This is book 4 in the Spellbound Bookshop paranormal cozy mystery series by USA TODAY Bestselling Author J.A. Whiting.
It’s early August in the seacoast town of Hamlet, Massachusetts and since the most recent mystery has been solved, Shelby Price is happily running her bookshop and enjoying the summer weather by hiking, kayaking, and swimming in the ocean.
Last Christmas, Shelby fell off a ladder and hit her head and when she woke up, she could hear her cat talking to her. Not only could she converse with the feline, but she started to develop some paranormal powers. Initially shocked and frightened by what was going on, Shelby came to accept her new skills and has been working to better understand what she can do with them.
Now, someone has fallen ill in town and when things aren’t what they seem, Shelby begins to question what is really going on and where the danger is coming from. With the help of her friend Lucy, Travis the town detective, and her cat Harper, will Shelby be able to find the answers before someone loses their life?

A Friendly Bookstore Spirit and a Cat That Communicates Telepathically Save the Day!
Poison and Options is Book 4 in A Spellbound Bookshop Mystery series, written by one of my 5 favorite authors, J. A. Whiting. The only reason I gave this episode a 4 star, instead of a 5 star rating, is because one scene did not ring true to me. I mean, if I had been stabbed by an unknown knife wielding maniac in a hoodie, I surely wouldn't be riding my bike through a wooded trail, like Shelby and Travis did only a couple of days after the incident. This episode is about an anthrax poisoning of one of Shelby and Lucy's friend, Penny. Then there is a murder of another woman who used to be best friends with Penny. Who could the bad guy be? Was it the ex-boyfriend? Was it the local pharmacist? Was it the teacher who repeatedly asked to date him, but Penny refused? Or was it someone not listed? After a few clues, I had figured out who had poisoned Penny and murdered Jennifer. Jealousy ranks high in the reasons for murder in this book. By the time Shelby figures it out, it is almost too late! We find a loving telepathic cat, Harper, and the ghost of the original bookstore owner, Emily, saving the day. Only Shelby can hear her cat talk telepathically to her. Only Harper the cat can see and hear Emily the cost from 120 years ago. This is a wonderful series, and I would have given it a 5 star rating if it hadn't been for the one scene I mentioned earlier. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the author, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Shelby's paranormal talents were growing thanks to some magical friends and her awesome cat, Harper. She was lucky that Travis believed and was willing to use her help as consultant on the case. Shelby had to get justice for her friend’s poisoning, so she and Lucy worked pretty much non-stop.
That was one exciting showdown. All I can say is yay for Harper and Emily's help too. After the sweet ending, I'm eager to read the next book.
I am loving this series, Shelby and Travis are drawn in to several situations along with Lucy. Shelby is developing her skills more each day and when a friend is poisoned she helps figure out what happened. JA Whiting is great can't wait to read more. Highly recommend.
