New Zealand poet. She immigrated to New Zealand in 1951 at age twelve. She studied at Ardmore Teachers' Training College, then taught for two years, returning to the College to lecture in English literature for a year.
Ensing earned a master's degree in 1967, and was appointed to a position in Literature in the English Department at the University of Auckland. There she taught till 1999 when she took early retirement. She has since been appointed an Honorary Research Fellow (Faculty of Arts) and in 2002 was a Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellow.
Was in Devonport yesterday with girls from work and found a copy of this in a second hand bookshop. We are reading poetry as our next theme for book group at work so I've got poetry on the brain at the moment, especially since my sister had arranged for a copy of The art of walking upright by Glen Colquhoun to be sent to mine and insisted on me reading some of the poems and I was hooked.
I always think I struggle with poetry but I don't. I'm also reading Crimson by Marino Blank and all three books actually sing to my heart. Why have I left it so long?
