269 books31 followersMichel Thomas (born Moniek (Moshe) Kroskof, February 3, 1914 – January 8, 2005) was a polyglot linguist, language teacher, and decorated war veteran. He survived imprisonment in several different Nazi concentration camps after serving in the Maquis (World War II) of the French Resistance and worked with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. After the war, Thomas emigrated to the United States, where he developed a language-teaching system known as the Michel Thomas Method. In 2004 he was awarded the Silver Star by the U.S. Army.

One year and four days Goodreads informs me that I have been using Michel Thomas' 'Total Spanish Foundation Course'. Perhaps not an altogether great recommendation, but my excuse is that I have too many hobbies and interests, and insufficient time to adequately service them all.
However, in the past twelve months I have visited Spain on a few occasions and have had the confidence to use what I have picked up from this course and received compliments on my pronunciation.
My sister, who has resided in Spain for decades and is now more Spanish than English considers my learning of the language is improving....of course when she rattles off at a pace I'm reminded that I am only at a foundation level.
Still, I can really recommend these seven c.d.'s which engage the learner to join in the course from the outset, without learning by rote or revision.
Almost ready for the more advanced audio c.d.'s in this series.

I honestly don't like it. I've listened and re-listened, and I do not feel that this product alone is what will have me speaking Spanish confidently - which is the promise of the package. It's hard to listen to, in that our instructor is a bit condescending and the "students" are idk, very annoying.. it's just not a fun course, I'll be honest. Plus we don't have the benefits of a native language speaker, as I've heard other Michel Thomas courses do - we are learning how to speak Spanish from a very old (now dead, RIP) Englishman.
But when it comes down to it, the lecture part of the language is extremely helpful. The grammar rules and the reasoning of the Spanish Language is taught at a basic level. The practicing of language recall is helpful, too - there's just not as much as I anticipated based on other reviews. I will be using it continuously until I outgrow it, but admittedly, begrudgingly.
