JADEN BAKER is stoked about college, new friends, and a second chance to erase the memory of being bullied through high school. But moving on comes with a price. Her dad has made arrangements for her to move into her brother’s apartment so her brother can watch over her like she was a baby. But there's a glitch in her dad's plans. There are also two roommates living in the apartment too. Suddenly, living in an off campus apartment with three college-aged boys seems like a bad idea -- but not to Jaden. After all, Cade is pretty damn hot, making the whole forced living arrangement and new baby-sitter a little more tolerable.
CADE JENKINS grew up on the opposite side of the tracks from his best-friend and his privileged little sister. His dad bailed when he was a kid, and he can't help but still care for his drug-addicted mother. But things are looking up. He's met someone. Too bad she's his best-friend's fresh out of high-school, inexperienced little sister. Awkward!
Just when it looks like things might be changing for the better, Jaden finds herself battling severe depression and a broken heart when her high school bully targets her once again. Cade, who'd love to pick up the pieces and make her whole, must fight his own demons and family trouble.
If only they didn't find themselves falling irrevocably in love.
Here With Me by Alla Kar releases soon, October 28th to be exact. I got myself an advanced copy and I am excited to share my review with all of you before it goes LIVE. I looked over the synopsis before reading, and I figured I knew what to expect. I was a bit off in my predictions on the levels of sexual intensity and I got more than I expected in such a wonderful way. I got a leading female I wanted to route for, a villain I wanted to scream at and punch in the face, and a dirty-mouthed sexy leading man. Here With Me did not disappoint and I recommend you give it a read.
I do have one complaint. I will get it out of the way quick and move on because there are so many better things to gush about. My one beef is that Cade calls Jaden, “Princess”. I’m sorry, but this is generic and so overused. I read a lot of books and in every third YA/contemporary romance novel the guy calls the girl Princess. I think it mostly bothers me because since it is used so often it reminds me of those douchy guys who just call every girl by the same pet name, as to never mistakenly call her by the wrong name. I am not a huge fan of terms-of endearment in general, most of the generic ones I find cheesy. Authors, I say you let “Princess” R.I.P. forever.
All right, now that that’s out of the way, lets get to the good stuff! Cade - “I’m the furthest thing from a good boy you’re ever going to see.” The muscles in his arms flex. “Believe me.” That’s okay, Cade. Everyone loves a bad boy, including me. Dark hair, green eyes, and tattoos complete Cade’s bad boy package. He’s hard working and takes care of his struggling momma, even if she wasn’t a pro at taking care of him.
Jaden - “Because I want to be needed.” I loved this statement. So many of us struggle with what we want to say and telling someone what we need. Jade showed her bravery in the face of an intimating man, and puts it all out on the table. I don’t think we could get any more self-reflective or honest than a statement like this.
Jaden is a girl trying to find her place in a world where she feels unwanted. Her classmates are cruel to her, her dad thinks money fixes everything, and her one friend didn’t stick by her side. She’s alone and looking for a fresh start. She thinks she can just pick up and start over, but most the time you can’t because your un-dealt with demons will follow you in one way or another. Jade - I can’t really explain how you feel when you realize your life isn’t worth living anymore. And I can’t tell you when you’ll reach that breaking point because everyone is different. But I can tell you when you feel that emptiness, that hollow torment take over your soul—that it’s hard to get back from it alone.
There are a couple people in Here With Me that you just want to punch: Will, Justin, but most of all – Selena. I don’t think there was “this girl” in my high school but honestly I was absent more than present so I might have missed her; and my college is large so I still haven’t run across her. This type of girl must exist though because you hear about the cyber-bullying going on and the awful stories you hear about kids on the news. Even if we haven’t met her you know the girl I am talking about. Selena is everything that gives girls a bad name. She is cruel, evil, immature, and never one to let go of a childish grudge. My only guess is that behavior like this comes from extreme insecurity. Even if in reality this girl is the girl I hope no girl strives to be, she is the perfect antagonist for a story. While reading, you found yourself wanting to stand up for Jaden and put this girl in her place.
All right now that I have poisoned your brain with thoughts of the evil Selena… let me make it better by giving you some more of Cade.
Cade - “But I am going to kiss you. All night if you want. Just let yourself feel safe and free tonight. Don’t worry about pills or jackasses, just me.” Swoon, this badass has a sensitive side, and what’s not to love about that. Alla Kar writes the perfect mix of sweet and steamy for Cade. Sweet: “Jaden, I don’t care where we are, as long as you’re here with me, I don’t give a shit.” And now see steamy Cade from Jaden's point of view: “Say it,” he growls. “Yes, more. Please.”
I do believe on that, I'll leave you on a high note. I enjoyed Here With Me and I am sure you will too. Here With Me is book 2 in a series, but can be read without issue as a stand-alone. My suggestion - fill your time before the 28th reading book 1 of the Together series, Where You Are and Pre-order your copy of Here With Me now below!
I really, really, really liked this book. I think it's because I've gone through similar things as Jaden in school. I really felt for her. She had gone through so much by herself but some good came her way and had a very sexy bad ass guy help her through her depression.
Holy hot damn is Cade the perfect man for me. *sigh* He's the perfect amount of bad ass/sexy/alpha male. At first I thought he was going to be this huge sexy jerk of a man whore but he wasn't. He's so caring and passionate also protective. I love that he takes care of his momma even though shes let him down pretty much his whole life. And Adam, Jadens brother, is really funny guy, especially when he's drunk but he is completely oblivious to what was going on with Jaden. Ugh, men.
I really liked the story line. It was very realistic and relatable. It was a very quick read but it was really good! I liked that this book also came with Where You Are (Book 1) I will read that soon!
P.S. I really hate Selena and Will. Big time. And Justin too!
SPOILERS !!! Cade wow.... I totally love Cade he is my new book boyfriend, he is the strong alpha bad boy we all love and she is the innocent girl that makes him fall hard. This book touched me on many levels, as Jaden goes through hell and back and is bullied to the point where she doesn't want to live anymore. Cade is their to show her the girl she truly is and that she is worth fighting for and they are worth fighting for, I actually liked this book better than the first one in this series. Alla you are more than amazing and I cant wait to see what you come out with next.
DNF @ 30% The plot sounds really promising but I just couldn't get past the heroine's stupidity. She's traumatized for something she willingly came to. And things are just going way fast in the romance aspect. The heroine lets the guys she just met touch her inappropriately. And to even think that she has a trauma over similar past experience. Weird. And then the hero gets hard at every freaking moment. It got annoying.
So, I wasn't sure about this book, and had actually put it off for awhile, but decided today was the day to read it.
And it was seriously ADORABLE!!!
Cade and Jade were the most awesome couple, and I had to go back and reread the part where Selena got what was coming to her over again because it was fabulous!
Warning though. The book ends at 50% so be forewarned of that. Even so, 4 stars!!!!
I enjoyed this story. Great characters and storylines, but man this girl is ripe with drama. Almost too much drama to be believable but still worth the read.
I loved the bond between Jaden and Cade and seeing them grow and change together during so many bumps in the road. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this author!!
