This is one of those manga series I've seen around for a while now, always thinking about maybe picking it up but never actually doing it. But now the first volume was on NetGalley and I finally took the chance. It was a perfectly fine start to a series, but also just nothing special and I don't think that I was really missing out. It's about Geo, a young girl who wants to leave her island and seek adventure but is not allowed to. But one day she meets a strange boy with no memory and soon after there are dramatic reveals about her past, and then she is able to leave her home after all. It doesn't sound too breathtaking when I write it out like that, and that's because it just really isn't. There are people with dragon tails and special powers that were somewhat cool, and the information about Geo's past was also interesting, but the story still didn't hook me. It was all a bit random and so far the characters really only been to one town where they help a random boy and get into (very) random fights. The art also wasn't my favorite, so I really have nothing that makes me want to continue here. At points I thought that this kinda reads like One Piece, which is of course a positive thing to say, but don't ever quote me on that. I didn't read enough of that endless series to actually know what I'm talking about.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

Galaxia es un manga prometedor que toma la chispa aventurera de One Piece con algo de inspiración en los poderes de tokyo ghoul. Aunque recién está comenzando, logra tener su propio estilo y te invita a sumergirte en una aventura llena de acción y misterio.

I thank Netgalley and the publisher for granting me an e-ARC of this manga.

Don't let my rating mislead you, because a 3 star review is a great rating, at least for me. It just means I needed a little bit more.

Let me explain myself.

This manga is funny and fantastical and the plot sounds promising. And it was. However, as everytime it happens to me whenever I pick up a manga volume, I needed a little more of everything. It intrinsically goes against the usual lenght for mangas.

That being said I will keep up with the series because the world building is very interesting and I want to know more about the characters journey. I really hope Geo cultivates her self-defense skills because that girl could unstoppable if she wants to.

Also, Nereid is very intriguing and I want to know what is his deal and why he wants to find Holst.

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for this manga.

It’s a pretty cute and simple shounen manga although it’s pretty much the same as any other generic shounen manga out there. Geo and Nereid are OTT and annoying af so that’s why I skimmed through the whole thing. It is completely forgettable but it’s ok to waste time on if you like your shounen….

Growing up in a backwater village does not suit Geo at all. She wants to go out and have adventures just like her hero Yuri Holst, unfortunately her father is firmly against it. One day, after another failed attempt at leaving the village, Geo fishes a young man out of the ocean! Everything about him is weird, he doesn't seem to even know how to be human correctly, but he soon explains to Geo that he doesn't. He woke up with no memories of his own and is traveling the world to figure out to be human again. Geo wishes she could go with him but she knows she'd upset her dad so after feeding the young man she has named Nereid she heads back home. On her way back however, she finds her father bleeding and under attack by a Dragon Knight who reveals that there is far more Geo than her father ever told her and she can't possibly stay still any longer!

I've got high hopes for this series after reading volume 1! Both characters know absolutely nothing about their pasts and are now on a high stakes adventure to find the one man who may be able to shed some light on who they really are. This first volume takes us to a town where we meet a young boy who desperately wants to bring change to his town while knowing that change may cost the people he cares about their livelihoods. Geo and Nereid find a solution that not only works for everyone but also gives everyone hope for the future. I loved that so much and I hope this theme continues throughout the story.

My favorite part has to be the Dragon Folk though, from what I saw here they appear to be nothing like any dragon race I have come across before. Their tails seem to be where their power is centered, and they can fuse them with other body parts to increase their power. They also seem to rule over the world but in a very loose manner. There is a Dragon Led government, but it appears that government relies on groups formed very haphazardly through battles to enforce laws. However, as there is no government oversight here it seems like Dragon Folk take advantage of this to enforce their own rules. I am really looking forward to seeing how that side of things progresses as there is definitely an implication that the Dragon Folk aren't necessarily the good guys.

I recommend this one for sure. It has a Fairy Tail like quality to it that I think will appeal to fans of that show in particular.

As always thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for the eArc!

I have received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Do you like One Piece? Do you wish you could read something that carries a similar spirit of adventure but isn't going to take you half a year to read? Look no further, because GALAXIAS is exactly what you want. It has a lot of elements reminiscent of beloved shounen series while being unique enough to stand on its own and not get boring.

Since we follow two protagonists who don't really know that much about the world, we can learn about it alongside them, which makes the worldbuilding really digestible. I'm very curious to learn more about the dragonfolk (the tail designs are so cool btw) and the way their society works. Both the world and the characters are positively unhinged and quirky but there are also wholesome moments.

The art in Galaxias is distinct and I really liked it. The action scenes are easy to follow and very dynamic.

I'm very curious to see where the story will go and meet some more characters. It's one I will follow for sure.

In Galaxias an intrepid girl living on a small, isolated island meets an amnesiac boy traveling the world; a perfect match made for friendship and adventures. This immediately gets complicated by making themselves enemies of the state. Looking together for a renowned adventurer and criminal, the two of them embark on a journey in a land where humans live together with dragon-tailed people with strange abilities.

This is a quick, fun and wholesome read and the art is consistently solid and allows the characters to have colourful expressions and engaging action frames. The magic system, simple on paper, offers a lot of creative interpretations (For example, a kangaroo-themed dragon-character cannot just store their young but also abstract concepts like strength.)
The world and main characters are interesting enough, but the first volume does not distinguish itself from other shōnen titles much yet. Hoping the next volumes can find more of an identity.

3.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for an ARC for an honest review.

I want to start by thanking NetGalley, Ao Hatesaka and Kodansha Comics for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review. GALAXIAS 1 will be out February 24, 2026!

What a fun story and such a strong cliff hanger. Hatesaka has written the story with such care and the inspirations are clear: One Piece, Gachiakuta and Hunter x Hunter. If you enjoy the adventure and initial premise of the Pirate King from OP, the art style of G and the search for the MC’s adventurer father like HxH, I think this might be the perfect manga for you.

Because this is only the first volume it’s hard to see what will distinguish it much from these previously mentioned beloved stories but it’s so refreshing to have a strong female lead in a story like this. It’s got a very fun, lighthearted and modern feel to it so eager to see where this might go. Overall, solid start but keen to see how it can set itself apart from the rest.

Uuuh, sehr cool!

**ARC provided by NetGalley for honest review**

GALAXIAS 1 by Ao Hatesaka is an adventure/mystery manga about a young girl who was raised on an island all her life, never allowed to leave until the day a strange newcomer arrives, and a secret about her past is revealed, which causes them to have to band together and go on the run to figure out the answers. I enjoyed this first volume; there are interesting characters and a perplexing world that has barely been explained, leaving the reader more and more curious about everything. There are great fights in here also, if you enjoy that dynamic, but it might turn out a bit episodic going forward as they travel to more cities, meet new characters, learn things about the world and their mission, fight different bad guys, etc. Fans of One Piece might enjoy this, but time will tell.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can totally see the One Piece x Fairy Tail vibes— The comedy is very reminiscent of both shows.
It seems like a fun manga so far!!

Very interested in the Dragon Knights. The tail aspect is kinda cool too. I can’t wait to see what other different abilities are out there.

Our MMC who can’t remember his name gives off very Luffy/Natsu energy and the FMC is very Nami coded in a way that she wants to explore the world.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty fun vol 1.
Nothing too plot heavy right now, def more on the lighter side for right now.

Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy of this manga for an honest review.

This is a really fun read, I love the character Geo she is adorable with a sassy attitude, she wants to become an adventurer & told by her father no until events happen that leads her on the jounrey she always wanted.

the friendship we see being formed between her and a fellow dragon folk us sweet but also entertaining, they bounce off each other in the book in every situation they get it.

highly suggest the read and will be continuing with this story as other volumes come out.

The artstyle grabbed my attention first, it's crisp and legible and the characters are varied to be easily distinguished from each other, even during action scenes. I went in mostly blind for the plot, and it's an interesting set-up! A world where the secrets have already been uncovered thanks to a famous explorer (as a note, the book says this and then contradicts itself by saying no-one knows the origin of the dragonfolk?) and one girl on an island who yearns to explore all the same.

It's a good opening volume, slightly episodic which makes sense given the exploration/search needed, and I enjoyed the dynamic between the characters.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!

ARC provided by NetGalley

This is the start of an adventure maga series. It's about a girl who wants to explore the world and she meets a mysterious amnesic boy. They team up and start adventuring, visiting different places. It reminded me of One piece for the adventure aspect.

The magic comes into place as these dragon like tails that only some people have. Their origins are mysterious too so they will play an important part in the future.

The action is a bit murky sometimes because of the tails but otherwise the artsyle is very clean with bold strokes.

Overall, a nice start of an adventure manga
