A few discover that they are keys to Zondorae’s experiments. History cannot be changed, events have already been set in motion but in the end will Caleb and his friends have a decision in the course?
Unrequited Death is the final book in the Death Series. For me, it a very sad day to see this brilliant series end, but what a glorious ending! Fast paced and action packed the conclusion was splendidly written, giving us closure but leaving us craving more. The characters we watch grow up, like proud parent, are now fabulous adults but they still retained their witty banter and incredible snark. Heartfelt drama, laugh out loud commentary, nail biting action is everything we come to expect and love about Tamara Rose Blodgett’s writing. Unrequited Death is the perfect icing to this superb series!

Amazing! I could almost end my review right there, but that isn't enough to say about the final book in the Death Series! From page one, Book One, it's as if a gun went off, the race was on and the Death Gang were fighting for their existence! The journey through the years was an incredible ride, right up to the final page of this book!
Jeffrey Parker is back, looking all evil and villainous one minute, and fighting alongside Caleb the next! The Greysheets are once again, threatening the lives of the paranormals with their less-than-honorable agenda. The Zondorae brothers have crawled out from under their rock and are trying to gain control of the fate of gang, as well as the future of all paranormals. What other evils have been forced on all of the unsuspecting, genetically enhanced kids? Do any of them have a future?
I feel like I am saying good-bye to these kids, because they have grown up and are moving on to futures unknown, fully adults now. (Okay, maybe all but Jonesy is fully adult!) I'm going to miss Gramps, Onyx, everyone!
Thank you, Tamara for sharing your gift with us!
Clyde, I love ya!

In trying to keep this review spoiler free I will not recap any of the happenings and instead jump straight into "review mode".
It's here at last. The end of Death. But does death ever really end? I'm not sure. The character growth is the biggest thing that happens in this book. They all grow up. Except maybe Jonesy, and I am unsure if he will ever lose that spark/snark that makes him, well, Jonesy. This is new adult. There is sex, there is cussing and even a small "drug" reference. As always I love it when Ms. Blodgett goes teen with her big amazing writers voice. Even the raw unedited form of this book flowed like a full edited book. The book does jump around in time and there are a few pov changes but everything still flows beautifully. There are hard knocks throughout the book and I may have sobbed at one point.
I can't say enough about this book, but I fear that I will say too much. However, I will say that this was a wonderful ending to the Death saga.
Now everyone join me in voicing your love of Gramps and the need for a Gramps back in the day Novella. Oh and more Clyde.
This book is amazing! In my humble opinion, it is actually the best of all the Death Series novels, but all six books are phenomenal, so, in all honesty, it’s hard to place one over another. Tamara Rose Blodgett has accomplished a lot in the last two years, from her very first novel release, Death Whispers, to the creation and promotion of two other great series, Blodgett has worked diligently to provide her readers with the next installment of her books in an extremely timely fashion. And, in doing so, it’s come to the point that she’s now completed the beloved Death Series. It is a sad day in that it has all come to an end, especially as I’ve been drawn to these novels since the very beginning.
Over the last two years, I’ve learned a lot about Caleb Hart’s future world. I’ve made some great friends, laughed extremely hard, felt pain, hatred, and happiness, as well as extreme love. With the completion of this novel, I truly feel like I’m losing a small piece of my soul—my friends have grow up and will no longer grace the pages of a Blodgett novel, which is a bit heartbreaking. The main groups’ coming of age, from ages 14-25, has been amazing to watch as Blodgett carefully wove her story together, creating extremely real, vivid, and loveable characters, and I hate, just hate, to see them go.
This novel is extremely special. It touches on exceptionally difficult topics, yet Blodgett treats them all with genuine care. And, though I was a bit nervous to dive in, especially as the synopsis alluded to a very dark experience for Tiffany, I don’t think it could have been written any more delicately than Blodgett has written it. And though there are sections of the book that will make readers flush with anger and cry for the all the characters’ pain, it’s perfect. Absolutely perfect, and I wouldn’t want the story to unfold in any other way.
Even though there are passionate sexual experiences in this novel, and yes, they’re fairly explicit (though short), and I always shy away from situations like this in my books, what I liked about Blodgett’s inclusion of them is that it’s taken five novels, extreme character development, and years of friendship for the characters to actually act on their feelings. It’s not a one-three month relationship where the characters can’t contain their “love,” but actually a true love story in which the characters have developed and matured to the point that they are ready for more. There are also real life consequences for their actions, which is another aspect of the novel I loved, because, unlike so many novels that I’ve read where sexual relations just seem to be there to be there, Blodgett actually works it into the mainstream plot. And sex is acted upon through true love, showing our teen readers what a healthy relationship is like, and how all decisions have consequences. It’s great to see a teen novel get it right, and that’s exactly what Blodgett does in this sixth book.
For those of you who have read the entire series and are awaiting this final novel, I believe you will love it just as much as I do. It couldn’t be any more perfect. And for those of you who haven’t read any of the series, or only part of the series, well, this is a series you will not soon forget. It’s full of wonder and true-to-life characters, dialogue, and situations that will make you connect to the characters in ways you didn't know you could connect to fictional characters from a book. I highly recommend this series, and am hoping that maybe, just maybe, a spinoff series is in order. Five stars for a truly perfect ending.
I was a bit disappointed with Unrequited Death. It’s the big finale of the Death series, but I mostly feel confused. I also have some unanswered questions that I thought for sure would be answered more clearly. There is once again a time jump, but this time it’s about a year and a half. Caleb and Company are graduating from High School, and it’s not exactly as happy and exciting as it should be, since the Graysheets are still at large. It’s just a matter of when they’ll strike again. Tiff is also not her usual smart-mouthed self thanks to events of that past fall.
Unrequited Death does alternate between after graduation and the start of senior year. I thought this worked, to an extent. Nothing really happens in between these two periods, so alternating works better than having another time jump. However, I was confused a lot of the time. For some reason I just couldn’t keep the timeline straight. It didn’t help that sometimes the time would change mid chapter. It wasn’t just the moving from past to present that had me scratching my head either. It was also hard to tell how much time was passing between scenes. Occasionally I would think a character was suppose to be in one place, but they’d turn out to be in another because it was the next day, or week, or other passage of time. This was my only major issue with this book, or the entire series really.
A more minor issue that I had with Unrequited Death as an ending was the addition of several new characters and plot threads. I think there was more than enough material from the previous books to pull together without these additions. More characters and more threads just made the story more twisted and complicated before anything got resolved. Tiff’s was the secondary plot, and while it held my attention, I didn’t feel like it needed to be there. It was tragic, heart stopping, but generally unnecessary.
The ending of Unrequited Death is one of my least favorite types: a Chick Lit ending. I love Chick Lit and I love happy endings, but the whole marriage and baby scenario bothers me. I’m not saying that those things are bad, but I don’t like how so many characters have to have a wedding and a child to attain their happy ending. Was it the right ending for these characters? Probably, but I still rolled my eyes at it, especially since one of the instances was glaringly obvious from the beginning. Overall, I did enjoy Unrequited Death as a book, but as a finale it left me wanting.
This was a bittersweet read!! When I saw it was released a few days early, I was excited to download and read it right away. Then it hit me...... this would be the last book in the Death series!! I laughed, I cried, I raged!! I was NOT let down!! The ending came to soon, but it was another great story from Tamara, and only adds to the long list of excellent stories she continues to gift to readers everywhere!! While I am sad to say goodbye to Caleb, Jade, Clyde, Gramps, the J's, and all the death characters we have come to love, I am glad to have been given the opportunity to have met them!! Goodbye my friends!! You will be missed!!! Thanks for the awesome ride Tamara!!! Who knew Death would be so much fun!!!!
nice ending for this series! very satisfying, and now I have a new author to add to my list of favorites...Thanks Tamara, and of course your boys for the idea, Caleb is a great main character..
Wow!! I cried tears of sadness & tears of joy!! It was amazing!! I'm sad it's over but I have a feeling something might spin-off. Whatever it is, it'll be just as magnificent. ;)
This is my second time reading this series!i can’t come up with anything I dislike ! You are one of my favorite writers ! Thanks for working so hard to ‘ get it rIght! Would suggest your writing to ever age group! True masterpiece in every way!
This one was good. No doubt. But a but boring. Some side stories were too prolonged for me which made it weird. This book felt like a filler or a not so good ending.
I rated this 4 stars because overall, I did like the book. However, maybe I took too much time in between books, because it did take me a little time to wrap my head around what was going on. Another reviewer said it best...there were times were I was confused. It started with the fact that the book jumped ahead by more than a year. We start with Caleb and friends graduating from high school. Not necessarily a bad thing if not much went on during that time frame, but we'll learn that isn't the case. And this brings me to the next part that added to my confusion....the storyline alternates between after graduation and periods within their senior year. As the story progressed, it kind of came together, and didn't seem so odd to be jumping back and forth through time. There were times that I just wasn't sure if I was in the present or past because one minute there were in one place, then they were doing something else...was that because they were looking back again or just that transition stage between scenes? It took about midway through the book before it finally all started to click for me.
So we start with graduation and the look back throughout senior year...not to inconsequential things, but to the one major event that really had an impact on the group. All things seem to lead to how the Graysheets and Zondorai brothers continually try to tear this one group of teens apart. Not that they don't seem to have issues with their peers. That would be totally unlike teens today. The look back highlights what Tiff will face and how that changes the dynamics of the group. Although they are growing up, they are also still very much the same lovable group they've been since the beginning.
There were definitely a few areas I was surprised by, yet not. If you have not read the book, you may want to stop reading at this point since spoilers are ahead!
All in all, still a great series. If you're not a fan of teen snark or teen books in general, then this may not be for you since they do start young. This last book takes them into their twenties, but to get here, you're definitely going to want to read the entire series.
Damn, how I hate the end of a series. I stumbled on the first of this 6 novel series a few months ago, reading it on a whim. Needless to say I was sucked in within the world of AFTD's, empaths, and nulls. Since this the last book in the series I want to talk a bit about each character that I, for one, favored in this series. I feel as if each one is a good friend that I have spent quite a bit of time with.
I recently just finished a book that had a male protagonist and didn't care for him at all. I even made the comment that it might be because I don't read hardly any books with them. Nothing against a good solid male character, but it is what it is. I had TOTALLY forgotten about the Death series!! Caleb has all kind of issues and if you have read any of the other books you know why. AFTD is Affinity for the Dead. And needless to say Caleb can do it all. Too feeling the presence of dead people to raising them from the ground to do his bidding. There's so much more to his gift but I musn't gush too much because if you haven't read these books then, firstly, you're missing out. Secondly, after reading all of them I don't know what I might give away. I see them as a whole now and can't remember what happened in which book. (I digress)
Jade, good ole Jade. She's an empath and a pretty powerful one too. Her struggles in her early childhood leading in to her teen years were rough and sometimes hard to read. It made you appreciate that no matter what a person acts like, you never really know what's going on in home life.
The J's. Jonesy, if I had to pick a less favorite of this bunch it would have to be him. Worse thing, I know people like him. Immature most the time, not knowing when to shut up. Oh, that boy got on my nerves sometimes lol but it wouldn't have been the same without him. John reminded me so much of my fiancee it's ridiculous. Minus the red hair anyway.. Smart, good head on his shoulders all around good guy.
Tiff is probably my favorite one in the book. She's also AFTD but not to such a high degree as Caleb. She serves as a kind of battery for Caleb when he needs her. I loved her crassness and how she was right there with the guys all the time. She reminded me a lot of myself in high school, so maybe that's why I had such the soft spot for her. Plus some of the stuff she deals with in this book hit home for me and I connected with her in a level I wasn't expecting.
There are more, but none of the others I cared about like I did these. If you're still reading this, you're awesome for appreciating (maybe?) what I wanted to do here. I have to admit I'm sad that I won't be anxiously waiting another one. This was not my favorite in the series, reason for the 4 stars. But if Miss Blodgett came out with another installment I'd be tickled pink. (hint, hint!) :)
For it being the last installment, I believed it ended really well. Left room for something to maybe happen in the future, but left me with a nice farewell to characters and story I have come to love.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Death Whispers (The Death Series). The second book is Death Speaks (The Death Series). The third book is Death Inception (The Death Series). The fourth book is Death Screams (The Death Series). The fifth book is Death Weeps (Death Series). This is the sixth book.
This book was beyond unreal. I adored almost all of the characters and to see them so torn and threatened was just crazy. The Greysheets are at it again trying to push their own agenda in the dark and hidden from the rest of the world. From a world so technologically advanced the thought they could fly under the radar is almost impossible to believe until you remember they are the ones who engineered the technology in the first place and then it becomes disturbingly plausible.
This is definitely a book where action is non stop and coming from all sides ramping up the suspense and intrigue to never before see levels. Who can be trusted? And how far will they go to further the safety (or obliteration) of the group? no one is sure exactly how far the conspiracy goes or who is on what side at any given point. Further down the rabbit hole is where they must go to find the ultimate answers.
I love this series and am glad there will be more! The transition from a ya series to an adult one was very smooth and natural and made major sense for the progression of the story line. To stay young adult would have been impossible to say the least! I cannot wait for the next book For the Love of Death (The Death Series) to come out!
As this is the last book of the Death series, I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Uneven pacing in the plot kept me off-kilter and unable to get into the rhythm of the book. But the promise of the unveiling of the Graysheets and the futher adventures of Caleb and the gang kept me turning the pages.
There were more romance scenes in this book, progressing to more then just a few stolen kisses. But some of the love scenes seemed abrupt and rushed. I think two of the characters, Parker and Nevaeh, were supposed to be rushing off on a mission. Instead they were ripping each other’s clothes off with absolutely no foreplay. I didn’t feel any chemistry or romance between them. I thought it was one of the most awkward love scenes I’ve read and it was more like a parody then a heated romance.
Things were wrapped up nicely with Caleb and Jade, but where the other characters were concerned things were lacking. As the last book of the series I expected more resolution with the other characters. They were given prominent roles during the whole of the series. I would have liked a little more closure with them.
While disappointed, this book was still worth the read. If nothing else then to get the low-down on the Graysheets and to find out how Caleb and Jade get their happy-ever-after.
I received this book as a Random Reader Award from Tamara (so excited about that!). Unrequited starts out with yet another transition for the gang, as tends to happen with teens...but these characters continuously take transition to a whole new level. Throughout the book time goes from current to past but runs together smoothly. I have to say I'll miss the adventures from this crew as this is the last book. The book had so many things happen, sad and wonderful. We get to see the adults these teens become. Jonesy is well...still Jonesy. Gotta love that character! It's hard to give a full review without actually giving away anything from the book. I've typed...deleted...typed, then deleted again. Just can't do it. I don't like spoilers so I won't do it to anyone reading this. Tamara has ended the series with a fantastic book and story...as I knew it would be. I loved the book and recommend it and the series to everyone!
I know there's another book in the series, maybe even two, but I feel that this was a good place to end the series for me. I'd have even ended the book happily after the Helix Corporation was taken down and it's leaders disposed of, but there was still another 100 pages to read.
As the kids in the story got older, the level of sex in the book increased which is just not something that I enjoy in the middle of my zombie books. It just seemed out of place at the time, like when Parker and Nevaeh were being chased by the Graysheets' assassins they decided to take a break for a couple of hours.
She's been one of my favorite character s in the story, because of how tuff opinionated and loyal she is, she also wasn't the the stereotypical teen. also like they way her relationship grew over time instead of being instant or drama filled like Calab and Jonsey. Yet for a nice bit of this story she was like a different character she remind me more of jade. I was hoping she would have cause Sophie and buddy situation really annoyed me
This has to be one of the best series I have ever read. Action from start to finish in each and every book. Caleb, Jade and their gang of cronies. Then we have Caleb and Jade's children, Deegan and Pax. Zombies. The risen dead. The future and the past. The Graysheets. Partnerships. Pregnancies. Wow. What a ride this series was. Absolutely loved it. I will put this exact same review on each of the books in the series to show just how much I enjoyed it.
This was a great ending to the series and was not preachy the way many young adult books can be. (***Spoilers***Allert***) I love the idea that death could be unrequited just as love, that it can be one sided. I also liked that the series was ended, but the characters held so much promise that they were naturally ripe for their own separate series.
This is a first. 5 stars for every book. Can't say I have done it before. The series is worth it. At least to me. I have to use my summer vacation to acquire all the book by this author and read them. Tamara Rose is just that good.
I have read this series and do believe this is my favorite book of them so far. I look forward to reading further installments to this series. I especially like the characters evolving through the series and prospects of what may develop.
