Emmy winners, magazine editors, comedians, TV personalities, bestselling authors and social media superstars team up to bring you a laugh-out-loud book not about being a mom, but about having a mom, grandmom or mom-figure. And while it's not OK for someone else to make yo-momma jokes about your momma, it is perfectly healthy — even downright hilarious — to find the humor in your own upbringing. In fact, these writers highly recommend it. So if you think your mom is nuts, pull up a chair. You're in good company.

This is a collection of mom or mum stories as soon as I noticed this book I knew I had to read it, I've lost count of the number of times my kids have called me 'nuts' Some of these short tales will bring a smile to your face, as always with compilations some are better than others and some are funnier than others but I've been chuckling on and off all morning. 'If There Were Swans It Would Be a Lamentation' this one is a little bizarre but weirdly like a conversation I had with my mum a few weeks ago about fish..... I know the title gives it away but this is a very american collection and yes, while some made me smile and some made me laugh some are just not funny at all but then I always think different things appeal to different people but I did wonder just how some of these actually made the cut.
This book really is for anybody. While I laughed through the stories I pictured my own mom in a lot of the dialogue. That is what makes it so great is that everybody probably has their own anecdote in this vein, so it makes us laugh and reminisce at the same time. Plus there are a wide variety of types of stories here, so there's something for everybody. I'm also the husband of a new mom so I'm starting to wonder what I might be in for. Great collection that you should check out.
Always thought is was a mother's role to make her kids annoyed, frustrated, and nudged into productive pursuits. And that role is funny at some point, too, as this book shows with great skill. I recognized my mom, myself, and now I can share with my kids to prove that someday, they will find my habits hysterical. Loved it and will recommend to all my fellow children of mothers.
If you're expecting Erma Bombeck, forget about it. However, the stories are usually entertaining, and a couple of them had me laughing out loud. Either way, it's an educational read with many differences between styles of mothering, views on what's funny, and sensitivity between the various ethnic backgrounds.
I enjoyed some of the mom stories but I wished they were nuttier. Well, the offspring appear to be nuttier than the moms. I laughed at some, chuckled at a few, didn't comprehend one story(but that's probably my fault, not the writer).
It's evident that the writers are talented, but the stories didn't quite deliver the funny bits that were promised.
This was a good book - the anecdotes were short and easy to read. All were funny, but some funnier than other. I could relate to them when growing up. I should note I did not enjoy one because the f-word was used too many times. Overall it was a good book, one I enjoyed reading.
I really enjoyed this collection of essays from funny people who shared stories about their "crazy" (How about unconventional) moms. Very funny stories!
I have a mom, who I love to death, but, let’s face it: she’s also nuts. That’s why I wanted to read this book—to know that others share my pain. (Just kidding, Ma!)
In “The Boots,” Eliza Bayne recalls the time her mother bought her the most embarrassing boots at a flea market. Of course, she was bound to insist she wear them on a snowy day. It was a cute tale.
“Mothers are full of momtradictions—behavior that does not match up with their own philosophies on life (you can call it hypocrisy, but they you had better be ready to send an apology greeting card.)” (Loc 679) This is actually true!
Although relatable in many ways, the stories were not as funny as I expected. I didn’t anticipate laughing so hard that milk would come out of my nose, but I expected to chuckle a few times at least. They were mildly amusing at best. They were just: “Eh.”
My God did these writers like to ramble on and on. I wouldn’t say that these moms are nuts; they’re just boring. This book was such a disappointment.
I should’ve written for this instead. Being raised by a Mexican mama, I have loads of stories.
Reading this collection of stories about mothers (including the occasional grandmother and mother-in-law) took me back a few years to a women’s dinner party I held at my home. One of my friends shared a story about her mother, telling of their difficult relationship. Others followed – each one seeming to top the one before. Overall they were extraordinary. When all had shared, I added the comment that came to me as I listened. I thought I had some issues with my mother but, compared to theirs, mine was great! I try to remember that when I think about the time that my mom… never mind!
Naturally, some of the essays in this collection are more enjoyable than others, but overall it’s very entertaining. There are some great characters among all those moms.
Moms are Nuts is a wonderful collection of funny, talented writers each telling their own personal stories about their moms. Each new story leaves you wanting to quickly move on to the next. A fun and entertaining read for anyone!
I won this book on Goodreads, and I read through it and then gave it to my Mom. We both thought it was a wonderful book...funny,sad,and everything in between! It's a great book to look at with your Mom,no matter your age. We loved it!
Some of the stories made me chuckle, but only one had me gasping for air I was laughing so hard - If There Were Swans It Would Be a Lamentation by Dylan Brody. Seriously, I added a star just for it.
Several of these stories brought tears of laughter to my eyes. Several others just seemed to be digs borne of unresolved resentment. Fortunately, there were more of the former.
This book was very inspirational. The author Connie did a great job with this book of miracles. I am a caregiver and read this book to my elderly client and she too loved this book as much as I did.
very few of the stories were worth reading. in fact, I finally gave up and stopped and I never stop reading once I start, but with all the books out there, it's not worth your time
As with most anthologies, some of these stories by 25 different authors are hilarious, some are thoughtful, and some just didn't grab me at all. Overall, a collection well worth reading.
Quick read of short stories. Really expected the stories to be funnier...there were about 3 that I got a kick out of. Some I didn't follow the story at all.
A collection of stories about peoples' moms. Some were funny, but not totally laugh out loud. Got this for free on my Kindle, which is why I read it. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
