Holiday Cheer Meter: 3/5
(Where 1 is as Christmassy as 'Die Hard' and 5 is more like 'Elf')
1st person, past tense, dual POV
Luke Yang (late 20's), former child actor/baker
André (30), former boy band member/musical theatre actor
I adored Charlie's writing so you'd better believe I dropped almost everything to read her new Christmas novella.
I think this was my first friend's ex-fake boyfriend, usually those work out in the romance world, lol, so it was a nice touch.
I'll be honest, there are a lot of cameos in this book so if you aren't familiar with Charlie's entire backlist you might feel like you're out of the loop when people are mentioned as if you should know who they are. In particular, I recognized the happy couple about to get married, Kane and Austin, from her Heather Bay series, and this book feels very much like a follow-up to their story, but it looks like that is actually coming out in April of 2025.
This was a quick burn, simple, light, fluffy missed connection romance where you are rooting for the couple along with all their friends because their connection is so evident. Both Luke and André share a similar quick rise to fame in their youth and are real workaholics at present. I enjoyed the explosive chemistry as they come together early on but also the deliberate way they shift their mindset to make room for one another in their respective lives without giving up on their goals and dreams. Their respect and admiration is what makes the reader believe they have what it takes to go the distance.
I enjoyed it but it was a smidge long for such an easy story with no real angst or conflict. I didn't mind so much because their chemistry was so scorching hot and I was having a fun time with them and all the secondary characters.
