OMGEEEZ. Geekin out here!!!! Gotta get my shit together to write a review that will do this book some justice! **Review** It's no surprise that I love Tamara Rose Blodgett's Death Series. Before this book I didn't think my love for her could get any more profound and deep. I was wrong. I have the biggest author crush on her. Is that even a real thing? Well it is now. This book was masterfully done. Caleb and crew certainly grew up ALOT in this one. The one lines and snark are still there in spades. However, Caleb is learning the real consequences of his actions. Not just from his court case and probation but from some problems that arise between himself and a certain member of the group. As Caleb says later in the book "Complications, Complications the story of my life".
Tamara-you almost gave me a heartattack toward the end of the book with all the crap you did to Gramps. I was like oh, no, she isn't going to kill my favorite character!
Even know I knew it was coming the cameo by the Savage folks was awesome. I was surprised to see that it felt more rounded and expanded in this book. Probably because I knew both side of the story. Reading the Savage series will help your understanding of the "Dome" world but it is not necessary. Tamara is a supremely talented writer and she gives the reader just enough background and information to understand what the heck is going on. Think of this as a teaser for one of her other beautiful worlds (that I am also completely in love with). Now to the man of the hour. CLYDE!!!! Clyde was present in a big way in this book. Honestly half the characters would not be alive if not for his supremeo awesome awesomesauce! Take a look:
"Master," Clyde breathed. My *spoiler*, my zombie. My friend. He turned his head to the side and a very human emotion stood there Fear and grief, mingled in a bitter pill of stark realization. "Save her" he begged. I grabed *spoiler's* small hand and felt death on the edges of her. I could taste it. I took some of the life I'd given Clyde and siphoned it off him for *spoiler*. As she bloomed like a flower, his spark faded. The action is BIG TIME in this novel and it showcases Tamara's beautiful writing style perfectly. CLYDE owned the show. I'm not kidding even Caleb acknowledges this "I smiled at Clyde, he got shit done". Yes, Yes he does. This book is simply amazing. If you are one of those people that doesn't like/trust glowing 5 star reviews---well it is simply impossible to dumb this book down to 3 stars. Sorry I cannot do that, nor do I want to, nor will I ever! You cannot make me. Now to compose a super stalkerish love letter to Tamara---kids---I already sent one of those months ago!
This was an intense read. With Caleb on probation, the parallel world of the sphere in jeopardy (I just love the intermingling of these two series!), and an insanity drug tearing Caleb’s friends apart, this novel keeps the reader immersed in its pages until the very last page. Be prepared to visit the entire spectrum of emotions as you read this harrowing novel, especially as Caleb must battle not only the physical threats around him, but also his inner turmoil and rage, a constant threat to those around him, and what landed him on probation in the first place.
If you’ve read The Savage Vengeance, then part of this novel involving the sphere will already be known to you, but Blodgett does a great job altering the scene so it focuses more of the teens in this version, than on the Band as in The Savage Vengeance version. And… unbeknownst to us readers when we first read TSV, but Caleb and his friends don’t just visit once, but twice—the second of which is the most savage and heart pounding or the two encounters (and if you’ve read TSV, then you know just how heart stopping the first encounter was!!!) .
I was on pins and needles throughout this entire novel, worried for the safety of everyone, but especially the females as worlds collide and the Graysheets willingly subject their own “creations” to highly evil circumstances. While I hate to ever add a spoiler in my reviews, I think it is important to note that there is no rape in this novel, or in any of Blodgett’s other novels, for that matter. While the fragment do exploit women, Blodgett has never written in a rape scene, or had anything so vile happen to any of her female characters. I think it is important to note this because, as a female, I know that I shy away from all novels that deal with such a vile, touchy topic, and sometimes so much as the fear of an allusion to rape will cause me to refrain from picking up a novel. So, readers, rest assured, no females are raped in this novel, though there are close encounters.
One of the things that I really love about Blodgett is how real her characters and situations are, even though elements of the paranormal are throughout the entire story. Blodgett captures the truth that is growing up and coming of age. The friendships, humor, heartache, and anger, are all present and very real. I especially loved how, in this novel, Blodgett tests Caleb and Jade’s connection, presenting truths to both that they were previously blind to, and I am highly interested to see where their relationship goes in future novels...
Death Weeps is intense. I was nervous in the beginning that things were going to get strange--not in a good way--but, wow, that second half is...well, intense. There is another time jump from Death Screams to Death Weeps, but we do get some flashbacks of Caleb's trial. This time jump does make sense, since I'm sure being on probation kept Caleb from participating in any dangerous and illegal activities. At the start of this fifth installment, Caleb is trying to remain in control of his abilities as he faces the consequences of his previous actions.
Caleb's POV is once again the main focus, but there are the occasional chapters from Clyde and Jade. Death Weeps also picks up a special POV from another of the author's series: Queen Clara from Savage! There is some crossover between these two series now, and I think the author handled it very well. Although I am disappointed that an extremely intense scene has been spoiled for me once I return to the other series. But I am eager to see it from Clara's POV, since I'm sure she has a very different reaction to the events than Caleb did. I don't want to spoil why these series collide, but I will just mention that the paranormal abilities didn't originate how we thought, and there are a few new ones introduced in this book. Clara's world also provides new problems for Caleb and his friends.
Death Weeps is much darker and much more emotional that the previous books. There is so much heartache for Caleb, especially when it comes to Jade. She's been placed in a less than happy foster home, and her foster brother is just another thing Caleb feels he must protect her from. There's also the connection that Jade now shares with Brett after the end of the last book. It's something that Caleb is having trouble dealing with. Jade is also feeling overwhelmed by Caleb's constant need to shield her from everything. She just wants to have a normal life and relationship.
This series just keeps getting better and better. Even though there are some things that I didn't like, I can't help but love these books. Death Weeps may have started off weaker than the other books to me, but it definitely picks up later on. Nothing is what it seems in Kent, and it looks like Caleb is close to bringing out all of the secrets. It's not just his world that's in trouble now, and I cannot wait to see how this all ends.
I really want to give the author props for another great story. Fair warning, there are a good number of grammatical errors. They were jarring for me, but I let it slide because the story is so well thought out. Caleb finally seems to be noticing his propensity for violence, which although can be necessary at times, seems to always be his first response. It's interesting to see men and boys whittled down to somewhat neanderthal means of 'must protect weak women.' I think that's my biggest issue with the series is that the chicks are always protrayed as weak and less than the guys. It's disheartening. But, it does push the story along. I actually feel badly for Jade. Caleb's anger management issues are actually very toxic in real life for someone with her traumatic background. I actually want her to leave him for someone more stable that will lift her up and make her better instead of keeping her weak. Despite my concerns, I still really enjoy reading these books and found the action in this particular novel to be page turning.
The stuff these kids go through is nothing short of amazing. Tamara has an imagination that is unrivalled! I can't wait to read the rest of this series, and see what else is in store for the characters.
The whole parallel world storyline was convoluted and unnecessary. There was still much to explore in the existing world, so this addition was a gratuitous diversion from the initial plot(s).
This book starts after Caleb is arrested for using his zombies as weapons, he got off with probation. Dealing with all the problems of his trial and the tension it causes all those he loves is not the only problems he and his crew are facing this book. The greysheets are doing their best to take him out, but they are not going at it too his face like they have before, this time it is much more sneaky and deadly to those he loves. His heart is in jeapordy as well. There is only so much Caleb can take before he loses it completely.
You would think being 27 and a mother of 3 would make a book like this seem too juvenile, but its really not. These kids face challenges and trials daily that most adults couldnt handle. The humor and attitudes of these kids are what I love most. I have never laughed as much reading a book as I do reading the books in this series. These kids crack me up. I make sure I read these books when I am alone or with family who dont care that I am crying cuz I am laughing so hard over a book.
I do recommend that you read Tamara's Savage series otherwise you might not understand completly a few parts of the book where the kids do some travelling to another parallel world. The world is very unique with the different species of humans you will read about. You will grasp the concept of course, so dont worry there, but for full understanding read the other series too.
And Tamara, reading about that last trip to the other world it is really making me scared for the next Savage book. That was like a slap in the face (a good slap though) preview into the next book, or books, and I am scared for the characters of that series that I love so much.
As always Tamara's writing is excellent, I dont even remember finding a spelling mistake which I almost always notice while reading. The way she has weaved these two worlds together(from 2 of her book series) is amazing. She pulled off what many could not. Tamara you rock!!
I tend to ramble a lot and bounce around a bit so bear with me. There was no shortage of action, humor, mystery, and love in this book so no disappointment there. Gale and Clydes relationship is one of a kind, and I love reading about the attraction and love these 2 feel for eachother.
Poor Jade has more struggles going into this book. After all that girl has gone through I had hoped she would get some downtime to renew herself, but we may have to wait for the next book for that. There was a time in this book that I did not like her. I know she wasnt herself due to what the greysheets were doing, so I tried to cut her some slack, LOL.
We have all the old enemies do deal with, plus some new ones. A lot of lingering questions were explained in this book, and yet we are still left with tons question for the next book. Then we have those who we are not quite sure if we can trust, like Brett. After the life transference that happened with Brett and Jade in the last book, we all wondered how that would effect them, lets just say more than we could have guessed. Brett while nicer, and less of a douch in this book, is still a jerk IMO. Then there is Parker. He was a bad guy, then kinda a good guy helping out, then bad, then okay, but this book clears all that up. And we get yet another startling revelation about who he really is.
The only thing that I disliked about this book was that
Would I recommend this book? Absolutly! To everyone of all ages! Will I read this book again? Oh yes I will Will I read the next book in series? Yes! I cant wait!
Caleb and the gang are all back and the excitement is non-stop. Caleb is on trial for murder by Zombie. Jade is turned over to an unsavory family for foster care and there seems to be something sinister laying just under the surface. An unexpected alliance is offered to Caleb by Parker…and Parker hints that the dimensional jumper (Randi) might know where Caleb needs to go to figure out the key to defeating the Greysheets. In attempting to save his own world, Caleb and friends are caught in a battle (war of sorts) when they jump into the other dimension. You’d think that was enough... but then Caleb and the gang return from the dimensional jump that's when things seem to go from bad to worse. I think Caleb says it best when he says, “The probation was not expired, I was living with Gramps, Garcia was a pawn on the chessboard for the Graysheets, Gale and Clyde faced prejudice at every turn and Brett was a complication that got bigger every day. Hell it loomed." Yes, the Greysheets were really coming out to play now… Caleb’s friends and loved ones are coming up marked with a star scar, slowly drugging them into insanity. He must find the cure in time and save his friends.
Caution! This book is going to blow your flip flops off! Pretty much non-stop action, emotional rollercoaster, great romantic tension, fantastic character interaction, super alpha males, awesomely strong females and the ever fabulous witty repartee we’ve come to love. I love the transition between the way the language is adjusted to accommodate the different dimensions locale. To top it off, many secrets about the Greysheet and the paranormal abilities are revealed! I have to admit I didn’t want to put this book down. I definitely found another favorite and I know this is now my new favorite in this series! Awesome job Tamara Rose Blodgett you even had me yelling at my kindle!
I’m not sure where to begin this review or what to say. I loved this book so much! If you do read this book, you should read Blodgett’s Savage series because there is crossover. If you happened to read my review of Savage Vengeance or if you read the book, then you know a little bit of what happened. Read my review here. In Death Weeps, we get the story from Caleb’s point of view and more information about the crossover.
What I love about Blodgett’s writing is that in this book it becomes more polished while maintaining its original flavor. There were moments when the book got a little over the top but that’s what makes it great! It’s what I’ve come to expect of these books. It’s like a comic book with a big balloon word that says “pow!” You expect a little over the top punch.
Caleb and the gang have gotten older and their maturity has reflected such a change. It was a job well done. Their growth was seamlessly integrated into the story as there was a lot of action to absorb.
Clyde’s character was also more fully developed. If you haven’t read the novella, Death Inception then do. It gives you a more in depth look into his past and how he became a zombie. I kind of fell a little in love with Clyde when I read Death Inception.
The Graysheets, the evil government agents, are more heinous then ever. I grew to hate them even more. As the book wore on, Caleb’s purpose in life became even more clear and he may be meant for more then simply escaping the clutches of the Graysheets.
If you haven’t picked up this series, what are you waiting for? It’s exciting, it’s fun, it’s romantic. The final book is coming out soon. I’m both looking forward to it and dreading it as I don’t want this series to end.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Death Whispers (The Death Series). The second book is Death Speaks (The Death Series). The third book is the prequel Death Inception (The Death Series). The fourth book is Death Screams (The Death Series). This is the fifth book.
This series has more twists and turns than you could ever expect. The exploration of everyone's powers always seems to come with a price and Caleb's price is to be on probation now all because he used a zombie (Clyde) to help save Jade's life when her father was trying to kill her. Brett actually killed Jade's father with an illegal weapon and got in no real trouble at all. Pretty much people are scared of Caleb's abilities so if he even thinks about crossing a line they will make him pay big time. Even though Jade's father killed her aunt and beat Jade almost to death Caleb still has to pay the price.
Randi experiences a jump in powers unexpectedly and whole new worlds of trouble open up for the gang. Especially as her mother (the principal) is none too pleased in her abilities or the company she keeps. This is an exciting development for the kids as they have been overly bored due to the enforced Dead free life Caleb's probation has forced on them. School is still school but no new members are added to the group even though the enemy list is growing steadily.
This book made me wonder how far interconnectedness could stretch... I really am excited to read the next book as I am sure it has even more surprises in store than this one did! Unrequited Death (The Death Series) is my next read for sure!
***This series is suitable for very mature young adult through adult readers
This book was soooo good. Tamara combined SAVAGE with DEATH and made it wonderful. Caleb is on probation for using Clyde to defend himself against his old Sensei who was targeting the AP girls & Jade. Jade is now in a foster home since her Aunt passed away. They're really weird. One of her 'brothers' is a total Creeper. Ughhh...it's that bad. Caleb & Crew must stop the Graysheets from ruining a parallel world, Clara's world. Caleb & Crew literally pop up and save Clara & her kingdom from these creepy Graysheets. Only to find, that when they did, the Graysheets had a plan B. So, they then return to Clara's world. Craziness happens and Caleb now has to deal with the government and the mind crazy drug that his friends have been given, specifically, Jade. It makes her crazy-like. She doesn't trust him. She believes Caleb will hurt her. She then turns to Brett. At the end of this book Brett saves Jade and dies. Jade has that connection with Brett and Jade had assumed that she wouldn't be with Caleb because he was her addiction. After the antidote and a week or so, Jade is finally back with Caleb but question and certain people lurk about leaving it open for the final installment of DEATH.
I read a bunch of reviews of this book before writing my own review. Seems that the other world that is in this book, is part of another series the author wrote. Having no clue about this other series & never having read it, I was totally confused over the whole thing. It did not work for me. I had really been into the kids & their powers. Then a new power of traveling to parallel worlds appears & then we find out the Graysheets had a way to get mundanes there & wha??? Totally lost me. I am not dumb, but when a book adds a whole new world in, it would be nice to give a bit more info to those of us who have not read the other series this world is in. Between this, the dog still getting his say, the continued possible abuse of Jade & the confusion over all the stars appearing & the fact they will all go crazy, yet no one will be able to put that together I just quit reading. Also, Parker supposedly had no relatives & no he's related to Caleb? I can see the Clyde connection to Parker, but Caleb too? No. So done. I was really getting into the books until this. Just not my cup of tea.

oh, my lord, i am so in love with these books!!! Clyde is by far my favorite character. i'm a weirdo anyway but to fall in love with a semi well dead man, RIGHT UP MY ALLEY lol....sorry my puncuation sucks :/ i don't care. i just had to tell you how much i LOVE LOVE LOVE all your books, all of them. i'm starting Savage book 3 and i would have started it tonight had i not realised Weeps was available, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...i may finish it in a few hours and start on the 3rd savage, lol!! i can't wait to buy all your others. If u ever need an assistant; i'm your gal ;)!!! love you and your outstanding imagination! thanks so so so much!!! lots of love, candace rae'marie ragsdale
while I still really enjoy this book series and everything about the futuristic world that they live in, I'm having a hard time finding an understanding of the purpose of the other world. was it just a way to showcase Randi's new ability? though, I really liked the interaction when they first arrived, but the most recent trip back didn't seem to further the story along, to me it felt almost like it was allowing the pace down.
I am somehow not shocked that parallel universes have come to play in this series. This has got to be one of the most interesting series I have ever read. Caleb grew which was really needed. A lot more of the hidden plot twist were uncovered which made things even more mind blowing, and the emotional level and investment for me as a reader was high. So far I have given every one of the books 5 stars. This is a first for me. Seriously. I can usually find something to knock a star off.
This has to be one of the best series I have ever read. Action from start to finish in each and every book. Caleb, Jade and their gang of cronies. Then we have Caleb and Jade's children, Deegan and Pax. Zombies. The risen dead. The future and the past. The Graysheets. Partnerships. Pregnancies. Wow. What a ride this series was. Absolutely loved it. I will put this exact same review on each of the books in the series to show just how much I enjoyed it.
as usual I was expecting to be let down as the story progresses, the dome world was a little out there, but fortunately it made sense. on to the next book, I'm really looking forward to seeing how these characters end up. and to me that is the mark of a good writer: they make me care about the characters....
So glad that Caleb is growing up as far as his vocabulary. If it hadn't been for the awesome storyline, I would have put this series down. This definitely gets my vote for best series I have read this year. Seems fitting since Unrequited Death comes out December 31! Cant wait!
