Can you fall in love in thirteen hours?

It's her birthday but lonely workaholic Dana Watts is at the office late, drafting a proposal. The very last interruption she expects comes in the form of the most beautiful breasts she has ever seen. These belong to an incredibly hot woman, who is standing in front of her, stripping to music.

Laurel Stanley performs strip-o-grams to pay her way through school. She has never encountered a more ungrateful recipient than Dana. The uptight project manager makes it clear that she is furious to be distracted from her work by the gift a colleague sent and equally appalled by Laurel's occupation.

After Dana is rude and insulting, and insists on escorting Laurel from the building, the two women take an elevator ride that changes everything. Stuck with each other for thirteen long hours after the elevator breaks down, they discover how wrong first impressions can be and how right two strangers can feel together.

Can everything change in less than a day? Dana and Laurel set out to discover if their passionate elevator encounter can mean more in this fast-paced, erotic story of lust, loneliness, fantasy, and desire.

3.5 Stars. For my Fallback Friday book I decided to go with Meghan O’Brien’s 2008 book Thirteen Hours. I’m a big O’Brien fan. I would put her in my top ten favorite lesfic authors. I have read most of her full length books except for a few older ones so I thought this was the perfect chance to cross another off the list. I did like this read but I do have to admit it is one of my least favorites by her.

If you have not read this book before it is about an exotic dancer and an uptight businesswomen who get locked in an elevator for 13 hours. It was a cute concept and I love the cover on my paperback, but the story didn’t hold my attention to well. It’s a nice erotic romance but there was not enough plot points to really suck me into the story.

When it comes to this being an older book, I think that is part of my problem. It’s not that the book seemed dated being over a decade old. Really only a few times did they talk about computers and email that had me chuckling. The problem was this book didn’t hold up as well compared to O’Brien’s newer books. We all know O’Brien is the queen of sex scenes, but compared to the heat of The Sex Therapist New Door, this book couldn’t compete. Compared to the storyline of Battle Scars or Wild, this book couldn’t compete. I think if I had read this book, years ago, I would have loved it. But now I know how great her books can be that this book just doesn’t hold up as well.

If you are looking for a hot and steamy romance with no angst, you might enjoy this. It was a good read just not nearly as great as O’Brien’s other books are.

It took me ages to read this, only because it couldn't be read in public!! It's definitely more erotica than romance but still well done and well written.

Don’t read this in public! One too many steamy scenes; from the elevator, office and bedroom of course! Plot is pretty thin. So if you want to read steamy scenes with light plot then give this book a go. Otherwise stay away.....

If you asked me what my favorite lesbian erotica is this one is No.1. Its like Meghan O’Brien creeps into my head when she writes her novels and that’s why she’s one of my favorite authors in erotica.

Thirteen Hours centers around the lives of two very different women, Dana and Laurel. Dana is workaholic with no social life. She is hiding so far back in the closet she’s almost in Narnia. Laurel is confident and very open about her sexuality. She works as a stripper while she’s in Veterinary school and is hired by Dana’s close work colleague to give her a private dance for her birthday at the office while she’s working late.

It couldn’t go more wrong and while Dana is angrily escorting Laurel from the building they get trapped together in the elevator over night. Can one woman change you life in just thirteen hours?

I’m going to be really honest and say I read this novel quite few months ago and never got round to reviewing it and at the time thought it was good but wasn’t great. I am now eating my words and wondering where my head was at because I’ve just reread to review and I actually really liked it. A lot actually!

To start with both the characters are so loveable… Maybe not Dana in first few chapters but by the end she had surpassed my expectations. This book shows how a in first time relationships (and new relationships to) you have to learn from each other what works and both these woman learn the art of love together in a very heart felt way.

Don’t get me wrong the main thing in this book that got my heart racing was the sex scenes. My mouth is still agape from the first time I read the book and I wasn’t wrong in that instance because oh my it’s HOT! I can’t even give you my favorites because they are all so well written and left my imagination running. What also struck me was the genuine love before after and during each of these scenes. It was nice to see them bring down the barriers and show the vulnerability and trust when sharing fantasies.

This is straight up lesbian erotica in a full novel format so don't come to this book expecting a romance...at least not the kind that is typical of this genre. You won't find the leads taking the entire book to get together but they also don't do so on the first page, either.

There's a little set up, giving us several chapters of conversation between the characters before any physical connection comes into play but then the rest is sex with an overall ratio of sex to romance in the book being about 80/20.

I just want to give a warning to those expecting a romance and then are disappointed...though, a book cover with a woman's ass on it is a pretty big clue as to the content. lol

And, as erotica goes, this is about as perfect as it gets...well-written scenes, enough character to be invested, enough diversity to keep it interesting, sensuality, intimacy, some power-play and fantasy, etc.

There's really healthy sex positive representation here.

Well done. Highly Recommend.

“We need to set up a time to meet so I can return the money you paid me. Yeah, I’m sure. I don’t want to feel like I got paid for what I’m doing to Dana right now.”

It's her birthday and Dana Watts is writing a proposal late in her office. She's a workaholic but she also hides her true nature, even from herself. She doesn't count on one of her co-workers to hire a striper to give her a lap dance. The absolutely sexy Laurel strips to pay for her vet school and, after a awful attempt to make Dana feel better they got stuck in a elevator for thirteen hours. Laurel is beautiful, funny and intelligent. She's a person full of surprises that Dana wasn't expecting in her life. Will Dana surrender and have a taste of what she always craved? Can they fall in love in Thirteen hours?

description

I picked up TH because it seemed like a fun sexy reading and guess what? It was.

I enjoyed those hours in the elevator, they were funny and hot and you could see how could it be in the future. I really liked Laurel. I think I liked her the most. She was so easygoing and really smart and sexy. I'm down for thirteen hours with her in a small place anytime.
I liked that she wasn't ashamed or anything like that because she danced and her background was enough to make me want to learn more and more of her so yeah, she was very likeable.
description

And then we got Dana. Dana was a litlle hard to like at the beginning but then she was fine to me. The thing is, after they got out the elevator, the story didn't make me like her like I did with Laurel. I mean, I did get everything they were doing and and she was so much fun and very sexy but still. I didn't love her that much.
description

I still don't know what to think about the chapters after the elevator incident. I liked them, like really liked them but there's something bothering me. I can't put my finger on it, though.

Anyhow, the sex was great to me. It was sweet and hot and rough and I liked that they were trusting in each other and trying to be in the relationship and Laurel's fantasies helped on that a lot.

I think that my favorite part was the first fantasy. Dana really did a great job and I had a lot of fun reading it.

I want to read more books by Meghan.

Okay after reading some of the reviews I was hesitant to purchase the book. I am so glad that I did because the reviews were unfounded to me. Okay there is a lot of sex in this book so if that's a make or break for you don't read the book. I disagree with the reviewers who said there is no character development. I think O'Brien does a great job showing us who Laurel and Dana are. I think it's a really fast paced relationship, but that truly happens in the lesbian community. I think the sexual relationship is the foundation for this book, but I truly didn't have a problem with that lol. The sex scenes are fire in this book and I truly enjoyed it. I think the message of this book is about Dana's journey in finding herself and opening herself up not just to Laurel, but to the world. It seems that Dana is a wonderful person that many would be lucky to know, but it took her find Laurel in order to see that for herself. Laurel, like many of, is looking to "the one" and she finds that in Dana. O'Brien also shows the insecurities we often feel in new relationships. She shows how, with communication, a couple can give voice to those insecurities and move past them. So what you have are some very important life lessons taught in between some very delicious sex scenes...sounds like life to me lol.

If a friend asked me for a well-written, purely erotic lesbian romance, I'd go into my gay bag of tricks and reveal this pretty little tale. The premise is what sexy dreams are made of. A sexually-repressed lesbian stuck in an elevator with the hottest company. Their truth-or-dare sessions fulfilled all my wishes.

My heart goes for Laurel. She's attractive beyond the obviously sensual reasons. She deserved all the love possible.

My heart even fluttered at the end. Erotica done properly.

Best PWP book I've ever read. Kudos to this author, for writing a story focused on two women having sex like normal people: in bed, in the tub, inside the elevator. I’m so tired of sugary courtships in my lesfic!

Don’t read Thirteen Hours if you are easily offended. You will find women exploring their fantasies, dirty talk, light BDSM and anal play, among other things. Apparently some readers were expecting cupcake recipes, but the blurb is very clear: this is an erotic story.

In other words…

Best quotes:

“Honey, we’re having sex, not performing a religious ceremony,” Laurel said. “It’s supposed to be fun. I like tender, but making love doesn’t always have to be romantic and slow and mushy.”

“I want you to spank me, talk dirty to me. I want you to take control. Hold me down on the bed.”

Funny, but when Dana slept, Laurel missed her.

Ooh, but this was good!

Today is Dana's birthday and she is working alone in her office on Friday night, as she does most weeks.

Laurel is a few months from finishing her veterinary science degree. While studying, she has supplemented her income by working as an exotic dancer in a club. She also occasionally takes gigs as a stripper, always for female clients.

When Laurel surprises Dana in her office, Dana is embarrassed and outraged and calls an immediate halt to Laurel's performance. She then insists on escorting her out of the building. The elevator to the lobby barely starts its descent when the power in the building goes out, leaving the women stranded in the elevator until the cleaning staff arrive on Saturday morning.

This was a great read. Dana starts out exhibiting anger and hostility toward Laurel. When it's obvious they are trapped in close quarters for an extended period, they start to talk, and Dana's walls come down. She realises there is more to Laurel than first meets her eye. Talking leads to flirting - Dana has never been intimate with a woman, but she has long fantasised - and so much more, and when the women are eventually freed, they leave the building with plans to go on an actual date the following night.

Thirteen Hours follows them after that first night through the first year of their growing relationship, through lust into respect and admiration and on to love. Laurel and Dana are strong, likeable women whose intimate moments are plentiful, passionate and melt-your-kindle hot.

I've been putting off on reading this book because of the title - I thought the entire story takes place over thirteen hours and I was sure that the character development needed for a romance couldn't be achieved in such a short period. I was quite wrong about the book. A confused geeky woman meets a stripper and circumstances force them to spend thirteen hours together. What happens next actually forms the crux of the story. This unlikely couple actually work well together. There's a whole lot of erotica in the story but it's quite nicely done without going overboard. Those who love angst-free romance erotica will enjoy this book.

Do I need to say that this was a very hot!!! book? I think anyone who is familiar with Meghan O'Brien knows that her books are always sizzling hot. Meghan O'Brien knows how to write about sex. Yet despite the many sex scenes there was more than just sex. The characters were fun and the story was interesting. Since I normally only read lesbian romance, this is as steamy as it gets. On the book cover is says Erotic Romance, I think that sums it up, quite well. So if you're looking for something a bit sexier than your're normal romance book, this is a great start.

Seriously HOT!!!

Dana is a workaholic who finds herself in the company of Laurel that a colleague has paid to dance for her as a gift on her birthday. The following thirteen hours after they first meet will literally change both of their lives, and their perspectives as they embark on a journey of attraction, lust, and mutual understanding in all may not be as it seems. They also learn a lot about trust, and for Dana letting down those strong defences that give her an ice queen edge.

This was an interesting concept for a novel, and had an interesting take on using time to convey the story and explore a relationship initially built on an attraction between the characters. It is the plot that really makes this story interesting because it tests the characters’ patience and trust in others. I adored the way that Meghan managed to keep this erotic but also sensual and emotional. It was a delicate balance and she got it spot on.

Most of the story is erotic and the way the scenes are portrayed are extremely tasteful, and a lot of fun. If you love erotica, this will tick many boxes for you while Dana and Laurel not only discover truths about themselves, but about one another. With Dana letting her guard down and trusting Laurel, they explore many desires and fantasies. It was that connection between them though that made this story. Dana really let herself go, supported by Laurel in every way and finally found some reasons to fully enjoy life rather than being solely focused on her career. It really tapped into Dana’s thought processes and emotions, exposing her vulnerabilities more so than Laurel’s, who was confident but elusive, and this was explored in a very sensual and careful way, to portray an important message about trusting others, but still being careful with your thoughts and feelings.

I really enjoyed this and definitely recommend it any lover of erotica. That touch of romance also makes this a great story if you like your romance with a particularly sexy edge.

Turned out to be an erotica. I knew I should have paid more attention to the cover. There was no plot at all. The conflict was only found on the first few chapters, then everything turned out to be Happy ever after, with tons and tons of sex. I didn't get most of it. (90% of it).

I started reading lesbian romance a few weeks ago due to the recomm of a friend. She said Radclyffe was a good read. And it really was. The first series I've read(honor series) was really well written, the plot was awesome, you need to read them chronologically to better understand the inner turmoil of each character, and it's really empowering to read about strong women. After finishing it I browsed for other authors to see what i can find.

this book isn't for me. No plot, no conflict. The only good thing that came out of this purchase is that now I have a bday present for my bestfriend.

This was fun, light reading. It deserves 4 stars because it's about women! It doesn't suck! The women have dirty, unapologetic sex while not boring the reader to tear. Sure, the premise is such an overdone trope as to become a cliche. Sure the reactions of the characters seem out of all proportion at the beginning. But I actually liked Laurel's character and this was simply lesbian romantic erotica. It really succeeded in that category.

If you want meaningful character development, angst, etc., go elsewhere. If you want hot sex and a bit of romance between f/f characters that does NOT cater to a 'Victorian' sensibility, read this.

I just finished the story, wow, definitely lots of sex (fullfilling all kind of fantasies). I really liked the story when they were stuck in the elevator. The after-elevator story has too much (kind of aggressive hot and steamy) sex and too little plot for me. I would have loved to hear more about their after-elevator life and how their relationship develops on a normal level. I still give it 4 stars, it was quite entertaining ;)

3.5 stars rounded upto 4 stars

I have only read one book from this author which was Battle Scars way back in 2009 and loved it. I have been avoiding reading her other work as I know she writes some BDSM into some of her books but thought I would chance reading one and see if I liked it. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong book to read.

I was enjoying the book upto the chapter entitled 'The Rough' and then it was downhill from there for me. Even though it was a fantasy being played out and all was consensual (whether fictional or not) being called a Slut and a Whore is not really enjoyable reading for me and so I skipped over some of this chapter and all sex scenes after this.

Even though I didn't like much of the last 30% of the book it was well written and I liked both main characters of Laurel and Dana.

I was hoping to read The Sex Therapist Next Door but not sure whether or not to chance it. Maybe I will read it in ten years time lol

Whoa! This book melted me! I found it to be so sensuous, romantic and definitely hot. I was hesitant to even get this book because of other reviewers’ comments on so much sex and a little BDSM. However, the way the story unfolded so naturally, together with how much they loved each other made it all feel so natural. Yes, I think I got tired of how often the dildo was present, but the love and joy made it less tiresome. I think there was just one chapter that I couldn’t wait to get through.

I listened to the audiobook straight through, absolutely loving it. The narrator was Alicyn Aimes. Her voice and the way she so wonderfully told the story is why good narrators can make or break an audiobook. Her voice reminded me of Katie Couric, the news person. I checked and believe this is the only lesbian book she has narrated. The others were hetero romance.

I actually really liked the second half of this--the BDSM elements included a lot of clear communication and consent--but Dana is so despicable in the first chapter that I just couldn't forgive her. She is over-the-top insulting of Laurel for being a stripper, and there's a lot of loathing of sex workers in this book, even from Laurel. Laurel is stripping to get through school and because her mom has cancer. Even though she defends full-time strippers, she later quits to make Dana happy, and also is insulted that anyone would think of her as a sex worker, because that's clearly below her. Disappointing.

Free-spirited stripper (Laurel Stanley) and an uptight project manager (Dana Watts) are the protagonists of this one by Meghan O’Brien who writes more erotic romance than romance.

Dana’s friend Scott gives her a lap dance by a stripper in her office as a birthday gift. The gift goes wrong immediately as Dana reacts badly. She escorts the stripper out and they get stuck in a jammed elevator for – you guessed it – thirteen hours. A life-changing thirteen hours for both of them.

Enjoyed this book at a piece of erotica - the initial plotting was intriguing, but when the sex took over, the story became a vehicle for the incredibly hot scenes that followed. I'm not complaining ( hence the high rating) I have subsequently read others of her books that have more successfully combined the elements.

Meghan O'Brien is a wonderful, steamy author that I adore.
The books I've read of hers are enjoyable. This contained little angst, normal relationship growth.
I had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep this morning when I only had three chapters left.
The chemistry is brilliant and shines off the page.
I loved the interactions between the MCs. They were very little in secondary characters, but they weren't necessary.
I hope for more books in the future.

Well, well. This book gets first place in the category "Dirtiest Literature" in my reading history.
The cover of the book says that the story is slightly erotic. However, you realize with each page that the book promises so much more. And that "so much more" also has to do with the sexual things, too.
Kudos to "13 Hours" for the excessive detail of the wlw bed scene. Maybe for now I'm more aware of lesbian's sex life, rather than straight couple.
In this bold kinky book we've got more than 10 hot scenes I guess. But in 5th I got tired. However I appreciate author's bold fantasies

This was my first read ever from Meghan O’Brien. I have reread this a few times over the years and it was an introduction to light BDSM, role-play, and so much more. After reading the blurb and maybe reading the beginning, the book might not seem too special. It does pick up and becomes much much more.

I enjoyed seeing Dana and Laurel’s relationship progress from start to the end. The beginning was nice because of the forced proximity and there are quite a few fast-forwards in the book that make the romance feel believable in the time frame.

TW: light BDSM

Very h-o-t read that never gets old.
➢Happy reading!

After enjoying "Battle Scars" by Meghan O'Brien (albeit it was a bit slow) I thought I'd give this one a try even though the basis of it was questionable. Needless to say, it had barely any plot to it and was probably 75% smut. I couldn't even complete it, skimmed through and that was enough for me. Not recommended.
