had a desire to marry but each are willing to do so to save Hannah's family legacy, is so heartwarming. I REALLY enjoyed seeing Hannah and Rupert grow their relationship and gain the trust of one another. Rupert is a gentleman and a man whose Faith is strong. Hannah is humbled by Rupert's proposal to help her. The book is one of Faith, LOVE, and Marriage of Convenience. I HIGHLY Recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Romance. WONDERFUL BOOK!

Redeeming Rupert is a wonderful historical fiction novel taking place just after the Civil War, with a marriage of convenience. This is also part of a series. You’re going to want to read the series in order so you can get all of the backstory. Plus, this series takes place during a time period where there are lots of things going on, so you need to read them in order to get the historical facts correct.

Hannah turns to Rupert to save her and her family farm by marriage. You see, there is a carpetbagger threatening and trying to take her land. But it’s all she has left. She’ll do anything to save it! And yes, that includes marrying a man she doesn’t love.

Rupert must decide what to do when Hannah comes for help. You see, she was searching for his uncle. But he’s passed on and left his estate to Rupert. Does that mean that Rupert also takes on his vow to help?

This was a wonderful historical fiction novel. I loved the bits of suspense, plus the romance. It read quickly. The characters were fun and interesting, and I loved getting to come back to this series.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

What a pleasant surprise this was featuring one of my very favorite tropes. In the aftermath of the Civil War, Hannah Whitefield is trying to save her family home especially for her young brother. Hannah will do just about anything to hold onto it, including marrying a stranger if that is what it takes.

Rupert McNeil and his family have just buried his beloved uncle. Now the heir to his uncle's land, he finds out he might just have inherited a little bit more than what he was expecting. After a long journey, a beautiful young woman, Hannah, appears on his front porch with quite an offer.

Now Hannah and Rupert must navigate politics, evil machinations, and family dynamics to get what is promised and more importantly, what they need more. With the backdrop of the political drama of the times, Hannah and Rupert must be smart and more than that, can they love one another enough through the tough decisions that await.

I really liked the Biblical story that this one closely resembled. No spoilers here, but this was a good historical of two families trying to rebuild after the Civil War.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

You could read this book as a standalone, but it would be better to read the previous books in the series first! I enjoyed the weaving in of new characters and thier story's while letting us know what previous characters are up to. I am the kind of reader that always wonders what characters are doing after the book ends, including past characters in a storyline is something I very much appreciate.

The thing I enjoy most about Susan Pope Sloans Rescued Hearts Of The Civil War series is that she writes about a different view and time than most other historical fiction of this time frame. It is always nice to have something a little different!

This is on the lighter read side though it does have some more intense subject matter. I spent most of the book yelling in my head for the two MC's to just talk already! In a good way! Pretty realistic as not many of us say what is on our hearts often.

The reason for three stars instead of four is near the end it gets a little jumpy and at one point I had to turn back a page as I was not sure if I had missed something as I was a little confused. Overall though a good read.

I received a copy of the book from the author, my opinions as always are my own.

I always enjoy reading Susan’s books, and this one was no exception. Set just after the Civil War, the story blends historical detail with emotional depth. Hannah Whitfield is a strong and determined heroine who puts her family’s needs above her own. Her loyalty and courage are tested when a carpetbagger threatens everything her family has left.

Rupert McNeil is equally compelling, a man burdened by loss but committed to doing what’s right. His connection to Hannah begins as a duty, but their relationship grows in unexpected ways. Their marriage of convenience brings tension, warmth, and moments of quiet understanding that feel genuine.

The book also weaves in mystery and conflict with a scheming relative who adds suspense to the story. The themes of legacy, sacrifice, and healing are handled with care, making this more than just a historical romance. It’s about two people learning to trust again in a world that has changed around them.

The pacing is steady, and the characters feel real, with motivations that make sense for their time and circumstances. This was a satisfying, heartfelt read with just the right mix of romance and drama.

I've read all the books in the series, and it was wonderful to be able to be updated on the characters in previous books but even though a reader hasn't read previous books, you can still enjoy this one. I would encourage a reader to go back and read previous books, however, mostly for enjoyment but also to get the full story of each character!
I sometimes forget that life continued to be difficult for people, especially Southerners after the Civil War, especially women. Hannah is one such woman. She doesn't have an adult man in her life to help her save her home and a devilish Yankee officer is trying to get her to marry him so he can take over her home. She doesn't know why he wants her home specifically, but she must track down a trustee named in her late father's will. When she finds him, she is surprised that he's died but his nephew, Rupert, is now the person responsible and together they will have to marry and figure things out. I can't even imagine marrying someone I don't know! Rupert discovers quickly that there's a lot of danger involved and family situations he never bargained on! I loved the characters and themes of this story.

"Redeeming Rupert" by Susan Pope Sloan is a Christian Historical Romance. Hannah Whitfield, trying to maintain her family’s home for her younger brother and the aftermath of war, forgoes her dreams of love and marriage and seeks out the elusive trustee named in her father’s will to save her home from a carpetbagger.

Meanwhile, Rupert McNeil, haunted by losses, vows never to marry. But when Hannah comes searching for his uncle, the trustee her father appointed, he agrees to marry her to help save her family’s estate.

The author does an excellent job of building a poignant story with interesting and engaging characters. This is the fifth book in the Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series. While you could read this book independently, I recommend reading the series to understand the characters from earlier books better.

So, if you want a Christian Historical Romance, check out Susan Pope Sloan's "Redeeming Rupert."

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This is a page-turning story of a determined young woman and a brave man coming together to face challenges to both of their families. An evil man has been trying to force Hannah to marry him and wants to get his hands on her family home. As there has been no answer to the letters her aunt has sent to a family friend to help them, Hannah decides to go to his home. When she gets there, she finds out that the man has recently died. Rupert is his uncle's heir and has sworn never to marry. As Hannah's and Rupert's lives intertwine, a marriage of convenience seems to be the answer as far as Rupert is concerned although he doesn't tell Hannah that. They marry and travel back to her home in Georgia and face many problems once they get there and while they are both falling in love. A well-written story with many interesting characters and some humor.

I have enjoyed reading the first four books from Susan Pope Sloan's Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series and was excited to have the opportunity to continue with the fifth installment, Redeeming Rupert. I adored Hannah and Rupert's story so much. It was an enjoyable adventure to take with them. It was full of action, suspense, love and faith. I had to keep reading until I was finished in one sitting. A great way to spend a snowy day.

I am giving Redeeming Rupert five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read clean historical romance. I am hoping there are more books to come from the Rescued Heart of the Civil War series.

I received a paperback copy of Susan Pope Sloan's Redeeming Rupert from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

She had to save her home. Her only hope was to marry Henry.
Her home meant everything to her. She was responsible to take care of her invalid brother plus her aunt and uncle.

Rupert just inherited Uncle Henry's place. He had no desire to marry. He thought he would remain a bachelor forever. But he didn't meet Hannah Whitfield.

I was a little surprised how quickly Rupert was willing to help Hannah. I would have thought he would be a little more hesitant. Hannah must have been a beauty to turn his head that fast. I loved seeing how their relationship changed.

Of course, the evil Mr. Prescott was not going to let them have a quiet life. He wanted that house desperately but why? How far would he go to get it?

He went pretty far but Rupert proved to all that he was the right choice for Hannah.

Great story of never giving up. I loved following Hannah as she tries to retrieve what was promised to her. She is on her own but I could tell that she was determined . I loved the historical facts in the story which helped me relate to the characters better.

Rupert is a good character who wants to help Hannah out. I’m not sure that he has thought this all the way through. Her family has some drama which will bring danger to Rupert . He needs to be very careful.

Loved the faith theme in the story and how the relationship between Rupert and Hannah grows. There is a bit of action and a marriage of convenience that I loved to follow. Two people who are strangers come together in this fast paced and emotional story.

I received a copy of this story from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

This inspiring story is set shortly after the end of the Civil War and finds Hannah Whitfield with a serious problem. She must marry a much older man, Henry McNeil, in order to hold on to property until her very young brother can claim it. But when she journeys to meet Henry and explain her need to marry him, she encounters a surprise that ends that hope. Enter Rupert McNeil who agrees to help her keep her property by marrying her in name only. However, one problem after another ensues, including a persistent man who will stop at nothing to claim her brother's legacy. This book has danger, humor, and love in a wholesome fiction read. Well done, Susan! I received an advance copy from the author with no promise of a positive review.

WOW! This book was so good and hard to put down. Hannah is a young Southern girl who is looking after her 6 year old brother who is in a wheelchair. A Union officer is pushing her to marry him. Her aunt writes a letter to the trustee of the Plantation but doesn't hear back from him so Hanna travels to Alabama with another family to speak to him herself. Unfortunately, she arrives on the day of his funeral. She meets Rupert who is now in charge of the Plantation. This story is one of a marriage of convenience but becomes quite exciting when this Union officer doesn't believe their story that they are married. Why is he really wanting this plantation? A book I recommend heartedly if you enjoy books that have lots of history to them.

I have enjoyed the books in this series. I liked how the author takes us to the end of the Civil War in the South and shows us some of the things that people were going through after the war. I liked how in this story it was a marriage of convenience between Rupert and Hannah but that it became more as they went through some trials. I also liked how they were a perfect compliment to each other and brought out the best in each other. I also liked seeing characters from the other books. I also thought the story was engaging and the story flowed well.

Redeeming Rupert by Susan Pope Sloan is a historical romance novel about a marriage of convenience that was formed to save land from being taken from the rightly owner. This is the fifth book in the series, but I think a reader would enjoy it without reading the others but once again I have to say why wouldn't you want to read them all to get whole entire story of these characters. This novel is written in both Hannah's and Rupert's POV. The ending wasn't as good as the start of the novel. This is a clean read.

This is the fifth book in Sloan’s Rescued Hearts of the Civil War series. I have not read the earlier books, but in checking out the synopses, at least two of them have some of the same characters as this book. I enjoyed the characters in Redeeming Rupert, so look forward to going back to read those earlier books.

The interactions between the characters are done well, and I wanted to know what happened to them all. I will definitely read more by this author.

This was the first read for me of this series and I really enjoyed the characters and the story. This story timeline is set just after the Civil war and the aftermath of everything at the time. Hannah has lost several members of her family and finds herself having to do what she must to take care of her younger, disabled brother. She must step up and ask a stranger to marry her in order to keep the Whitfield family legacy alive. Rupert is trying to build his family legacy when he meets Hannah. Redeeming Rupert was a truly enjoyable historical romance read!

It takes a lot for me to give a book five stars, but this one came close! The characters were likeable, the plot interesting, and I appreciate the fact that it was set just AFTER the civil war. The history is there, but it focus on a time of healing and recovery instead of being in the midst of upheaval. The end of the story left just enough untied ends to make me curious about the next book but not so many that the book doesn't stand on it's own. Perfect for someone who wants a series to read but doesn't want to be rushed through it!
