Banish the Goddess of Forbidden Magic, or die trying.
Two goddesses fight for control of Laeviin. For the Goddess of Time to win, she must gather one individual of each of the seven magics and open the portal between worlds, then banish the invading divine entity.
There’s just one problem. Time is frozen in-between space and reality. She calls to Nirel, hoping she can hear her.
The weight of failure threatens to shatter Nirel, but the constant whispers from the goddess pressure her to continue her mission. She’s trapped inside the broken timeline, and a jealous Corvin holds her captive. Even worse, she accidentally bound her life force to him, but her heart still belongs to Jase.
Stuck in the past and unable to travel through time, Jase and the others are arrested and questioned by the king’s men, which threatens everything.
They must unite to free Laeviin, but how is that possible when they can’t jump through time?
OMG what a perfect ending to the trilogy! If you haven't read this yet you are severely missing out. I'll definitely miss these characters, but I'm happy with where everyone is left at. 🥰
This is such a great ending to a wonderful trilogy!
I love that the author gives us a timeline in this book, especially considering with all the time jumping it made things a bit convoluted, but in a good way. It's such a small thing, but it was really thoughtful and helpful for a recap from the previous books.
This book starts off right from the moment we left in Dissonance, though this time it give us a bit of behind the scenes with the Goddess' that we have been missing. It opens up so many doors that we didn't even know were closed and answers many questions you might not have even had.
This book is much darker than the previous two, and the aforementioned behind the scenes look plays a big part of that. This is it. This is the conclusion and everything is on the line, the world ends or the timeline gets restored. This book had me on the edge of my seat many times as reveal after reveal came forward.
While we have a wide cast of characters, the author does a fabulous job of keeping them all straight and giving depth and backstory to each and every one of them. Sure, there were some characters I liked more than others, but I can't deny how each and every one plays a role. They all matter, and have wonderful character development. The author does well at delivering the information in a way that feels natural and doesn't overwhelm you.
Not a single moment of this book is unaccounted for at the end, which considering time travel is involved there could have been numerous plot holes. Bravo to the author for keeping them all straight and tying up each and every thread to give us a well rounded story. I can't imagine what her planning board looked like as she kept everything together!
This series is severely underrated. More people need to be talking about this and reading this series, as I promise you will love it. It has magic, political schemes, romance, villains for days and more!
I had to sit on this review and let my mind settle before I wrote it. What an incredible journey this has been!
Retribution starts off where we left things after Dissonance. This book definitely has a darker feel compared to the previous two: the stakes are higher than ever as we're reaching the climax of the story. There were definitely times when I was biting my nails, wondering how things could ever work out.
One of the things that I appreciated throughout this series is that problems that we may encounter in our real lives have in universe solutions that fit the world the author has built and make complete sense. The side characters aren't surface level. As a reader, we really get to know them throughout. What they love, their fears, their pasts. It may sound like a lot, but it's told in a manner that doesn't feel overwhelming.
The time travel aspect could've led to plotholes, and I applaud the author for closing all the threads while still leaving a window open for a potential sequel.
In my humble opinion, The Timekeepers of Laeviin series is an underrated romantasy trilogy that deserves more recognition. I can not recommend it enough when you're looking for a story that is written in a wonderfully immersive style, has political intrigue, a headstrong and passionate female main character, but also proper mental health representation.
If you want a unique fantasy story you will find it here. A lot of Romantasy books blur together in my brain because a lot of them have similar magic systems and plot. This trilogy will stand out from them all with its unique magic system and plot.
Without spoilers I had a very hard time figuring out which one I wanted to root for... I'm glad they got the endings they did, even if it it wasn't the endings all of them originally wanted.
Wow, wow, wow. This was such a fantastic read, and the prefect ending to Nirel, Jase, and Corvin's story. (Although, I do want more!)
The way the author connects each timeline and each POV was marvellously constructed. Everything made sense, everything clicked into place. I was so immersed in this book, I read it at every available opportunity, even at work--where I cried.
In my eyes, the best man won, however the way both Jase and Corvin's characters grew through this book was great. Jase becomes harder, more fervent, and his love for his friends and family is just honourable and perfect. And the redemption arc for Corvin was brilliant, so satisfying, but oh so heart-breaking.
But I have to say, my favourite character arcs throughout this book, especially, were Prisha and Raz. I absolutely loved these two. I want more from them!
I honestly couldn't put this book down, so if you are looking for a well written, hugely immersive, and unique fantasy series, you NEED to read this. Highly recommend this full series, and by far, this book is the best I've read this year!
