Kidogo is sure he's the tiniest creature on earth. All the other animals are so much bigger than he is. Kidogo sets out on a journey―through the woodlands, over the plains, down to the river―to see if he can find an animal smaller than he is. Is it possible that Kidogo is exactly the right size after all? Heartwarming illustrations and a gentle story will inspire and reassure young children who are just starting to find their own way in a big world.
Anik loves to travel and live in different parts of the world. Right now she's living in Tarrytown, NY.
Among other places, she's lived in Paris and Uganda. And has most recently lived in London in a wonderful little village neighborhood called Hampstead. Her favorite part of living in London was her walks in nearby Hampstead Heath with her husband, Glenn, her little boy, Noel, her baby daughter, Solenn, and her dogs, Moxie and Zephyr.
She studied illustration at Rhode Island School of Design.
Kidogo is about an elephant who sets out on an adventure in search of finding another animal who is smaller than him. His family has always helped him do just about all the necessities in life like reaching food, bathing, and even crossing rivers. As Kidogo goes along looking for an animal smaller than him he faces difficulties when trying to do the tasks that his family used to help him with. Kidogo for a while doesn't find anyone smaller than him, until he stumbles upon tiny ants that are extremely smaller than he is. After finding him, he does what his family used to do for him, getting them food from hard to reach places, giving them dust baths, and helping them cross the river. While following the ants he finds his way back to his family, and he now realizes that he isn't too small after all and he is the right size for a small elephant.
This book was so simple to read and I really enjoyed the story. Although the story was fairly short the illustrations had so much to offer. The illustrator really brought the elephants to life with the detailed images throughout the book. I really like the tiniest details to the animals body conformation; small wrinkles in the elephants' legs, and the color variations on the giraffes body. For me the words had very little impact on the story, and it was the images that had the greatest affect for me. I was in awe the second I opened Kidogo. I could look at this story numerous times, and find something different in the pictures every single time.
This little elephant learns self-sufficiency. He seeks some animal that is smaller than he, and while wandering around through the forest and on the planes, he encounters all manner of animals. None who are smaller than he. Until... He take a dirt bath and begins to itch terribly. Only to discover small ants that he gets to help eat, make one's way across a river, and to take their own dirt baths.
This book would be perfect for our younger students. It highlights the beauty of being small and little, even when there is a desire to grow up. This book would be a great edition to any class library.
What an enchanting read. Kidogo is a little elephant who is so sure that he is the smallest animal in the world. He goes on a quest to find animals that are smaller than him. He almost gives up when he meets a colony of ants. It is then that he realizes, "He was just right...for a little elephant." A positively delightful story for anyone who has felt a little too small in a world that's just a little too large.

Kidogo is very small - for an elephant. he is surrounded by mountains, plains, sky, and other animals that are all bigger than he is. So, he sets off on a journey to find a smaller animal.
Lovely illustrations and a sweet story without forced rhymes or any of those other things that tend to ruin picture books.
This is a picture book I picked up at the library. The narrative is simple and sweet. The best thing about it, though, is the illustrations. I just love them. After I read it to the boys I had to go through it again myself just to soak in the artwork.
I love how expressive the illustrations are in this one. I'm looking forward to trying it in storytime. . .thought I don't know whether I'll choose this one, or the next story about this endearing little elephant, "Quick, Slow, Mango!"
Really pretty watercolors to compliment a cute story. I felt that many of the illustrations stand on their own as artwork. This was a touching story as a read-aloud.
Another little elephant story - why are there some many kids books about little elephants? I liked the illustrations, but the story really was nothing special.
A small elephant named kidogo sets off in search of an animal that is smaller than him. Will he ever find one? Does he need to? Is he perfect just the way he is? Cute toddler and preschool
