This was WAY too short and that’s the main reason it got only three stars. It was such a tease to get such a small part of the story and it left me feeling incredibly disappointed, I wanted much more from this story. It felt like it was just left hanging there incomplete. I did really enjoy seeing (part) of Clyde’s back story, it was quite interesting to see where he came from!

We all know my love affair with Ms. Blodgett's work. It is borderline stalkerish. However, I had serious doubts about me loving this book. I knew I would like it...come on, it's like Tamara guys. She's awesomesauce. Why, you ask, did I doubt my love then?
Well, let me tell you. I hate prequels. Period. Remember V.C. Andrews? Her estate wrote a bunch of prequels to most of her her original (written by her) series. Which was the Flowers in the Attic Series and Heaven...although I think she might have outlined Dawn...anyway I digress. That's not allowed and I am reviewing wrong. My apologies. I HATED them. No it's not because I didn't like the new ghost writer. I had no trouble following "V.C." through the Dawn Series, Ruby, and Melody. (Hey, I know that's not what the series are actually called. That is just how I think of them. Get off my back.)
I was, also, worried that without Jonesy, Caleb and Gramps that it wouldn't "feel" like a Death novel.
Boy was I WRONG. Not only are some of the gang in the book...but they are adorable. I can't say more. I'm trying not to be a spoiler hag.
Clyde alive and free...oh my. He was thee man! Whew, sensitive alpha male right there. He got stuff done even back in the day. Woo-wee. Clearly Clyde dies. That is not a spoiler guys. He's a zombie...Hello. It was sad. But awesome too. I love zombie Clyde. But I wish he could have finished his life too. It's a complicated thing folks.
When I finished I was like....that's it. Really? I want to know what happens next. Facepalm...Lori you idiot...it's called Death Whispers...you read it already!!! (And loved it. Of course. What kind of stalker would I be if I didn't).
Overall, this book is a great addition to the series and gives a lot of background. I feel like I understand much much more of this series and I am excited to see what happens next for the Death Crew.

This was a nice filler story to the series. I still think there is more to come from Clyde and this book confirms it. I wouldn't be surprised if his got something he needs to do t be able to rest. I liked how detailed it was I got a real feel for the period. It must be weird to be a science experiment and it seems all the kids are. I wonder how it'll back fire on them.

I am so excited that Blodgett wrote this amazing prequel to her Death series!!! While I never really had any nagging questions about how everything came to be, and I thought that Blodgett did a great job explaining everything, this novella really opened my eyes and filled in more areas of the series that I hadn’t even realized I wanted to know about!

Told between alternate time periods, following characters’ lives from the early 1900s to the mid 2000s, readers will learn about the life and death of our beloved Clyde, the beginnings of the human genome project, brain pulse, Parker’s inception with the Affinity for the Dead… and it’s all intertwined amazingly well.

I’ve been trying to decide when readers should read the prequel—should they read it prior to reading the entire series? Or maybe after the first or second book? Honestly, I can’t decide. Death Inception carries a lot of information that is great to know ahead of time, but I almost feel like readers should wait to read the prequel until they’ve read at least the first novel in the Death series so that they know the characters’ interworkings and love them as much as I do! Especially as this novella changed my perspective of a few of the characters, such as Parker, and getting to know their full stories, explaining who they are, and why they are the way that they are, was really exciting, so I like the idea of waiting to read the prequel until after reading at least the first novel in the series!! But, honestly, it doesn’t matter when you read the prequel, because it’s amazing and fits the story perfectly! Overall, I highly recommend this series and can’t get enough!!

Death Inception takes us on an adventure through two time periods … 1929 Clyde’s story and 2025 Jeffrey and the beginnings of Caleb Hart and how they intersect. Questions are answered…Who Clyde really is, how pulse technology came into being, Jeffrey Parkers story, the connection between Clyde, Jeffrey Parker and Caleb Hart and a just enough of Gramps to hold us over until the next book comes out. WOW! Tamara once again rocks are Death Series World!

Death Inception, prequel and novella for The Death Series, gives you extraordinary insight into many characters we’ve come to love. Although Tamara’s books give us plenty of depth into her characters, I think Death Inception was the icing on the cake… It was really sweet to enjoy and you wanted more even after you are done. Somehow Tamara Rose Blodgett managed to put into words her genius mind imaginations…and then wove into her outstanding action packed, twisting and twining perfection of a series! Now for the tuff question, would I read the prequel first…for me I liked not knowing the insight into Jeffrey Parker and the mystery of Clyde… so I would suggest reading this after Death Whispers. Don’t get me wrong Death Inception is definitely a must read and the character insight will blow you away, so that is purely my personal preference. I just liked the mystery then the OOOOHHH WOW factor to hit from Death Inception!

Excellent book from one of my favorite authors. Great background on the series and loved the development of Clyde. Great insight into Parker as well ... not disliking him quite as much now. :)

This prequel to the Death series was enlightening and revealed a lot about Clyde and Jeffrey Parker. I’m a big fan of Tamara and her writing. This novella was no exception to how much I love her work.

When Jeffrey’s life falls apart as his paranormal powers start to awaken, his life falls apart. The Graysheets take control of his life and he’s changed forever. It was particularly tragic seeing how the Graysheets took over Jeffrey’s life.

I was really excited to get a glimpse of Jeffrey as a teenager. He’s exceptionally smart and precocious. He has to become incredibly tough because of all the trauma he’s gone through. He’s also extremely determined. Jeffrey showed a side of himself that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen.

Seeing Clyde when he was alive was surprising and delightful. Clyde was a great character to explore. On one hand you want his story to have a happy ending on the other hand you know it doesn’t end well. It was tough. I still thought his story was sweet.

I thought the transitions from one story to another were smooth. There was never a sense of being jarred out of your senses or of their being a stilted conversation lag. There’s also romance in the story, but I’ll leave you to read it to find out whose romance it is.

Although I wanted to read even more once the book was through, I didn’t get the sense of an incomplete story. I think all good books leave you with the sense of wanting to prolong the experience no matter what, just like this one did.

Wow! I admit, I'm a HUGE fan of author Tamara Rose Blodgett, but I really think that woman could make a grocery list spellbinding! Death Inception is a short story that gives some MUCH appreciated background about some of her more intriguing characters in the Death Series, which revolves around the lives of genetically enhanced teens and their 'gifts.' First, anyone who has read the series knows and loves Clyde the Zombie, but what about his life before? I will say nothing except he was all I could have hoped for!!! Next comes Jeffrey Parker, a super-talented, super-intelligent, off-the-charts cadaver manipulator. Is he the dark, mysterious legend who runs with the bad guys? If so, what happened to bring him to that point? Is he really as he appears to be as we learn his story?

Sometimes an author kicks out a book with background, and it plays out like a skip in a record (black vinyl disks, think pre-digital music) or a scratch on the counter. It's distracting, but not Death Inception, it fits seamlessly with the rest of the series and makes the characters even more life-like!

Tamara Rose Blodgett's writing style is refreshing, with the ability to make you laugh, cry, sigh, and still be thinking about the story and characters long after that last page. I just wish she would write faster!

This book is much shorter than the previous two but helps fill in the gaps with some of the characters we have met. We learn more about Kyle, Caleb's dad and his work as a scientist. We learn about Jeffrey Parker, the good/bad guy that we are still in the dark about. And we also learn about Clyde. He still remains one of my favourite characters so learning his back story was brilliant. I really need to read the rest of these books as they just take you in and keep you there as the story unfolds. Definitely a series to recommend to all.

I now we wait until December for the next in the series. Another great book! I love that Tamara gives a view from other times and people in her series that aren't the main characters and now I love Clyde's character even more.

I got the first three in a box set and can't believe that I'm so hooked...just bought the 4th one! I have to see where these kids are headed! Tamara Rose Blodgett has such a way with words and knows the inner workings of her characters. They all have a depth that just grabs you from the beginning. I'm in my fifties, and I'm digging on these books! I have to say, she has a sense of humor that makes me laugh out loud! I would have hung out with these kids in school. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Being a truly Clyde fan, I was pleased to know about his life before death.
Now about Parker, he was a surprise or not but his story is sad, it intrigues me how it will turn out with Caleb in the middle of all.

I liked that this book fills in a lot of background from the first two books. The writing from the first two books felt a little juvenile. In this book, the writing for the parts of the story that didn't focus on the kids was a little better. I still feel that parts were still really cheesy.

Didn't under the need for this book especially as the 3rd in the series. Granted, it was nice to get a back story of Clyde and Parker, I felt this could have been thrown into either of the first 2 books.

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review.

Death Inception is the first book that I have read in The Death Series and it is also the first book that I have read by Tamara Rose Blodgett. It definitely won't be the last of The Death Series or the last book of her's that I read. I definitely plan on reading all The Death Series this year plus more of her works in the near future.

I really, really loved the new twist that Tamara Rose Blodgett put upon the zombies. I mean the way that they actually became a zombie. I love reading zombie books and it is very awesome when you find a new kind of zombie book to read.

When I started reading Death Inception with the two time differences at first I was like what does Clyde's world have to do with Jeffrey's world? How will the two blend in together? But it didn't take me long to know and understand how their two worlds/lives would interact. I loved how Tamara Rose Blodgett intertwined their stories.

Jeffrey was forced into a world that he had no knowledge of much less wanted to be a part of. But that is how the government usually works they don't care how or what you feel about anything. All they want is for you to do exactly what they say to do or want you to do. If it will make them richer that is all they care about is the money.

Jeffrey is forced into this world that he wants no part of but has no choice but to do what he is told to do. But the Graysheet people doesn't know Jeffrey as well as they think they do. Jeffrey is way smarter than they think and is only making them believe that he is doing everything they want.

When Jeffrey learns that they have another child a boy who has the same abilities as he does or at least they maybe similar as his. Jeffrey makes a promise to himself that he will not let them do to this little boy what they have done to him. Jeffrey has plans of his own that the Graysheets has no knowledge of. Jeffrey plans on blowing their minds with what he can do when the time is right.

Clyde is a boxer that only wants to make the money he needs to take care of his girlfriend and baby when it is born. Clyde's girlfriend doesn't like him fighting but it is the only way Clyde knows to make fast money so that he can give her and their unborn child the life they deserve. Clyde is the best boxer around for miles but as they say they is always someone out there better than you are and to never get to cocky. Which Clyde never actually did get too cocky but he was good and he knew it.

While Death Inception is a prequel to the Death series, I think the author did good by listing this at book 3 instead. I do think you can still read it first, but I feel like something extra would be missing from the reading experience. This novella alternates between 1929 and the early 2000s. It immediately grabbed me from the first page at the site of a familiar name. I formed a theory, but it wasn’t confirmed in this story, but I’m hanging on to it! I wouldn’t say that this novella is necessary to understand the main plot of the series, but it does provide a lot of background and extras that are nice to know.

I was always interested in how the Pulse technology came to be, as well as the beginning of the paranormal ability screenings. I had this nagging feeling in the back of my head during the first two books that something may not have been totally “right” with that process, and this caused me to be a bit suspicious of Caleb’s father. Luckily, he’s one of the characters followed and his role is all of this was cleared right up. I appreciated how the author gave us this glimpse into the past; it just adds to the already amazing world-building.

It was fun getting to see the characters in a different light, and that’s why I would recommend sticking to reading this one third. I believe it would take away some of the mystery of Clyde and Jeffrey that comes with meeting them in Death Whispers rather than in Death Inception. There are also a few scenes in the series’ present day that will make more sense if you’ve already read their occurrence in full. There are no spoilers, so you would still be safe to read this first if you so choose. Some mid-series novellas are completely useless, but this is not one of them. It may not be necessary to the plot, but it definitely contains some insightful information that you won’t want to miss out on.

This series must be read in order. The first book is Death Whispers (The Death Series). The second book is Death Speaks (The Death Series). This is the prequel but if fits into the series as the third book.

This book has been expanded since I first read it and I have to say it is awesome! It explains not only who Clyde is but what he is to both Parker and Caleb if you bother to read between the lines and pay attention. It also clears up a lot of mysteries about the way Parker became Tue way he is and his true intentions. On top of that you get to peek into the lives of Caleb's parents before he was born and see some of how Caleb was as a small child pre inoculations.

This book is a can't miss read full of insights and illuminations that tie together the whole series in a way I could not have anticipated. Unlike the last two books I found the revisions enlightening and truly worthy of being called awesomeness! I am even more hooked on this series now than I was years ago! I can not wait to reread the next book Death Screams (The Death Series) and will be starting it as soon as this review is finished :)

***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers

This book was great. It was nice to get some insight into the series before all the juiciness got started. I love Clyde. His story was sad but rest assured, it's not over for dear Clyde. :) Kyle, Caleb's dad, maps the human genome. Finds the paranormal markers, and the government inoculates the present(then)& next generations of kids. Some kids pop up with extra abilities others don't. One that did have paranormal abilities, Parker, has his life stripped from him by the government & vows that Caleb's life won't be like his. Nice of Tamara to do a prequel. I read this first and went into the DEATH series with no problems at all. Good start to a great series. :)

This very short read is the third book in the Death Series - however, the book acts as a prequel to the events of the main character, the brain pulse technology and the paranormal prosers of Caleb. At first I wasn't sure if there was much need for a prequel, having already suspended my disbelief enough to accept the plot of the story. But, I was surprised about the insights that this gave - particularly into Clyde the zombie! Although I was confused at first at the addition of a prequel, this short book reads very quickly and has left me interested in checking out the remainder in the series.

This has to be one of the best series I have ever read. Action from start to finish in each and every book. Caleb, Jade and their gang of cronies. Then we have Caleb and Jade's children, Deegan and Pax. Zombies. The risen dead. The future and the past. The Graysheets. Partnerships. Pregnancies. Wow. What a ride this series was. Absolutely loved it. I will put this exact same review on each of the books in the series to show just how much I enjoyed it.

Excellent prequel to the first two books. It fills in quite a bit of the gaps that a reader would have so far. The author changes her writing style to fit the different eras covered by this book, showing nice range to her writing skills. I was going to give this four stars, but it gets the extra star for making me care and cheer for the zombie...

a short introduction to Clyde and background to the paranormal phenomenon that Kyle developed. I liked Clyde story and will be interested to see how his second "life" works out. Jeremy's back story is sad, but it shows that where you come from isn't always where you finish.
working out when to buy the next book!
