I was lucky to have attended a workshop with Prof. Tom Kosnik from Stanford, one of the authors, in which the book was given as a guideline. I always use Gear up together with Bill Aulet’s book. If Bill holds your hand and show you how it’s done, Gear Up shows you the key in an easy and simple manner. Not as actionable if you are a complete noob, but you know what to look for because of the core framework. Too many weird pictures for my taste tho.
