This is definitely less on the instructional side than it is on the love of hunting deer. I picked up a few tidbits here and there. I really liked the hunting stories and hearing about the author's experience, so it was an enjoyable read for me.
Iappreciated the few maps the author included, but would have liked a lot more given the number of hunting spots he described. There were so many passages using undefined terms, similar to "I eased down a point to a bushy draw. There was a saddle to the south, a bedding area to the north surrounded by other draws with good cover, and a finger ridge reaching to a point to the west." I could only read so much of that before my eyes glassed over and I lost focus trying to visualize the spot and surrounding areas. It wouldn't be a big deal, but descriptions like that were a large chunk of the whole book.
Similar to his other books, Scent Lok is mentioned, but less than the other books. I guess it's not annoying since it's a big part of his hunting strategy, just feels a little cheesy.
This is a fun read as long as you're fully aware of what it is. Primarily this book is a story about a mans fall hunting deer across the nation put of his van. There are a handful of helpful tips at the end of each chapter and I definitely learned a few things but being a brand new whitetail hunter in IL, I was expecting more "How-to" from a book titled "How to hunt top whitetail states".
Once again, a very good read from an entertainment POV, if a bit disappointing from an educational one.
I was thinking of grabbing "Hunting Pressured Whitetails" but will have to do some research to make sure it is more informational.
