One Winter Weekend

Rate this book
Every town has its secrets.

Except for Grant, Alabama, where everyone knows everything about everyone. Or so it seems.

Four years ago, bartender Gus Petrelli left behind the stress of Manhattan for the serenity of Grant. Reserved and mysterious, Gus has perfected emotional walls, keeping everyone at arm's length - even the one person he would like to know better, Jenna Rae Hemmer, a stunning and sweet-natured local singer. But Jenna Rae is already spoken for by newcomer Harlan Hayes, a drifter twenty years her junior who quickly takes up with the wrong crowd.

When Gus' bar is robbed, and he is faced with losing everything, his trust in people is tested to the fullest. Who is responsible for the stolen cash? Is Jenna Rae hiding something, or is she simply a victim of Gus' insecurities? Can he make peace with his tragic past? Or, will Grant, Alabama ultimately be his downfall?

I love this author's eloquence. This was a light easy read with rich sublime details. The numerous characters, in a small town, were distinct and easy to keep sorted. Glimpses into past 'loss' experiences of several characters, offered insight to their choices. Multiple mysteries are woven elegantly; and every loose end is tied up for a gratifying finish. Still, the ending left me hoping that this is the beginning of a character series.
