My Apollo: An Instant Kid's Classic

There is a lot going on under the surface of this story about a boy and his dog, and for that I give Nina Huang a lot of credit. There is a maturity and respect in this book that gives parents and children the opportunity to talk about issues that can often be difficult to broach with a young child.

Divorce, bullying and learning to respect and appreciate others are core themes in this book, and there is something extremely powerful in the simplicity with which the author manages to tell this story. Making it accessable to all ages, while making sure there is enough depth for every age.

The fact that this moving tail (pun intended) is brought to life in the rich and wonderful world of Nina’s vibrant paintings, just make the whole experience that much more rewarding as a reader. And truly makes this a beautiful addition to anyone’s collection!

This is a heart-warming story from start to finish. Anyone who's ever taken an animal into their home--especially a shelter or rescue pet--knows how much your life changes by the love this animal will show you and the love you can't help but show him or her! Nina Huang's beautiful tale about Briar and his rescue greyhound Apollo brought tears to my eyes because I've rehabilitated abused/scared/distrusting dogs before and have experienced firsthand the overwhelming sense of joy that can come from finally making a bond with that animal. Nina captures this wonderfully. If you're an animal lover, you will love this story. The illustrations are beautiful and will bring a smile to your face. The perfect gift!

What a heartwarming story about a Greyhound and his boy! As the mother of a Greyhound, I am just in love with this book. It illustrates the bond between dogs and humans. The most valuable lesson it teaches is that a rescue dog can also become the *rescuer*, and that a boy needs his dog as much as the dog needs his boy.

In addition to the story and its messages, the book itself is hard cover, generously sized, and printed on high-quality thick paper. My husband and I adore the endearing illustrations. We have My Apollo prominently displayed on our coffee table!

Highly recommended for every library, whether personal or public.

I received my book in the mail yesterday, I love it! My Apollo is an absolutely beautiful book, Nina's illustrations are the perfect match for your words. Such a sentimental, peaceful, loving story - I cannot wait to read to my grandchildren. I'm going to practice though, as I only got to the first time Briar met Apollo, and I was sobbing!!

A story of love and kindness, for adults, children and dog lovers!

As a teacher, a school principal and ex librarian, I don't get to see books of such beauty very often.

Both the story and the art are absolutely gorgeous!!! My 8 year old and I had to read it twice-Once for the story and the second time for the eye candy that is the art of the author. The story has depth and the art is done in soothing colors that add another dimension to this "story of healing."

This lovely picture book was donated to my library. It tells the story of a little boy named Briar and the greyhound he adopts named Apollo. There is "healing on both sides of the leash." And the illustrations are just beautiful!
