Yes, this was a short read, but oh myyyy did it pack a Harvey Wallbanger-sized wallop. Do not read this if you can't deal with morally ambiguous heroines who booze it up and get stoned.

I really could have read more about sass and vinegar Theresa Tierney, the twice-divorced hard-drinking heroine. She's brash, unapologetic and so not looking for rescue or sympathy. I've always loved edgy heroines, the imperfect ones. They feel real.

Theresa's life seems headed in a slow downward spiral when a super-hunk workout god named Vario moves in next door, bringing with him six-pack abs, a distaste for homemade cookies and a bevy of strippers who like to party with him in his hot tub. It doesn't take much before the attraction/repulsion dynamic cause these two satellites to crash spectacularly into each other. Or Theresa deciding, after far too much in the way of liquid courage, to crash into one of Vario's parties.

All I have to say is WHEE!

Despite the brevity, this was a wicked fun read with a nice, sardonic edge.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

VODKA WARRIOR by Mickey j Corrigan is one hot and funny novella. Theresa is one hot mess, doesn't care about her appearance and drinks way too much! That is, until her new neighbor, Vario moves in. He is a beautiful and rock hard man and right away he hates Theresa. She goes over here trying to impress him with a plate of cookies and he tells her he doesn't eat that shit......oh boy, he is going to be fun!

Theresa had me laughing out loud with the situations she got herself into, but at the same time I felt sorry for her. Her life really sucks and she is on a downward spiral. I really enjoyed the story and my only complaint is that I wish it was longer, but other than that......awesome read!

Vodka WarriorReviewed by Desere

This was a super hot and very funny read. The book takes a look into the life of Theresa. She has hit rock bottom. drinking, sweating it out and not really worrying about what she looks like.

All of us have visited the land of rock bottom and most of us luckily have pulled through, but it is never done without the help of a good friend or in the case of Theresa come hither and Ill make you scream my name all night long Vario.

In the beginning the man is a total jerk, muscled up and totally hot, but yes a jerk. He hangs out in the hot tub with the play boy bunny types and at first it seems he does not like Theresa very much, as it should be, no guy looks at a hungover sweaty female, but he does come around at a later stage.

And right here is where this read becomes super hot and gave me as reader a stunning message, when you have motivation anyone can pull themselves from the depths of despair.

I really enjoy this author's writing style, she manages to put sexy sass, hot loving, crazy funny and real life emotion all in to one magical little package.

I recommend this read for anyone looking for something REAL to read, the characters are very realistic and the challenges they face very true!

Teresa has serious body issues and she deals with her problems by drinking to the point of her not feeling anything. Vario is the new renter/neighbor who is very much into health and sexual prowess. "Vodka Warrior" by Mickey J. Corrigan is a fun, quick read. You'll enjoy the sexual tension between the slightly older woman and the hunk next door.

VODKA WARRIOR (The Hard Stuff, book 2)

By Mickey J. Corrigan

Review by Alehouse Aggie, Who Boinks Dudes Shaggy

Rating : 5 Vodka Bottles (out of 5)

Key to Alehouse's Rating System:

1 Vodka Bottle: Book was disgusting and so was the cheap Vodka, won't read again or drink again.

2 Vodka Bottles : Book was lame but not intolerable. Casual sip of Smirnoff's.

3 Vodka Bottles: Book was ok. Not bad. Slight alcohol buzz.

4 Vodka Bottles: Book was very good, very entertaining. Feelin groooovy. Weeeeeeeeee....

5 Vodka Bottles: Book was fantastic. Great read. A keeper. Full on drunk and dancing on the ceiling.....naked. Woooo Hooooo! More Smirnoff's, please!!

Oh boy. Some people need to be committed. If not for the safety and sanity of others, then for their own damn good. Unfortunately, for the heroine of "Vodka Warrior", Theresa Tierney, this does not happen. Oh she gets into plenty of trouble but she somehow manages to avoid a welcoming stay at the local looney bin. Unbelievable, since the woman is a menace to her Florida community.

Theresa is a twice married and divorced, 40-sumting (my accent is comin out, excuse me..or maybe it's the vodka) alcoholic, who tutors to make ends meet. Because of her love of booze, specifically, vodka, she has ruined her life and seems to think having a pity party and throwing shit fits will make her life even better. NOT!!! When a sudden hunk shows up and moves in next door with her nice, elderly, neighbor Oscar, she decides to take him a plate of cookies as a welcome- to -the -hood-present. This is a big No No. As it turns out, Mr Body God, as she refers to Vario Fumesti (but this reviewer calls him Mr Body Gag), is sumting of a health nut. So when he is rude to her and dismisses her token of goodwill she is embarrassed and angry.

And that is how the vodka induced shenanigans begin.

Never f--k with a ragin, horny, and needy, Vodka Goddess, man. One whose cheese slid off her cracker a long time ago.Just sayin.

When Vario's continued loud partying with strippers in his hot tub, and loud music blaring, finally crosses the line, Hottie Pants Theresa takes things into her own hands and the results are hilarious. But also a little pathetic. I won't say anything else because this is such a short novella. She definitely pays the price for her fueled anger.

The absolute gem of this book is Theresa and her antics. Told in first person, the reader is privy to everything going on in this scorned cornball's head. She is nuts. Mickey Corrigan couldn't have created a crazier, more memorable character. And a funnier book. "Vodka Warrior" is her best so far. I think she, herself, has had some swiss slide off a Ritz or two. And that is a very good thing. A very very good thing.

As for Vario Fumesti. What can I say? I thought he was a peckerhead in the first chapter, but some characters have a way of surprising you. And he did. I ended up thinking he was pretty good guy even though his name sounds like a cheap bottle of wine you'd order at a sleazy Italian restaurant:

"Hey Vinnie, got any of dat, cheap red 'Vario Fumesti ', for a buck a glass? Yous don't? Ah,shit. Jist gimme a glass of da Asti Spumante then. Capice?"

And don't even get me started on Dooley Nudstein. That name ought to be illegal to use, even in fiction.

I highly recommend "Vodka Warrior." First time readers of Mickey Corrigan will love it. It is entertaining, goofy, and for all the seriousness of Theresa's personal issues and alcoholism , it is redemptive and has a perfect ending.

“As soon as he moved in next door, I started drinking more. Things went from lousy to terrible, then they got worse.”

It’s official. I am in love with Mickey J. Corrigan. Her writing style is all her own and I cannot get enough of it. I love when she pulls me away from my life and shows me a dirty and different world like the towns she has created in South Florida. She gives me characters I shouldn’t like with personalities no one would find endearing and makes me want to sit down and have a drink with them… and some times a lot more than that.

“And my dismal record didn’t win me any favors. Neither did the flask of vodka I carried around back then.”

Vodka Warrior was a fabulous example of a pair of un-heroes that I now associate with Mickey. Theresa and Vario clash from the beginning in a sophomoric and narcissistic attempt to best one another that if presented by any other author, would have had me shaking my head and throwing my Kindle. Reading this story, I could not stop laughing! But there is a hard truth that streams through The Hard Stuff Series. Theresa was an imperfect woman and needed to hit rock bottom to find her happily ever after. When you are already living at the bottom of the barrel (or bottle,) rock bottom can be an ugly site.

“I couldn’t afford the recommended treatments, so I would have to live with the pain.

A metaphor for my freaking life.”

I love the way the story is written and tells a tale of hard truths wrapped in funny scenarios. The story ends well, but realistically and that is always appreciated. There is no sugarcoating in a MJC book. Life is tough, but life is still good.

And one last quote that the Irish girls running the Books & Alcohol site couldn’t quite ignore:

“I had thousands of years of Irish tradition to thank for my tendency to indulge in fermented hops. Was I supposed to abandon the National drink of my proud Celtic ancestors? No, I thought not.”

I give this novella 4 solid stars and of course, serve it up with some cheap vodka from a plastic bottle.

Book review by Nicole McCurdy for Bex 'n' Books
Disclosure: This ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

This may story might only be 55 pages long give or take but Mickey Corrigan manages to pack a hefty punch of hilarity and wit into that short space. It was such a different story to read, a story where I wasn’t entirely sure I liked or could connect to Theresa our self-proclaimed vodka warrior for reasons I won’t go into since it’s a short story and would probably detract from the enjoyment of reading this for yourself but suffice to say by the end of it I pitied her, I disliked her, I envied her and I bloomin’ loved her, all at the same time. She’s brutally honest, loves a drink thanks to her Celtic heritage and her life by all appearances seems to be circling the drain.

Vario, our gorgeous alpha gym warrior with a penchant for hot-tubbing with confectionery named strippers enters the fray and the chaos of Theresa’s life and that is where things get not only pee-your-pants funny for the reader but life altering for our perpetually sloshed heroine. Things always get worse before they get better and so goes the tale of Theresa and Vario.

A lovely light read that was well written from Theresa’s point of view. She’s candid, often pessimistic, but she is so refreshing and sincere. Lovely ending.

Mickey J Corrigan's Vodka Warrior is true to her style, full of her typical sass and laugh out loud moments.

Theresa; correction, down on her luck Theresa is out gardening when she notices the new neighbour... HELLOOO!!! But the new neighbour Vario isnt interested in her at all, he's wrapped up in himself and his crew of hot tub girls he's regularly inviting over. But as always with Mickey's writing, all is not as it seems.

I was surprised about the age the author alluded to for Theresa at the end of the book; it was interesting to have that younger guy/older woman vibe and it certainly helped get things straight to the point.

There are times during Vodka Warrior you don't know whether to laugh or cry then next second you're gasping "did I just read that??". I always have a sense that Mickey writes with hilarity, triple sass and with a smidge of reality all rolled up into one.

A short but highly entertaining read which, if you've read any of Mickey's previous stories, you will totally get :)

Opposites attract and that couldn't be any more true when it comes to Theresa and Vairo. You will enjoy this short humorous book by Mickey!

Theresa has hit rock bottom. She's had 2 divorces, therapy- well the bottle! She does have her 80 year old neighbor and a tutoring job, but other than that she's lost and alone.

Vario comes to move in with 80 year old man. He and Theresa clash and it doesn't help that he has playboy bunny types of women at the place all the time.

I laughed out loud at Theresa. Some of the things she says and does are hilarious! I loved her and felt sad for her in a way too.

Vairo I enjoyed him and his ways of tormenting Theresa. What a match they are.

I thought this novella was humorous and held my attention until the end.

4 stars from me.

I have become a HUGE fan of short stories and novellas. Vodka Warrior is exactly that. This is the perfect quick read that I could not put down.

I love Theresa. She is constantly getting herself into laughing out loud situations. There were many times I felt pity for her, knowing that the life she lives now is not the life that she dreamed of living. Her “relationship” with Vario was intense and quick. It proves that there is just a short road between hate and love. I love that Mickey J. Corrigan portrays Vario one way in the beginning and by the end he is shown in a different light.

For being a short story, Mickey manages to make me laugh, smile, shake my head, and want more. I will recommend this story to anyone looking for a quick read.

VODKA WARRIOR by author Mickey. J. Corrigan is a May 2014 release by The Wild Rose Press.

Vario Fumesti moves in next door to Theresa Tierney and she instantly has a lust/hate relationship in her mind with him.
She wants him, yet can’t fathom why his place is full of nude girls…all in his bath. So she takes her revenge.

Then she realizes her mistake and apologies. But would a hot guy like Vario really want her?

VODKA WARRIOR is a short, fun and steamy read. I love author Mickey. J. Corrigan’s writing style. This book is no exception. She brings sassy stories with a heavy dose of reality to the page.

Recommended for all readers.

When Mickey emailed me to review her new book I didn't even hesitate. It is always a joy to read her work.

For a quick read, this is funny and entertaining. I'm oh so happy to read about Tami Lee and Avery on this book! I love those couple!

At first, I didnt like how Theresa is. She's drinking so much that it interfere with her life. She drinks cheap everything! C'mon girl, your a teacher! But...

Theresa Tierney reformed herself not for somebody else but to help herself. That's what I love about her character, she tried and failed but she tried again. She knows her weakness but got better.

Yes, that's how he looks in my mind. He is hot!

At first he was annoying as hell. But he came around. I guess his health buff-ness rubbed on Theresa (and Dooley!)

One thing I didn't like about this read was their transition from enemies to lovers. For me, it was so abrupt. Wish it was smoother.

I haven't read the first book so I can tell you this can be read as a stand alone, though it is part of a series. It's also around 55 pages of text (at least on my Nook), so you can get this done in less than an hour if you're looking for a waiting room read.

I didn't love it though. I actually read it twice thinking because I read this immediately after a really fantastic book with beautiful words and sentences that maybe I was being overly critical. So I gave it a few days, then came back to it. And still... I didn't love it. I think my main issue is that I really didn't like the main character, Theresa. Mostly because she's an alcoholic, she makes poor choices, she's brash, and she is a terrible tutor for a high school boy (how did his parents not ask for references or ask why she got fired from her teaching job?!) and that turns out to be a nightmare. Then in moves new neighbor, Vario, and he's kind of an asshole. I was expecting hilarious story line, and there was only one incident I cracked a smile and the rest.... maybe I'm really snobby and don't see the humor. Admittedly, I'm not one to enjoy drunken antics so that might be my issue here. But in walks Vario and sexual tension ensues. Except Theresa is basically a hot mess. But somehow, they make that happen and the ending? Felt rushed. I can't tell you what happens since that's a spoiler but it kind of reminded me of an episode of Teen Mom, featuring Jenelle. You know what I'm talking about.

I am clearly the odd ball out because reviews for this book are 4 and 5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. I have to be honest, I'm a one star on it because it's not one I'd read again and it's not one I would gift or tell a friend she has to read this. (If you know me in real life, you know a few things about me. 1. I always have a book (or two) with me at all times. 2. If you ask me what you should read next, I'm going to give you like five options. 3. I gift books all of the time. I'm a book giver. And 4., if I don't like it, I'm always honest.)

** JODIE'S THREE STAR REVIEW **

This Novella is a quick read, and by quick I mean you literally can read this in an hour or less. I think total for story time it is 60 pages. I know that this is part of a series but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone.

I wasn’t in love with this story and I think the main issue was it truly was too quick to connect with. I also really wasn’t feeling Theresa. I found her almost disgusting, she’s an alcoholic, she is irresponsible and she was the worst teacher I have ever seen written, I don’t know if that was suppose to be funny but I missed it if so. Honestly, as a mom I would probably have sued her and killed whoever recommended her, but then again that whole situation made no sense to me. Then Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome becomes her new neighbor and he is the Hugh Hefner of the block. There are moments in this book that make you giggle but most of it I was like OMG please someone lock this women up, she is beyond a HOT MESS!! So we watch as these two, I thought hated each other, become something and that’s where I was left saying REALLY, I am going to need ten more pages because HOW THE HELL?!?! I can’t even use quotes because I am going to spoil it, in fact, I feel like I already said too much and clearly I am the odd girl in the circle because most reviews are falling in the 4-5 range. So I will leave it like this, if you are looking for a quick read that gives you a story, makes you laugh and takes you away for a soap opera minute this is for you.
