All of the animals in the kingdom take the reader through a story of a timeless reminder of what self esteem looks like. With vibrant colors and creative language, this picture book is a great story for children and shows all the different things they are capable of.

The very first thing you notice about this book are the beautiful illustrations. The colors are strong and demand attention from the reader. After looking through the book a number of times, each review revealed different details about the illustrations. Whether it be colors or actual drawing there is so much to be seen in this book. However, without the words there would be no meaning behind the story. The pictures and the text definitely work together; one is not better without the other. You can read through the story and take the time as well to look through the pictures and discuss what the students find interesting.

With that student being said, the text offers such an important lesson about self esteem. Each animal tells the reader what they think is special about themselves. This gives the child/reader something to relate to as well. When reading allowed you can ask students what they identify with in the story. This is such a great opportunity to have each student think about themselves and what they like. I love the meaning and didacticism behind the story. This book has so many different settings that it can be used in. Such as counseling sessions, at home, in school, etc. This is an all around great book to keep on your book shelf.

A group of animals known as “The Lovables” live in the kingdom of Self-Esteem. Each animal introduces themselves along with an attribute that best describes who they are in a simple rhyming poem. This book is a great self-esteem booster. All the animals accept one another for who they are and it is their differences that make up the kingdom of Self-Esteem. It sends such a positive message to children showing them that it is always important to embrace your “Lovable self” and to love yourself for who you are. This book would be especially good for children who feel like they don’t fit in, it gives them a sense of belonging. It shows that in order to be truly happy you need to first know how to love yourself, and only then will you be able to see what others see in you. The illustrations are bright and happy and children will love them. This is a great book that every parent should read to their child!

With a focus on feelings and an affirmation of those feelings, this would be a wonderful book to have in the classroom library. Each animal introduces a quality that they possess and emulate that may be shared with the child who is reading the text. This version says "board book" but I have the paperback version of this text.
