I found this suspense compliation on Deseret Bookshelf and listened to the audiobook.
Hunted by Traci Hunter Abramson is a great way to start off this book. A teenage girl escapes from an evil step-father who wants her dead because she knows too much of his business. When she escapes and comes to a cabin it just happens to be occupied by an FBI agent and his wife, who take her in. This story is full of suspense as the FBI tries to use the information the young girl has given them to stop a mass shooting.
The Death House by Gregg Luke takes place in a small town in Nevada. There's an unsolved mystery involving the house next door to 15 year old Adam. The couple who owned the house were killed and only their heads were found in a pumpkin patch. Their bodies were never found and no one was ever arrested.
Haunting Reminders by Stephanie Black a creepy story about Jamie, who's moved back to her small hometown after being away for the past 5 years. Soon after her arrival in town, someone starts stalking her ex-fiance and his wife, leaving wierd notes and gifts. The ex-fiance and his mother accuse Jamie but she claims to know nothing about it. Soon, the police are involved and though Jamie claims she's being set up there's no proof.
I'm quite familiar with two of the authors other works, Traci Hunter Abramson and Stephanie Black are a couple of my favorite suspense authors. I loved Traci Hunter Abramson's story in this collection and really liked Stephanie Black's. Gregg Luke is pretty new to me. His story is a YA and it's not a genre I read very often, but I like his adult books. All three stories are clean and since they're less than 100 pages each, you can read them when you've only got a small amount of free time.
I'm not a fan of novellas; I much prefer full length novels. These are excellent, but I can't help wishing they'd each been a full length, stand alone novel.
3 stories of #suspense that are well written & keep the reader's attention. I have to admit when I began reading story #1 - "Hunted", I immediately noticed the references to the Mormon religion and hoped this wasn't going to be one of those "God and belief saved us"...it wasn't. It was simply added bits to make the characters more real.
Story #2 - "The Death House" was told from the viewpoint of a 15 year old nerdy teenager that kept having a "feeling" about the mysterious house about to celebrate a 100 year old murder mystery. Sort of reminded me a bit of "Goonies" meets "Stand by Me".
Story #3 - "Haunting Reminders" is jilted woman being blamed for terrorism of ex and his new wife by stalker; this was a "eh" for me, so that's why only 4 stars.
Won this in a Goodreads Giveaway; now giving it to my friend, Amy, for her reading pleasure.
This is kind of tricky to review because there are three stories inside the one book. I have to disclose that I usually do not like short stories even by my favorite authors and I usually avoid them but a friend recommended this so I did read it. I had noticed from the goodread reviews I glanced at that some thought the first story was best, then the second was second best and the last was the least favorite of the three. So I read them in reverse order to save the best for last. For me, the second and third stories were both three stars. The Abramson story was five stars for me and I regret that it was not fleshed out to be a stand-alone book just because I so enjoy her writing.
I liked the suspense of these 3 short stories. My favorite was the one with the girl that was kidnapped and pulled into a possible terrorist attack but she escaped her attackers and then helped the FBI solve the case and then was adopted by the agent and his wife. Clean. Good. Would read again.

Three great books rolled into one. Traci Hunter Abramson is one of my favorite authors. I love her books. This one again includes characters from some of her other books. She has created an world with characters that connect through many of her other books. This one is more of a side book than part of her regular series.
Death House was my favorite in this book. Two young people, teased in high school and subjected to bullying for being different come together and solve the mystery of the creepy "haunter house" together. The answer to the mystery of the 100 year old murder/suicide that took place in that house was nothing that i ever expected.
Lastly we have a book that very much reminded me of a Traci Hunter Abramson book. This one involves someone playing horribly mean pranks on a young couple. The husband's former fiance, Jamie, back in town after 5 years being away, is blamed for these pranks. Soon, the pranks turn near deadly as the wife, Hannah, is viscously attacked and the Jamie has no reliable alibi for the attack. There are several people who become suspect as the novel advances. I never expected the actual culprit though. She seems so supportive of Jamie through the entire book. Keeps you absorbed in the novel.

Two of these authors are familiar to me before reading this book and one wasn't. Thoroughly enjoyed all three stories. Traci Hunter Abramson's story Hunted had some familiar faces from previous books. Romantic suspense is definitely a strength with her and I enjoyed the story and the intrigue. Gregg Luke's story, The Death House, thoroughly creeped me but but the story was amazing and kept me wondering what would happen or be revealed next. Stephanie Black's story was in line with other books I've read of hers that involve psychological twists and some romantic suspense as well. Haunting Reminders definitely was unexpected in every way because even though I knew what kind of books she writes I still never know how it's going to go. All three were entertaining and well written and I would definitely recommend this book. Clean romantic suspense and a little horror. What a great mix.
Okay legit this book is worth buying JUST for Traci Hunter Abramson's short story. Her story alone deserves FIVE STARS. For those readers of Abramson's Undercurrents series, you will seriously love this. It brings back some characters, and there's this adorably and appropriately vulnerable young girl, as it's just PERFECT I LOVE IT! The second story was dece👌 (translation: short for decent). Pretty interesting, not exceptionally amazing, but ingenious. Three and a half stars. The last story I wasn't a big fan of. Personally, I've never liked stories where the main character is framed. I get annoyed that the characters in the story can't see that the main character is innocent. But hey, that's just me.
Serious though, Abramson is boss, the price of the book is worth it just for her short story.
This book holds three scary stories. All riveting. Grabbed my attention right away.
First Book: Hunted by Traci Hunter Abramson: SO good. Doesn't surprise me with this author. A murder mystery with a miracle within. I love the strength of the girl. Her ability to help catch her captures, almost getting killed, and finding a family in the process.
Book tow: The death house by Gregg Luke: Whoa! Compelling. It was an intense mystery with a scientific twist. Fascinating.
Book three: Haunting reminders by Stephanie black: I enjoyed this story. This was a new author for me. I pulled me in. It was more of a mystery and I found myself wondering if the twist really was her doing all the things but it wasn't her causing all the issues with her ex. The only complaint I have is that it didn't expound on the brewing love story. Book three:
Very good novella involving Doug and Jill Valdez from the Undercurrents series and some of the books in the Saint Squad (and maybe the Guardians?) series. I read the ebook, not the Kindle edition, but ebook wasn't a choice. The story involves an abused 13-year-old who shows up at the Valdez's borrowed mountain cabin as she is running from her abusive stepfather. Fortunately FBI agent Doug is armed and ready to drive off her attacker, but then things get even more complicated as Reagan, the girl, knows about a mass shooting event and Doug and his colleagues are trying to help her remember what she knows and catch the bad guys. Meanwhile, Jill is taking the girl into her home and heart and she and Doug must work out if this is an inspired, if unusual, chance to add to their family. Details of how an abused child might act are accurate and it all adds up to a suspenseful, satisfying story.
I have read nearly every book from two of the authors in this book, so I was excited to find it for sale at my library. I have read a few books from Luke, which weren't my favorite, but I decided to give his story a try as well. Happily, I thought it was a pretty good story. There were a few parts that I felt bordered on cheesy, but for the most part, it was an engaging story. I loved Abramson's and Black's stories. Both of them grabbed my interest right away and kept it until the end. A lot of times, I find short stories lacking, due to the lack of time to build the story, but I didn't feel that way with these. I'm glad I grabbed the book.
This is a book features the short stories by three authors. While the first two stories were interesting and enjoyable to read, the third story sunk the collection. Sorry to have gotten bogged down in a drama queen story that never ended ( I finally pulled the plug myself and abandoned the story). It far exceeded reason/reality/sense. Bad taste in my brain after the first two were so enjoyable. I believe this book is more for an adolescent audience. But, beware of the drama in the third story. Enjoy the craft in the first two.
I loved Traci’s story and reading how Doug changed his mind about adoption. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Then Gregg’s story gave me the creeps and the whole evil place freaked me out. Adam and Eve were both fabulous characters. I was glad it worked out okay, but I still feel like a lot was missing from that abrupt ending. Stephanie’s story just irritated me, because the stupidity of Isaac thinking she still cared five years later? I liked Julian and Hannah. I was glad when they finally figured things out.
I had high hopes for this book. Stephanie Black’s story was really the only decent story that had any real suspense for me and was the only one written well. If you are not an avid reader, this may be an enjoyable book for you. If you are like me, and have been exposed to truly remarkable writing and storylines and characterization, then this is most definitely not the story for you. Find another book or at least just look for additional books written by Stephanie Black. Stephanie Black’s short story was four stars, but I would give a dismal one star for the other two authors.
Three novellas... Traci Abramson 4 stars...a complete (ish) story in a shortened form. My favorite of the three. Gregg Luke 3 stars...this one felt more "teen" than the other two did. Not a bad story, but parts felt a little flat/incomplete due to the short length. Stephanie Black 3.5 stars...Pretty interesting story, also pretty predictable. I did like the way things worked out and that the characters actually talked to work through things.
Fantastic! It was right up my alley! All three stories were great, clean, quick, well written thrillers! The first one was a little over the top but still fun. The second one, The Death House, I loved. The twist was so good, I never saw it coming! As for the third story, I came for Stephanie Black, and she didn't disappoint. She just writes solid mysteries with loveable characters ever time. Bonus- new authors to enjoy!
Hunter First story about a 13 year old that is witness to a possible terrorist event. Doug Valdez and wife take into their home. The death house Adam (parents are preppers) Meets Eve and her brother at school in a weird town called snakeleg Nevada. Adam lives near a house everyone says is haunted and he keeps feeling like he needs to go inside it Haunting reminders Mystery involving a Jamie, the jilted bride, her ex and his wife, a dance teacher, and lots of weird threats that frame Jamie.
Three novelettes by three great authors. The first, "Hunted", is a spy thriller: can a young girl escape from virtual slavery as she has seen too much? The second, "Death House", deals with a haunted house built in the wrong place. Does it have anything to do with the Paiute's legend of a giant whose very *breath* is deadly? The third, "Haunting Reminders", is a Hallmark story until a mysterious, vicious stalker gets involved.
All three stories were fantastic and well written. I loved the unique phrases and descriptions in Stephanie Black's story. I loved learning more about one of the secondary characters in Traci Hunter Abramson's Saint Squad series in her novella. Finally, I enjoyed the quirky and creepy mood of Gregg Luke's novella. It reminded me very strongly of the All the Wrong Questions series by Lemony Snickett.
This is a reread for me, but it’s been a long time so I didn’t really remember much about the three novellas. I really liked each one in this collection! They are all good, suspenseful mysteries, and I had a hard time stopping reading each story once I started. If you like suspense and mysteries, you should read these!
This is a collection of stories. As with most collections, some I enjoyed more so than others. Abramson's was my favorite. All had a bit of suspense and mystery, which I like. Two of the stories had hints of the LDS faith in them with brief mentions of meetings and members, but nothing that should bother those who prefer not to have elements of religion in their books.
A fun, quick, relatively light read, just what I was looking for right now. I was pleased to find that none of these stories was centered around a romance, I enjoy romance but it generally feels too rushed in a short story format like this.
I love this collection of three suspense novels written by three of my favorite suspense authors. All three books have great characters. Each story moves swiftly and has plenty of twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. Wonderful!
Three short stories by three different authors, they were all interesting. I picked this book up because I have enjoyed books by Traci Hunter Abramson. I hadn't heard of the other authors. I read all three stories and enjoyed them. Searching for other books by Gregg Luke though, the books look like they have a darker theme than the short story in this book. I really enjoyed reading Stephanie Black's story. She added some wry humor into the stressful situations that made me laugh. I will be looking for more from her as well.
