I received a free copy of, Starting Over in Starshine Cove, by Debbie Johnson, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Connie Llewelyn is as dependable as they come, she owns a business in her town, has been alone since her husband died 5 years ago, and her kids are all grown up. Connie needs a change, and this is the perfect time for it. This was a lighthearted read, I enjoyed it.

Starting Over in Starshine Cove by Debbie Johnson is a heartwarming tale of love, loss, and rediscovery set against the enchanting backdrop of a picturesque seaside village. As the fourth installment in the Starshine Cove series, this novel continues to deliver the magical charm, emotional depth, and engaging storytelling that fans have come to adore.

Connie Llewelyn, a former celebrity chef turned local café owner, is at the center of this story. Once a high-flying culinary star, Connie’s life took a dramatic turn when she traded the chaos of London for the tranquility of Starshine Cove after meeting her soulmate, Simon. But life hasn't been easy—now in her fifties and a widow raising three grown children, Connie finds herself grappling with grief, self-doubt, and the daunting prospect of what lies ahead.

The narrative cleverly oscillates between Connie's glamorous and reckless past and her more grounded present, showing how life’s twists and turns have shaped her journey. Johnson beautifully portrays the healing power of Starshine Cove—a haven of natural beauty and close-knit community where second chances seem to bloom.

The arrival of Zack Harris, a charming TV producer from Connie’s past, throws her into an emotional whirlwind. Zack offers not only the possibility of love but also the chance to rediscover herself beyond her roles as a mother, widow, and café owner. Their budding romance is both tender and realistic, filled with moments of humor, hesitation, and heartfelt revelations.

What makes this book shine is its relatability. Connie’s struggles and triumphs are universal, especially for readers navigating life’s uncertainties and reinvention in their later years. Themes of self-worth, aging, and embracing the present resonate deeply, making this more than just a romance—it's a life-affirming exploration of growth and resilience.

Johnson’s vivid descriptions of Starshine Cove make you long to visit its idyllic beaches and cozy cafés. The supporting characters, from Connie’s wise and witty friends to her children, enrich the story, adding layers of warmth and humor.

While there are moments of heartache and tension, the overall tone remains uplifting. The emotional climax is as satisfying as the smell of freshly baked scones in Connie’s café—a reminder that love and joy can find us when we least expect them.

In Starting Over in Starshine Cove, Debbie Johnson offers a touching and hopeful tale that will make you laugh, cry, and reflect on the importance of living fully. It’s a story that celebrates the beauty of second chances, the strength of community, and the courage to embrace new beginnings. A must-read for fans of the series and newcomers alike.

This was heartwarming and fun, with relatable characters and a witty writing style. I haven't read the other books in the series but I didn't feel like I was lost reading this as a standalone. I enjoyed the pace of the book and how it sprinkled in each of Connie and Zack's past to give us an idea about their characters and how they got to where they are. This books gives proof to second chances and allowing to give them to yourself and is a perfect book for fans of fun contemporary romances. Add this one to your list!

Starting Over In Starshine Cove features Connie Llewellyn, the life force of the thriving seaside community. Connie is no stranger to loss and heartbreak but is currently struggling with the double whammy of menopause and an empty nest. Trying to make sense of her new life, Connie unexpectedly reconnects with an acquaintance from her past and new opportunities unfold - but will she take them?

I really enjoyed this book, I found it very humourous and very relatable (to be fair I am a similar age to Connie) and loved all the 80's/90's references. This is book four in the Starshine Cove series, but as each book focuses on a different character, it's easily read as a standalone. This engaging read is set in a fictional seaside village on the Dorset coast, and packed with fun, realistic characters. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy warm contemporary fiction with a dash of romance and reality.

Thank you Storm Publishing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I'm such a huge fan of this series by Debbie Johnson and I was over the moon to be able to read an advanced copy of the latest book. This one, just like the others can be read as a standalone, but I'd heartily recommend reading the previous books. We get a little catch up with some of the fabulous characters that we have met before, but this story is mainly about Connie. I absolutely loved learning about her life before she ended up in Starshine Cove, a magical place that nobody seems to want to leave. I felt I could relate to Connie & lots of aspects of her life & I'm sure lots of ladies of a certain age will too. As with other books by this author, she never shies away from tricky or difficult topics and always writes with knowledge, depth and warmth.

Starting Over in Starshine Cove by Debbie Johnson is filled with all the wonderful elements we have come to know and love in the previous three books of the series. This fictional place on the Dorset Coast is magical in its ability to heal hearts. We would all like to escape to such a haven from time to time: a place of natural beauty and caring community with intriguing residents. The novel is filled with wonderful moments of laughter, wit and winsome humour: refreshing as a rising sea-breeze. Here characters learn to live again, take a deep breath, wander on the beaches and work through their plight. In this special community, like in real life, there is also sadness, loss, fear and grief but passion always runs at its core. Positive and negative experiences litter the pathways but hope is like a neon sign in this emotional landscape. In fact, if you could set up a sign on the road to Starshine Cove, it would say: Enter Here for Second Chances.

Connie runs the local bakery. She was an important chef in the past. She lived a pretty dangerous and reckless existence. A party girl of the highest order. But then life took her on a detour and she ended up at Starshine Cove. We are taken back to her life before to see who she was then and all the issues she had. But on an escape she crashes her car and meets the man of her dreams, Simon, and he ends up becoming her husband and the father of her children. During this time she matures; taking on a whole new dialogue and direction. And for a heavenly season, she reaps all the joy and love imaginable. Until something drastic happens that turns her world upside down. A loss that seems impossible to recover from.

I coasted easily through the first three quarters of the story until the last quarter when it truly gripped my heart hard. Connie, now in her fifties, is faced with an old acquaintance and romantic feelings stir. A part she thought was dead. Just when she begins to sail with her once locked up emotions, reality hits again. But I cannot say what happens without giving away a plot twist. I will admit, though, the shocking news is a hard pill to swallow—considering all she has been through. But I have to declare Debbie Johnson does an amazing job delivering the verdict and outcome.

If I could shout from the rooftops one major message that runs through the heart of this story, it would be the wise words of Connie’s friend Ella. No one can predict the future or know how much time we will have with those we love. So take every opportunity available now. Live for today. Tomorrow will come soon enough with its unpredictability, heartaches and loss. Get past any fears, hesitation, conflicts or differences. Take advantage of those precious moments that exist in front of you. In Connie’s life, she met the man of her dreams unexpectedly and she was blessed with many happy years, but he was suddenly taken away. Yet as sad as that was, life did not have to end for her—as her father-in-law, kept reminding her. When she allowed herself to live again, another surprise came along, much later in her life. She was presented with a second chance to reopen the door of her heart.

This novel is essentially a love story: full of hope, light and positive vibes and a message that resounds through the ages to live for today. Stop fretting about trivial things. Enjoy what time and love you have been given. There might be a whole new world on the horizon! I enjoyed Starting Over in Starshine Cove and particularly loved the lead up to the ending. Powerful truths swept over my heart like the waves on a shoreline. It reminded me there is starlight even in the dark spaces of life like the glittering caves in Starlight Cove! That we often find beauty and love in some unusual places and sometimes in the arms of those who may come our way. And like Connie, we can start a new chapter in life and move forward. 4 Solid Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One Liner: Sweet and cute

Connie Llewelyn was a successful and ambitious but unhappy Michelin-star chef in London. A random restless drive took her to Starshine Cove and changed her life forever.

Twenty-five years later, Connie is warm, loving, and the go-to person in the magical town. However, she is trying hard to stay positive after her husband’s death five years ago and her children leaving home for studies.

A face from the past enters her life unexpectedly and soon steps into her world in the town. Connie is torn about meeting Zack again but can’t deny the attraction. Will she get a second chance at love?

The story comes in Connie’s first-person POV in the present tense.

My Thoughts:

The FMC has played a moderate to crucial role in all the previous books. Now, it’s her turn to find some love.

As the fourth book in the series, this can work as a standalone but will have spoilers for the couples from previous books. Reading at least one of those will give you a better idea of Connie’s character.

The book starts in the past, providing us with a quick rundown of Connie’s past and how she arrived at Starshine Cove. This gives a comparison between her past and present and shows how she has changed (but retained some of her core traits).

Set in spring, we get some lovely descriptions of the town’s beauty in the season. As always, the community vibe is strong with people supporting and helping each other.

The teens and new adults are quirky, silly, fun, and loveable. They add much lightness to the plot and are adorable even when annoying their elders.

Being a small book (250+ pages), the story moves fast. This is still okay as the couple has a teeny history and spends some time together as friends in the present.

I like the discussions about mourning spouses, moving on, putting children first, and the changes that happen over time. Also, things are kept a bit realistic about age-related aspects (menopause, weak bladder, body pains, etc.).

There’s some angst and lack of communication but I like how it’s dealt with. The FMC’s arc pulls it off, and the reveal presents another dilemma. It’s age-appropriate for them (or so I felt). There’s a happy ending, of course.

To summarize, Starting Over in Starshine Cove is a heartwarming story about finding love again and being hopeful about the uncertain future.

Thank you, NetGalley and Storm Publishing, for eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Starting Over in Starshine Cove was unexpectedly uplifting and delightful. The story begins looking five years into the past. Connie has just met Simon and her somewhat decadent fast-paced life among the rich and famous seems totally unimportant now. They fall in love, they get married and they make a life together in his hometown of Starshine Cove, a magical, beautiful, idyllic seaside village. The story could have ended right there: love from a wonderful man, more love than she could ever have imagined, then wonderful children, and a life full of friends and business and contentment. Perfect, happy ever after, the end. Except – that happy ever after doesn’t always show up when or where you want it to. Sometimes the reality of life steps in.

I almost stopped reading at this point. I just didn’t feel like watching Connie suffer through the rest of the book, the rest of her life, wondering what-if, replaying all her regrets in her head, enjoying life but never recapturing that feeling of endless love and contentment. But author Debbie Johnson had something entirely different in mind for all those pages. And it was inspirational and sweet and touching and totally satisfying. I am so happy I kept turning just one more page until I was so engrossed you couldn’t have pried the book out of my hands.

Yes, Connie still misses Simon when the present-day portion of the story begins. He was truly the love of her life and that doesn’t come around twice. She has those wonderful, happy children, almost all grown up now, many, many friends and her café where her creative heart can bloom. But that “the love of your life doesn’t happen twice” thing? What if that’s not exactly true? What if the exact same thing doesn’t happen twice, but that wonderful warm feeling you remember starts to glide over you again just the same?

Zack was not really a what-if from Connie’s past life, but more of a hmm-interesting-I-wonder presence in her life. She was attracted to him, but nothing ever happened and after she met Simon there wasn’t much room in her head for thoughts of the old days. There still isn’t, in fact, except that it so happens Connie’s daughter and Zack’s daughter are good friends and about to be roommates and once Connie and Zack meet again little tingles start to happen, things feel somehow familiar and they spend more and more time together. There are unknown secrets that might put on the brakes before anything can grow between them, and there is the fact that they both were actually married to loves of their lives. There’s something happening though and it seems to be proceeding at its own pace, not theirs.

Starting Over in Starshine Cove is a sweet, touching story about two people who met and parted, who have lived satisfying lives, survived unimaginable tragedy and loneliness and have now discovered some sort of kinship between them. These are not romantic youngsters with wide-eyes and innocent hearts, but author Johnson manages to insert a lot of romance, starry eyes, and innocent hearts between Zack and Connie, nevertheless. Watching a mature relationship develop between people who know and appreciate what they once had and are brave enough to step forward towards what they might have again is heartwarming, and he adult desire Johnson puts in there doesn’t hurt either.

This was my first introduction to the Starshine Cove series but I will be catching up. It was well-written with fascinating characters, a beautiful setting and enough romance to keep you warm at night. I received an advance copy of this book from Storm Publishing via NetGalley. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

None of us knows what tomorrow may bring.

That was the big takeaway from this one. The characters were interesting and though I wasn't particularly drawn to Connie as the book opened, I definitely warmed up to her quickly. While it's true that none of us know what will happen tomorrow, good or bad, it's lure is the possibilities. Connie has made a life for herself in Starshine Cove after the tragic death of her beloved husband while raising the children to be strong and go out on their own. It's when one of them brings home a new BFF from college that Connie's life takes another turn. That new BFF's father just happens to be the very man who once offered Connie a chance at the fast paced celebrity life she'd been obsessed with despite feelings of emptiness. Zack brings possibilities, in other words. The question is, will she open herself up to them.

I won't detail the plot, the blurb does an excellent job, but will say that I liked the characters and was rooting for them. Heck, even Connie's doctor/friend had words of wisdom to offer, both medical and emotional. That should give you a hint as to a twist in the road to happily ever after. Yes, the story is full of genuine friendship, humor, and the usual fears we all face as we age and face changes. The change in Connie from the opening prologue throughout the book is impressive, showing the potential that has been there all along. All the feels are there, that's for sure, especially the emotional tendency to erect barriers/borders to protect out own emotions. Change can be both tempting and threatening, let's just say. How Connie works her way to opening herself to love manages to make you occasionally want to laugh and cry at the same time, odd as that sounds. Isn't human nature amazing? Zack is a dear and you're definitely going to like him as well ans the extended families. It's good to see family support, which isn't always a given in such books.

Bottom line, I wound up liking this one more than expected. I have read Johnson in the past and enjoyed them but didn't think I was quite in the mood for a sweet romance. Shows how much I know, huh? The setting in Starshine Cove sounds lovely and Connie's place in it an inspiration. My thanks to #StormPublishing for reminding me with this early peek how much I have always enjoyed Debbie Johnson's books. I will definitely be on the look out for the next ones.

This is my second book by Debbie Johnson. I enjoyed my first book of hers, that I didn't even bother reading the book blurb. I just requested it on the spot. I was hit with a lot of emotions in this book, I wish now that I would have read the book blurb, so I was more prepared. But that was on me. I have suffered huge losses in my own life, so I wasn't prepared to get so smacked in the face with it.

Now, this is going to have a few spoilers, I do not normally do that because I hate taking any surprises away from the book but there are a few things about this book that I feel I need to mention. I wish that the beginning wasn't so fast in that we actually got more time to actually feel like we know Simon. It makes the connection a lot better if we can grieve with the main character but in this, even though I felt terrible for her loss, the connection wasn't there for me. It just made my own losses hurt worse.

I'll be honest, I put this book down for a week because I wasn't sure that I actually wanted to finish it. However, I like to give every book/author a chance, so I kept reading. It did help a lot when the story plot moved on towards the next relationship. But then kind of stalled again when you find out the issues that her new love interest has.

Then I feel like after that weird kind of 'stop' that we then speed off into the universe with a very fast and then it's six months later and here we are at this point. It felt very rushed, and I was left feeling like I had missed out on some of the best parts of the new romance. I honestly felt rather cheated.

However, I am glad that I finished it. And I will happily read her other books, but I am not sure that I would return to this series, per say. Honestly, I still feel like I am going around the emotional merry go round and I am not sure that's a feeling that I would willing go back to.

All in all, she's a great writer and I really did enjoy the happy parts.

Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and to Debbie Johnson for the ability to read and review this book. All opinions are completely honest and are my own.

When Connie crashed into Starshine Cove, she abandoned her flashy life for a quiet one with no regrets. Fast forward 25 years, and she finds her past and present colliding in a deliciously confusing way.

On this return to Starshine Cove, we finally got Connie's story. She was an expert meddler in the other books, and now it was her turn to find love again. I really enjoyed getting to know more about her backstory and what brought her to Starshine Cove, but I LOVED seeing Zack and her fall for each other.

First of all, can we have a round of applause for a "mature" romance. That's right. Both characters were empty nesters who was in their mid 50s. I will never stop being a fan of romances that show people finding love at ALL ages. Zach and Connie shared a bit of a past which was an interesting facet of their story that I think allowed their romance to proceed at a good clip, but I also believe their shared experience of being widowers gave them so much insight into each other. There was definitely a spark that rose to a flame between their two, and it was fantastic seeing it grow.

As with all the previous installments in this series, the people of Starshine Cove were a highlight. This little community continues to be warm and welcoming and serves as a place of healing to those lucky enough to find their way there. It was great catching up with the previous couples while also seeing new romances bloom.

Overall, this was another feel-good visit to Starshine Cove that left me with a big smile on my face.

This is a good old fashioned, second chance love story, part of a great series with wonderful, really likeable characters and can be read totally as a standalone.
Connie Llewellyn had been a celebrity, Micheline stared chef, droves of followers, TV, the lot but when the chance came to do a reality TV series Connie realised that life in the fast lane had become too much, she drove out of London heading south and ended up in a ditch at Starshine Cove.........her life was to change forever.
Connie married Simon, the gorgeous good Samaritan who rescued her from her wrecked car, had three children and a wonderful life until sadly Simon was killed in a car accident.
Connie was the cornerstone of the small Starshine Cove community, she ran the local cafe and arranged community events, always the life and soul of the party but Connie had "empty nest syndrome", her children had all left home but Simon had never left her heart and although she was encouraged by both her children and her friends, Connie could never consider re entering the dating scene.
Sophie, Connie's youngest daughter was coming home from catering collage and bringing her BFF, Marcy with her, they were to help at the cafe during the summer holiday. Marcy's father, a widower had asked to meet Connie before this happened, Connie was astounded to find that Marcy's father just happened to be a famous TV producer, the same producer who Connie had left in the lurch.
This story follows Connie and Zack as they become friends leading to a deeper attraction but Connie could never betray Simon and she also knew that Zack was keeping something from her, could a romance between them work ? could they both jump over the hurdles that were standing in the way of a HEA.
A great story with well rounded characters and plenty of witty banter.
Thank you Storm Publishing and Net Gallery for this ARC, my review is voluntary.

So much excitement when I realised there was a new book set in Starshine Cove. It was like reuniting with old friends and Debbie Johnson writes in such a way that I feel I am there right in the midst of it with everyone. I feel the sun on my face, the wind in my hair and can almost smell that wonderful smell a combination of sun, sea, sand, grass and of course cake!

This instalment in the series centres around the lovely Connie. Connie has been a supporting part in the other books in the series and we know that she is a single mum with three grown-up children, runs the local cafe and has a huge heart. Tragically her husband was killed a number of years ago in a car accident while taking his sister to the hospital to give birth. Since then Connie has been single and concentrating on her children and her business. Now though all of her children have flown the nest and for the first time she realises that she is lonely.

The book begins with a bit of back story about her life before Starshine Cove and how she met Simon (her husband). Back in the day Connie was a phenomenon - she ran her own restaurant in London and was fast on track to become a Celebrity Chef but then she crashed and burned, before being ‘rescued’ by Simon and putting those days behind her.

Now she likes the simple life and those crazy days feel like a lifetime ago. However, when her daughter Sophie inadvertently brings a figure from Connie’s past, she starts to wonder what her future could hold.

Absolutely fantastic book with definite laugh out loud moments. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I requested this book from NetGalley on a fluke and I am SO glad I did. I will be honest in saying that so many romances can seem a little too repetitive to me and I pass them over in search of something else. As a reader I love books concerning cozy cafes, bookshops, small towns, etc., especially in the winter months when I need a bit of lifting up. The cover of this book looked promising but it actually ended up far exceeding my expectations. I’m not huge on Kindle reading and for me to reach for it every night SAYS something.

The problem is in explaining to you exactly why I loved it.
A few things might be:
-The majority of love stories I see all over socials are about young 20s/30s who don’t have as much life experience. I loved that this was a book about an older MC who had been married and in love before, who was successful and had a community, but was considering love again in her 50s. I like books that discuss less represented groups.

-the deep sense of loss felt by her and the other MMC in question was a shared connection I haven’t seen much in my reading that I also liked. Seeing how she navigated feelings of guilt, loss and loneliness in a very real sense made the book more compelling.
The community. I really got a feel for the friends and people in her town that supported her, and the writing and characters weren’t cheesy (if that makes sense). I got the impression that these were all unique but well meaning people that were fortunate to live in such a supportive small town.
-I only wish I had the hard copy of this but I will buy one soon! I am so fortunate for the ARC and will now be reading other books by Debbie Johnson.
Highly recommend.

I was so pleased to receive this book from Netgalley for a review. This is the second book in this series I have read and was sad to see it was the last. I liked Connie from the last book I read so was happy to see she was the main character in this one. Starshine cove is the kind of place you want to live,on the coast, a small village and everyone is friendly. Connie runs the local cafe, sadly she lost her husband and soulmate to a car crash a few years ago. She has 3 children who have all left home and she is missing them. Before she came to Starshine cove she lived in London and was a top chef and about to become a TV star but it all got too much for her and she ran away. Sophie, her daughter is studying in London but she is coming home to do work placement in the cafe. Connie goes to London to collect her and her friend Marcy and they end up getting invited out to dinner by Marcy’s Dad. Enter Zack,Marcy’s dad,he lost his wife 10 years ago. It is a shock for Connie as he was the last person she saw before she left London. She had gone to sign a contract for the TV show but walked out. Zack is good looking, just a few years older than Connie and she remembers they had some chemistry and she found him very attractive. Zack takes some holiday and comes to stay in Starshine cove while Marcy is there, hoping to spend some time with her but he ends up spending time with Connie and sparks fly between them but they are afraid to act on them. You must read the book to find out what happens to Connie and Zack, you won’t be disappointed,I did feel the book finished a bit too early though as most do. Great read though.

Starting Over in Starshine Cove is a heartwarming, cozy read that shines a spotlight on second chances and the magic of small-town life. The protagonist, Connie Llewelyn, is a wonderfully relatable and warm character whose life revolves around her family, her cafe, and the community in the magical seaside town of Starshine Cove. The author does an excellent job of capturing the charm of the village, making it feel like a character in itself, as it is woven with the scents of freshly baked scones and the gentle rhythms of everyday life.

Connie’s journey of rediscovery and healing after the loss of her husband is both touching and inspiring. As her children leave home, she faces a turning point and starts to wonder what her life could look like beyond the roles of wife and mother. This introspective moment of self-reflection is portrayed with authenticity and depth, making it easy for readers to empathize with her.

The introduction of Zack, a face from her past, adds a lovely romantic element to the story. Their chemistry and the exploration of rekindling old flames is handled in a way that feels both sweet and mature, giving the story a refreshing twist on love later in life.

One of the things that makes Starting Over in Starshine Cove stand out is how it embraces love for older characters. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to take risks and pursue happiness, whether it’s in the form of romance, adventure, or self-discovery. The pace is gentle, the writing is uplifting, and the characters are endearing. It’s a perfect book for anyone who’s looking for a heartwarming escape into a world of community, love, and second chances.

Overall, if you’re looking for a cozy, feel-good read with a touch of romance and a lot of heart, this book is an absolute delight. It’s a story that will leave you with a smile, and perhaps a little more hope for what lies ahead in the chapters of life.

This is book four in the Starshine Cove Series, and it's good to be back there again in this lovely community.
This book centres around Connie who met her husband and her soulmate in a compromising position upside down in a ditch following a road accident, unfortunately she has lost him many years ago and she has been left to bring up their children on her own in Starshine Cove.
Starshine Cove is a unique place on the Dorset coast, a place where people have a relaxed lifestyle and everyone is friendly towards each other and are willing to help out with any problems. Her children are now teenagers and mostly able to look after themselves.
Her daughters best friend's father is exactly in the same position as Connie, alone and single after losing his partner many years ago and when he arrives in Starshine Cove with his daughter there is immediately an attraction between them and their daughters are also secretly trying to match-make them. But Connie is too busy with her business for a relationship, or is she? Plus, is the relationship between Connie and Zack going to last?
Starshine Cove is such a lovely place. It's the sort of location that must be on your bucket list to visit. Everyone is really friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
I really loved this book. It's happy and sad, heartwarming, and a real hug-in-a-book.
A five-star read from me.

This is a series I have enjoyed from the start. There do not seem to be any characters left to be paired off in the future after this, but I would still pick up another if it came out.

This kind of background can work both ways when it comes to what I thought of a book. I could hold such high expectations that the book has to be great to pass. On the other hand, I might be so settled into the lives of the people in Starshine Cove that I automatically like anything else set in there. Although I feel the latter is not very possible, I thought to mention it early on in this review just to be clear.

I would not recommend starting this series at this point. Although each romance is not dependent on any other’s, the characters have slowly been built into the people they are shown as in this instalment. Connie is an ever- present character from previous books. Her old life before she became the meddling life of Starshine Cove is described in this book.

I found the content to be interesting and also a little realistic ( aside from the magic of the cove, that is a romantic fantasy). It had a different spin than I expected from it and it was a satisfying way to leave the place ( if we are leaving the place, that is).

I would highly recommend this book and series to fans of the genre.

I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience of this and other books in the series.

I love the Starshine Cove series - they are easy reads but have fairly serious topics as underlying themes. I would recommend this series to anyone but would suggest that you read the others in order otherwise the back stories of the characters won't make sense.

This one is Connie's story. I have to say the opening of the book is not an inclination of how the rest of the book is. It starts with a car crash and how she meets her love..,. the rest of the book is about how she finds new love... but not in the way that you expect!

Connie is lonely since the passing of her husband in a car crash, but lonely at the same time as having lots of friends, but lonely as her children are leaving the nest and finding their own way.

One of her children is working in the catering industry, and Connie has her and her best friend, Marcy, to help her work in the cafe that she owns and runs.. In the process, she is brought back in touch with her past, Zack, one of her employers that she left behind before the car crash,. This brings back her past, and in the same vein, brings into Connie's life, memories and feelings she had forgotten (or put to bed), and goes into a different direction to what she expects.

This is a lovely read, shows that it's never too late to start afresh, and that home is where your friends and family are.

🔹 My take: 3.5/5

Starting over in Starshine Cove is the 4th instalment in the Starshine Cove series and is my first Debbie Johnson read. Connie is living her dream life at Starshine. She runs a local cafe, is a good friend, mom, wife, daughter in law and is loved by all. She lost her husband 5 years ago and her kids who are all old now have gone their ways. A chance meeting with Zack thunders down exactly like the blast from the past. Whether Connie is ready to extend her family or content with what she already has is what you can find out after reading this heartwarming book.

First, let’s start with admiring the cover. It is so beautiful and so are the other covers in this series. Watch out. I found the beginning a bit drag but once Zack made the entry, it was easy to skim through. The past of Connie was equally interesting to read. I loved the comfort shared between the characters and the entire feel of Starshine Cove. The length of the book was not stretched so that was a plus point as well. The scenes about Connie holding the annual culinary festival at cafe was super fun and well etched.

I will be picking up other books in this series if I get a chance. This book can be read as a stand-alone.

Thanks to @netgalley and @stormbooks_co for sharing the DRC in exchange for honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

In the fourth in Debbie Johnson's Starshine Cove series, it's refreshing to focus on Connie, who runs the local café. She has appeared in the first three books in the series, and now this 55-year-old gets her own story.

It starts with a flashback, showing Connie as a flamboyant celebrity chef who is about to seal a deal that will take her to the next level. But her personal life has gotten out of control and she is on the verge of a breakdown. Fast forward to present day, when Connie has become a treasured member of the Starshine Cove community, but she is still mourning the unexpected and untimely death of her husband and soulmate after five years. When her daughter brings home her college roommate for a visit, Connie is startled to meet someone from her long-ago past, and she is shaken out of her complacency with a view of how her life might change once again.

Connie is a lovely character, engaging and mature. She has found her niche cooking great food in a small-town environment and reveling in her friendships. The potential romance is not my favorite in the series, but I did enjoy the characters of Connie's friends and daughter, and the book continues the series' life-affirming, heart-warming tone.

My review is based on a complimentary pre-release copy of this bookk.

In this fun and charming new romance novel, readers meet Connie Llewelyn, who runs the local cafe in Starshine Cove and always has time to support her friends after losing her husband five years ago. Now raising her children and supporting her family, a face from the past -- Zack -- arrives in Starshine Cove out of nowhere and might just give her a second chance at love if she is brave enough to take that risk and live again. Entertaining, well-written, and charming, readers will love the emotional storyline of this novel as a second-chance romance when not everything went smoothly the first go around. As readers discover the transformation of Connie’s life and her relationship with Zack, they will love this return to Starshine Cove and the magic of happy endings here. Well-written and deeply enjoyable, the novel’s focus on relationships and personal happiness will really draw readers into the story, and the characters’ relationships really pull the story together. Entertaining, emotional, and deeply rewarding, readers of all kinds and fans of the series will love Connie’s growth as an individual and her attempt at a second chance at happiness with Zack in the fun and deeply enjoyable return to Starshine Cove.

Like other devoted fans of Johnson’s Starshine Cove series, I waited a long time for Connie’s love story, and I couldn’t be happier. She is the heart and soul of the village and after losing her soulmate five years ago, she deserves to find love again. It’s scary to be vulnerable after loss, but life as an empty-nester can be lonely, even with her close friends and family who provide support, comfort, and great company. So, it is so heartwarming to see how happy her friendship with and blossoming feelings for Zack make her.

As a single 60-something, it’s so encouraging to read a romance between two beautiful, reacquainted friends who find each other after 25 years. Also, reading about Starshine Cove and its delightful inhabitants is a wonderful way to spend a few hours, especially catching up with characters from previous books. There’s a bit of angst, but it doesn’t drag the book down. If you’re a fan of Johnson’s or just love a mature, closed door romance, definitely check this one out. Highly recommended.

Book 4 in a series, you don't need to have read the first three. This would be a great book for plane travel, or by the pool/beach.

Celebrity chef (and professional party girl) Connie Llewellyn is just a mess in the big city. She ends up driving out to the country in typical full throttle fashion and finds herself upside down in a ditch, staring at the most handsome man ever. Fast forward and she's left the big city behind, settled down with said handsome man, started a family and the local cafe that everyone in town just loves (along with her!).

Then her husband and sister in law are tragically killed in an auto accident and Connie is busy just surviving with her kids, cafe and small town life. As her kids head off to university, she finds herself with an empty nest and wandering mind. When a blast from the past comes into her life, maybe things will really change? But change is frightening and there is definite comfort in the here and now.

Johnson built extremely likeable characters, and a fun story!

Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Debbie Johnson for the eARC.

Twenty-five years ago, Constance met the love of her life after Simon rescued her from her wrecked car. She never thought she would enjoy anything but city life, but now after having their three children, Connie is once again adjusting to her “new” life, life without Simon. She may have once thought that she was destined for great things, but now she knows what the truly great things are. She loves her children, her life in Starshine Cove filled with her friends and Simon’s loving relatives, and her restaurant. In her other life, Connie thought that she was on her way to stardom, as she had interviewed for producer Zach Harris, but that was before Simon. When her teenage daughter introduces to her friend, Marcy, it seems that fate has more in store for her as Marcy is Zach’s daughter. A chance meeting will bring Zach, who is now a widower, back into her life. Is she ready for the complications that loving Zach might bring into her life? I truly enjoyed this wonderful and moving story about life after your first love is gone. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Connie was on the cusp of becoming a celebrity chef when she suffered from burnout, leading to a car crash near Starshine Cove. She is rescued by Simon, to whom she eventually married and has a family, setting up a successful cafe and having a happy, low-keyed life. Years later, after the sad death of Simon, she suddenly meets a face from her last, Zac who was going to have her in a leading role in a cookery show, and reevaluates her life.
Debbie writes the kind of book that I really love, after first reading the Comfort Food Cafe series I then was happy to start reading the Starshine Cove series, which had much the same vibe. With relatable characters and a community that I'd love to live in it is wonderful to sit down and become enveloped in that cozy feel that this series gives. With characters from the previous books supporting Connie whilst she struggles with her feelings for Zac you can't help being drawn into the story. As you might have guessed I really loved this book and can highly recommend it.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Four books into this fabulous series, and we finally get a book dedicated to Starshine Cove stalwart, who has been present in the previous books in a big way, and we now get to learn all about her.

And I was delighted to see it, as I love Connie but I don't think even though it had been mentioned previously, just how much her backstory effected her. And it was good to see it in a lot more detail.

When there is a blast from the past that leads to her Starshine Cove life melding with someone she knew back in the day from London, it's interesting to see just how Connie will cope.

There is a whole lot of great food in this book, leaving me to feel hungry a lot while reading, and it was a warm hug of a book to read.

I enjoyed seeing the tables turned on Connie, as her friends and children attempt to matchmake her, after years of her doing that to them! It's a lovely story about the community in Starshine Cove which is fast becoming a favourite fictional location of mine. I hope there are many more books to come in this series that I am so thoroughly enjoying.

Thank you to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
