In real life, Roto, Boromid and Ah-Dol are average kids with average problems, but in the virtual world of Lost Saga, they are heroes! They might even become legends...if they can stop bickering long enough to level up. Whether it's werewolves running rampant or a gorgeous pair of troublesome thieves, our boys must be ready for anything, because in Lost Saga nothing is what it seems and murder can happen with a click of a mouse.Hee-Joon Son, creator of TOKYOPOP's PhD: Phantasy Degree, has crafted an unforgettable fantasy world filled with medieval monsters, magical weaponry and endless imagination.
If I knew more about the plot of this prior to reading then I wouldn't have picked it up. I'm not really a fan of stories following people playing / getting trapped in virtual worlds. I don't think this comic did anything that differently than any other I've read, I also remember there being a joke that made me uncomfortable. I could be missremembering that though as it has been a while since I started it.
A good time-kill, maybe, but there's no real substance behind the story. I'd expect more focus on the questing and fighting, since it's about an online RPG, but most of the art is of the same characters over and over, with maybe 2-3 shots of monsters. Nobody seems to change their costume designs to show off new loot, either.
I read this some years ago but never continued with the series even though I loved this first volume. Now that I have a few of the next volumes, I decided to reread this one. And, years later, I still enjoyed it.
General Synopsis: Yureka is a manhwa (Korean comic) which follows Jang-Gun and his friends as they navigate both the "real world," and the "virtual world" primarily in an online game called "Lost Saga." They soon realize life isn't a game, and virtual reality isn't always safe. . . .
V.1: Stages 1-7, it should also be noted, the Yureka is not actually introduced until Yureka, Tome 02
Characters: Jang-Gun (Roto/Lotto), main protagonist (it should be noted in "Lost Saga," Roto has both a master class and a sub class, as do the other 2 main members of Team Triple Threat.) Kwan-Su (Boromir), a member of Team Triple Threat Woon-Suk (Ah-Dol), a member of Team Triple Threat
Jun-Suk Hwang (Row-the-Mighty), plays "Lost Saga". Mun-Suk Sim (Myriah), a debugger for "Lost Saga." She has a grudge against Triple Threat Piri, an NPC () Aradon (real name unknown), Jin-Mee (K.C.), a member of Team Fallen Angels (Lovely Angels) Gina (Julie), a member of Team Fallen Angels (Lovely Angels)
Personal Opinion: I love the concept of VRMMO. I first became interested after reading Yu Wo's 1/2 Prince Light Novel series. Using that as a starting base, I looked for other series about virtual reality and this is one of the ones I came across.
Yureka is an amazing series. I love the story line, the characters, even the idea where this series is going, but . . . I am writing this review after having read up to at least V. 34, but therein lies one of the issues, it's a series which very few translators are translating, so new chapters are few and far between.
As I mentioned above and in a previous review, I read a lot of manga, manhua, manhwa and light novels online. I don't read/speak Chinese, Japanese or Korean, but I am obsessed with all of the above, including anime & dramas.
iD_ENTITY features three high school friends who are a well-renown (or infamous) team of gamers in the online world of LostSaga.
There isn't that much more to say about the plot of this first volume, although that's not a bad thing - it's spent establishing the main and secondary characters and the two worlds they'll be inhabiting. It isn't a very unique setup nor does anything stand out as particularly impressive, but I found it very enjoyable all the same. The characters and their antics are amusing so far. The back cover description actually mentions things that don't happen in this volume, which sound like they'll play off the promise here well.
The art is decent, again kind of fantasy manga. Good enough to tell the story but not jaw-dropping.
Overall iD_ENTITY isn't must-read stuff, but is a fun little adventure if you're in the mood for a quick, light read.
Boyfriend told me to read this and at first I didn't want to but then I picked it up and couldn't put it down. First book in one day, second book in hand! Being a gamer this series makes me smile and reminds me of the times I've had in MMOs.
